I love the father and son banter in this episode. You have such a great relationship. Fun to watch. I do drink both of these. I have to be in the mood for the Talisker 10, but I can drink the Highland park 12 whenever. As a result I think Highland park wins for me.
With me it's the other way around. But yeah I also have a lot off Islay's scotches.. Maybe that's why I like takisker more (and I know it's not an Islay but I smells/tastes like a light Islay imo) but I just like both. Although I always have like 2-4 talisker 10 bottles at home. I like this as my daily dram. And my weekend dram is like an ardbeg uigedail/corryvreckan or Laphroaig 10 cask strength for example. (Well not really for example because it literally is like this lol) also Port charlotte heavely peated Islay Barley is fantastic and I have still a bottle off it too. You have a lot of great scotches between 45-150 euro.👍
What a great episode, Gents - one of your best together!!! It captures the essence of why we all love the wide world of whisky and are grateful that it provides the opportunity to find the right flavor profile for each of our unique tastes. Do more of these father-son tastings!
Both solid whiskies that I have actually bought bottles of in the last few days. The Talisker is on offer for £30 and the Highland Park for £25 at my local supermarket. They are both discounted regularly and are great everyday sippers for the money. Fun show guys.
Oh my God, this has been a question that occupied my mind for days- what whisky shoyld I buy first, Talisker 10 or Highland Park 12. This episodes helped me realise that I should buy both of them at the same time! Whay a easy and enjoyable solution!
I don't even have to watch this. I traded away my bottle of Highland Park 12. I had three drams out of the bottle and every time i was "Meh." There's nothing "Meh" about Talisker.
The Highland Park available here in the US is bottled at a slightly higher alcohol by volume. I have both whiskeys, it's really not a fair comparison. The Highland Park is really well balanced, and has many layers and complexity, specially considering the price. The Talisker is non sherry cask, and younger. It has a lovely peat profile, and the malt has that unique island taste.
A naughty second comment. It's great banter but it does indeed highlight the different experiences of whisky. It is perfectly possible to experience both opinions. For those that don't like "stinky" or powerful whisky the door is open to Highland Park and more accessible styles. Let's not forget that most whisky consumers drink it only on occasion as opposed to the deranged lot that watch these videos.
I bought both but would only rebuy the Talisker. The Highland Park would be good for a beginner looking for something soft and mild whereas the Talisker has a higher ABV, much more peat influence, and a fuller flavour while still being well rounded and also complex.
Greatest respect to the distinguished senior expert, but Talisker is the best. Metaphorically, the Talisker would beat up the Highland Park and take its lunch money. ;-) Great review. Lots of fun.
Talisker 10 is my favourite whisk(e)y of all time, so far nothing else I've tried even comes close to it in terms of richness, complexity or price-quality ratio.
Highland Park 12 for me all the way❤ but the Talisker 10 is also a good one since i have a bottle at home, it was a friend of mine who suggested Talisker 10
I have to side with the Talisker. Nothing wrong with Highland park but the Talisker just offers more flavour and intensity. Both enjoyable and affordable.
Really enjoyed that! Loved the humour and yet learning so much from you guys. Personally, nothing beats nosing and sipping a Talisker in the comfort of my living room as as cold weather rages outside.
Omg yes when it's cold outside I always drink the talisker 10 as a daily dram because price/quality. I have lots off islays that are more expensive but I drink more in weekends. So love my Island (higland) single malt that talisker 10 is.👍 Cheers 🥃
I have seen Horst been nicer to Red Label than Talisker! :-) I love the fact that he didnt hide he dislike it, and best part is that Ben disagrees. -Peppery, full body, intense -Burned, sharp! really like the banter.
Both great whiskeys and depending on my mood I'll happily reach for either of them. Talisker will always have a place in my heart though as it's my very favourite.
I have talisker Dark storm I really like that One, but the HP 12 is Ferry Nice to so I can, t choose I like them both but HP wins for disign 😅 Great video guys thnx
Yeah offcourse the talisker 10 is only 45 euro and lagavulin 16 76euro so yeah not fair comparison. I find lagavulin a great dram (the 8,16 and the 12) but it's like you really pay extra for the name and then the big name that makes commercial for it. Mister Offerman. Got 6euros more I have ardbeg uigedail(82euros). So yeah I choose arbeg over Lagavulin.
I've only had Talisker Skye and HP10 from these distilleries, but Talisker all the way for me. I hated the Skye when I first got it. It was the first whisky I didn't like, but I stuck with it and it grew on me. HP10 however was very boring. It's a bit like Monkey Shoulder, the first few sips are great then it just disappears into being dull unmemorable whisky.
Many years ago i would have said highland park 12. But nowadays it’s a shadow of itself and the new packaging and all that viking nonsense it’s garbage, hp has lost it’s way. Talisker 10 has never changed to my palate & the packaging is understated & classy. Talisker 10 is the winner 👍
I'm surprised that most people prefer the Talisker 10. I go for the Highland Park 12. More subtle. Besides, even though I don't mind to drink Talisker 10 I like other Taliskers better, like the Storm, or the Port Ruighe.
Your taste will change. The old talisker 10 has a lot off pear on the nose and the new 10y old a lot off green apple. It's weird. I wish you tried them both too. It's so weird. But they said that there recip/cask changed . Love both talisker 10y Olds. You should really try them next too eachother.
I’ve noticed that Talisker 10 has huge peat differences between different bottles. One bottle I had was peppery and sweet, while the other was darker and smokier.
Wtf never had this happening too me. The talisker 10 is one off the best single malts price/quality out there. And because I like to drink a dram off 2 a day it my go go to have a little stash. And yes I have a lot off other scotches like the Islays (lagavulin 8, 12, 16, ardbeg 5,10, uigedail, corryvreckan, Laphroaig 10 (cask strength) , Bruichladdich (port charlotte10) but these ones are not for daily consumption imo. So I stick to Ardbeg 10 or talisker 10 and yes I drink the highland park 12 also every so often. Any recommendations? (No Islay ones I have or tasted most) but more island (highland) ones?
Hate to say it but Highland Park ain't what it used to be. Really wish they bottled at 46% with no chill filtration, then we would have a real contender. Like them both but Talisker is a really, really good winter dram & were heading into winter so Talisker pips it for me. Bunnahabhain 12 beats them both hands down though, had to say it
Agreed. I bought Dark Origins when still available, yes, it's a bit young and rough but above 46% and ncf, that's the only way to go. There's plenty to criticize about both companies while both distilleries have a lot to offer. I would want for island whisky to be matured on the island. In fact, any whisky should be matured near the distillery.
@@harryviking6347 was just at the one in Oslo City, they sell Uigeadail wich has 54,2 ABV. No idea where you live, but I love the Vinmonopolet in Oslo!!!
Neither are my favorite because I haven't tried them. However, based on commentary, I will go with Horst! So, Highland Park gets my thumbs up. Can't beat Horst's facial expressions.
It's usually very good and consistent but a few years ago I picked up a 1 litre bottle in a airport to take on holiday and it was really ordinary. Had a similar experience with the last bottle of Clynelish 14 and a number of other people said the same. These expressions are are produced at such a scale that it only takes a couple of below par barrels to do that to a limited batch.
Welsh Toro my current bottle is great the previous bottle had an overpowering burnt caramel thing going on. Ps I always enjoy reading your comments on the various whisky you tubers vlogs, all the best.
Haven't had HP12 yet, but I like Talisker 10 a lot. Not quite as aggressive as the Islay peat bombs I prefer, but it's got great balance, and is nice for when I want something not quite as peaty as my Ardbegs.
I love the father and son banter in this episode. You have such a great relationship. Fun to watch. I do drink both of these. I have to be in the mood for the Talisker 10, but I can drink the Highland park 12 whenever. As a result I think Highland park wins for me.

