    Akaso V50 Pro SE does 4K at 60fps, 1080P at 120fps and 720 at 240fps. Only 130 bucks. Just ordered one and excited to see how it works out. From what I have seen it is better than the Elite and regular Pro.

    great video! Wondering how you found the mic quality on these to be

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is usually subjective, but... I like a lot the Mic on the SJCAM SJ8 Plus. The mics based on the iCatch V50 chipset (thieye and akaso) sometimes sounds weird in the first 20 seconds, however after that it is fine. Firefly has a good microphone too.
      From these models, the Firefly 8SE arrives with external mic; The Akaso V50 Pro supports external one. Not sure about the SJ8 Plus.
      If you are looking for really good sound - you will have to go external. Perhaps the cheapest GOOD solution is using a recorder (Zoom H1/H1n - costs around 100 bucks) and lavalier mic close to your mouth - Aputure a.lav (price is around 40 bucks). Here you can hear the actual comparison: th-cam.com/video/SUwpoYAOFns/w-d-xo.htmlm34s

    • @TechMishka

      Each one has good sides. It depends a lot on the kind of usage - I need stabilized 4K and out of these - maybe the SJ8 Plus has the best stabilization.
      Some people need good 1080p @ 60fps - and looks like the FIrefly 8SE is the best there.

    These cameras are too worried with more pixels while they should really improve their dynamic range, being outdoor cameras as they are.

      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a very, very true statement! I still use from time to time the good old SJ4000 - because of the reasons mentioned. It has smaller pixel count (2MP sensor) and because of that shoots really good low light videos.

    Thanks for your vid. Any difference between H7s and H6s?

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there are in fact a lot of differences in the hardware compartment - the H7S has no EIS and this will result into shakier footage. Also, the 4K on the H7S is most likely interpolated, as the chipset doesn't really support 4K.

Battery can't go in smoothly. Recorded videos still poor at all kind of setting. 4k 30fps video looks like video taken via year 2000 handphone. Customer service is at the bottom. My buddy just asked me last night what my choice for an affordable action cam that could be used as a dashcam, I recommended the brands campark or activion as they are usually good but any cheap 1080 cam is usually decent for a dashcam. For less than 50 dollars American you can get a decent cam, just search "action cam" in Amazon sort by average review and go to town. Or go refurbished from GoPro ;)

    @thejohn6614 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    thank you for the video. I'm having a hard time figuring out which camera to get. I just need one that records good quality video with audio (the audio doesn't need to be great) for riding dirt bikes and motorcycles. I just want to be able to record what I'm doing, watch it, and sometimes upload it to friends. I'm concerned about battery life because I hate having to charge things all the time. If you could recommend a camera I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John, thanks for the detailed description that you give. Usually when there's wind going to the microphones, you won't be able to hear anything properly. It will record fine in still condition.
      Each of the reviewed models records with good quality - this is my intention - to show you the best budget 4K cameras - meaning that they not only are affordable, but also have hardware which can challenge the GoPro Hero 5 at least. So whichever you pick, you will like it.
      I'd choose between SJ8 Plus, FIrefly 8SE and Akaso V50 Pro. Likely, if playback is also important - keep in midn that the Firefly 8SE has no speaker, so you hear no sound when playing back via the cam. Sould is of course there and you will hear it on your PC.
      As for battery life - find a small power bank and keep it around the camera. No other way :-)
      The action camera with the best battery life I've ever tested is the Mijia 4K. But that won't go beyond two hours, no matter how hard you try.

    Does the ThiEye Edge have the same sensor as the E7? Did they upgrade the firmware? I sold it because while 4K looked very good, 1080p 60fps looked terrible. Pleasing colors but worse results than the Firefly 8S. For now I care more about 60 fps as it is great to slow down 80 to 50 % the footage. Good roundup but hard to tell what's better what not. Although that GoPro 7 time warp feature that you show looks really amazing. An important factor to me would be how easy is to find spare waterproof housing. A Firefly 8S housing (not sure if one I bought extra / aftermarket or original) I had cracked at the hinges (luckily not in the water), it felt like the plastic dried up, another one got a couple of hairline scratches. Also useful to know which cams are compatible with GoPro 3 / 4 housings. It would be great if at the end of the video you would give your opinion, like best battery life, best 4 k, best 10800, photo mode, stabilization. I do not think I am switching from the Firefly 8S. Does the GoPro 7 have a really better stabilization and image quality? i wonder if Time Warp could be added via firmware to a Go Pro 5

    Hi,
    First of all thank you for the video, been seeing quite a few of them to try and choose a good action camera for a low budget. And this video really minimized the my options.
    Of all the cameras you introduced, the ones I'm most appealed to get were the ThiEye T5 Edge, and the SJ8 Plus. Right now I can get the ThiEye a bit cheaper then the SJ8, but it's not a whole lot cheaper.
    You think SJ8 does surpass the quality of the ThiEye?

