I’m happy to hear your dad pulled through enough to know his grandson. I know that meant the world to him. I’ve worked in nursing homes for years and nothing means more to those people than their grand babies. I’m sorry for your loss and hope you have many happy memories to dwell on
Much love. I lost my father when I was in my final year of Law School. Graduating from law school should have been one of the defining points in my life, yet it was brutally overshadowed by the loss of my father.
Thank you for sharing your story at the end. That was incredibly touching and imo it's hard to be that vulnerable in public. I will be watching The Blob tonight. Can't wait to see what you do next.
Cecil, first off, this video on The Blob remake was awesome!! I always love when you cover movies I’ve grown up with & love. The Blob (‘88) was one of the few horror movies that scared the shit out of me as a kid, but I love as an adult. I completely agree with you that this film, Carpenter’s The Thing, and Cronenberg’s The Fly are the high watermark of remake trilogies. Wish more filmmakers would learn from those. On a serious note, I’m very sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. I lost my dad last October (the day before Halloween) to Lewy Body Dementia. One of the very best memories I have of him, was a very comical debate we had over what was the better Blob movie. He grew up with the 50’s original & obviously I grew up on the 80’s remake. It’s one of those memories that no one else would understand if they weren’t there in the room with us, but it’s one I’ll never forget. May both our fathers Rest In Peace & look down on us proudly from Heaven above😎
Glad to see ya back, Cecil. Hope that you and your family are doing alright, and I am sorry for your loss. P.S. thanks for picking an awesome film to review. One of the best of the 80's!
Let me tell you, watching this movie for the first time in the mid 2000s at the tender age of 11 was quite the experience. And by that I mean it scared the pants off me. I'd seen the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, the Friday series, and the first few Halloween movies, but this creature frightened me far more than any of those killers. The fact the thing was just a huge ball of slime that digested its prey whole and alive was bad enough, but seeing that nothing other than cold temperatures could harm it made it seem unbeatable at the time. It's kind of the same feeling I got when watching Deep Rising, another creature that digested its prey whole and alive, though that one was much easier to kill. Still, this has easily become one of my favorites.
Ok listen, that original video is one I LOVE to watch. I can’t tell you how often I go back to it bc The Blob is one of my favorite movie monsters! Now I have this I can come watch just as often. Quality content right here. 🤌🏼💕
Having also lost my father last year, this moved me greatly. I'm really happy you had this to really honor your dad and bring everything full circle, as it were. First video of yours I've ever seen BTW.
It’s such a short scene but the scene where the blob slaps the guy like a flyswatter and then pulls back to show him flattened burned into my brain forever
Boutique Blu-Ray distributors like Arrow Video, Criterion, Second Sight and the like need to hire folks like you and Oliver Harper to make supplemental features for their boutique releases, Cecil. Love your work, dude!
My condolences on the passing of your father. This is one of my favorite horror movies and you did an awesome breakdown. It's funny that you mention Flagg being a reference to Stephen King's The Stand, since Shawnee Smith went on to play Julie in The Stand mini-series several years after this.
Absolutely one of the best remakes period and one of the best horror films overall. Stunning special effects, story development and directing. Great to see this underrated masterpiece given the attention it deserves.
I am a fan of both the original and the remake. I love the cheesiness of the original along with Steve McQueen and the cool blob effects. The remake is awesome for the updated Blob effects. Those death scenes and cast were fantastic.
I like that Shawnee Smith wasn't the "tough girl" heroine she only became string because she had no other choice. This wasn't some 5'8 118 pound woman easily defeats a guy that's 6'2 200 pounds
This is one of my favorite Remakes. Alongside The Thing, The Fly, King Kong ('05), Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (70's), Invaders From Mars & Halloween (Rob Zombie). To be honest, I really only like Zombie's Halloween because we got an alternate backstory for Michael & he was ultra violent compared to the other films. I enjoyed your video.
@@Reverend_Nada I did also enjoy the F13 remake. But in retrospect, and speaking as a near 50, decades long Slasher/Horror fan, Halloween "07 & Friday The 13th were two remakes we really didn't need. My Bloody Valentine 3-D was an interesting take on the classic slasher. That remake I could actually support. But redoing iconic Slashers such as Freddy, Jason & Myers just seems like a obvious cash grab by the movie studios. That's just my two cents. I realize nobody asked.
I always feel a sense of pride for loving movies right from the get go, that most people overlooked until it became a cult classic. The Blob is one of my all time favorite movies, right up there with other underrated classics like The Fog, The Thing and so many more
My condolences for your pops man, Watching this movie it's almost impossible for me to find a scene as gruesome as the one where paul gets eaten. Also if you ever get a chance can you explore "THE CAR" I saw an elliot sliverstein interview and that got me really interested in how it came about.

