I just finished my first cycle with a cup!! No learning curve. No leaks. No more other products. I'm definitely wanting all my friends to try them. Its truly life changing!!!
@@SpitikobyAparnaReddy So if your leaking and your cup is fully opened, and without any creases, I would also recommend cleaning the little holes around the edges making sure they are clear as they create suction. The other things that come to mind if those aren't the issue are cup size, flow, pooping. Is your cup the right size? Even though they say I should use a size 2 or B cup, that's half true. In the beginning of my cycle our cervix is high and I need the larger cup. I still need to empty my cup every 6 hours during my few first days. (Endometriosis yay 😭) Then middle to end of period, the cervix is lower. Big cup brothers me. Need to use small. So I think we need more than one. So is your cup the correct size and are your changing it to flow versus the 12 hours all cups say 🤣🤣. And finally pooping 💩💩💩 lol. They say you dont have to take it out. But I almost push mine out, its uncomfortable and out of position. So I just take it out. Also your cup should feel comfortable when it's open and in correctly. You really shouldn't feel it. Get to know your vagina. The cup should be positioned almost tucked to your pubic bone and sitting under your cervix. I truly hope this will help. It's been almost a year now and I would go back. And the cups I get are $12 for 4 on Amazon 2 of each sizes. Haven't used or bought any pads or tampons. Lmk if theres any other way I can help. Wishing you the best!!
@@pendharkaranuja I buy them from Amazon. Lms if I can give you the url of the set I bought. 4 cups, 2 sizes for around 12dollars. They are perfectly in between soft and hard. Comfortable, easy to use and open up, no leaks.
I felt the same way! Lots of tears ands felt like I was a weirdo with a vag too small to be normal. Emailing the cup company and lube helped so much..... I got you Courtney, what ever you need, I'll help.
@@Jacksonluv81 yeah the first time pulling the cup was so frightening. And that first was today. I got to know that my vag is also too small. This video helped me alot
I can not stress enough, DO IT IN THE SHOWER as much as you can. Its so much easier to get it in squatting in the shower. Also it makes less mess...obviously lol
one time I tried to insert it in the bath (my cup kept leaking so I was just sitting in the bath free bleeding out of frustration) and it just got all kinds of lost. Shower seems great. Do not insert in the bath. Do. Not.
Whoever people has developed mens cup.. Deserves a Nobel Prize.. Periods have never been same for me.. I can work long shifts, go to gym.. No stains, no worries.. Even less pain and cramps.. Yassss
SAME. The first three days of my period are incredibly heavy. Even super absorbency tampons constantly leaked and pads were disgusting. I got tired of my entire nether regions and inner thighs looking like a murder scene occurred. The ability to stay clean with a cup makes me beyond happy.
That last point is something that should get brought up more. I did so much video watching and googling before I finally bought and tried my cup, and I did not understand just how much my pain from cramps would decrease! Hell, it took me a couple cycles to realize that I was barely cramping at all, unlike with tampons where I would some days be almost stuck in bed or vomiting ridiculously from it (ftr I avoided taking pain meds as much as possible for a long while, with ibuprofen I would be fine) I just assumed I was one of the unlucky ones or that my pain was normal. Never would have guessed it was tampons.
@@BlueCLupei I thought its only me who experiences less cramps with cups.. I get very bad cramps if I use pads or tampons..even now.. So I avoid those unless very urgent..
I'm an old lady and years ago there was a cup out but it was not reusable. I loved that thing and I was broken-hearted when they stop making it. Happy to see that it's back again.
I'm one of the "cup changed my life" people because my period is so heavy the first three days that pads are a horrendously bloody disaster and tampons never open properly. Having said that, I find that it can still require some fiddling around from cycle to cycle to get it to sit comfortably without any leaks. The ability to stay clean and still exercise without feeling "the goosh" is so worth it.
I used the cup for the first time last month and I have to say, I may not be comfortable with it now since I'm still learning, but wearing it gave me the experience of having no rashes from pads and reducing the probability to another infection of which I am very happy about.
Does anyone else love the fact that you can just go commando now and not have period knickers on and the feeling of horrible pads that make you itch? 😂😂
Everyone 🤣 God how horrible to wear pads in the summer when it's hot as hell and you want to wear a dress and get all scared the pad is going to move or worse, make *that* sound... of a diaper
As a trans man. I love my cup. I don't feel it and i usually forget that im in my period. Since i just remove it twice a day (before going to sleep and beforme my morning shower) I don't need to think about my period
Megan Austin When someone is a trans man that means they are transitioning into a man when someone is a trans girl they are transitioning to a woman, if that makes sense 🙂
Not that expensive tho, got mine for 20€, bought my mom one for 3€... if anyone has money troubles - try aliexpress cups, medical grade silicone and super cheap ( like 1 to 5€)
I LOVE my diva cup. But I’m also confused now about the absorbency of pads and tampons, they’re fraudulent! It’s very little blood in the cup yet I have to change my tampon constantly🤔🤔 they’re not actually absorbent at all yet prices are sky high. INTERESTING
I just purchased one to try my next cycle. I'm watching the hell out of these videos so I'll not have so much of a terrible time the first time I try to use it. I just hope that I don't have cramps as bad as I normally do. I'm anemic so my first day I'm pretty tired and feel like I spend most of my day in the restroom changing tampons.
Tampons absorb more than blood. They suck up all your vaginal fluids, which will dry you out and make the tampon very uncomfortable to remove. I stopped using the foul things years ago.
I believe that tampon absorbancy is actually FDA regulated now a days because there was a super absorbent tampon in the 70s that was responsible for a HUGE spike of TSS
I just tried the Diva Cup for the very first time. It took me till my fourth attempt to get it right. I now know how to use it. It’s absolutely great! It’s so much cleaner, no more wee string on a tampon😂 no more irritation from pads. I noticed something else too. NO MORE PERIOD CRAMPS! for the first time in my life, I had a completely cramp free period. That has never happened, ever. So I really think my cramps may have been caused by the chemicals in pads and tampons. I think all women should be aware of this option as it’s completely comfortable and I couldn’t even feel my period at all like you do when using pads and tampons. I do the cup process in the shower and I work ten hour days in a factory. I never had problems and my periods are very heavy. I took a shower before work and one after work. No problems👍😊
@@saivanitha3950 it is possible that your cup is leaking because you have a high cervix, and are using a short cup instead of a long cup that will better fit to your cervix. I recommend you watch the TH-cam video titled 'MENSTRUAL CUPS // 8 things I wish someone had told me' by Gittemary Johansen! She helped me a lot with helping me get more familiar with how to successfully use one.
