Benji, if there was an award for the most adorable, wholesome TH-camr, you would win it hands down! I'm praying for more sponsorships from your favorite stores and pot manufacturers. Love you and Theo and your vids!!! 🥰
"Just know that pests are totally natural and it's just part of owning house plants. Embrace the journey...." Thank you, Benji. I really needed to hear that.
An AMAZING product for killing fungus gnat larvae is “Mosquito Bits”. It’s natural, non toxic and has to be given regularly (every couple of weeks) but works sooooooo well.
Thank you for taking the fear out of treating the pest problem. As you said pests are part of the plant journey and once we accept that it becomes much more tolerable.
This is such a great video!! When I first got into bringing plants into my space I didn’t have any pest for about a year or so but the longer I have plants and the more I get I started fighting for my life 😭 against fungus gnats and spider mites. I was a neem oil kind of girl and i over did it and BURNED my plants 🥲 so yea I’m really glad you gave these tips and tricks because I didn’t know about the photosensitive. I just cooked my plants 😅😅
I've had houseplants for 5 years now and luckily I haven't had to deal with a lot of pests. I did get spider mites on my calathea a couple of years ago and I was so scared and disgusted that I ran out with it and swung it to the trash bin. Ever since that i've been super scared and paranoid of pests. I dunno your way of calmly explaining and showing how to do it kind of put my mind at ease. Now I know what to do and maybe it's not that serious😂😂 (i was definitely traumatized by the spider mites) Thanks Benji ✨✨
I had a devastating thrip infestation on mainly my Monsters Deliciosas this past fall and I tried everything but ended up having to resort to the systemic granules and they worked! I try to use them as a last resort just because it's a systemic and freaks me out, haha. But also because pests can become tolerant of it after constant exposure. It has worked for me though the one time I needed to use them and I'm forever grateful! For spidermites, I have a 70% alcohol spray bottle I found at either Walgreens or Walmart but I use it to just spray all over any plant that has spidermites like alocasia. I did find that some plants in the calathea family are very sensitive to alcohol like the white fusion, triostar, and beauty star so alcohol wipes are a better alternative at spot treatment! Just what I do. Thank you, Benji!! I always look forward to your videos!! 😊🌿
Hi im curious, what about systemic pesticides freak you out? Im new to the houseplant game so i dont really know what the risks are with different pesticides
@@AsianRainbows Hey! 👋 For me, it just freaks me out because I have to make sure I wear gloves when using it so that it doesn't come in contact with my skin. I just have to be aware of what I touch, like a doorknob, or something someone else could touch and then touch their mouth or eye or what have you. I also have two doggos so I gotta make sure the plants are out of reach so they don't either eat the treated plant that was initially pet friendly (Maranta, etc) or having them lick the soil because one of them is a Basset Hound and will eat everything, hahaha. I guess it doesn't freak me out, I just have to be really aware of my actions when using systemic granules. I hope that all makes sense, haha.
please don't use systemic insecticide for fungus gnats... buy beneficial nematodes or diatomaceous earth. nuking your substrate with harsh chemicals is going to backfire.
I'm dealing with my first pest outbreak, aside from finding a mealie bug here and there on my hoyas.. I found adult thrips recently on my Hoya pubilcalyx. 😱😭 ALL of my houseplants are together, so I have to treat them all, as they are suddenly rapidly declining. I have gone years with no issues. My calathea, stromanthe.. my delicate plants have all been so happy, lush, gorgeous... Now this! I appreciate your soothing voice as much as the good information. It really helps so much. I went to a plant nursery yesterday, talked to an expert. He told me to use the bonide granules, along with Neem oil spray, plus recommended I dust lightly with the diatomaceous earth I have already. I'm very chemically sensitive, and terrified of this process! I don't have gloves or disposable spoons, cups. The warnings on that stuff are very strong and soooo scary!! May be fatal if it comes in contact with skin. Doesn't wash off 💀 I carefully sprinkled it in using a plastic fork to mix it in with the soil last night. I got all but 2 plants; one being my Hoya obavata..I can't see the soil, so am having difficulty, plus I threw the fork away, thinking I was done. Ugh 😂 The problems that come with thrips are mighty and I just found them over the weekend. For those of us who are stressed so much, your personality is like medicine. I'm subscribing. Thank you.