I had a big place in my heart for this movie, I learned English by watching movies and tv series in cable as a kid, without subtitles on cinemax, HBO, TMC and Showtime, and the Blob was one of those movies that help me to learn the language. You are an awesome human being and I know your dad really loved you as we all do here. This movie gave me so many nightmares. Still haven't seen it again since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs to watch it from behind the bannister while my parents thought I was in bed asleep. Lesson learned.
I can speak for all of us that we're sorry about your dad...he sounds like he was a good father & grandfather - THAT is something to be proud of. And kudos to you for making such an incedibly well researched video (as usual) & working in the tribute to your dad!
I watched it for the first time few years ago, for some reasons I never bothered to do it sooner thinking it was probably boring and not scary, how wrong I was, one of the few impactfull horror movies for me, as cool as "The Thing" (82') and with enough twist to completely caught you off guard, this is brilliant and even the most blasé horror movie fans will agree.
So I started this video and saw the hefty 42min length and was not feeling like I needed THAT much time with the Blob. But without a doubt there is a very genuine love and reverence evident in this video. Not that your other videos lack that, but the catharsis is real and I appreciate you working through hard times and expressing your love for this movie. Very sorry about your dad, your connection to this movie and him reminds me and I’m sure others of some of the same irreplaceable memories
I went to the movies to see the remake when I was either 11 or 12 (depending on what part of the year it was released. I can't remember). Loved it then and I love it now. The movie still holds up. It's definitely a classic.
I lost my Dad on Augst 16th 2016 he was 56 and died from cancer It's been really hard without him. You posting this video on the 5 year anniversary of his death is a wierd coincidence. It’s about the 80’s I tell ya! A lot great sci-fi horror films were around that time! It took a lot of work and people were happy in doing the best they could offer.
We never get over the loss of loved ones. My sympathies, I lost my father when I was 12. That was in '86, Hollyweird helped me with the loss, now I can't be bothered to look at anything produced these days. This channel ROCKS! Thank you for the flashbacks.
@@CorbCorbin Yeah apparently in the extended version of that scene (which has never been released) the steamroll death ends with his head exploding but it would've gotten them an x rating so they cut it.
Yup! A rarity indeed. I can only think of IT, Pet Sematary (as two obvious ones) and Demon Knight off the top of my head. I almost went with Cujo as well but remembered that Stephen King lets the boy live in the movie version.
i cannot explain how happy i am to see a 45 min video from you pop up on my feed. brilliant. great to see u back. thank you for all your amazing videos.
Seeing that concept art does intrigue me about the Rob Zombie version of the Blob. But, I dont think anything would replicate my fantasy of it. The 88 version of the Blob is so fantastic anyways.
It looks fantastic in like a "comic book-style" format, but we just know the final product wouldn't do. Rob Zombie--very much a product of the MTV Generation itself--is a strong utilizer of the "MTV editing", whether he admits it or not. He doesn't do subtle or suspenseful; it's all shaky, dynamic camerawork, jump cuts, and sensory overload. Just imagine blob monsters chasing people to 'Supercharger Heaven" or something, because that's what you'd get. Is it cool? Yeah, probably. But is it scary?
@@hamupinhere Eh, Zombie catches lots of grief, but most of what he does is at least interesting (House of 1000 Corpses is still one of my favorite popcorn films. Is it scary? No, but that misses the point). A better question would be is it original? For as much as a remake can be, Zombie would bring something inventive to the screen.
I'm glad people are finally appreciating this film. was one of my favorites as a kid, and to this day has one of my favorite climaxes. "I think, you pissed it off" a great line and delivery and everything after it is just amazing, esp for the time when you weren't expecting to get that kind of big ending.

I’m happy to hear your dad pulled through enough to know his grandson. I know that meant the world to him. I’ve worked in nursing homes for years and nothing means more to those people than their grand babies.
I’m sorry for your loss and hope you have many happy memories to dwell on
Thank you. I'm forever grateful for the extra years he was with us
Absolutely underrated remake of the 80s, the director has also a nice career
the blob (1988) is not underrated.

It's always good to see Cecil. This is definitely one of the best remakes. 80s was the best time.
Edit: Condolences to you and yours.
A great video exploring a highly underrated movie. Well done.
Thanks!
When a remake is so good that it eclipses the original, just like with the Thing.
And Scarface.
@@Madbandit77 Scarface is trash, Pacino is god awful almost cartoon levels of awful in every way
@@lutherheggs451 You're entitled to your opinion, sir.
the holy trinity of 80s remakes The Thing,The Fly and The Blob
This must be a very special episode to you 🥺
The story about your dad was very heartfelt 💕💕
The remake was ahead of its time and stills holds up today.
Thanks!
I rented this VHS so many times in the early 90s. This film is the definition of a hidden gem.
Boutique Blu-Ray distributors like Arrow Video, Criterion, Second Sight and the like need to hire folks like you and Oliver Harper to make supplemental features for their boutique releases, Cecil.
Love your work, dude!
Thank you! I'd be good with that :)
@@GoodBadFlicks Hell yeah!

I'm so glad to see this movie has started to get the love it deserves. I always thought it was incredible
100% Agreed
I am a fan of both the original and the remake. I love the cheesiness of the original along with Steve McQueen and the cool blob effects.
The remake is awesome for the updated Blob effects. Those death scenes and cast were fantastic.
I like that Shawnee Smith wasn't the "tough girl" heroine she only became string because she had no other choice. This wasn't some 5'8 118 pound woman easily defeats a guy that's 6'2 200 pounds
is there a single redeemable quality about the original?
@@YouSoSpice old fashioned charm from Steve McQueen and the theater Stampede.

