You can so see how much thought she's put into every single word she sings. When she says, "First a witch, then a child, then a prince, then a moment," look at how distinct her take on each of those words is. She's phenomenal.
Thank you! Someone said it. I really feel passionate about how thoughtful she is. Truly a smart actor, all under the elegant appearance of goofy and relatable. It’s why she’s so likeable! As an actor, I learn from her just by watching.
Zachary Walker it’s just difficult because jack has to sing “your fault” and with his dental condition i can’t imagine him trying to keep up, let alone have everyone understand through his very intense lisp. not to say he can never do theatre again! he’s just not equipped to play jack if he can’t fully deliver (at least in my opinion)
@@dianeericson7900 I don’t believe in that. The great thing about theatre is people do things differently, and sometimes better, sometimes against how people feel it should be portrayed.
Her facial expressions are always absolutely fantastic. Such a brilliant actress. So naturally funny. She doesn't even need to try, and I'm catching my breath.
🐝 Agreed, Each makes it her own. You will probably delight in Joanna Gleason’s Baker’s Wife as well. She originated the role on Broadway. Also, Imelda Staunton was a fabulous Baker’s wife in the London production. I hope you can see or hear them all.
Oh, what joy: The magnificent Sutton Foster, singing one of my favorite Sondheim songs (although “song” seems such an inadequate category for anything Sondheim).
Other than the original, of course, this is the probably the best performance of this song I’ve ever heard/seen. Such a thoughtful performance and the singing just effortless. 👍🏼👍🏼
!!! have you even SEEN joanna gleason's performance!?!? there is a 1991 recording available in full on youtube, and she is incredible in it. I had always heard people hyping up bernadette peters' role in the show, but imo gleason is the real star. she has so much stage presence, she feels like the main character in every scene she's in

Wow, I love her in this role. I usually find her voice too nasally and brassy to be enjoyable, but this sits perfectly in her chest and lighter high notes. Beautiful.
I recently saw Into The Woods on Broadway, and I couldn’t stop thinking about Sutton’s performance from H’wood Bowl. Sara Bareilles is fine. Sutton really has the magic sparkle and she’s busy slaying it over at The Music Man. Anyhow - thanks for posting this and wish the upcoming cast recording was with this cast 😅🙊
You have just made a tremendous discovery! Check out Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek, Violet, Little Women... and especially Anything Goes. She can sing and tap dance for 5 minutes straight. It’s ASTONISHING!

This is easily the best cast of a stage production of Into the Woods since the original. So much heart and humor.
I agree with that on almost everyone besides Jack... idk, I just really didn't like Gaten Matarazzo's Jack🤷🏼♂️
