The naming of Cork as The Rebel City dates back to 1491 resulting from Cork's support for Perkin Warbeck, pretender to Henry VII's throne as Richard, Duke of York, one of the disappeared "Princes In The Tower" and the apparent true King.

Wonderful and informative with beautiful scenery of my hometown. Like others who have found themselves away from Cork for far too long, I really enjoyed seeing familiar places that I took for granted while I grew up there. I’m Going back to Cork soon and I am glad I watched your short documentary. Good luck to you, and thanks for sharing your wonderful work.

A rebellion against Henry VII was launched from Ireland and ultimately quashed, but in 1491, yet another pretender to the English throne - a man named Perkin Warbeck, claiming to be the Duke of York - arrived in Cork City. Though the Earl of Kildare stayed out of this second attempt to steal the crown, the majority of the people of Cork - including the Lord Mayor - stood behind Warbeck. It is because of this apparent support of Warbeck that Cork became known to the English monarchy as ‘the rebel county’.

I googled the weather in West cork in December and it says it is an average of 48° f. I wish I knew what it was like that night. It could have been a lot warmer. I just feel like if it was 48° f I don't think she would have been waiting outside for very long in her pajamas trying to flag someone down that she may be meeting. If it was 48° f I really feel as though she would have had some type of coat on.

Hi there! Feel your pain man but love from Here anyway. Have you considered buying smaller loaves of bread and maybe cutting down on biscuits to save money? Did you know that you can make omelette with small squares of bread and two eggs and if feeling extravagant maybe some gerkin? We here send out our love to you man and we feel your pain deeply. Living in this great city can make you feel lucky indeed and to think of some person like yourself out there going through bad times we love you man. Small tips in savings include the reusable shopping bag because you save money in not purchasing one when you are shopping? Do you know that you can make a nutritional soup from turnip and oak root? It's another saver. If you ever do make it it's casual Dress so don't worry. We are a welcoming people or what we like to refer to ourselves as a race. Anyway keep nodding man and keep singing that tune because we here have faith in you and can't wait to see you if you ever make it here! Love and Beans!
Oh we here also don't mind if you are of small stature as we have steps in public transport and lifts for people. Lots of nice Cake shops here too with a various selection of delightful light creamed jam eclairs. Such a wonderful city
Anyway man again we feel your pain

This was filmed around 2004 or 2005. The 90's and early 00's really were Corks golden years imo. The vibe Cork had as shown on this video, has changed for the worse in more recent years sadly. The city is unpoliced and just full of junkies and mobile phone and vaping shops now! Cork used to be such a nice city before the heroin took hold. People talk about the 80's being a bad time for the city, but i'd take the 80's Cork over the current version of the city any day. At least the 80's version of Cork actually had guards patrolling the streets! Still though unlike Dublin and Limerick back in the day, we thankfully don't have a major gangland crime problem in Cork. We don't need armed guards patrolling the streets of the city 24/7 thankfully! I love Cork , but the city has been on a real downwards spiral since around 2014 onwards imo.

Obviously Alan Partridge wasn't available to narrate so they roped in some transition year student for the gig; and I'm willing to bet it was written by a guy who does menus, sorry, 'bills of fayre' for pub carvery lunches... It's a shame- if the creators had tried to inject this with even a little flair it might have contended for the 'Birmingham, you're looking good Baby' style high cheese of classics like the 1970's Telly Savalas narrated promo for Britain's 2nd city, but instead it comes over like a wet Tuesday in Blarney. Never mind, though- I hear great things about Limerick...

I was 20 years old before I even saw a live black person. That was in UK many years ago. Consequently I have no hang ups about people of different races or cultures. While I enjoyed my years in UK my ultimate ambition was to live in USA. Mission accomplished (as GWBush) would say. Now have family and grandchildren some of which are Harvard grads. Appalled that Pres Trump is not welcome in Scotland, the birthplace of his own mother. U.S. presidents who can prove even a thimbleful of Irish blood cant wait to visit the ancestral home and bask in the love that all Ireland and the Irish have for these United States.
Best of all I still have wonderful lifelong friends from my days in UK. With all our problems and controversies the good old U S of A IS the greatest country in the world - it doesnt need to be made great again.
