Had this movie playing once during a family gathering-thing when I couldn't take the chattery conversation in the main room anymore. When the General vs. Troll story started, people started ducking in one by one and getting completely sucked in. When Troll-y hit the fan, I saw three generations of folks clap and even cheer. One of the best King adaptations out there

I bought my ticket for this movie, hit the concession stand, and walked into an empty theater. As I went through the door, I heard one of the employees ask the manager how many people needed to be there for him to show the movie. I remember his answer clearly: "He's here." Awesome! A few other people showed up, but it was nice to know I mattered that much.
I also enjoyed the movie, in part because I had a well-read copy of Night Shift. Good times.

I must’ve read through Night Shift, 30 times as a kid, from age 7 to 11, then rereading as a teenager, then adult, gave me new perspectives on many of the stories.
I always thought the Night Flier was a great setup for a movie, and loved the stories already adapted. Then it was another joy to reread, as new stories got adaptations.

      "He's here" hahaha epic!
Me and my mate were the only ones to see our showing of The Exorcist 3. It was in a back-area tiny room that you had to climb two flights of stairs to get to.
The ticket-taker was at the bottom of the stairs and as we passed by, taking inspiration from the by-line on the poster, I said "Dare you climb these stairs again?" and the usher guy cracked up. I was chuffed AF. lol.

"It was less of a horror film and more of a black comedy."
King's writing style is like racing a car, once he finished a novel, his brain would still be in overdrive so he would write short stories to decompress and not necessarily horror, that is how we ended up with stories like "Stand By Me" and "The Shawshank Redemption".

    1. My vhs copy of the film suffered from chew and torn tape syndrome because of intense replay.
    2. Stephen King's facial expression (19 seconds in) has the look of someone who took a few puffs from the "Quarter Pounder" joint from C&C's Up In Smoke film 😂
    3. Cat's Eye has been in my thoughts on and off for a few days and now I know why.

Being raised in a home where we consider pets as family members, I enjoyed this movie and how it depicted the cat and his adventures. Saw this movie on TV back in the 80s, I remember the “WTF” face when the dad found the troll’s little dagger… because that was exactly the same WTF face I and my family were doing. We didn’t know it was a Stephen King story (I knew The Shining, but it’s more Kubrick than King IMO).

Well, in short stories, it’s usually a bummer ending, while his novels usually trade a great character suffering, and/or dying, yet still saving the day.
His Bachman books; usually dark, with the protagonists not making it in the end.
I understand what he was trying to do with the resolution to the Dark Tower books, though I just don’t think it works very well, as written. I like the idea that some evils just can never be killed/destroyed, only held off for awhile, and/or reborn to start the cycle again.

I just watched this movie! My favorite part is where Alan King lip-syncs “Every Breath You Take” to James Woods. Also, the cat looks a lot like mine. The miniature street was very obvious to me, but I’m always impressed with miniatures.

Ive only seen Cat's Eye once in the 90s. The only part I saw was The General Segment. I know better now but I also saw Tales from the Darkside the Movie which also had cat that is not-so-heroic. I still imagine a Cat that steals children's breaths as a combination of the murderous cat from Tales from the Darkside with the Troll from Cat's Eye. I saw a lot of killer cats in horror films.
Before the internet and many guides about movies trying to understand anything on cable was difficult. I saw so many films only partially and only saw them fully years later.
Jay Leno was in a movie?!

One of the things I like about this movie is how Teague was able to get serious performances from actors who were known for comedy (Alan King, Robert Hays) and a pretty good comedic performance from James Woods, who was known as a serious actor. _Night Shift_ is probably my favorite book of all time and this movie permanently changed my perception of the two stories adapted from it. I can't reread "Quitters, Inc." without seeing Woods as Dick Morrison, or "The Ledge" without seeing Hays as Norris. There are so many little comic touches (and horrific touches) put into this movie. And Christine really gets around! She's been in almost as many places as Fluffy's crate!

I saw this as a kid in the 80s and loved it. I get the impression that Cat's Eye is perceived as goofy nowadays, probably because of the obtuse and dire times we live in, but back then it was great fun. And man, it was well made technically, but it also captured the atmosphere of the short stories perfectly. I also love that the hero is a cat. Great video.

I live in Wilmington NC. The Cape Fear museum has the miniature and full sized knives from this movie. Along with Firestarter props , some TMNT props,(including Raphs Sai and Shredders cut face prosthesis) and the doll from Rosemary's baby and recently some props from the last 2 Halloween films, that shot a few blocks from my house for the flashback scenes. Got some rookie set photos from those.

The General is my favorite part and would be nice if that deleted Prologue gets put on a collector's edition in the future.
They were originally going to use the remaining screen used Christine now owned by Martin Sanchez. But then decided on a different Plymouth that didn't need the work as that Christine.

"Quitters Inc." and "The Ledge" are very solid stories in the film, but I think "The General" needed that ditched backstory at the start to flesh out that tale more, having the Cat's motivations be more understandable aside from picking up the supernatural S.O.S. from the girl. The General is definitely my favorite character in the movie, speaking to my lifelong love for that breed of cat.

The entire story of the man climbing along the building is so well done. It seems realistic, or about as real as it could be made. Better than most things made today. The entire time though when I watch this, especially this first time I had that feeling. Feeling of dread and a feeling of falling. I do get into movies I admit. This had my feet at moments feeling as if I was falling or about to fall. The pigeon looked so real. I don't even know how they accomplished that unless it was literally a live pigeon pecking at someone's foot. Likely A fake leg and foot? A work of art though for sure, it is art to me when it gives you a feeling and this definitely does. Just beautiful to me

I always forget that it was actually a theatrically-released film. Something about it always gives me a very TV movie vibe, so I tend to think of it as an '80s version of Trilogy of Terror. Something that the troll makes even stronger given the iconic nature of the zuni doll in Trilogy.
