UPDATE: I've gotten a lot of comments on how to IDJ properly. Here is a useful video by DarTheory4 that explains the buffer and rhythm needed for Sora's IDJ combos: th-cam.com/video/MLxMmjiAjV0/w-d-xo.html Thank you guys for all the comments and support, super cool to see Also, for some reason the TH-cam chapters aren’t working at the moment, not sure why. Time stamps are still in the description though. Hopefully TH-cam fixes itself
Great video, would love more! Particularly on consistant ways to win neutral, take stage control and take stocks at late percents. I like the idea of a video going in depth on Sora's Up Air to Up B confirm as well. Looking forward to any more videos you release on Sora
I'm now making it a mission to watch at least 3 minutes of this video whenever it shows up on my recommended. This is the Sora Bible and I'll keep coming back to it.
"In this video, I'm going to show Sora's optimal combo routes --" Yeah, right. I hate these videos cuz they're always a bunch of fake combos that lose to the opponent having their hand on the controller -- *sees "DI RIGHT" in top of the video* Based content. Vid may be a year old but this is how this type of video should always be done.
Everything about this video as perfect! Your explanations, voice, editing, combos. I’ve watched every combo video on Sora I can find and this is definitely the best. I really appreciate the work you put into it. I’ll be coming back to this one for a WHILE
I haven't seen a video this thorough on a characters combo routes since My Smash Corner went completely dormant over 2 years ago. You have my sub and notification bell on
2:59 quick interjection: Due to a bug in how ultimate handles bonus hitstun, the +10 bonus hitstun applies to all hitboxes on f8 of nair. No, this wasn't fixed
This will definitely elevate my Sora gameplay. GREAT guide! Thanks so much for making this - it was SUPER well done. Will definitely be coming back to this video from time-to-time to brush up on things
This is gold. So glad that someone took the time to show what his true potential can look like. Beyond the Twitter clip combos. This is super helpful, I will be coming back to this video alot as there is alot of good info to unpack and memorize here. I been labbing his idj combos as well and it didn't take long before I realize that there are sooo many options and set ups to explore. But getting this stuff down I feel would take anyone's sora to another level. Btw I don't have the mod or anything so I'm not sure if this is true, but I noticed on certain characters u can idj nair, and if u time it right and get nair 2 super close to the ground, it can combo into d tilt. Have u tested this? Cause if it's true, that opens up some combo routes that wouldn't normally work on some characters. Anyway thank u for putting in the work to make this video. I know I will be putting this info to good use!
This was absolutely amazing. Thank you for fleshing all this out. Can not wait to watch it again with a pen and paper to really drill it into my brain. Thank you again
my problem is always the input difference between online and offline feels so drasticly different. Combo percentages are also just hard as hell for me to know when things do and don't work
Awesome Job! I liked, subscribe and press the bell for notifications. This video is super awesome especially for those who main Sora!!!! Fantastic job Dusty! :)
Awesome work on this vid! I’ve been playing Sora for a while now, but I haven’t gotten the hang of his IDJ stuff yet. I’ll definitely keep these in mind, hope you make more Sora content in the future!
You did a really good job with this. Legit guide. A lot of people were just so hype about sora they were posting whatever bs they were coming up with. I like how you explained and broke down what was true and not true. Much appreciated from a big kingdom hearts fan. Keep up the good work
dude u are a god send for sora players. thanks for the combo vid to practice. im trying to get the input down after the first Nair. i think its fast fall down to down tilt into fair fast fall down tilt into up tilt.
Hey dusty, I found a pretty interesting tech with sora that I wanted to let u know about. It's basically firaga nil or no impact landing. When sora shoots a fire ball, his legs spread out and he moves up slightly. If u time your jump and firaga correctly, u can make it onto a platform with little to no landing lag. Either short hop, and at about the apex of the jump use firaga, which is the slower but easier method. Or u can full hop and use firaga a bit below the platform. Full hop method is harder to describe, but you'll know when u get it. This opens up some new and more reliable firaga combos. The biggest and most relevant things being that it lets u true combo into down tilt, grab and Nair. Can get some other things like f tilt, dash attack, sonic blade, up b ect. But the first 3 are the most useful. Feel free to play around with this tech and let me know what u think. I believe it can be quite useful in some scenarios and make platform stages that much better for him. Anyways although this video is a bit older now, it's what inspired me to pick up sora and have been using him ever since. Hope u get this message. Take care bro!
Here’s to hoping for a max rage combo guide ^^ Many times am I able to live at super high percents as Sora. Would definitely be very helpful tysm for this guide though!
Do you have any tips on landing the full hop nair -> falling nair 2 on the platfrom you did in the very beginning? I'm having issues connecting the hits and Mario would land on the platform after my first nair hits him.
It sounds like you need to delay the first Nair 2 (before the fullhop), which will let Mario fall towards the ground, so he wont get popped up onto the platform.
@@dusty_carpet3359 Yeah delaying the nair 2 definitely helps, especially since it can still true combo into the full hop nair. Timing is really strict so I'm gonna keep practicing it to get used to it. Thanks for the help!
I’m new to smash been having a hard time understanding how to do these combos. On fighterz people put the whole combo description in the video and if you should be holding forward or up forward but none of the smash bros videos on combos tell me any of that. I know what idj and nair is but don’t know if I should be fast falling or moving forward or when to fast fall
Something I've found that could contribute (unless it was already here and I missed it), a meaty falling nair1 can combo into dtilt. If the nair1 is meaty enough it's a true hitstun combo in training mode at 100%+. Iffy on di, probably stops working with away di at higher percents. Feels like falling nair1 and fair1 are decent neutral options so I'd value any combo that can start off of them
For dubble jump nair loops, you have to press jump 2 times instantly and remember to nair wait fast fall nair. Then do that again, and look at the appointment to see if they're way too high or not. mmbruh...
Bayo’s aerial Bats’ Within is frame 1 so many of these don’t work against Bayo 😔 Overall though, this is definitely an amazing guide! I’ll for sure be taking a look at this often to try to improve my Sora combo game!
This is kinda nitpicky but if you could add something in the thumbnail to make it easier to spot I zip past it wherever I look for it It's mostly me lol Amazing video though *chiefs kiss*
one thing I would like to ask is the Nair ladders on tri-plat stages like battlefield. Do you do full hop Nair 1 before you reach the peak of your full hop or at the peak?
How are people inputting idk nair consistently? I can't double tap X Fast enough to get the DJ to come out that low to the ground. Are people using tap jump? Cus that's the only thing that comes close to working for me
Usually you want to do it by buffering a jump (which can be done by pressing jump during the last few frames of a move ending) and then pressing again to get the idj. You have to do this really fast. So I’d map out your buttons so you have a reliable second jump button.
Is it possible to be good with Sora with out idj? I meant like the idj Nair and fair stuff I can do the up air up b combo but I try practicing the idj Nair for hours and watch videos. I still can't do it at all
It’s possible, but you will be missing out on lots of good combos. IDJ is easier in these instances because we’re able to buffer it out of endlag. I recommend watching the snasen video linked in the description for more info on this method.

