    Seeing your video for the third time. First time, when I bought the car just to understand the difference in standard cruise control and the new adaptive cruise control.
    The second time, after I used the ACC and wanted to know more about all the buttons and settings.
    The third time, when I got stuck in a traffic jam and was pondering if the ACC would work in this situation. Off course I could have tried it, but better to check with some expert before doing it than repenting later.
    Thank you so much for this wonderful video 👍

    Thank you! I just got a new Toyota and am using TH-cam videos to help me figure things out. I keep coming back to your video for pointers on the dynamic radar cruise control - which is awesome and still a bit scary. I have noticed that after stopping, my car responds better to my pressing the resume button better than my tapping the gas.

    Thanks for this - coming from the previous Safety Sense version (on a Yaris) it was a bit confusing that they changed the button functions but kept roughly the same layout. It didn't help that the factory supplied manual was for the previous version!
    They've done a good job smoothing out the system driving inputs which were a bit clunky in the earlier versions. I guess the longer range and wider view of the camera and radar help with that.

    How long will it take to feel comfortable with assist driving control. I was driving with myself alerted all around me. I am driving controlling now mostly manual driving. I want to start feeling comfortable with my foot off the gas pedal is I why I bought this car, so, because I just had the right knee surgery, and I really like my car. adjustments for comfort seating sure helps. Amazing review. Never used cruise control in any car of my cars until today. Wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before trying it again ! Also I heard you’re not supposed to use cruise control on a new car under 500 miles ??

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The old logic was you shouldn’t use cruise control during the first 500 or 1,000 miles because it was bad to hold the engine at one RPM for extended periods of time, but the good news is with Adaptive Cruise Control it varies the speed of the car (and therefore the engine) with the speed of traffic so have at it!

    Just got a 2024 Cross LE. These sound like dumb questions, but....1) Does the adaptive cruise control icon permanently remain on the dashboard - but turns green if it's in use? 2) is there an additional feature in there that makes the car slow down by itself even if the cruise control is not turned on? I'm having an issue with it doing that and would like to get rid of it. Any suggestions? Senior citizen here - just beginning to learn the new features after 21 years with a 2004 Matrix. Thanks for your help.

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  หลายเดือนก่อน

      1) Yes, I'm pretty sure that icon is always there and turns green when it is active.
      2) The system that is doing that is called "Proactive Driving Assist." It will automatically slow down when it thinks you re coming up on traffic too quickly, amongst other things, and I find it very annoying. You can turn it off in the center screen with the rest of the safety features, its listed in there as "PDA." Consult your owners manual if you want more specific instructions. Look for "Proactive Driving Assist" in the index.

    • @CarDietrich

      The car will only bring itself to a complete stop if the Radar Cruise Control is active, your Corolla Cross is locked onto the car in front of it, and that car in front of you comes to a complete stop. It will not stop for stop signs, red lights, or any other reason

    What would be a great feature of the dynamic cruise control is if the cruise control speed adjusted to match the posted road speed. So let’s say that a highway was 65 mph and it drops in a section to 55 mph, the set speed would drop or raise depending on the posted speed. Therefore, as long as you had this engaged, you could never be speeding. Naturally, road hazards would impact this and you would have to manually override the cruise system, but you have to do that anyway. It isn’t an autonomous car.

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kia/Hyundai/Genesis cars with Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control do just that, but the speed limit information is based on what the car's navigation system thinks it knows, so if for example you are driving through a construction zone with reduced speed limits the car won't adjust for that, at least on the systems I have tried.

    • @CarDietrich

      On the older versions of Toyota Safety Sense, the cruise disabled itself below 25 mph. The world of Toyota Safety Sense is complicated and ever changing, not all of the new ones come with 3.0. Check the specific model you're interested in to see which version it has.