Talisker all the way, much more complex and mouth filling. Nothing wrong with HP12, but it's less exciting.
Do they chill filter their products since they are all 45.8%?
also 30 canadian more

Powerful smoky ocean spray vs expertly balanced malty smoke. Two of my favorites. Great video Horst and Ben .
Best ever whisky face off.
Especially the “toilet cleaner” part hahaha

Talisker for me 😃
Laughed through most of the video. Best whiskey review video I have ever seen. Great work gentlemen.
Hilarious! Love this cage match like roast style comparison tasting! So funny and entertaining! Keep em coming! (Love the beard by the way)
Buy both. Two great whiskies.
nah, buy better stuff than either for less
I adore episodes like this. Nice work lads, cheers.
you two should be on the TV. love the rivalry.
I love HP 12 (43% ABV here in the US) for the balance but I haven't tried Talisker yet. Looking forward to it.

Highland Park 12 for me all the way❤ but the Talisker 10 is also a good one since i have a bottle at home, it was a friend of mine who suggested Talisker 10
I've had a few bottles of each, and I just don't care for Highland Park. Talisker is usually delicious.

You guys are great fun to watch, have tasted neither....but definitely would like to start with highland.
I bet they had a few drams before recording this one, just gold hahaha

Awesome guys, loved it!
2 of my favorite
The last Talisker 10 I had had a very spicy finish. I don’t recall that on the previous bottle.
Was it the new 10y old one?
Highland Park never disappoints
Was hoping you guys could do a Lagavulin 16 vs Talisker 10!
There are moments for each whisky, but for me there are little bit more talisker moments.
I'll go for Talisker.
I would love to have a father to enjoy fine whiskey with. Y'all are very lucky 😊 cheers 🍻 ❤

That’s a HARD contest. Really depends on my mood . But
Both are balanced but obviously coastal whiskys.
Talisker 10 is like iron maiden, no nonsense, hardcore , full metal experience.
Iron Maiden is not bad. But it Will never beat Manowar as the true and real metal;)

Good review. You should put some weight and compare Talisker 18/25 with HP 18/21/25.