Bonide is the best. I use that and have no issues except an occasional spider mite. They hate peppermint oil. If I see webs I spray peppermint oil water and they come running out. Instant death. 😂All spiders hate peppermint oil. I spray my outdoor areas with peppermint water too to control the insane amount of garden spiders spinning their webs at night in SoCal. Nice informative video! 👏🏼
I loventhis channel. This is usually one of my go to channels when i want to learn about plant stuff. Benji has a really nice voice and its very relaxing to listen to plant care after a hard school day.
Benji! You have solved my spray bottle dilemma! I've been needing one for a year, but haven't bought one because they're so ugly! Finally, a pretty spray bottle ❤ Thanks
Thank you so much for making this video! All your plants always look so healthy and perfect. I had always wondered how you dealt with pest issues. I avoid all calathea because they are spider mite magnets. And, I didn’t want to spend a fortune trying and filling my home with a ton of different pesticides.
Hi Benji! Such a timely video. I use Neem oil but had pests attacking my new growth on my draecena. Neem just didn't cut it and cinnamon didn't help either. I finally conquered it with 1/3 rubbing alcohol and 2/3 water in a spray bottle. I had to spray everyday as the new growth opened up but it worked and my top growth isn't chewed up and looks great.
Hi- I opened a plant (bird of paradise)when I got it and the wet soil was full of centipedes or millipedes and some squirmy worm things, maybe pot worms or fungus gnat larvae, some kind of round ball eggs. I washed the soil all off and am hoping for the best. I was just too grossed out because if they crawled out of the plant into my apt I wouldn’t be able to sleep! Maybe you have tips on what to do with these things. The worm things wouldn’t die when I doused them in rubbing alcohol. Or maybe there is a calm mindset you can model for me so I’m not overcome with anxiety about creepy crawlers ❤😊
Hi Benji, i just looked up Systemic granuels and it contains Bonide (with a warning sign - May cause cancer) it has put me off ordering it, just wanted to give you the heads up! 🙏🏽🌿💜🌿
Bonide is the brand name. The houseplant systemic contains the active ingredient Imadocloprid. It’s not harmful as long as you wear gloves and wash your hands after use.
I use Abamectin for spider mites. It also controls thrips, whiteflies, and aphids. It kills on contact and works as a preventative. You just have to treat the plants outside and let them sit and dry for several hours before bringing them back in.
By far the most useful video I’ve found on systemic granules and azamax. Very informative, but concise. Also loved the demonstration and to see your exact process. Thanks!!
Luckily I already bought the systemic granules and that spray bottle bc I always buy your Recs LOL they have both worked well for me and like you said the systemic granules are the only thing that actually works
seriously! you are like the mr. rogers of all the planty youtoobers, your sweet, calm demeanor and wisdom is sooo appreciated ! This is the first and only video on pest control that didn’t leave me feeling frantic, anxious and overwhelmed by my (current) pest journey. On the contrary, I feel well informed and ready to handle the situation in a calm, rational, and methodical manner. Thank you Benji! 😊🪴
This video is super helpful. Very interested in trying the systemic granules. I have only ever dealt with thrips and surprisingly diluted dish soap worked like magic.
Thank you for sharing Benji. I've been trying to get rid of spider mites for quite some time now, it's been a frustrationg process. Just ordered that sprayer and the AzaMax hopefully it will make the journey easier :)
fungus gnats are the bane of my apartment, my plants, and my existence and i could go on about my tried methods to get rid of them but it all boils down to catching them early and not letting them take over before you start treating them, and when you do catch them invading your plants space early on, a good spritz of 1:1 water/hydrogen peroxide onto the top soil and stick a sticky gnat trap in the soil and you’re pretty much good to go
so good! my roommates and i just got done tackling a fungus gnat problem, and this was really helpful for future reference! thank you for the recommendations and the tips!
I'm going to have to get those products! This is my first time dealing with a spidermite infestation, and all of my plants were in VERY close proximity. About 6 were infested and I sprayed with soapy + vinegar water, it seemed to have helped but I think what you have would work a lot better :o TY!!
