Cork has changed so much it's hardly recognizable to me. I lived in Ireland from 1973 to 1975. The wealth of the country and population has increased dramatically. Back then you were lucky to be able to feed yourself, much less shop in these new stores. None of which were there then.
Scott in Colorado I had a neighbor who was from Cork. He said the same of Ireland, and that was the reason he moved to the US. He was very financially well off by the time I graduated high school. Also everyone wanted him to run for public office, but he never did. He is very good man, and treats me like a son, so I feel very Irish.

In my mid teens around 1960 my pal and I walked down Barrack street (where this video starts) and decided to count the number of pubs there were on this street, from the top down to the river Lee. We counted 70 and probably missed out one or two at the bottom. They all done business, so it just goes to show the extent of the heavy drinking culture that existed in Cork at the time, and in the rest of Ireland for that matter. How things have changed.

Way late response but yes, Corkonians are amazing to international students! I felt very welcomed from the beginning, and had loads of international friends that all fell in love with the city. I'm also not in Cork anymore, because I had to return to my home in the US! But I hope you enjoy your visit!

You have the same intro music as Dana Newman from Wanted an Adventure. Is an American TH-camr in Germany. Many of the shop chains I recognized from London like Boots,Tesco, Oasis... Probably they are from the UK. But of course the pubs will be authentically Irish ;)

I'm from cork and I can honestly say it's a very safe city and we all try and look out for each other. But if it's after 11 at night it's best not to walk down any dark alleys. Safe in the city's and are always well light up. 👍

The accent is a bit different from Dublin but city Irish accents are easy enough to understand. The accents get really challenging when you are in more rural areas I would say, but most people are happy to repeat what they said if you struggle. Cork was an amazing place to live and is so welcoming to international visitors. I hope you have a great time there! I also have another vlog from Cork on my channel if you want more information! That's probably because she seemed to focus on franchise shops that you can find in any city and walked right past the English Market and the Crawford Art Gallery without even mentioning them. In fact, if she'd arrived straight from the airport without ever having been in Cork before, she could've shot the same video.
