Laptop not turning on after battery was unplugged/plugged is a feature to protect from static electricity. It will reset after plugging the adaptor and pressing the power button for 20 seconds (depends on how the manufacturer implements this). Anyways, the way you handled the upgrade was awesome enough if not perfectly executed. You definitely followed some precautions like removing the batteries. And if a heatsink is provided, always make use of it as electronics will degrade over time due to heat... so the heatsink will always help whether you are gaming or not, as long as it will still fit in the laptop (profile is not so tall to create a bulge in the casing/cover).

It's like putting a timing cover on bro, screw size doesn't matter! But seriously, I'm a gearhead and computer geek. You did a great job. The "heatspreader" you put on the m.2 drive, helps to spread the heat better. You had 3 chips that heat up, putting that heatspreader on helps to evenly pull the heat from all the chips and spread it to a larger surface. The not booting up til it was plugged in was already explained below. But this is also an old video, I just wanted to give you props because I wasn't sure myself of what needed to be taken apart as I strictly work on desktops. I watched another video, apparently after you unplug the battery and everything, when you are done and you put the battery back you are supposed to plug your charger into the laptop to jump start it.

Great video. I will be upgrading my MSI G75 Thin. I also hope it has 2 ssd slots. I usually mark on a piece of paper to place the screws so they dont mix up. Great video - many thanks - Keep up the good work. Please add links to the upgrade parts you bought in the description :-) Probably I'm an idiot but it took me a while to feel confident that these systems use 2280 (size) NVMe's. I'm still confused whether a heat pad should be used between the SSD & motherboard, though. Having a drive which came with a heat spreader for its other side is probably a good thing. For what its worth, I don't think the hinge cover *needs* to be removed for this upgrade. I plan on not removing mine because it looks like a right fiddly b***h to get off & even more so to get back on. Particularly good to know about the PSU needing to be connected before it would boot :-O That would sure make me sick XD There's a tiny (reset?) switch underneath which can be pressed with a paper clip or similar - or possibly by hand even when the bottom case is off. In only 1 of the 5 TH-cam vid's I've watched on this model, they pressed it. Maybe that would have made it boot 1st time without the PSU? Anyway not only was this vid the top TH-cam result, it has excellent A/V quality, a clear & charismatic host who manages to be both not an IT nerd but handles the components with care & gets the job done well so I thought I'd give this longer-than-usual comment :-) Again, many thanks, man!

I was thinking of maybe getting between 1 and 4 Tb of space, or maximumly, 2Tb. I also saw you yourself had to watch a couple of videos to get the extra space ready by formatting the SSD, and hope maybe you can help me with that in the future if you can. I was be careful with this one, cause I got it at a super duper good price and know if i wanted to get another 16Gb of ram, it'll have to be crucial since I am kind of on a budget, haha. Yes I believe that would work but for best performance you would to match brand and capacity of both of the RAMs. With as cheap as memory has gotten over the years I chose to add both 32gb RAM
Hey man I need you to answer my question immediately, so I have the same laptop as u got but different specs I have the rtx 3060, i5 10500H and 8gb of ram, I was wondering where did you buy the ram and ssd and are the parts that you bought is it compatible with my laptop or not? if it's can u send me the website? and if I upgrade my pc will I get better fps on any game cuz I definitely have fps drop tho.
The ram and ssd info are down in the video description, I just searched for them and bought them from the best priced website I could find at the time. I would assume if you also have the GF65 thin these would also work with yours. I would also assume that these upgrades would help with fps but I am only using mine for video editing. I am running Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 16GB x2 DDR4 2666MHz CL18 1.2v (32GB Total). I think I would send a question to MSI tech support and see if they would give any guidance or see if they would confirm what would for sure work or not. I would just hate to tell you wrong. Thanks for the view!
The 2666 was the original speed I believe. I am unsure if the 3200 would be ok with it. It would probably be a good question for MSI tech support to verify if it would be ok. Thanks for the view!

@@TylerPotter That does make you wonder, doesn't it? Most laptops these days appear to come with small amount of RAM and equally small SSD, where for gamers, an upgrade is a necessity rather than a luxury. At the same time, if you upgrade through the vendor, they charge you 2-5 times more for the upgraded SSD/RAM you are getting. So, most people end up upgrading themselves - thereby voiding the warranty. In other words - it all feels a tad like a scam, as far as warranty is concerned.
I can't verify but I would think as long as it was the correct specs a 2tb SSD would work, you may want to send a message to MSI to make sure it is compatible. Thanks for the view!