I definitely experienced the lack of cramps when I switched to a cup. It was amazing. But now that I have been using them for about 10 years, I do get cramps sometimes. Just much less than I used to.
I actually used to get tampon induced cramps. I realized when I would take out the tampon, and the cramps would disappear. That's what triggered me to try the cup, and now I'll never look back!
This was so helpful! I'm 16 and decided to switch to a cup since I'm a dancer and nothing is worse than having to rush to the bathroom during a quick change! I can't wait to start using a cup and your channel has encouraged me to make the switch^_^
@@yuuki7486 I'm currently using the Lena cup size small. (28 oz) A cup takes getting used to and you have to be comfortable with being able to reach up there to get it out and to do some research because what works for me might not work for you. To put a cup in you have to fold it as well so it can be small enough to go inside then pop open. My experience has been good but I am still figuring out the odds and ends to not leak and such. But honestly it had been so nice because I have a very very heavy flow so with my cup I don't have to carry around as many tampons in my backpack and it's nice to always have with you and small enough it is not a hassle. Like I said for me it was the BEST DECISION EVER!😂
I've been using a menstrual cup for almost 3 years now and absolutely love it! There is definitely a learning curve and it is primarily with getting to know your body, literally. Growing up nobody tells you how to find and track your cervix but knowing your body inside and out is so satisfying!
Ugh I so wish I had known about you guys when I was a teen and first starting. You're great role models and would have helped me with not being all embarrassed about my body. Your videos are always so empowering
Grace I’m 14, I really wanna use a cup. But I swear, they look huge, and even with tampons it feels slightly awkward sometimes. I feel like it would hurt a bunch, how’d you deal with just getting up there?
Unknown Person On Earth personally I recommend getting it wet first and doing the 7 fold. All the other folds would never unfold for me. Really just relax and don’t stress about it if a tampon is uncomfortable I don’t think you are putting it in right so practice with that too. It also sometimes depends on the cup and your cervix so some cups might be better than others. My cervix isn’t too low or too high and I use the blossom cup on amazon and it’s perfect. It definitely took me a full period and prior to learn but it’s my second period using it and I feel like a pro so just take your time. The internet and googling also really helps.
@@emmarife6605 Use the OrganiCup mini size! When I was 14 I was too scared of using a cup so I used reusable pads but now I'm 18 and finally got the courage to try a cup. Using a mini size really helped, it was much less intimidating for me! Using water-based lube also really helped!
Shes so right about it turning into a hobby n all of a sudden you want to tell everyone about it 😂😂 n collect different coloured n shaped cups. Edit - Don't worry people I only have one cup. I don't have enough money for it to become a hobby, I just like to browse and obsess over them online
This. I have 7 cups: a small and large Lunette, a size 1 and size 0 Diva, an Alicia cup, a Yuuki, and a Femmecup. Out of these, I only ever use the Yuuki, and the rest have been collecting dust for years. I've stopped checking out different cups to avoid the temptation of getting another one, but now I have literally no idea what to do with the rest of them, lol.
Just a quick thing. This video puts a lot of emphasis on "click bait" videos about people not being able to remove their cups, and how those shouldn't be videos that you rely upon. While I agree that some people do just want to blow smoke out into the world and profit off of it, your cup still CAN ride up if it doesn't suction properly. This happened to me the first time I tried my cup. After spending 2 hours trying to reach the base to remove it, I ended up going to the ER to have it removed. I am not some influencer trying to make a profit. I'm just a girl who had an unfortunate experience.
Yes! It happened the same to me, but here where I live there isn't a lot of information about menstrual cups, so the gynecologist in ER never gave me an explanation on why it happened, neither information about my cervix height, which I asked for. Moreover, it was very painful to remove, so I've never tried the menstrual cup again. What did you do instead? Did you find a solution? (sorry to disturb you, but you are the first one I found that had my same experience)
It could’ve been a situation where the suction went somewhere where it wasn’t meant to (explaining the discomfort) and it could’ve been done correctly but the shape could’ve been wrong for your body and since doctor didn’t know how to CORRECTLY remove the cup, the suction was broken improperly (that actually hurts like a b-word). Try feeling for your cervix over a few weeks, note the distance at various points in the cycle (especially throughout every day of the period), then go from there. Sounds to me like you’re relatively high up, though idk when you tried the cup. So you might try a longer cup... if this helps at all, yay. If not, hopefully someone can help! Best of luck to you both!
True that. I'll admit I'm one of the lucky ones, my cervix is somewhat easily within reach and my cups rarely ride up on their own. That said, before I even bought my Yuuki, I made sure I measured my cervix to get an idea of whether I would need a long or short cup. Preferably, you should measure towards the end-ish of your period, because the cervix tends to move higher as your cycle goes on. Many of the "cup riding out of my reach" incidents are due to the wearer having a freaky high cervix without even knowing. Of course, cups aren't for everyone. If you have something else that you're perfectly happy with, stick with it, but anyone looking to try a cup really shouldn't underestimate the importance of knowing where their cervix is.
For sure. For me, it definitely could have been as simple as using the wrong size of cup without any real guidance. I used the Luna sensitive small cup because that's the cup the brand recommends for beginner cup wearers. However, I have had a kid, and although I knew it's common practice to use larger cups if you've given birth, I went with the Brand's general recommendation. This actually happened with my last cycle, so I haven't tried any other brands or attempted to put in my cup again. Honestly, I just don't want to have to go to the ER and explain it a second time. 😂😂😂 I do eventually want to try again, though. So if anyone has any advice or favorite Brand's, I'm all ears.
