Sound reasoning Keith. Perhaps in course of time you will be able to free up enough cash to buy another restoration project with which to delight and educate us all. Best wishes.
Keith that must have been a hard choice but I get you, if needs must then it makes perfect sense. The new owner will enjoy Project Sprout. Looking forward to the working you have ahead on getting the door sorted plus Racing Green.
Hiya Keith-what a shame Sprout is going. Watching the build and the great care you took on him was great to watch. Whoever has bought Sprout is very lucky. Anyway, looks like you'll soon have another green mint Mini with RG! Keep well.
I can feel for you. Like you I fixed my mortgage 5 years ago and next month it expires, the new rate really hurts. Am seriously considering having to sell my car, and going back to just driving the works van. Hopefully one day you'll get to buy sprout back.
It's never easy mate, especially when I know it's a really good car and I'll struggle to buy another MPI in a similar condition. With hindsight, I probably shouldn't have bought the RG. The paint job is still a work of art! Probably your best paint job to date (I've not seen the Cooper S in paint yet). Just got to not F up the door now LOL.
Fair play to you mentioning the unmentionable C.O.L. Crisis. A high percentage of older students, the hard working public and pensioners are all going through it and having to make their circumstances fit tbe new reality. Must make you cross that mainly bad government has taken away the fruits of your hard work and something you enjoy 😤 Family finances have to come first so you’re making all the right decisions
Feels like I've worked my a*se off for the last few years, not only at work but also in my hobby only to be back to square one. I'm lucky enough to have some savings and investments to help me out. I really feel for the poor people that were already struggling.
I think it probably goes back around 40yrs! It was in my nans living room as a kid and I loved it. I remember buying Airfix kits of the Lanc. My nan passed away a while ago now but I remember the only thing I wanted was the Lancaster picture..... I should probably look after it a bit better than being in the garage but the Mrs wouldn't have the pic in the house.
Keith. Will you be covering the new door install? I wondered what the fit of these Heritage doors were like. Even better, as the fit around the door aperture appears to change between years, I have a '89 Flame same year as the green one you have. It would be interesting to see if the door fits both '89 and '96 car. That would be really helpful.
Keith, Sorry to see Project Sprout go, but completely understand the circumstances. The lucky subscriber is blessed to get this lovely Mini. All the best with the sale and wish you the best. Also, is there an email address I can reach you on? Want to get in touch with you about a 1996 Mini Cooper that I own and an overheating issue I'm having with what is otherwise a mint (unrestored) car!
As an ex-Londoner who had 3 classic Minis including a Cooper RSP. It makes me mad and sad you are having to sell because of the ULEZ. I’d seriously have different sets of fake plates. I’d have to keep a 40+ year old Mini as a daily driver. Or even ‘ring’ a newer mini to use it! I hate Khan. Also that the London-Brighton run has ended due costs and ULEZ issues. 😡
Ridiculous isn't it. I have the Bini which is £20pa roadtax as it's low CO2 and a Fiesta that is £0pa roadtax for the same reason but both are only Euro 4 so not exempt, but I can buy a 4.0L V8 Range Rover that is exempt. Madness!
Hi Les, drop me an e-mail millermilla@sky.com and let me know what you are after. The guy that is buying Sprout asked me about 7-months ago and I've been on the lookout ever since. I'm always looking out for Minis so I may be able to help out.
@@classicminiworkshop ahh! Biggest feed of shite that ULEZ. Doesn’t seem to effect anyone but the lower income families. Heard they want to expand it to all English cities! Glad I’m in Northern Ireland 😂
@alankane8686 I've not watched yet but I reckon it's the green one under the cover. I'd buy it along with a Triumph Rocket GT I have my eye on but I just don't have the room due to so many subframe builds I'm doing!
The mortgage timing for you is really bad and i bet you've spent hours doing different mortgage providers come up with basically the same ending. Sprout will go to a good owner and look after it till it comes back!
I had a 5-year fixed and a government Help to Buy, so it's a double whammy! Luckily I had been keeping some savings back and always knew the Mini fleet was there as a last resort.
Sorry to hear you are having to sell Sprout after all your hard work but I guess you are just another victim of our government's failure to control inflation and Mr Khan's over-zealous attempts to improve air quality. However I imagine this difficult period with interest rates will pass and you will be back in the market for another Mini. I would recommend something a bit older from a period when BL used better steel and if it's 40+ you can stop paying road tax, get an MOT when when/if you want one and make occasional trips into ULEZ zones without paying more tax.
Sad but sensible, maybe next time consider raffling a car off. Other TH-camrs are doing this and making £10k+ above the value of the car… enough to quit day jobs! Your current projects wouldn’t make it viable for you to retire, but £10k extra income a year (assuming one project a year) would be a fair return for your hard work and your great content… plus add some motivation to keep going.
The car raffles are an interesting business model. I know a few of the cars that have been raffled as the tickets are worth way more than the car but who complains when you've only paid £5.99 for a ticket eh!
I didn't actually realize I had owned it so long, 4 years!
That's sad Keith, but understandable. It sounds like it's going to a good home though.
What a nice chap !

Sad day and also a lesson in reality. Lucky guy getting Sprout! Take care & good luck on your journey into Croydon each day. Take care,
Thanks 👍
Somebody lucky is going to get it, wish it was me.

Thanks mate
Sad to see it go, but needs must. I'm still considering selling a couple of mine but finding it hard to start advertising them.

@classicminiworkshop Good news about being British is you can knock us down but we'll just keep getting back up again 😄. Keep fighting the fight 💪
Nice Lancaster bomber photo in your garage !

The good old climate con! get a 70's mini they are Ulez exempt?

Wouldn’t sprout be exempt from ULEZ 👀
Unfortunately not, it would need to be 40+ years old

Difficult times at the moment, I was contemplating selling my cooper conversion mini thirty but I know I’ll regret it, so gotta hang in there !
Keep it you can mate, it would be good to get a few Cooper conversions together when the RG is finished
Did i hear you say "gloss black"? Not mat black?
Hell yeah, got to have a bit of shine
You couldn’t ask to buy a better example.
565£ ??? Thats more then i paid for my 1970 Morris Mini 1275 GT over here in Norway.
Wow, what a bargain!
@@classicminiworkshop I know, and it have 2 solid doors.
What a Mini can't you restore Racing Green and sell that I would love either make ❤
I'll give an update on the RG some time soon but it owes me way more than it will be worth. I've spent too much on it already
2nd lol😅
To leave a message or 1st in line to Buy, 😂😂

Why not just replace her with a tax exempt Mini?
ULEZ exempt then.
While I love Classic Mini's I don't think it would be very practical as a daily car to/from work in all weathers etc,
