- Dimash Kudaibergen - Sinful Passion literally broke my brain a couple of times while reacting to this and like I said in the video, I want to say I don't know what else he can do to impress me but I don't want to jinx myself haha. No, there’s absolutely no question about it. Dimash is an Angel straight from the heavens.

This “ethnic sound” is used in arabic music, but is also a technique from ancient Italian/German music (17th and 18th century), that is called a “note ribattuta” or “ribattuta di gola”. It’s an ornament that is a main-note trill on a long-short dotted rhytm accelerating to end on either a tremolo or a regular trill. You can find it in several pieces, sung by countertenors. Apart from the ethnic influences from his birth area, It’s obvious that Dimash studied this ancient music and uses elements from it and mixes it with contemporary styles of music. He just takes all those influences in, masters them and has the taste to use it completely in service of a song.

@@sitinurulqomariyah1385 It was pointed out first by an Italian opera singer reacting to Sinful Passion on youtube, and I did a little more research on it afterwards because I wanted to know what it was exactly and where it came from. But I feel it is slightly different from arabic application though. In enthnic/arabic music I think it's called a "ululation" or "melisma". In ancient western times they used to apply it in an increasing tempo, I'm not sure if that's the case in arabic/ethnic music. I'm open to more insights on that.

All the flowers Dimash receives are donated by him to hospitals, nursing homes and such. He also donates to help people in need in his country and other places. Dimash is a humble person who cares for others. Hope you keep reacting to Dimash.
I've seen an interview of him as a kid, and even as a kid he had a sense of duty, of what one should do in one's life. Probably his education must have been very thorough.
He isn't here to enjoy the ride but to make a positive impact, very impressed by that.
Dimash has 6 octaves and a couple of semitones. You are right. You have to watch his performance and savour it like a delicacy. Freddy Mercury song is " Show must go on" He switched from chest to head rapidly. It was a tribute to the leadsinger of the band who died young. Our Russian and Kazakh friends can explain better. Because you stopped in the middle of the run and riffs, you missed the fact that he did it at one breath for 24 seconds. Next time if you stop, rewind. Composer Igor Krutoy was the first to stand up. He is a Russian millionaire who came back from retirement to work with Dimash. Dimash always gives the flowers away to homes of the elderly or disabled.

@@estera4176 I did some research. The band is originally from Kazachstan, which is predominately islamic. In Islam culture the woman lament the deceased inside the house, before he or she is carried outside to be buried by the men.
The lamentations sound like a yodel, a breaking of the voice, a switch between head and chest voice. You may have seen and heard it in news coverage of earthquakes etc.
@@lbrounen Yes, I found out about this. What I wanted to know is how do we know it's done in the memory of the band's singer. Has Dimash or his team/family talked about this or we just assumed? I don't speak Kazakh or Russian, for which reason I don't have access to certain resources, so I thought someone might confirm this. But I didn't get a clear answer yet.

you just don't know Dimash fans. Dimash always always had a hi Soprano as a child growing up and thru Purberty, because of his extensive training in music school & the private lessons as a child he continued to perfect his Soprano Octaves & it kept getting better into adulthood, he still takes lessons with the same instructor. there is a video of Dimash taking lessons. Dimash took 2nd place in this contest I am a Singer", 2nd because he was not Chinese. Undoubtedly he was the best singer there. He was a "Breakout STAR from "SOS" forward.

It's very common in Russia to bring flowers to your favorite singer, he's definitely gets a lot every time. The "triangle guy" is actually very talented percussionist, he performs with Dimash a lot.
He reaches that high because he started vocal lessons at 5 years old and trained through puberty so was able to keep his higher range. That plus 20+ years of intense training allows him to do anything he wants with his voice. It's amazing.
Interestingly enough he did in fact not start vocal training until he entered college and started with Marat. Before that he played the piano and sang in the choir, where he obviously got some training.
Do you see how far the mic is from him when he hits those stratospheric notes...that's POWER. I know some metal heads that would kill for that vocal power. And Dimash loves Rock and Metal that's why he's created his own style he calls Neo-Classical. His highest notes are off the f-n piano and his lowest baritone notes can shake he ground. Believe me when I say, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he puts out a straight up banger album one day. Right now he is honoring his parents and mentors with his more classical style but in concert that kid likes to Rock. The Queen song he covered was The Show Must Go On, and his accent was a but of an issue but I'm sure Freddy was lookin down thinkin WTF!!! I've been a fan of Dimash's for over 2 years, and he still blows my mind. Vape away my friend!!