Girls, you have no idea how good it feel to know that others have this problem too! You read only so positive experiences, I did not know what to do! It happened to me TWO times that my mestrual cup went almost out of reach and I had to really twist my wirst and stretch my fingers to get it! Plus, every single cicle, on the night between the first and the second day, so when there is a lot of stuff happening, my cup rides up while lying in bed and when I get up blood is leaking out because the suction seal has broken. I got used to the cup by now (2 years using it) and it never leaks except for this occasion. I guess I am one of those with a high cervix then. At least now I know!
Thanks so much for making these informative videos. I switched over to using cups at the tender young age of 47, and am still going strong as a card-carrying member of the “Cup Cult” at 51. By the time I had even heard of cups and was ready to take the plunge, none of my contemporaries were using them (and in fact, many were no longer in need of menstrual products at all,) so videos like this were extremely helpful. To all my bleeding sisters out there, using a cup really can be life-changing, once you get the hang of it. It took me several months of trial and error and 3 different types of cup before finding one that really worked for me, but once I did I never looked back, so if you are considering switching over, I send you all the love and support I felt from others who guided me through it. (Pro tip: the first time you try using a cup, you may want to pick a not-too-busy day when you can be comfortable and close to home. Don’t be like me and spend the entire day walking around an amusement park on vacation with your family while wearing an ill-fitting cup that you then gave to check on and/or adjust in public restrooms every half hour!) Also, a big THANK YOU to these straight-talking women for acknowledging that the cervix moves to different positions during the course of your cycle. I figured out years ago that mine does this, and when I tried to explain it to my gynecologist, she said she’d never heard of this phenomenon - MY GYNECOLOGIST!!! I knew I could not be the only one, but it is still nice to hear it confirmed. :)
Another thing you should be aware of: we are all build differently down there. Some cups wil work for others but not for you. Most people who had bad experiences with cups, simply had the wrong tipe or size cup for them. The specialized websites who sell those cups can often help you when you consult them with your problems. For example: I can only wear cups for teenagers or low servix, eventhough im 32 years old. I use my cup for two years now and it gives me so much more comfort! Best buy ever!
@@ideljenny I agree, at this point I've given up. I've used the smallest ones on the market, like the ones that are specifically made for sporty teenagers (so they're both more rigid and small). After having tried probably 8-10 different ones I just can't justify wasting more money.
Exactly! So often info says to pick a size by height and weight which is bs. I found the best explanation for me on the Selena cup site and therefore bought it. And it fits perfectly. They also have a great Insta account and seem to be good people so to speak. That was a seller for me too. I'm so excited cause I feel much better with the cup than the last 17 years with tampons and pads. 😀
You forgot to mention that if you have an intense period flow, you will have to worry about taking it off and on too often during the day, which can be very annoying, since it's not that simple and also can be messy.
There are some cups that come in multiple sizes. I have a heavier flow. I got to Diva cup. The silicone isnt as soft but it has size options and functions pretty well for me.
YES. People don't believe me about how much blood I lose. I never get to experience the "you can keep your cup in for 8 hours" because all the blood makes it overflow and breaks the seal after 2h
@@Cheers.- same here! At least on my firsts days it is impossible to last more than 3 hours without overflow... I have to wait until my ~3rd period day to use it for 8h straight and really enjoy the cup
I have a cup with a valve (I hope I use the right word, I'm not a native speaker). You just squeeze the tip and everything would come out, you release it - cup sealed again. So I don't have to remove the cup during the day. Pretty handy.
It took me about 3 tries (that is, 3 periods) to get the hang of it, and the hardest part was getting the cup out. The first time I managed to get it in, I took more than an hour to get it out at the end of the day through much frustration panic and a few tears. I did not go to the ER though. One of the best pieces of advice I read online was to just give it up and try again in a few hours if you couldn't get it out. Like they say here, your cervix moves. The other thing I had to figure out was to grasp the cup by the bell, not the little plastic tip. It's not there to help you pull it out as much as to help you locate it. I use it as my main period product now, but I do still use pads or tampons occasionally. The thing I loved about switching to the cup was how familiar it made me with my body. Having to reach two fingers in on a regular basis to remove it, and needing to reach in occasionally to feel if it's in the right place has made me feel so much more aware of what's going on down there.
"The other thing I had to figure out was to grasp the cup by the bell, not the little plastic tip. It's not there to help you pull it out as much as to help you locate it." A decent designed one would come out easily just by pulling the stem. Why haven't manufacturers realised that ?
@@millomweb Yoou don't want to be pulling n the stem as it will increase the suction and make it even harder to remove. Might be a way to design a cup with a stem that releases the suction for you though... it's an interesting thought
@@sarahhight5266 There's one called the flex cup, and it has a pull string with a finger loop that breaks the suction when you pull it, I think! Could be wrong but it would be great if it does that
Same here always had a leak unless I used the extra absorbance switched to a cup and was surprised how little I bled and even more surprised by no longer needing to make the stain remover my close friend.
I’ve actually “pooped” my cup out one time. Thankfully it happened at home, and I was able to sterilize it with hydrogen peroxide and boiling hot water before reinserting it. I always take the cup out now before I start pooping. :)
Molly Houx - sometimes I also pop it into the dishwasher with the dog toys when I wash them when I know that the rinse agent compartment is empty because you don’t want to have it coated in rinse agent. I also use vinegar and baking soda instead of dishwasher detergent at these instances. :)
I live in Italy and I’m 17, today I went to the pharmacy and I was so nervous. The man who was working there said that only a few people bought it, but it’s really worthy
I have endometriosis and started using a cup 7 years ago now! I bled a lot, so every time I pinched the cup it was messy... I love the cup, I just developed a love for skin friendly cup wipes to tidy up haha. I used the cup to measure my flow, and that's what made doctors take me seriously enough to get a diagnosis of endo.
@@padminip9482 I won't lie, it can do for some people and I found firmer cups like the Lena cup could do that. Out of the 4 I've tried, the Sckoon Cup and the Ruby Cup have been the best for not aggravating cramps. Though, if you're a beginner I think the Ruby cup is so much easier to use and the grips are good to help you get it out! I didn't use it on my worst days unless I put it in for the night expecting my period may come :)
i love this girl! i just got diagnosed with endo and i know how bad it can be. i was so tired of buying tampons and wasting money and now that i bought a cup i swear it feels like i bleed so much less and i don’t hate when i get my period anymore because i don’t have to worry about have a 16 pack of tampons for a day trip. i just wanna spread the word to everyone i know haha

Love how you girls are straight up with the facts. That’s all we ask for at the end of the day are facts & info that will help all women that decide to use a cup. I have been using a cup for 4+ months & wish I had of been using it years ago.
