    Thank you so much for your help! I asked BMW and they said 600USD change oil and reset. No thank you. Changed oil myself and now finally no more service light.

      Wow 600?? That is the highest price I have ever heard of for an oil service on a BMW.
      Good job doing the oil change yourself. I have other videos on how to change the filters and brakes as well.

    A few questions: I am leasing and my complimentary maintenance period for my g20 is over. The dealer ran my key and said I need cabin air filter, engine air filter, and vehicle check for $700 (hell no). I will do all of this myself before turning the car in. If I reset the vehicle check service light like this, will they be able to tell I did it myself? I don’t want to get in trouble (there is a $750 fine for skipped maintenance on a lease).
    Also after I change the cabin and engine air filters do I need to do a reset? There is no service light for those but the dealer said they need to be changed when they ran the key.

      @friendlymechanic9778  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They won’t be able to tell that you reset the light yourself. Although, they may ask where you got the service done and ask for proof.
      This next part may be confusing so I do apologize and I will put it as simply as possible.
      There is no maintenance light for engine air filter or cabin air filter. They are attached to the engine oil service which is a CBS(condition based service). The CBS calculates the engine oil service with time mileage and how the car is driven, thus condition based.
      There is a counter the computer keeps track of. Every time the oil light gets reset it adds a counter. If your turning in the lease and it needs a cabin air filter, vehicle check and an oil service you should be at around 40,000 miles, 48months of the vehicle production date or on your 4th due oil change. Which ever comes first.
      So resetting the oil service will “reset” the cabin air filter and engine air filter. If they ask for proof for these services a receipt for the parts is proof enough.
      There is no penalty for replacing filters with aftermarket parts either. I would highly recommend using a good quality engine oil filter. I wouldn’t go too cheap on that.
      Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

      Thank you very much. I have a few more questions.
      After resetting the vehicle check service light, do I need to update the key fob so it doesn’t show up next time the dealer runs the key or am I good? I looked up some videos of syncing the service data on the key fob by holding it to the steering column but it didn’t seem to work for me. I’m wondering if it’s necessary or not.
      Also, I have a rear brake pad service light (3000 miles). Do I have to replace the sensor if I change the rear brake pads out now or could I replace the pads then clear the sensor without replacing it?
      Lease is up in 4 months and unfortunately will have to change the brake pads before then so might as well do it so now and enjoy the new brakes. Bought OEM pads but no new sensor.

      @friendlymechanic9778  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a way to update the key however it is quite complicated. The key data will automatically update while driving the car.
      For the rear brake pads I would inspect the brake pads visually and see if they really need to be replaced. Although it is saying within 3000 miles it is not always accurate. It may be possible you still have plenty of brake pad material left. If you do replace them it is best to replace the sensor. The car may not allow you to reset the service light if it is not replaced. Be sure to inspect the inner brake pads as well. The sensor is located at the rear right inner brake pad.

    Does this procedure serve to reset the "Fault recognized in the vehicle" message in Check Control?

      @@friendlymechanic9778 My BMW rested its rear bumper against a wall. Visually, it didn't do anything, no scratches or dents. However, the check controls message "Fault recognized in the vehicle" kept appearing on the screen. How can I get rid of this message?

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There may have been damage done to a PDC sensor. It could have been pushed in or damaged on the face of the sensor. You would need to scan the car and see which codes are stored. Unfortunately there is no way to disable the warning message. It will come on every time.

      Close all the doors including the hood.
      Start over with everything off and press start stop button 3 times to enter diagnostic mode. Then make sure all the messages are cleared.
      Also do you am have any other warning messages on the dash?

    I've tried this on my 2021 G20, can't get past the very first stage. Pressing Start/Stop 3 times just turns off the engine, or if done with engine off nothing happens. Confused.

      There is still a way to do it. But first clear the message with the BC button and using a stop watch count how many seconds it takes for the message to display again.

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once you have that number you’re just going to keep that number in mind as your counting.
      So you’re going to enter diagnostic mode by pressing the start stop button three times.
      Make sure all doors are closed including trunk and hood.
      Clear all warning messages until you only see total miles and trip miles. Immediately press and hold the start stop button and start counting. Keep in mind when the message will pop up and keep holding and keep counting. Once you get to 12 seconds on your stop watch.
      Let go of the BC button
      Press the BC button once to clear the warning message and check if you see reset oil light.
      If you do then hold the BC button again for an additional 12 seconds. The warning message will pop again keep pressing and holding until 12 seconds and then let go. It should reset.