That glottal trill is simply put..., the vocal cords that vibrates...., he has such control over his vocal cords, (and he has studied this, being from Kazakhstan, where this ethnic sound is more common.); And with ALOT of training and study, ( which Dimash has done....and is still doing), you can learn to control your vocal cords like that.
But....obviously one has to have a TALENT for singing; which Dimash has....and we are so LUCKY to be able to experience his talent. ❤

Hello, I’m from Brazil! The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental technique. The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band's name is A'Studio (Russian-based Kazakhstani pop music group, "Alma-Ata Studio", city of Almaty). The dead singer left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. The lyrics are by the poet Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebayev, who is the keyboardist with long hair, which we see in the video accompanying Dimash.

His english has got better and better over time but 'Across Endless Dimensions' is the first song where it's actually spot on (though he still maintains his charming accent of course). But his singing has... er... always been quite good. 😊

As a metalhead from decades gone by I never thought someone could capture my heart and soul at the same time but Dimash has. This young man has endless potential. He was blessed with a gift so amazing no one I think will ever compare to him. I've never heard anyone let alone a male singer hit a D8 which is higher than most notes Mariah Carey can hit. He is a treasure to us all. ❤
The man in white who gave a standing ovation is no other than Maestro Igor Krotoy. From then on, they make beautiful music together, Ogni Pietra, Passione, Your Love, and Where Love Lives plus covers of songs composed by the maestro.
Listen to DIMASH and you will sleep well at night. Dimash is different and he will even sing punk rock. But no one will sing like HE. Thanks for your reaction.
Fun fact is that Dimash told in interviews that he is a rockerboy himself, its his fav music genre, so he enjoys to cover some rock songs. His concerts are always accompanied by rock fusion sound and his band is always there. I think, due to his surroundings, people like classical producers and song writers that specialize more in Pop\classy style music write songs in that direction for him. In that case he kinda can't really explore his rock\metal side if nobody can create such music for him to sing. Ken Tamplin (famous rock vocal teacher) said that Dimash can freely sing in any style of rock\metal genre. And we are all waiting that from him that as rock fans.

Go back and listen to that ending note, Dimash sings that last run with all those key changes with one breath, 24 seconds. Dimash has all the flowers donated to elderly homes and hospitals. It's nice to see someone who prefers a certain genre, appreciate brilliant talant like Dimash. Yeah, don't say you have heard everything from Dimash, I have been listening to him for 5 years and he's just keeps getting better and continues to surprise me with differant styles and techniques.

I found this reaction today only and I liked it very much cause you're very honest guy. I share the same opinion about Dimash's talent. I like another kind of music but recently I'm apreciating a lot of Dimash's vídeo just because his talent is amazing. When you love good music you recognize a talented guy like him, it doesn't matter your kind of type of music. And here in Brazil, nowadays, there are lot of shit in music scenario. It's so desgusting! It's really sad to see these people with no talent being so rich and famous and a guy like Dimash and many others, so talented, and most part of the people don't know who he is. Shame!

That vocal trill is part of the Kazakh funeral / moaning traditions. Dimash put it in to honor the former singer of A-Studio who passed away a couple of years ago.
It is made using a technique similar to yodeling where you flip between chest and falsetto, but instead of holding the falsetto note, you immediately flip back to chest. With a good amount of practice, you can do that flipping back and forth in such a rapid succession that it sounds like the trill that he just did here. Unfortunately, I have forgotten the Kazakh term for it; maybe someone can fill me in on that.
Dimash receives lots of flowers, which he donates to nurseries, hospitals, retirement homes, etc.
Btw, did you notice that he sang the climax in one single breath for 23 seconds? Try to hold your breath that long, let alone belt out glissandos and riffs and crazy high notes at the top of your lungs.
Thank you for describing the yodel correctly. Too many people think it’s simply a glottal articulation when it’s a rapidly fluctuating register change, which is much more difficult.
@@scottblair3719 You're wrong there is no registry change (not at this rate), everything resonates in the throat here. For some people, the changes in the tone (which in fact are not any change in the tone or semitone) do not result from a change in the register, but from the amplitude vibrato on one tone, because in fact it is a vibrato (regulated by the pressure of displaced air). It is so from the technical point of view, because essentially we are dealing with an onomatopoeic stylization of crying, lamentation, which is quite important in the whole structure of a song about lost love. This stylistic figure resembles those used in makam or mugam.