I started using the cup last month and oh my god was it hell!! Like literally *BLOODY* hell!!! I tried wearing it on my second day of flow and oh, I couldn't wear it probably for three times and there was blood everywhere and then at last I just put it in anf hoped for the best. I went for class by cycling and while I was in class I couldn't feel the cup anymore. I even felt a *pop* and lo! When I returned home the cup hasnt leaked and I was dry on the outside!!! From the next day after I put it in, I try doing some leg maneuvers like stretching and squating to let the cup settle in and it works for me! So I would say that it needs some trials and errors but ultimately you may find a way that works for you :)
As gross as it may seem, I always stick a finger up there to make sure the rim of the cup is around the cervix and not squished between cervix and vag wall (mine doesn't always 'pop' open). Not great if you are in public unless it is a single stall with a sink but better than bleeding everywhere!
I love how straightforward this video is !! Honestly I had a pretty horrible first experience with cups, even after doing tons of research on them, but trying a different brand on my second cycle to become more familiar with them has converted me fully. Truly I think the biggest thing is to just get to know your body, learn your cup before your cycle, and just don't be afraid of either of these things. They really don't teach people with vaginas about their anatomy or their cervix or anything like that in a lot of detail, and it's so encouraging to see levelheaded, accurate information that's readily available. So thank you for this video and all the useful information you provide !!
Had the cup for almost a year, totally worth it!! It’s more comfortable than tampons, I way cheaper and I can leave it in for hours with no worries. Definitely recommend 👍🏻
Just the tip y’all 😂😂😂 I’m dying. This is the best product review ever. I’m 30, have had 2 vaginal births, and would not consider myself to be ignorant about my anatomy at all lol.....I had no idea my cervix moves during my cycle 🤦🏼♀️😂
I worked for a reproductive rights group for a decade and took graduate-level anatomy and physiology classes, but I just learned new things about my ladyparts from this video!
If you watch enough tutorials on insertion, your learning curve won't be so steep. What truly takes time is finding the right cup for your flow type and a cup for each cervix height position that will occur throughout your period so that you're comfortable and not leaking.
@@afreenasif681 ok, what kind of cup are you using? Is it that the cup is painful during and after insertion? Try a different fold. There's all kinds of videos on TH-cam showing these folds. If the fold doesn't help or isn't the problem, are you relaxed upon insertion or tense? Relaxing is the key! Also, try putting lube around the outside and the top of the cup. People don't recommend it due to cleanliness & potential risk of bad bacteria, but as long as you're focused on keeping the process clean from start to finish, you should be ok. If it's painful before, during and AFTER insertion, and you've done all these things, maybe you need a new cup fit for your cervix height. Measure your cervix height. Try consulting a menstrual cup specialist or a OBGYN. There are other alternative methods available for you. Good luck.
Mine went too far to reach once, but I just pushed it down, like kegel excercises but instead of pulling up, pushing down. No problem. Also one of my first cycles using it I got very drunk one evening and somehow it ended up sideways overnight, I didn't notice until I tried getting it out the next morning. No spills but it was awkward and uncomfortable to take out. That's never happened since, but it's a funny story to recall.
I also recommend a long, hot bath! The first time I used mine I had a similar situation and didn’t think about used my pelvic floor muscles 😂 now I’m used to it I can use em but a hot bath always helps me :-)
@@fuzzywuzzythebackyardigans2283 I had to get a good grip and not let go, try working from side to side as you pull it down, it'll help ease the suction.
Jacky Star I don’t think I do because when I used to use tampons I couldn’t push them all the way up as far as it should have gone because it would push up against something which from watching this video I guess was my cervix. At the time I thought something was wrong with me because of that and I felt in there and I could feel this ball like thing which I assume now is my cervix. I think I am just not meant to be putting things inside of my body. So I am using pads now again. I could feel it always and pinch it but every time I would pull, it would either not move or once I got it coming down it would go back in making me start from the beginning. Besides it was too painful to put in as well as trying to get it out and it made my cramps feel even more painful when I used it. I think it just wasn’t meant for me. I thought it would get easier over time but it didn’t. It felt like the same pain each time to me.
Things I wish more internet sources mentioned: lubricant can be a huge help in getting a cup to unfold and/or get where it needs to be. The kinds that do mention it usually don't go in depth enough to mention you don't want any that is effective. You want water based and safe, yes, but you also want something that is downright disappointing in it's longevity when used in an erotic context. That way, your cup will get where it needs to be early, but it doesn't turn into a slip-n-slide scenario.
55karly Yes it is! And second plus is that it removes makeup better than makeup wipes. I also use it as a moisturizer. Coconut oil is basically a 3 in one for me xD
A menstrual cup is the best thing ever invented. I do giveaways every month and always buy one to put in my giveaway basket. Yes, its an expense at first but savings in the long run. I love that you guys are being informative. Not to mention how much it saves from the environmental waste per year from just menstrual products.
I am so mad at myself that I thought the diva cup was so gross and didn't start using it a long time ago. I just started using it last month. I was lucky enough to get it right on the 1st try & now I'm hooked. I'll never use or buy another tampon again.
I grew up in a household where tampons were considered a little unhealthy and invasive, so when I tried the cup at first I was really scared (ie, "omg what if it gets stuck" or "what if I injure myself trying to put it in") tips that helped me: -cut your fingernails lol (i have scratched the inside of myself and it hurt like a mf) -use water based lube if you have a harder time pushing it in -bear down like you're taking a dump to "push" it out so you can grab it when taking it out -put a 12 hour timer on your phone if your flow is heavier (so you don't have to wrack your brain for how long you've had it in if you forgot what time you inserted)
Thanks for your tips! However, I have just read that since there is lack of regulation when it comes to menstrual cups. That being said, a common misconception is to "bear down" or push your cup out, however I've read various articles saying that doing so *may* put you at risk for vaginal prolapse. Just something to be aware of. There are some women who have been impacted negatively by that tip. I don't want to correct you but wanted to mention for anyone who reads these comments! May we all learn from each other!