Very good video benji I had to destroyed my Hoya tricolour plant because of that white bugs. Tried many times to control but no luck. Once you got it very difficult to rid off.
Any alternative for the systemic granules for people in (West-)Europe? I've been searching for something alike but couldn't really find anything. Really enjoying all your content by the way! 😊
Those are some of my favorite products too, but I've been using beneficial bugs lately and it has been working well for me. ESPECIALLY for spider mites. I had an explosion, released 2500 mites in my tent.. not a bad mite to be seen
Thank you for the tips! Mealybug is my worst enemy! I use neem oil alot, but I also get so nervous that I hurt the plant when spraying it down. Thanks for making this video!
ever use leca to prevent fungus gnats? i’ve seen people do it, i’m gonna try putting leca over the soil as an attempt to fix them. they also look more decorative lol
Benji, thank you for warning people against using systemic pesticides outdoors. They harm much more than just pollinators. They topple entire native insect communities, which in turn cause food shortages for baby birds. Think of caterpillars as the “milk” that nestlings require for proper growth and weight gain. People generally use pesticides in a very cavalier way, and it has consequences.
hello, I recently started watching your videos and I love them. I want to know how do your plants inside the house get sunlight? do you use grow lights? I'm not sure if you have already made video about this. please let me know, thank you
Howdy Benji! Your plant care content is AMMMM-azing! I actually bought the black pressured spray bottle you use. I have yet to use Neem Oil or any other product on my plants since pest outbreaks was minimal when I had a small collection of green gurrls. Plus, I keep couple plants outdoors in spring/summer for pest control too. My collection is larger now and it would be super helpful to know if you re-use the black pump spray after AzaMax application? Or do you have 2 to keep from residual application from getting into non-infected plants? I prefer to keep 1 pressurized bottle on hand. How long would the AzaMax stay present in the plant? I have plants that go back outside in the spring and wondering if bees will be harmed if they visit the flowers in the spring.
Since it’s an avocado plant, wouldn’t the granules that you used harm humans since we consume the “fruit” of the plant? Or does it only hurt pollinators?
Can only speak for a different systemic pesticide that I use (but I assume it's similar for all of them), on the package it says how long you need to wait after treating until you can consume the fruit/veggies again, for mine it's a week after treatment.
Im having the most annoying fungus gnat infestation. I put fly paper right next to the infected plant and the amount that collected there is appalling. Ill try that systemic, the my neem oil soray doesnt seem to kill them off 100%
Been having an issue with Fungus Gnats for awhile, thought I had checked all my new plants well but turns out one of the Crotons has mealy bugs, absolutely losing my shit lmao
does it work against fungal infections too? i live in an hot and humid country (70%-80% humidity) and fungal infections seems frequent in the rain season. What do you do?
Benji, if there was an award for the most adorable, wholesome TH-camr, you would win it hands down! I'm praying for more sponsorships from your favorite stores and pot manufacturers. Love you and Theo and your vids!!! 🥰
I agree🥰
He's awesome. 💗
Agreed! I play him at the office and now everyone wants plants! His voice is so soothing. Thank you Benji!

My collection is currently having a fungus gnat issue I'm dealing with, but if my method fails I'mma get that systemic!
Bottom water and let the top dry out, worked for me
Agree that bottom watering works. I also use water that has been soaked in mosquito bits when I do it.

can you used this method to prevent the infestation?
I am so gland that u posted a new video after 11 days ,I was waiting for ur video so eagerly 😅.I enjoy ur video a lot 🙃

WOW YOUR BIG CREATOR IM YOUR FAN SINCE YOUVE STARTED 12K SUBS AND NOW WOW YOUR A AMAZING SIMPLE CREATOR NOW :)

IVe been going to your channel everyday waiting for a new video I am so excited
Oh thank you for sharing this video! I have gnats that are out of control in my house. Definitely will be buying the granules.

great video benji!! been dealing with flies on my plant and now there's spiders >:[ the struggle never ends
I'm still battling thrips. It's been a month battle so far.. I'm gunna try the systemic. I have no other options aha thnx Benji
Ty! Been fighting a mealy bug infestation on my Monstera for a month now >:0 they just keep coming back. I'll try these out!