1. "Sinful Passion" was created in 1998. First vocalist of A'Studio left the band two years after the formation of "Sinful Pasion", in 2000, and pursued his individual career, and died in 2015 (three years before Dimash sang the song). A'Studio is a band with an established position on the (not only) Russian market with many foreign concerts (they have been touring with a new singer - woman - for many [15] years). They are a pop band, more connected in terms of expression with European music culture. They do not spread any Islamic culture as you suggest. A'Studio was invited by Igor Krutoy to participate (individual concert) in the 2018 edition of the New Wave festival. Krutoy also invited Dimash to participate in this festival in the same year. This is how "Грешная страсть" (Sinful Passion) was performed, exactly in the 20th anniversary of this song. It was an inspiration for a joint performance, not singing as tribute of the former singer (which is sometimes circulated by commentators). The fragment of the music video with the original performance from 1998, in which you can see the first singer, was presented during the announcement of the performance on the New Wave, which is not included in the recording to which the reaction takes place. Dimash also - after the end of the song - thanks the composer Baigali Serkebayev (keyboards) for his and A-studio's musical work.
Dimash didn't change the original vocal line at all. He doesn't just sing the last original verse (which originally was ending the song after the instrumental part), which makes the whole song more dramatic: it speaks of greater love, greater loss, greater despair, greater desire, greater passion. The loss or lack of this love, in Dimash's interpretation, has the dimension of a loss of life, which one is very anxious to restore. In place of the original purely pop instrumental part (inserts), Dimash included (after the last chorus) his vocalise, a stylized onomatopoeic (like a lament) eastern ornament and the words "дай мне, дай" (give me, give) with a 23-second melismatic on the last syllable, which is not a simple substitute for a pop musical theme, but an extension of the story sung earlier in words.
E K sure....🙄. No way is that a fancy vibrato. Please, at least, don’t tell me you think Dimash uses his whistle register around E6.

Dimash, amazing for the ears, you man, entertaining for the eyes and ears. 💚
The sort of yodeling sound Dimash uses that sounds so strange is a type of singing that is common in some of the Euroasian indigenous cultures including Dimash's country, Kazakhstan. Dimash grew up with that type of music and is a big promoter of it. He tries to include the raditional sounds of Kazakhstan folk music in many of his songs. He is a master of that music. That fast modulating of the vocal folds is often called "Throat Singing" and it is very difficult to master. Another musical tool in Dimash's toolbox.
Exactly! i did not really hear mongolian throat or western yodeling, i was thinking the sound is to full to be tuva? if its like yodeling is he just riding the edge of his chest and head registers and undulating back and forth, but not as drastically as in western/american yodeling? it sounds almost like he doesn't make the switch between registers at the same volume so the chest isn't as loud, almost like a leftover note, but bring back the volume in the higher register. it's not a full closing of the sound like in staccato, but the effect makes it sound like super fast staccato with a slight reverb or using breath to interrupt the note? i'm not a musican so please dont tare me apart if i'm way off, dimash has just turned me in to a lover and study of music, so i'm trying to better understand it.

I believe it's called "melisme" and is a Middle Eastern technique, which he inserted there to honor a Middle Eastern friend who had died some years ago on the same day of this performance. 3. This isn't Dimash saying "he would like the stage porters to come and get his flowers", only the presenter at this festival says humorously that soon young porters (молодые носильщики) will enter the stage to take Dimash flowers from the stage (in the sense of helping to take them out).

I read somewhere that part was called a lament in honor of the lead singer of A-Studio who passed away already. This is a cover of A-studio's Sinful Passion which you can also hear on YT in its original form. Also, some have characterized the technique as yodeling or a type of throat singing technique. I couldn't tell you tho. It'd be cool to react to the Arnau concert version. You can see his face while he does the technique.

Dimash gets flowers and gifts everywhere he goes where it is allowed, at concerts, airports etc. He is pretty much securities nightmare because he usually goes right out into the audience. That being said, as in New York even he came right off the stage to interact with fans. Security had to run behind him but people respect him so it is a lot of fun. He usually takes the flowers with him but many times there are so many people have to help him. He donates them to area hospitals and nursing homes from what I understand. Please do Know from Kiev. It is strictly a vocalise, so you see him sit flat on his backside and just vocalize. Hauntingly beautiful. His Kazakh song Durdaraz from New York is amazing and has a pretty heavy beat.
You missed that the last part was crazy run in one breath 20 something seconds :-) I wasn't listening to this type of music before I discovered Dimash, now I listen to it every day :-) And you'll discover more sides if him in other songs
Losing the ability to cognitively process information, whilst watching Dimash do his thing, is a completely normal side effect of the dimash experience. We call it being Dimashified. When everything you thought you knew about life, the universe and everything, is turned on its head. Our brains have trouble accepting it as reality, and we have to watch on repeat to analyse and understand what our eyes and ears experienced.

The "smack in the face" explosion was 24 seconds of runs up and down the scale on ONE breath. He's a vocal monster. Hearing that you're a metalhead, a friend of mine (who also loves Dimash and is a metalhead and a gamer) introduced me to the Mongolian metal group The HU. Check out their Wolf Totem video. As for Dimash, his Queen cover is very unique and different from Queen's version (it grew on me) and please keep in mind, he learned the song in something like a week and he didn't speak any English at the time.