I've been using cups for 2.5 years but in recent months i just can't stand it anymore. I don't know why but it's not comfortable anymore. Sometimes it doesn't even go all the way in! I don't know what changed but I'm back to tampons ☹ Any advice? Thanks
@@shelbyclark3733 i wouldn't know which one to get. And I don't want to keep buying different ones for ~$30 each. I think my cervix is shorter now than before?
Gently slide a finger (index/middle finger) up the side of the cup and press it away from the vaginal wall. Then hold it between thumb and index and twist it out. Let me know if this works!
I WISH someone told me about the cup forever ago! I discovered this magical thing about 8 years ago and have literally saved thousands! I have tried to convert anyone that would listen basically lol but I can appreciate that it isn't for everyone- or they just didn't give enough time to get the hang of it or find the one that fits and works best for them. To think of all the unnecessary awkward accidents, and all the money I could have saved as a teenager..... I wish I had someone to tell me about this thing way back then lol You ladies rock! Thank you for doing what our school systems failed to do 🖤💜🖤
My regret - 3 years after buying my cup, I had to have surgery that resulted in no more periods. I never got to get the full 10 years' worth of use out of it. Still, it was worth every penny and helped me determine - with numbers - how irregular my flow was getting as I aged. My gyno appreciated that information.
I really love your channel. I appreciate your sense of humor, your honesty and openness, and your very informative. I am a new cup user and your channel introduced me to the idea. I thank you as during my first period using Diva Cup, my cramps got soooo much better, and my ovarian cysts STOPPED! I truly think now that those chemicals that are in pads and tampons are what caused my cysts and extreme period cramps. These cups may prevent ovarian cancers if your no longer even developing cysts to worry about a cyst becoming cancerous. I’m not a doctor, but I do wonder if there could be some truth to that. I also think menstrual cups are a great thing for all the homeless women out there who can’t afford to constantly buy disposable products. It also cuts costs and environmental waste.
Cups have changed my life! I've been using mine for about 2 years now and I can say I have never felt better! Pads and tampons use to give me a rash and now I dont have to worry about that anymore! I do want to try other cups but I love my Lena cup so much! You are totally right about once you start using one you just want to talk about it and spread the word lol, I will talk about it whenever period talk is brought up. Thanks for making a great informative video!
Me too!! Even if others are ickked out my the blood talk but like, look at the positive side!! Just use a soap and wash your hands after and forget you are even having your periods!!!
Love the cup and I can really recommend it to everyone. It changed my life FOR REAL. I always felt so uncomfortable when I was on my period (It was literally the worst time each month) after I discovered the cup I felt amazing and comfortable on my period-time. CUPS ARE LIFE CHANGING!
Zuzanna yes! i used to use disposable pads, and i was uncomfortable the entire time while on my period. now that i use a cup paired with a cloth pad to catch any leaks, it’s a million times more comfortable. it also helped my mental state during that time of the month. i’m still moody and generally upset during my period, but now that i’m not physically uncomfortable anymore i feel better about being on my period
Honestly, thank you both. It feels good to know that there are people like you two who will push through the tabu discomfort and offer women tmi, which honestly to me feels like just the right amount of information to *finally* start to figure out this aspect of my body ❤❤❤
Cramps!! I didn't expect my cup to give me unbearable cramps until I got used to it. I also didn't know it would take so long to get used to (about 6 months before I could wear it comfortably, and about 9 months before I really got the hang of it and wore it exclusively my whole cycle). My advice is don't freak out! Try to wear it for as long and often as you can each cycle, while you're at home and can change it out for a pad if/when you get unconfortable. One day you'll realise you've had your cup in for the whole day and felt totally comfortable 😊
I had terrible cramps while wearing a cup that was too long for my cervix. Try changing your cup as it shouldn't be painful. I have a very short meluna now and even now I don't wear a cup for my first day of the period because my cervix is too low and it hurts and I get terrible cramps. When you measure how high is your cervix, remember that it is way lover during your period, especially for at the beginning of it
@@meegy2 yes but sometimes if the urethra is really sensitive or prone to cystitis, the cup it's just not the best option (even a soft one). Not everyone has this problem but they should have at least mention it.
I used to use Softcups, and theyre fucking huge and always pushed against me and made me feel like i had to pee constantly. I used them off an on for about 2 years before i gave up.
Currently trying my first cup after getting rashes after my period regardless if I was using tampons or pads. I'm really digging it so far even if it can be tricky to use rn. Im glad you wonderful people are making these videos they're so much help and the comment section is god send.
I bought the lily cup as my first cup and love it! It did take at least 3 cycles to get the hang of it but now I have no issues. I don’t think I’d go as far as saying it changed my life, but it has made my periods more manageable and I love that all I need is this cute colourful thing (and a few cloth pads), saving a few bucks while also being environmentally conscious!
I've been having periods for just over 30 years and I only recently realized my cervix moves! I realized it on one of my recent periods when I was trying to get a tampon in and my cervix was way low and blocking the tampon from going in correctly. The tampon before that was fine, so i realized it changes during your period. This had happened before, but I never really knew why. One time a few years ago, I shoved the tampon in even though my cervix didn't like that, it was blocking the tampon. After I removed the tampon, and changed it, I had the most excruciating cramps ever! for about 8 hours! it was like being in labor... literally. I had one child witthout any drugs or epidural and it was absolutely 100% comparable! But I was only in hard labor with him for about 4 hours and then I felt great. This video just confirmed the thoughts I had about it. I am wondering if it has to do with clots or how much flow. I have very heavy periods with lots of huge clots and I wonder if the cervix is working hard to expel the clots. And maybe it extends when it does that.
Love the education PACII gives! Like you mentioned in this video, many of us were never taught about menstrual cups or our anatomy to this extent. Like yes, I had sex Ed in school, but the things I have learned now that I have started using a cup, were not taught. I also have never had anyone around me use one before, so there was no one for me to ask questions. I had to experiment and get familiar with my body. I honestly feel more proud of myself & my body now.