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, this could be very subjective. The SJ8 Plus is excellent, but if giving a little more money is fine with you - the SJ8 Pro is trending at very good prices.
      Also, I have seen a l of discounts of the Yi 4K - which is better than each one of the models shown here (only disadvantage is lack of stabilization in 4K).
      Still - if your choice is between the ThiEye model and the SJ8 Plus - I believe the SJ8 Plus is slightly better.

    Hi. Thanks for your review. And I want to know which camera is good for me. I am looking for narrow field of view with 1080 60p supporting Eis. Because I'd like to record flying RC helicopter. Some cameras I bought before didn't support Eis at 1080 60p narrow Fov. Would you give me a solution?

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Firefly 8SE does that, however ... well - the narrow FOV always results into worse stabilization.
      The best thing you can do is search for the 90-degree FOV model of the Firefly cameras - with that option the stabilization is good, and the footage is good. Both Firefly 8S and 8SE have a 90-degree version.

    I realise that these reviews have a time limit, but there is information that those of us searching reviewers of cheaper cameras would like:
    1. Can you use it as a PC USB webcam? What resolution and frame rate do you get in webcam mode? does it have lens distortion correction - does it work in webcam mode? A good quality webcam will cost the same price as the cameras you are reviewing and yet have the limitation of being constantly tethered to a PC.
    2. Will the camera record while charging? If so it can be used as an in car dash-cam, or even a home security camera.
    I have two action cameras that I bought for £22 (total) that function purely as home security cameras. DBPower may not have a great GoPro camera killer reputation but I can attest their EX7000 cameras do work well for the price, and their customer support is quite amazing. Despite only paying £22 for 2x EX7000's on Amazon, when I logged onto their chat support to ask about obtaining spare batteries they apologised and sent me a Bluetooth soundbar with DAB radio as free gift.. and a spare battery.. the spare battery came with a whole new camera set. So I paid £22 including VAT for 3x EX7000 cameras and a Bluetooth soundbar.. all free delivery.
    3. If it has WiFi would the recommended software have potential security options such as record on motion detection, very low light recording etc. Reviewers often mention that they can be used on a phone, but forget that most SmartTV's can also use the apps as a monitor for the camera. I play my Apeman TRAWO recorded files directly via my 4K SmartTV over WiFi.
    Most of these cameras come with the option to record either in H.264 or H.265 mode. No reviewers seem to mention what the difference is, and why users should choose each codec for a particular use. I'm not suggesting that reviewers turn every $20 - $30 action camera review into a 3 hour marathon but you could make up a card to show these details quickly for a few seconds on screen. Part of the advantage of 'budget cameras' is that their functionality lends value. We aren't all hang-gliders, scuba divers, skiers or mountain bike riders, we have other uses for the cheaper type of cameras. We know the good manufacturers listen to reviewers, if reviewers don't cover useful information the manufacturers won't see such features as a priority. My number one priority when buying these cameras (I have a few of them) is whether it will function while charging. If I want stabilised footage I'll use the tripod or a gimble, I won't sacrifice image quality for stability. I tend to shake my head at reviewers who spend 10 minutes showing comparative EIS on cheap cameras, and then not bother to mentioning whether it can be used as a camera while charging. Should I buy the powerbank or not if taking snaps or a quick videos while outdoors. I'm old.. I generally don't run everywhere or use a skateboard, but I do buy action cameras.
    It seems to me that GoPro have set the agenda for every type of small portable high definition camera.. this doesn't have to remain the case. You don't have to rigidly stick to that agenda with every review. Perhaps we could have a wider variety of camera designs if we encourage the manufacturers to consider other uses.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good questions!
      1. Yes! ... but... you will need a microHDMI cable, capture card, and a lot of patience and it is not possible out of the box.
      2. Yes - you can charge and shoot. Note that cheapest actioncams have no sensor for protecting the battery from overcharging. Nothing bad - you will have to change the battery from time to time.
      3. You will be able to do that with the dedidated app, but I don't know hod good and reliable will that be in the long-run. There are a number of good statuc Wi-Fi surveillance cameras these days which will be a good fit.
      h264 vs h265 is quite a long topic. H264 is standard for video for many years and is royalty free. Therefore - supported by every device. The h.265 benefit is the optimized compression - usually for 2-3 times smaller files you get the same quality. But since it is not royalty-free, some vendors prefer to not adopt it.
      In the past months TH-cam is using more and more the AV1 - which is expected to be even better and to become really popular.