Yes I believe that would work but for best performance you would to match brand and capacity of both of the RAMs. With as cheap as memory has gotten over the years I chose to add both 32gb RAM
I have the 2 drives but the second drive doesn't working
i keep getting sent to msi click bios, any help on what to do? no matter how many times i save and exit it just pops right back up
"Looking cool without really performing." Hilarious 😀😀😀
I try lol Thanks for the view!
hi, nice video. But is there any HDD slot in this laptop?
No only 2 SSD slots. Thanks for the view!
Thanks for the view
@@TylerPotter appreciated man! Keep it up good work tho, u earned Turkish subscriber bud😁
Hello! Can you leave the original disk (the one with Windows) and just add another one to increase the storage area?
Yes that is exactly what I did and it works great! Thanks for the view!
Can u make a video on how to do the second drive I put the ssd in but it’s not showing up pls help
I believe I also had to search how to make it show up as a new drive. Try searching "how to get a new SSD to show up" Thanks for the view!
Kinda need to run cities skylines but does it matter what brand of ram or ssd card your using??
No I think as long as you are running a good quality ram and or ssd you should have no problems. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter I was playing and game crashed due to not enough memory which was new because that game is super ram hungry
I have been struggling with the ram upgrade on this thing. I get random shutdowns...I have tried multi0lembrands of ram sticks. Very annoying. I assume you didn't have to mess around in the bios settings?
Weird mine has been rock solid ever since the install and I never did mess with the bios.
are they the same ram sticks? like ddr4 and ddr5. You can't mix the two.
nice video thanks for the info. now i know how to open the laptop. do you still need the 8gb ram that you replaced with 32gb ram. can i have that? :)
I added the 8gb in one of dad's laptops lol so it's already in use. Thanks for the view!
what can you say about the heat? mine is running super hot while gaming always throttle. 95°
@@makibarredo I am only using mine for video editing and it seems to do pretty good even when rendering.
This was not a bad video at all you did perfect
I just picked up a gf65 and I’m going to have to upgrade the ram soon
Awesome thank you! I have still been very happy with it, it does eat through some battery life but it really rips for the price so I am super happy with it. Thanks for the view!
Hello i got a Msi gf65 thin 10sdr with 8gb, not sure what kind of ram should i buy, going to go for 2nd hand ones. is any of these two will be compatible to my laptop ? I dont dare to buy anything cuz not sure if it gonna match or not... feeling frustrated with just 8gb ram but rest of parts are decent gtx1660ti and i7 10750h... need high ram to run multiple instances of d2r.. currently got these two options, 280eur each.. will try to bargain them Thanks in advance.
option1: Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 2666MHz C18 (this one is used and about 2 years old)
option2: Crucial SODIMM 64 GB (2x 32 GB) DDR4 3200 CL 22 (this one claims to be unused)
both from local ebay, which should i buy ?
I am running Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 16GB x2 DDR4 2666MHz CL18 1.2v (32GB Total). I think I would send a question to MSI tech support and see if they would give any guidance or see if they would confirm what would for sure work or not. I would just hate to tell you wrong. Thanks for the view!
thank you sir, sorry why did you choose a laptop ram whose speed is 2666mhx? why not the 3200mhz?
The 2666 was the original speed I believe. I am unsure if the 3200 would be ok with it. It would probably be a good question for MSI tech support to verify if it would be ok. Thanks for the view!
Could this also be done to a GF63 Thin
👍🏻good job!
Thanks for the view!
When i upgrade ram to 32 gb from 8 gb , will there any changes on FPS after that ? Thank you.
I unfortunately don't know for sure as I only use mine for video editing but I would think with more system resources it would allow better FPS, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will answer on it also. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter Thank you my friend

