I kept the wiring loom on my 92 SPi but it was in far better condition than yours appears to be. The only trouble I had subsequently was with a couple of the in-line fuse holders which became unreliable due to corrosion and brittle plastic so I should have replaced them whilst the loom was being cleaned up. I would put your old loom in the bin and find something better to do on a rainy winter's day.
New loom would be the hassle free option but it depends on funds!! My project is draining my wallet in panels!! 🤣 So much work to do...so little knowledge!! your channel certainly help me with my channel project car haha ✌✌
Hi Keith, No!...Not that predictable, you hide it So well 😉, looking forward to the rest of this build. As ever, you are an inspiration to us (+many others in the Mini community) and we have finally decided to embark on the rebuild/re-commissioning of our beloved Mini 30
Wise move refitting the rack Keith - from lots of experience those aftermarket racks don't last 5 minutes, (the cost of them tells you all you need to know about the quality of them!). You could do a perfectly acceptable repairs on that loom and make it serviceable it's only your time and some new fuse holders, terminals and wiring - lot of money for a new loom!, but understand your reasoning.
Have you thought of fitting maintenance free ball joints, I would have if I’d known about them when I rebuilt my hubs. Wise call on the loom. Don’t feel you have to do every week, don’t make it a chore, remember we’re, the viewers, are busier too. 👍
Agree with you about the worsened quality of replacement rubber parts and would also add that plated parts are also not up to the standard of older ones. The cadmium plating doesn't last long at all. I hope that the new loom will be good.
The genuine track rod end from MS are actually made by FAI which is a popular aftermarket parts company but for the life of me i cant find them anywhere for sale except Mini spares and a few other mjni parts companies.
As for the rubber cones by M-Parts. Their website was for me un-useable and out dated but they i think they have had a new director start and the website as been given a new lease of life. I can now order from there. Their site is still under construction but improving as time goes on. They do mainly Moke stuff but its worth a look at!!
Word of warning for anyone buying a new steering rack from MS. There racks dont come with lock nuts for the track rod ends. Come on Mini Spares, those nuts are pence, 19p each from you guys. Mini Spares drive me to distraction with some of the stupid stuff they dont supply on a complete unit. Just look at ball joints and the lack of shims and grease nipples, again pence!
New loom for sure, I would probably ask David Wilson to create a custom loom with any additional wiring you might need 😆
Definitely a new loom. I'd consider spraying the inside before you put the pedal box and loom in. 🙂
Excellent episode. I'm looking forward to new short videos..
Think you've helped me make my mind up on a new loom too! Make during the loom detailed, will need it soon!
After all the work you have done Keith good idea new loom great video
Thanks for the video! And safe travels!
Definitely better changing the loom, one of the many jobs mine needs, time, space and money being the only obstacles! Lol
Bought a 2nd hand loom off ebay, bit manky so i whacked it in the dishwasher with the washer bottle and fan, cleaned up a treat!😊
I didn't think if the dishwasher!

Good work Keith. Good choice as well pal. Get a new loom in it. Keep the old one for the cold winter nights in front of the fire to repair it. 👍💪
I’m glad you’re swapping the loom out. I’d not even consider keeping the old one once it was out. Especially as the Racing Green is a keeper.
Hi Keith, i think we All knew the answer to the question Before the video started 😂 100% New loom !!
LOL am I that predictable

How about making your own loom from scratch? That would be a unique video!

They have had some changes there. I find it best to speak to Lauren
New loom is the best way forward, old wiring will fail you or worse!