    Bought a 2024 Corolla Hybrid SE 3 days ago. Looking at the cruise control buttons layout I feel Toyota could have done a better job at organizing them. For example, swapping the "Activate cruise control" with the "distance from vehicle in front of me" button would provide a much more intuitive way to set things up. You'd press MODE on wheel to select your CC mode, then press (opposite side of the wheel) the right wheel button to activate cruise control, then (if adaptive cc is the node you selected) you would add your personal touch to the adaptive cc by selecting (if wanted) the lane assist and dialing in distance to vehicle in front of you, and BOTH these button would be located outside of the wheel, to the left of it. Would it not make more sense to do it that way??

    • @KillerofGods

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      PDA is Proactive Driving Assist, which will use the car's Safety Sense 3.0 system to slow down if it thinks you are coming on traffic or another obstacle too quickly, or a curve too quickly, and it can adjust the steering in a curve a little bit too. I find it annoying and typically turn it off, but try it out and see if you like it. If its on and the car feels like its slowing down like it has a mind of its own so you don't come up on traffic too fast, thats the PDA.

    I recently bought a new 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE, and there seems to be something in its behavior that's very wrong. It has braked on its own as if there were some traffic ahead when there was none. Another feature you didn't talk about in the video is the Emergency Driving Stop System, which is designed to detect if you're not making any control inputs (like taking your hands off the steering wheel for more than just a few seconds). If it activates, it's supposed to brake and use the Lane Tracing Assist (which you DO talk about) and slow the car to a complete stop while remaining in your current lane. If the car insists on slowing down without my consent for some reason, it could be very dangerous driving in heavy freeway traffic at fairly high speeds to have the car slow down to a stop on the freeway. And it's not just my car. I saw a video from CBS News talking about people complaining of "phantom braking" like what I'm experiencing being a problem a few years ago, in several different makes and models of cars offering collision avoidance. I'm wondering if you know of this or if you have any knowledge that would confirm that this is no longer a concern?

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have driven several newer model of Toyota and Lexus cars with the newer version of the “Safety Sense” systems (2.5, 2.5+ and 3.0) and I personally have not experienced any “phantom braking” in any of them. This is obviously a condition that could lead to an accident in the wrong circumstances, so I would certainly advise you to have your vehicle inspected by a Toyota dealer under warranty to see if there are any faults with your car.

    • @leisulin
      @leisulin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarDietrich Thanks for responding! One thing I'm going to test on my own is that the manual (and a special "pamphlet" on the Safety Sense 3.0 system) says very clearly that the EDSS only operates if the Lane Tracing Assist is enabled and the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is enabled. If it still happens when those conditions are met, then there's definitely something wrong. I am due for my 6-month first check-up in January. I'll definitely talk to them about this then!

    Please do a video to show how to set up and use DRCC with Road Sign Recognition. If you are doing 50 on cruise and the road signs change to 60, what do you press to make the cruise speed recognize the 60 and synchronize by jumping straight to the 60 on the road sign display. Also the reverse with speed reduction.

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  ปีที่แล้ว

      According to what I could find in the owners manual for this 2023 Corolla Hybrid, that's not how the Road Sign Assist System works. It just warns you of the changing speed limited or whatever else is going on. Per the owner's manual:
      "The RSA (Road Sign Assist) system detects specific road signs using the front camera and/or navigation system (when speed limit information is available) and warns the driver via displays and buzzers."

      @@CarDietrich Thanks for the prompt reply Dietrich.
      My 2019 RAV4 with the earlier cruise control switches works exactly the way I have described. When the Road Sign Assist changes to different to the cruise speed, I long press the RES+ to synchronize to an increased speed and long press SET - to synchronize to a lower speed. I use this all the time as I drive on cruise around town.
      My partner has just taken delivery of a new 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid with the same steering wheel as in your video and I am still sorting it out. The dealer has told me that this feature is turned off by default and it is not covered in the manual. He said to use the ring on the left side of the steering wheel and navigate to DRCC and turn this on. Then he said there is a display "Press RES+ to accept" or similar when a new speed shows on Road Sign Assist. Suspect it works the same way as the RAV4 once this feature is turned on ie long press on RES+ to increase speed and long press on - button to decrease speed. I don't have access to her car to check this out.
      I was looking to confirm this on line and found your excellent video, but was disappointed to see that it does not cover how to synchronize the cruise speed to the speed showing on Road Sign Assist.
      Hope you are able to confirm this and let people know how to use this excellent feature with a new or updated video.

