    This week I install 3 new interior slab doors. This way I could leave the trim and door jambs in place. I had to router out new hinge slots and drill new holes for the door knob. This project was made a lot easier with the help of some jigs from Ryobi. New doors can give your home a whole new look so check out the video to see how!

    Eggshell finish on the black door is for sure working. Well done.

      Welcome to hanging slab doors. Prehungs are a lot of work, too. Doors in general are a huge pain in the ass and require a lot of technical knowledge and banging your head against walls. I respect carpenters who've got doors down to a science.

    Didn’t realize it was this hard to replace a door! Great choice - a worthy upgrade

    Thanks for documenting the process and sharing with others. This is exactly what I needed to start on my interior door slab replacement.

    Love the design and how the doors turned out. My cheap ass probably just would have painted the originals black 😂

    Looks great! Doors can be tricky. I used to think that buying jigs was kind of spending unnecessarily and have done a complete 180 - if they save time and make you feel more confident in getting important cuts correct the first time, they're worth their weight in gold(en key design).
    Forgetting which side is the front/back was so relatable. I accidentally mounted our fence gates on backward last week and had to remove/remount all 3 of them.
    Also dat clean 14:13 transition! Love those.

      Yeah, I never used to use many jigs, but these ones were so helpful and made the process much more efficient. Love the pun haha! I love the transitions too but they take a lot of planning ahead haha! Thanks for all the feedback once again

    4:30 you need to bevel the edge of the door. Full and square means just that-- and that won't fit into most hinge situations. Your easiest solution is to hit it with a router's chamfer bit to take off the leading edge. That usually works but might rub on the jamb occasionally. Alternatively is to set your skilsaw or table saw to a roughly 7 degree angle and cut the edge of the door. Either way you'll need to prime the raw portions of the door (you should prime underneath the hinges as well as all cut edges) and paint all 6 sides. On the painting, you'll get the better finish if you use Floetrol. Alternatively paint the centers of your panels, then the edges, then the stiles and rails. You want to only contact wet edges. Don't be surprised if you need to touchup the stile & rail doors. For your bathroom door, you should have painted the inside half of the jamb white and the hinge edge white as well. That'd prevent the strips of black as you saw.
    With your solution, if you've not run into the issue yet, you may never. But next time you try in a different season, you may well have a door that gets stuck closed if the jamb is making contact with the stiles.
    Otherwise great job!

    Love the doors!! 💕💕 Why roller painting vs spray? I'm considering doing my doors as well and curious about one vs the other.

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! In hindsight, I think spraying would have been better, but I still got a great finish. I thought rolling would take less time overall but I think spraying would have actually been faster even with the prep and cleanup. Hope that helps!

    Looks so much expensive and within the vibe you are going for. The tricorn black is my favorite black. I see you chose eggshell finish … normally higher gloss is recommended for doors and jams due to the constant touch and is easier to clean. I would love to know if the eggshell finish would live to the use.

      @GoldenKeyDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that the these doors really level up the space and for not too much money! The paint I used is actually cabinet grade and is extremely durable. I personally think semi-gloss and gloss sheens look dated so I always use satin or eggshell sheens. I recently painted cabinets with this same paint in a satin sheen and those have also held up well.

      I appreciate your feedback, but the traditional 6 panel design and dark stain didn’t fit the rest of the home’s aesthetic. We love the new style door and color!

      Disagree. The doors look great but the ugly trim is still ugly.