I got a blossom cup and it took a bit to figure out which fold technique worked for me. Once I did, it felt nice to go from changing a tampon every hour and worrying about running out to just emptying a cup every two hours that gets re-inserted. I think the thing that made me go "eew" was that I have to stick my finger in there to break the seal and my fingers get bloody. Using toilet paper to clean them off helps to prevent people in public rest rooms from thinking I murdered someone.
Ana Samayoa your middle finger is like a measurement. If you have to push your finger in all the way- high cervix Middle knuckle is an average cervix And if you can touch it without any pushing or feeling around low cervix. Your cervix feels like a soft squishy donut shape. If this doesn’t help- I’d watch more of put a cup in it videos or precious stars pads- they both helped me understand everything I know.. (and I’m also still learning)
And about “telling everyone about it”, you are totally right! I’ve gotten like seven friends of mine to try it out, and I’m currently clarifying any questions and doubts that another friend, that is interested but kind of scared of the cup, has so she can decide whether she’ll give it a go or not.
Thanks for the video. I've been using cup for 5+ years. 1. It's the best thing to travel with while on your period. Especially in the nature. 2. Sometimes I use pads for the first day. It's just too sensitive to have anything inside. And it's completely okay.
This video was very educational! And I'm kinda pleased to state the school I went to had a PPEP talk for the senior girls, this talk went threw all period products and allowed us to ask questions freely, which was a very weird and wild experience
I HIGHLY recommend having 2 cups. The clean one waiting in the wings is super helpful and allows for proper disinfecting and drying of the freshly removed one.
pmailkeey :: Wouldn’t a freshly removed one be covered in blood and should therefore be cleaned or do you not clean yours between uses? Do think gynaecologists would recommend inserting unsterilised objects that will be in your vagina for nearly 12 hours?
Omg I just got one and I was so confused bc they didn’t even teach us basic sex ed in school much less anything more specific like this, it helped so much thank you!!!
Thanks for making a realistic, informative video about menstrual cups and how people's experiences differ from each other! I tried my first about three years ago and the first type I bought magically fit my anatomy after some modifications (yay), but I am far off from the average where my cervix is extremely low, and I basically have to trim the complete end of the cup to make it fit, there is absolutely no space below it for any of your suggestions. :) That said, using it it feels much less like you have a period and I knew from the first time that I used it that after the learning curve I would never even consider going back to any other products. Cheers!
I've read in a fb group (menstrual cups worldwide I think it's called, it was my go-to for help at the beginning, 3+ years ago) trick to make cup bit shorter by turning it inside out (if it's not some odd shaped type) It's a small difference if you already trimmed the stem, so probably not helpful to you, but it helped few times my cervix, usually quite high, decided to make a trip... So I thought I should share....
@@nr0802 thanks for the useful tip! trimming the complete stem actually worked for me, but I just wanted to add it since many reviews I read before starting out was from people with different anatomy than mine.
Okay but one really good thing about this video is that not once did you specify that cups are only for women. Some men have periods too and it's so inclusive just to say "people with vaginas." Well done 👏👏
@@an-enby-panda7840 Hell yeah!!! (Tbh the only reason i didn't put nb in the first comment is because it's 'hard enough' for cis ppl to get their heads around trans men/women in the first place 😅😅
a tip: use cloth pads as a protection, so you feel the most comfortable, as if you wear non-cloth pads, it will create the glasshouse effect even though there's no(t much) blood
I tried the cup the first time yesterday and I have to admit I got the hang of it in the first go. Lucky me I guess? Ofcourse insertion and removal can be tricky but I did my research on both and tried a mix of what everyone suggested!
Just wanted to thank you for this REALLY INFORMATIVE CHANNEL that has changed my life almost 3 years ago!! Love you and I'm glad you have updated the quiz in so many languages!!!
"The Cup Cult!" Surely fitting right in! Thank you so much for all the guidance! A year ago, I didn't know any cup user in person.. And look at me now, I'm a part of the Cup Cult.. Haha! All thanks to you guys! ❤❤
Happy to be part of the cup cult, I just tried my first cup and it's amazing, I couldn't stop talking about, worst part no one knew about it or understood what I was talking about but am still spreading the gospel and can't wait to buy more cups including the disc..
I did not know about the disk.... So frustrating when I have my period and the mood strikes and it's like "no it's already happening now but I have to get up and go clean up first" that kills the mood for me. But the disk sounds awesome, going to have to get one now.
Diana Haines I have had sex with my regular cup several times and it was much like it was explained in this video. A couple times it happened that I just forgot the cup was in and the sex felt no different for me at all and I only realized that the cup was in later on. My husband said that he felt it and it wasn’t uncomfortable at the time but that he was a little raw at the tip for a day or two after. ‘Just the tip’ works very well in a cup situation lol
teamdamien Stephan uhhhh the IUD 🤢 rank fucking thing. It’s great for some people but I curse the stupid piece of plastic. I had it in under local anaesthetic, out 2 weeks later, in under general anaesthetic and out again like a year later!
I just got mine yesterday and I love it! It took me a couple of times to get the hang of it but it’s sooo useful I can’t believe I didn’t get one earlier
Thank you for saying it took courage to switch to the cup. I’m 45 years old and had no one to talk to when I was questioning and ultimately bought my cup. I tried my for the first time yesterday and today I tried to talk to 4 other women about the cup today.. and all 4 conversations were shocking bad. 1st woman thought I was joking… she still doesn’t believe that the cup is a real thing. 2nd and 3rd women were just mortified and # 4 .. she told me “ OH No !! I don’t talk about things like this” … That actually happened today… a few days before 2022… I got those reactions. We need to do better.
The menstrual cup has changed my life. I have PCOS so have extremely heavy periods and it is a game changer. It was also my friend during 2 miscarriages.
jennie glendenning which one do you use? I bought the smaller Tampax cup and I have to change every 2 hours😫I’m looking into the larger one but I’m not sure if that is going to be big enough either.