How much does it cost to upgrade Ram & SSD?
I believe the RAM is around $130 and the SSD was around $100 online and just a few hours of your time for install. Thanks for the view!
How do I backup my current ssd to install new ssd? Mine is current 500gb and I wanna install 2tb as I have quite a bit used due to games. I changed ram from 8gb to 32.
The Gf65 has 2 SSD slots so you can just add your 2tb ssd and keep your 500gb installed also.
@@TylerPotter I guess I should’ve stated I have the gf63 thin 11UC
Bro I’m trying to take the case off but there is something in the middle that is preventing it from coming off I tried sliding it to the side to come off but nothing works
There is at least one hidden screw under a sticker that I remember.
I am having trouble putting the hinge cover back.
Yeah it believe I fought with it also.
is it possible to just add a crucial ddr4 ram stick with 8gb instead of getting a pair?
Yes just one stick would be like the stock configuration and should work fine. Thanks for the view!
today
which ssd is better for this laptop?
I want to upgrade
That's a good question I still am having good luck with my current one installed. Thanks for the view!
Bro after ram upgrade you have some cpu overheat issue?
I only ever do video editing with it but even during video rendering it seems to stay pretty cool. The GF65 Thin has 2 pretty decent fans built in. They are pretty darn loud when they are going at full blast but they seem to do the job.
Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter Thanks a lot for your help my friend you helped us very well
Does this remove warranty.
I did this video and nothing is lighting up and its not turning on either , can i get a little help ?
You need to plug into the power cord to get it to boot up
Bhai 2.5Tb ka hdd laga skte hai kya extra slot me?
मेरा 1टीबी है लेकिन मुझे यकीन नहीं है कि सबसे बड़ा आकार क्या काम करेगा।
Does it matter what kind of ssd I add? My laptop came with a Kingston ssd but if I want can I add a Samsung ssd
Correct I have 2 different brands in mine with no issues. Thanks for the view!
Have the same laptop boutta attempt to upgrade ram wish me luck
Nice! Mine has been great for a long time now!
@@TylerPotter honestly an amazing laptop especially for the price I paid got it for about $350 on Black Friday a few years back. Been through hell and still running good. Decided to upgrade ram to give it that little extra oomf
Can I install ram of different brand
First ram already installed of samsung and I want to install ram in second slot of kingston fury
My laptop is also gf series
I believe you can mix ram but you would want the same speed MHz for example both 2666MHz. I think it is ideal to have matched brand but I do think it works with mismatched. But double check with a few people smarter than me to be sure lol Thanks for the view!
Upto How much Storage does this GF65 thin support
That is a good question I'm not sure what the max is unfortunately. Thanks for the view!
What model is this gf65 thin? Is it the 10SDR?
Yes you are correct, this is the GF65 thin 10SDR. Thanks for the view!
Do I need to buy a new ssd or can I keep the current one and just install the ram
You can defiantly keep the stock SSD and just upgrade RAM that is no problem. Thanks for the view!
Will it remove warranty when upgrade more SSD ?
Yes I believe anytime you open up the case it probably voids the warranty.
Just added an m. 2 drive myself and my laptop won't power on
I had to plug mine into the power supply to get it to boot up
How much Internal Memory can this laptop handle? I don't mean RAM, I mean actual internal storage. Can I put in 2 sticks of 512GB SSD?
Yes I am running the stock 512GB SSD and a 1TB SSD, both seem to work great. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter so I can put two sticks of 1 tb SSD in this bitch!?!!
I would think so lol Mine is very happy with my 1.5TB (512GB and 1TB) total at this time.
@@TylerPotter ooohoohoohooo...
do not exist sata slot?
I litteraly have this exact computer
It is still performing great for me! Thanks for the view!
What site did you get the parts off of
I just searched around for the best price at the time.
where and what was the sites
@@TylerPotter
Hey if I add extra 1ram or ssd will it remove warranty it ?
I believe if you open up the case it in theory would void the warranty. Thanks for the view!
If changed 500 ssd will it remove windows 10 11v?
If you replace the original SSD it would remove windows since it is stored on that SSD.
will putting in a second ssd wipe everything?
No everything remains on the original SSD. Thanks for the view!
thank you kindly for the reply.
Will my warranty void if I open screw on middle
I would think so due to the label. So far mine has been great though! Thanks for the view!
Do i need to apply thermal pads on the ssd?
No, you just install the pads directly to the ssd with the provided tape on the back. Thanks for the view!
Can we put 3200mhz ram?? Please reply
I'm not sure I just knew the 2666 would work. You might try contacting MSI to see if it would work. Thanks for the view!
Can we add 2tb hdd? Anyone please answer
I can't verify but I would think as long as it was the correct specs a 2tb SSD would work, you may want to send a message to MSI to make sure it is compatible. Thanks for the view!
Is it a 3500mb or 1800mb for the ssd
"Sequential read/write speed up to 3500/3000 MB/s, Performance may vary based on system hardware & configuration"
This is the info off of the listing for the SSD. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter I used command prompt - winsat disk -ran -write -drive C (and later for drive F - new ssd). For C drive - the speed was 256mb/s - and for the new SSD, it was 483mb/s.
do you have to remove the battery?
No battery stayed in but I did unplug it while working on it. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter Thank you! Great video. Very helpful! 🙂
Thank you!
And my laptop won’t turn on now
Mine would not boot up after also, I had to plug into the power supply before it would turn on. Thanks for the view!
I have the same laptop, I'm wondering what's the top limit for the frequency on the memory RAM? I mean I could install a memory above 2666 Mhz ?
That is a good question I'm not sure, I would shoot MSI support a email and see if they can verify. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter Thanks for the reply and nice video mate!!
Can i install a laptop hdd ?
You could add an external hdd but this chassis will only fit a ssd

It's not a ssd it's a m.2 drive
Thanks for the correction and view!
And what do you think an m.2 drive are? A harddrive? This is an ssd. Ssd comes as s-ata, m-sata, m.2 nvme, pci-express.