    Thanks for a great video! I'm taking the cheap, little Hype I-FX HD 1080p camera for $30 back to Home Depot and getting the Akaso V50 Elite. Your video helped me make the decision mainly because I bought some 128Gb Micro SD HCXC 100mbs cards for my Panasonic video camera and most of the other action cameras are not native support for 128Gb extended capacity cards. It's worth the extra money for the much better camera and the practicality of just having to buy one size, one type of SD card.

      Some action cameras actually support larger microSD capacity if you format the card in exFAT. THat used to be a trick to make the older SJ4000 support 64GB.

      Michael, I am really digging this V50 pro. I opted to also buy the Firefly 90° model; however, I have to wait very patiently for it, considering the sweet price that I got it for from Banggood.com. I am planning on shooting an extremely low-budget movie with the two of them, with the 90° for regular conversations ... although the V50 pro doesn't have much distortion when I shoot 2.7K with the "narrow" setting. I am learning the basics of DaVinci Pro now, which has a great free version. Current tech is pretty awesome!

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, current tech is indeed pretty awesome! :-)
      I am not that advanced with davinci resolve, but there certainly should be some ready-to-use presets for action camera footage - Adobe premiere for example has such kind of presets (well most of them should be downloaded externally) and they can correct the wide-angle distortions.

    I don't know if it is just me, but these budget action cams often seem to have video that is a bit jerky. I can't quite put my finger on how to describe it exactly. I can have the camera sitting still with the EIS turned off. If I then look at the motion of objects such as trees or grass, it can have a kind of jerky movement. Is it because the data rate is too low and the video too compressed ? Would I get smoother video if I shot at 720p ? I'm thinking of getting another budget action cam, so this video was helpful.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely it is because you often watch TV at higher refresh rate and you are used to higher FPS. I try to keep these videos at 30FPS, which for people who do a lot of gamin or watch higher FPS looks exactly as you describe it. Quality of all these 5 is quite good in fact.

    FIREFLY 8SE 90° version or 170° version nice choice

      It is mostly personal choice - both are good, and the difference is the angle of view. I personally would prefer the wide-angle view because of the more dynamics that it adds to the scene. You can shoot narrow with your smartphone's camera anyways 😎

    Akaso v50 pro is garbage, don't buy it. I get this camera because I bought and akaso EK7000 for my daughter and I was impressed with 1080p quality at just 59 dlls I thought v50 pro was going to be better but NO, I tried with 4k, 2.7k but the worst is 1080p video quality. Stabilization on this camera is just a joke you can see it in this video sample, jerky af. Stay away from this camera.

      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you say that the stabilization on the V50 Pro is worse than EK7000?

    • @gabrielcardenas1741
      @gabrielcardenas1741 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EK7000 has no stabilization at all and V50 pro has a poor stabilization, useless stabilization.

      Yes, a good camera. However it has no image stabilization - keep that in mind.

      @@TechMishka also it is not real 4k but interpolized 4k. For 1080p it is good for the price.

      I have a 4k campark camera, unsure of the model but I know it was not expensive, it's a great little camera. It's not as heavy or as solid as my GoPro hero 4 black but it's an awesome little 4k cam

      Ryan Marshall yea I’ve loved it so far. Just used it to shoot some skiing videos and it works great!

      I recently got a campark Xtreme I 4k cam - about £40 on Amazon. Mediocre for budget camera, but it's definitely not 4k more like 1080 interpolated up to 4k. Slo-mo 720p @ 90fps. Battery life mediocre, doesn't talk to my Mac, no image stabilization, needed to hunt around for Android app, had some problems with long videos (4gb) not writing to card due to fat32/exfat limitations... I think I'll invest in a reputable brand camera for more money when it's time to upgrade. Sometimes you do get what you pay for!

    Can any of them use an external microphone?

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure - you can get one on the Firefly 8SE, Akaso V50 Pro, and most likely on the SJ8 Plus (they make you use proprietary mic). The firefly 8SE arrives with an external microphone as part of the accessories.