My mum has used a menstrual cup for as long as I can remember and she introduced them to me last year and they have changed my life ... NO MORE LEAKING
I am 34 and I just bought my 1st diva cup yesterday. I could not take my normal routine and I work 12 hr in a hospital and I was so done. After work I went to my local drugstore. I did my 1st time during sleep. It was so blissful. No waking up from leaks. It was a little challenging to remove but I was able to after a few minutes. I was so surprised to see the amount on my heavy day that was in the cup. Before this experience I was on the verge of going to my doctor because I thought I was bleeding to much for a heavy cycle. Now, I feel like I was just using my product wrong. Now I am not even worried about it there was so little in there over night. Thanks so much for this education! I so happy to toss my tampons out! I feel more healthy inside my self! Every woman should at least give it a try, you might be like me and so very surprised!!!
So... my husband is awesome lol. I just bought my first cup and doing a bunch of research to be ready when my next cycle comes. I'm literally sitting here telling this man all I've learned and he's patiently listening and comprehending as much as a man can what im saying. He's excited for me because he knows how God awful my periods are for me. I'm a lucky woman. Thanks for the video ladies, extremely helpful and thank you to the ladies in the comments with further helpful hints 🖤
Can we just talk about how unfamiliar we are with our vaginas and how frustrating that is and how helpful this video is

I just want to scream!!!!!!!
i feel like they should really teach about it in depth. i mean i genuinely thought i didn't have a vagina when I was struggling to put a tampon on.
They should really teach in school about cups and how your cervix moves. This is very helpful. Thank you so much!
Zandra Docken they didn’t even teach female anatomy in my sex ed class and didn’t even cover periods. And I graduated a month ago
That sucks. We learn about periods and contraception at school in Australia
I completely agree! I had no idea Cups existed until last year and I jumped to buy one immediately.
R u American as my school did

I just finished my first cycle with a cup!! No learning curve. No leaks. No more other products. I'm definitely wanting all my friends to try them. Its truly life changing!!!
Which brand did you use
@@SpitikobyAparnaReddy Are you making sure the cup is open inside? Sometimes it doesn't pop open without a little work..

Agreed 👍🏼
SAME. The first three days of my period are incredibly heavy. Even super absorbency tampons constantly leaked and pads were disgusting. I got tired of my entire nether regions and inner thighs looking like a murder scene occurred. The ability to stay clean with a cup makes me beyond happy.
....
Happy to see that it's back again.
the rubber tassette?
What was it?
How old? Before my grandma used pads made of fabric
How old are you? Do you still have an cycle?
Was it called Instead??
I'm one of the "cup changed my life" people because my period is so heavy the first three days that pads are a horrendously bloody disaster and tampons never open properly. Having said that, I find that it can still require some fiddling around from cycle to cycle to get it to sit comfortably without any leaks. The ability to stay clean and still exercise without feeling "the goosh" is so worth it.
I agree with you on that, I feel the same!
I used the cup for the first time last month and I have to say, I may not be comfortable with it now since I'm still learning, but wearing it gave me the experience of having no rashes from pads and reducing the probability to another infection of which I am very happy about.
I started using them recently, in December. It gets better the second month!

Tampons hold a tiny amount of blood compared to a cup which to me isn't surprising I mean tampons are fricking tiny.
Most of the fluid that tampons absorb is that stuff that your vagina needs not your blood hence why it always seams so chunky ahaha

I do eventually want to try again, though.
At 20-30$ a pop they are a bit too expensive to trail and error myself through.
@@ideljenny I agree, at this point I've given up. I've used the smallest ones on the market, like the ones that are specifically made for sporty teenagers (so they're both more rigid and small). After having tried probably 8-10 different ones I just can't justify wasting more money.
What brand cup do you have for this really low cervix cup? I might need to try that. I have used a cup that isn't perfect for me for like 8 years
Go on eBay you can find them on there cheaper. Diva cup has a model 0 that is smaller than the model 1 if that helps.
@@kawaty woa, I've never heard of those. What brand is it?
It's not there to help you pull it out as much as to help you locate it."
A decent designed one would come out easily just by pulling the stem. Why haven't manufacturers realised that ?
@@millomweb Yoou don't want to be pulling n the stem as it will increase the suction and make it even harder to remove. Might be a way to design a cup with a stem that releases the suction for you though... it's an interesting thought
@@sarahhight5266 That's the point - surely the easier to use the better !
@@sarahhight5266 There's one called the flex cup, and it has a pull string with a finger loop that breaks the suction when you pull it, I think! Could be wrong but it would be great if it does that

I always thought I had a heavy flow. Turns out I don't when I started using a cup. I love it really. At first I hated it, but now I find it amazing😍
sweetcanada17 lmaooooooo
I’ve done that with a tampon before so now I remove it before I poop. Soon I’ll switch to the cup.
Learned to pull it out and reinsert after evacuation haha
Thank you! I was super not sure what to do if mine falls into the toilet
Does it hurt to use the cup with Endo ?? I'm way too scared it'll aggravate the cramps
@@kaylashipley2017 I found the exact same thing! It's awesome, I loved using the cup so much and my flow ended up halving in volume over 3 years?! I don't know if it was down to the cup, but I've never turned back
i’m sorry i just saw this but yes i have been using for 3 cycles now and when i used tampons i was constantly bleeding thru and on my heaviest days i can go 2-3 hours without changing it whereas a super plus tampon was 45 mins. i swear it decreased my flow or just makes it seem like less!
Love how you girls are straight up with the facts. That’s all we ask for at the end of the day are facts & info that will help all women that decide to use a cup. I have been using a cup for 4+ months & wish I had of been using it years ago.
I feel safe here
So glad you mentioned the cervix moving!!! I was worried that I was alone and that I had a tiny coochie but I feel relieved that it's a normal thing!
Shoot. I just had no idea that it moved! (Shows how well I pay attention)
Same here
Same! My organicup is now completely stemless because it used to hurt

When I saw that tomato soup I was pretty confused
I love tomato soup, it looked delicious
But what it represented..
An Evil Stripper period blood honey
period blood is a LOT darker than tomato soup (at least in my experience)
Texture of the period blood
No kidding I once knew a woman who baked cookies with her menstrual blood in them. I did not eat one
Im stuck at insertion! Help!
Agreed! I researched extensively before I switched and had no problem. You can feel when it's not inserted correctly.
@@afreenasif681 try practicing in the shower off of your period.

The first time I used mine I had a similar situation and didn’t think about used my pelvic floor muscles 😂 now I’m used to it I can use em but a hot bath always helps me :-)
How did you push it out? I tried that and it didn’t move, I would pull and it would go right back up.