      Hmm interesting, I was not aware that Toyota Safety Sense ever had that functionality. I have used a similar system in Hyundai and Kia and Genesis products, but they advertise it as such. It's part of their Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control. The next time I drive a Toyota with safety sense I'll play with it and see if I can figure out a video about it. Thanks for the information!

      @@CarDietrich FYI Dietrich, your excellent video is the only one I could find that shows how to use Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Safety Sense 3.0 using the new Toyota Cruise Control switch layout. Well done.

    A word of caution.
    Dynamic Radar Cruise Control DOES NOT DETECT RED LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS!
    Helpful video, but I thought that it is worth noting that the Toyota Owner's Manual states that the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control should only be used on highways and expressways, probably for precisely this reason.
    So, if you use DRCC and you are cruising along on a city street with no traffic, you could easily blow by a red light or stop sign.

    TSS might be underrated when it already comes with the car and hear it's superior compared to Tesla's basic autopilot. Honestly, calling it TSS doesn't sound as cool as Autopilot when it comes to marketing as it sounds like a conservative term imo. Has me thinking of getting a Camry vs Tesla with this tech though which I never knew about til recently.

    Driving to the right, right around the posted speed limit is NOT impeding the flow. Everyone seems to think speed limits are a suggestion. This is especially important on "surface streets" as in this video.

    It is not "impeding" traffic to go the speed limit on city streets. In most states it would be impeding if you hog the left passing lane going the speed limit, or any speed, if traffic must pass you in the right lane so they can speed over the limit. Their speed should not be your concern. You don't have to break the law just because they are doing so. That flimsy excuse will more often get you a ticket when stopped by an officer. I have heard many people say that they had to speed because they did not want to be run over by speeding cars. I have never seen anyone hit or run over for going the speed limit. This from a retired LEO. Enjoy paying your tickets. BTW, I have a 2024 Grand Highlander Platinum. The system is not really ideal for in city driving. It works great for highway driving. In town, drive the car yourself and keep your attention to the road and traffic.

      Pretty sure he was just making a joke, but I appreciate the response anyways for newer drivers and anyone that was confused.
      Also thanks for protecting your local community. Too many people disparaging Leo's nowadays.

    The best part about Toyotas is how uncomplicated they are. But when it comes to Adaptive cruise control, somehow they couldn't get it right. There is no uniform button layout. Rav4 is different, highlander is different, grand highlander different, tundra is different. Driving me crazy!!!

      I know, the buttons all do the same thing but they are layed out differently. I have thought of making a couple more how-to videos with the different button layouts but I’m not sure if its necessary?

    I have a 23 cross - I tried it on highway - it slows me down way too quickly and speeded me up way faster than I would. when it slows you down it is burning out the transmission! not the break - and it really guns it, wasting gas when it resumes back up to the speed. ALSO on the highway it is frightening, does not slow you down until you are far to close - so This entire tech needs adjusting or needs to be made so driver can program it to resume speed slowly not like a rocket ship,,,, and the following distance needs to be much greater - This is new tech and its not really that good, compared to what it will be someday. Im sure. Im surprised there have not been more accidents from it. you need to be able to set it to how you drive,, not some teenager who has had a few drinks and things they are superman! Back to the drawing board for this!

    • @KillerofGods
      @KillerofGods 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can adjust how fast it accelerates in the options screen.
      Not sure if you can control how hard it breaks other than using the max following distance.