Hi Benji, please try a spinosad product. Its very effectice. Was a gamechanger for me. Look it up, its Safe to use and nontoxic for big animals
Needed this & it was so informative! Thanks so much!!
Really amazing and informative video! You need to be careful with systemic though, it can harm bees or other bugs as well.
I love your plants benji
hello, I recently started watching your videos and I love them. I want to know how do your plants inside the house get sunlight? do you use grow lights? I'm not sure if you have already made video about this. please let me know, thank you
Benji this is a great video 👍
Howdy Benji! Your plant care content is AMMMM-azing! I actually bought the black pressured spray bottle you use. I have yet to use Neem Oil or any other product on my plants since pest outbreaks was minimal when I had a small collection of green gurrls. Plus, I keep couple plants outdoors in spring/summer for pest control too. My collection is larger now and it would be super helpful to know if you re-use the black pump spray after AzaMax application? Or do you have 2 to keep from residual application from getting into non-infected plants? I prefer to keep 1 pressurized bottle on hand. Could I just wash the basin of spray bottle with soapy water for non-pest control use? There are a couple new things I did learn from this video that I did not know from watching a gazillion other plant vlogger content so muchas gracias!
Thank u so much benji!!🫶🌱
your island concept is prob what is goin to save my plants. if ound a freaking thrip earlier fml
Thank you Benji for all you do ,your really appreciated 🍀☘️🍀☘️🍀I hope your partner feels better.🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕(I'm sorry I forgot his name) So long Benji💛💖💛💖💛💖
Excellent video, thank you!
Can you please help me with my Boat orchid ??? How to take care of it . It isn't doing very well !😢😭
But the video was as good as always and your avocado is growing up so fast .💜
That bookcase 😍
Spider mites are so easy to eliminate. They hate moisture. So if you just wash the leaves, they’ll die. Thrips though are another level.
thank you kind sir 😌
Hi Benji! Thanks for such an informative video. I have been dealing with spider mites and azamax def seems to be working. Someone said its not a great idea to use systemic with spider mites as it actually makes things worse, but I saw you use both in this video. Would you say it is safe and to always do this process?
So sweet to shout out Chris and his help! 🥹 (great job doing this video on your own btw 🙌🏽)
Oh been missing YOU
In canada we are very limited in what pesticides we can buy, so most systemic pesticides aren’t available. I guess i’ll have to stick to neem oil.
Thanks for an in-depth video on pest treatments. Do you refresh the systemic granules (ie add more) every 8 weeks or so to your plant collection as a preventative measure for pests or only use them to treat pests when they’re present? TIA 😊
Hey! Awesome videos, where did you get that shade cloth for your outdoor plants?
Really needed this video!! Though do you happen to any recommendations/alternatives for the bonide systemic? It's sadly banned in my state :(
How long would the AzaMax stay present in the plant? I have plants that go back outside in the spring and wondering if bees will be harmed if they visit the flowers in the spring.
thank you for this video, Benji! i was wondering, could you also sell platycerium ridleyi's spores? in Europe there aren't any affordable ones 😩
Is it true that the systemic granules could pose a risk to pets if they decide to nibble on the leaves? That’s my only concern with those 🥺
That's brilliant ⚘
hey Benji can you teach me how to grow edible herbs like parsley and basil? my parlsey plant only has very small leaves for some reason...

Ill try that systemic, the my neem oil soray doesnt seem to kill them off 100%
Are your pesticide recommendations safe for carnivorous plants?
Please can you do a video on thrips X
Been having an issue with Fungus Gnats for awhile, thought I had checked all my new plants well but turns out one of the Crotons has mealy bugs, absolutely losing my shit lmao
does it work against fungal infections too? i live in an hot and humid country (70%-80% humidity) and fungal infections seems frequent in the rain season. What do you do?
Where did you get that your gorgeous green couch?! im green w envy! hehee
It looks like Azamax is not sold on Amazon anymore or if it is, it's up-priced. Do you have any alternative suggestions to Azamax?