@@fuzzywuzzythebackyardigans2283 I had to get a good grip and not let go, try working from side to side as you pull it down, it'll help ease the suction.
Maybe you need a longer cup because you might have a higher cervix

A menstrual cup is the best thing ever invented. I do giveaways every month and always buy one to put in my giveaway basket. Yes, its an expense at first but savings in the long run. I love that you guys are being informative. Not to mention how much it saves from the environmental waste per year from just menstrual products.
That's so awesome! And thank you
Sooo I just bought my first cup. I’ve thought about it a lot but your channel helped v v much
Allie Noble check out their Facebook group Putacupunit. It is the most supportive bunch of menstruators out there.
Hey me too!!
I am so mad at myself that I thought the diva cup was so gross and didn't start using it a long time ago. I just started using it last month. I was lucky enough to get it right on the 1st try & now I'm hooked. I'll never use or buy another tampon again.
I grew up in a household where tampons were considered a little unhealthy and invasive, so when I tried the cup at first I was really scared (ie, "omg what if it gets stuck" or "what if I injure myself trying to put it in")
tips that helped me:
-cut your fingernails lol (i have scratched the inside of myself and it hurt like a mf)
-use water based lube if you have a harder time pushing it in
-bear down like you're taking a dump to "push" it out so you can grab it when taking it out
-put a 12 hour timer on your phone if your flow is heavier (so you don't have to wrack your brain for how long you've had it in if you forgot what time you inserted)

My biggest struggle was/is learning how to remove the cup. It's never been about "losing" it, but I struggle with getting it to un-suction.
Gently slide a finger (index/middle finger) up the side of the cup and press it away from the vaginal wall. Then hold it between thumb and index and twist it out. Let me know if this works!
I just got my first cup and I'm obsessed. You really do start telling everyone how awesome it is 😂

Switching to a cup taught me so many things about downstairs that school didn’t teach me. I have gained the wisdom 😌
Switch brands ..... It shouldn't give you cramps ...
I had terrible cramps while wearing a cup that was too long for my cervix. Try changing your cup as it shouldn't be painful. I have a very short meluna now and even now I don't wear a cup for my first day of the period because my cervix is too low and it hurts and I get terrible cramps. When you measure how high is your cervix, remember that it is way lover during your period, especially for at the beginning of it
Interesting mine stopped with cups
They should not cramp that much. Might need a smaller size to be more comfterble.
Uh, you probably got cramps because you had a period. Cups aren't going anywhere near the place where the cramps happen...
you should mention that because of the pressure, it can cause urinary problems.

Definitely measure while on period I bought one from the non period measurement- turns out I have a low cervix while on my period.. 😑
Linnie Murdoch how do you know if you do? Idk how to figure that out
@@analuciasamayoa8661 honestly, as weird as it sounds, just stick your (cleaned) finger in and you can feel it.
Ana Samayoa your middle finger is like a measurement. If you have to push your finger in all the way- high cervix
Middle knuckle is an average cervix
And if you can touch it without any pushing or feeling around low cervix.
Your cervix feels like a soft squishy donut shape.
If this doesn’t help- I’d watch more of put a cup in it videos or precious stars pads- they both helped me understand everything I know.. (and I’m also still learning)
@@linniemurdoch8657 is having a low cervix bad?
No, all are safe and healthy. It’s key to deciding which cup, position and type work best for you. That’s all.
This video is what I’ve been waiting for! I haven’t made the switch and this helps a lot ❤️
Freshly removed one can be used again immediately without sterilising.
pmailkeey :: Wouldn’t a freshly removed one be covered in blood and should therefore be cleaned or do you not clean yours between uses? Do think gynaecologists would recommend inserting unsterilised objects that will be in your vagina for nearly 12 hours?
@@kimthejunglist Rinsing in cold water, then maybe warm/hot is fine - and I agree with that.
Being a bloke, I don't have any.
pmailkeey :: If you don’t use a cup, what makes you qualified to tell women what is appropriate to put in their vaginas?
@@kimthejunglist I'm not sure... my husband's penis isn't sterilized.
I started using one yesterday and got it right on my first try!
Bravo!
Cheers!
I've read in a fb group (menstrual cups worldwide I think it's called, it was my go-to for help at the beginning, 3+ years ago)
trick to make cup bit shorter by turning it inside out (if it's not some odd shaped type)
It's a small difference if you already trimmed the stem, so probably not helpful to you, but it helped few times my cervix, usually quite high, decided to make a trip...
Men have periods??!
@@bandbporter Some men do yes. Some transgender men still have periods and it's a totally normal thing and shouldn't be taboo :)
Oh, I get what you were saying: Some people with female bodies [many, I’m sure], who identify as male, still get their periods.
Also some nonbinary people!
Didn’t know about a reusable disc. I’ve been using Instead disc for years. Thanks
That Dr. Who clip is EVERYTHING. #biggerontheinside
What do you mean "new weird hobby" I only have 7 cups! XD
😂
Cups literally changed my life, it is a learning curve though !! Don’t give up
Having sex with a cup in?
No thanks.
Earn those red wings guys.
I didn't even like having sex with nuva ring I can feel my iud. I've always had cervix issues
teamdamien Stephan uhhhh the IUD 🤢 rank fucking thing. It’s great for some people but I curse the stupid piece of plastic.
I had it in under local anaesthetic, out 2 weeks later, in under general anaesthetic and out again like a year later!
Exactly lol
@@bstmeg5237 okay...I'm stupid. What is a lud?
A real sailor crosses the Red Sea
I’m glad you guys are back and producing more videos :)
I just got mine yesterday and I love it! It took me a couple of times to get the hang of it but it’s sooo useful I can’t believe I didn’t get one earlier
I just ordered two cups. After seeing this video im very excited and optimistic. Fingers crossed!
Hello a year later! How has it been working for you? :)
I'm here for, "just the tip" game. Well done, ladies. 👏🏼💖
I don’t talk about things like this”
… That actually happened today… a few days before 2022… I got those reactions.
@@danyelle87 hey. I use the Lily Cup and the Caring Panda cup. Good luck.
jennie glendenning thank you!