You did a great job on this, both for Sora’s combo routes and your video editing/voice recording. Good stuff!
Thank you! Big fan of your videos
It's bizarre how much Sora actually plays as he would In his own game 😅

Fantastic job. Always felt like there was more to Sora outside of a few confirms you see. Stuff like this is what makes playin him so much fun.
Great showcase! Love watching videos going really in depth like this, even if I don't play the character myself.

one thing I would like to ask is the Nair ladders on tri-plat stages like battlefield. Do you do full hop Nair 1 before you reach the peak of your full hop or at the peak?
Before the peak. You won’t be able to buffer the Nair due to it being a full hop, so you’ll have to be quick with it
Mashing double jump offers the same reward as idj since sora take so long to go up
How are people inputting idk nair consistently? I can't double tap X Fast enough to get the DJ to come out that low to the ground. Are people using tap jump? Cus that's the only thing that comes close to working for me
You can buffer IDJ out of endlag. Watch the video by Snasen (I linked it in the description) for more info on this method
Are you gonna do an optimized combo video for slingshot combos as well? I think that’d be neat.
Could you explain how to perform the IDJ? pls 👏👏
This video by Snasen goes into how to perform IDJ; Sora uses the buffer method in his combos. th-cam.com/video/DJfzDibpgKc/w-d-xo.html
How do you idj with sora