I love Zombie’s remake. Exactly because it is more violent. Similar to my love for the Friday the 13th remake, A faster Jason comes off more violent.

My sincerest condolences about your father. He sounded like a tough dude with impeccable taste.
This is one of my favourite videos of yours, Cecil. I adore this movie, and your 'Exploring' did it justice.
Thanks for this one, Cecil. I was a teen working in a movie theater when this came out. I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview ticket (at ComicCon) for it. It was a loud, raucous full house, and everyone loved it. It is one of my favorite memories from that time in my life. Too bad this movie never got the respect it deserved.
P.S. I truly appreciate your heartfelt story about your dad.
My friend my deepest condolences on your loss. I know that you having a child, making him a grandfather made him very proud of you. When a man sees how a family goes full circle brings a light in a grandfather's eye .A legacy is a success more than careers. Also this is by far one of your best videos I've seen. I love the Blob and didn't have a clue how many of the effects were done.I put this on my list of favs. to see it when I could enjoy it fully. I've seen Red Letter Media s RE:view of it and while funny, wasn't nearly as informative or in depth as this. I enjoyed this a hell of a lot. Just keep busy at what you do to deal with this loss.I lost both of my parents 3 yrs apart from each other when I was a teenager. Im so pleased to hear that he pulled thru that first time to see his son complete the circle of a successful family..God bless .Now you done gave me BLOB fever which always begins with....Beware of the Blob it creeps and leaks...hmm hmm ha hmmm
We love you. You’ve gotten me through countless hardships and I can’t imagine your father not being proud of you. I knew this episode was special once I saw the notification…very glad I watched it all to realize why.

Brilliant films. Better than the Originals.
I had no clue how awesome this movie was. That bit with the guy with the grenades is such a brilliant moment, I love that.
Finally someone is giving this underrated movie the credit it deserves, and no one is better fit than Cecil to do it👍
Red Letter Media talked about it last year as well.
Shout Factory put out a great Blu Ray of this movie too recently. Worth getting. They are seriously the go to company for putting out actual good releases of these films on Blu Ray these days with loads of special features.
I'm so sorry about what happened with your Dad. I lost my Dad to brain cancer in a terribly similar experience. It was an incredible miracle that your dad lived longer after his 1st Stroke, and I also got an extra 6months with my Dad. I am so sorry for your loss. Been a long time fan of the channel, and thank you for sharing your experience with us, God bless.
Thank you for your kind words. I genuinely appreciate them. Sorry for your loss as well.
That's how I feel about the 1978 Body Snatchers remake. Saw it in film class back in 1993 and have loved it since.
The 78 body snatchers is a classic.
Great video! You explained so many things that I always wondered about. This is an excellent movie. Also, lovely tribute to your father at the end.
Thank you so much!
Brother your story at the end made me cry. I watched this movie with my mom when it came out and we loved it. We talked about it for years and how great it was. It was for me as it was for you a sentimental movie to me. I lost her too and when I saw your Blob video I was way stoked. Thanks for the great memories I got to relive.
Thanks for all the passion you put doing all these videos, you make us feel that we are not alone in the world with our love on these movies. The scene where the can man pokes the blob scarred me as a kid for life- it's always the one scene I remember even if I didn't know the name of the film. The effects are fantastic in this film and Chuck Russell made a fantastic remake

I can't imagine how difficult it was to make this video, be content with it, and finally release it. Sorry to hear about your loss.
This movie gave me so many nightmares. Still haven't seen it again since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs to watch it from behind the bannister while my parents thought I was in bed asleep. Lesson learned.
Good afternoon GBF, hope you’re having a super rad day. This movie is absolutely phenomenal and has a special place in my heart. Thank you.
We both loved the Blob remake, we seen it at the theatre 2 times when it came out. When I was younger my Mother worked at a video store and My Dad and I were able to rent movies for free. We watched just about every movie you have done whether it was Good Bad or Exploring. I love your channel especially since I lost my Dad. Thank you for everything and I am sorry for your loss.
holy crap , that was probably one of the most epic openings for movies ever. So many amazing movies out at one time.
This movie has a special place in my heart...my older brother and I used to quote this movie along with Night of the Creeps. My brother passed away years ago, but still lives on through many of these type of goodbad movies.

Yeah apparently in the extended version of that scene (which has never been released) the steamroll death ends with his head exploding but it would've gotten them an x rating so they cut it.
Yup! A rarity indeed. I can only think of IT, Pet Sematary (as two obvious ones) and Demon Knight off the top of my head. I almost went with Cujo as well but remembered that Stephen King lets the boy live in the movie version.

It definitely looks metal as hell but I like it as poster/cover art and can't really see it as a film lol
I'm glad people are finally appreciating this film. was one of my favorites as a kid, and to this day has one of my favorite climaxes. "I think, you pissed it off" a great line and delivery and everything after it is just amazing, esp for the time when you weren't expecting to get that kind of big ending.
