    That’s really cool. It’s very similar to what we do in gardening when we make compost tea; you’re making slurry tea. The aeration will significantly increase your microbial activity and make it SUPER SLURRY! I’m looking forward to seeing the impact on the grass this coming season. Awesome job, Tom and Co.

    Who knew looking at a pit of slurry could be so interesting. In composting, there’s a difference between anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and it would seem that besides keeping it mixed the air bubbling through it would be beneficial by keeping it aerobic as well. Good way to help the farm at any rate.

    • @patpierce4854
      @patpierce4854 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For awhile, I used to work in the wastewater industry. What folks don’t realize, is that the whole process of converting waste into clean, safe water, is a totally natural process that is sped up, by keeping everything stirred and aerated. Aerobic bacteria (“slurry bugs”) in Tom’s slurry tower, are closely related to the ones that break down household wastewater; they reduce the methane emissions as well as make the nitrogen more available to the grass in your fields. A single batch of those slurry bigs, will easily spread throughout your entire slurry system, and keep being effective going forward. The Ginger Warrior is so correct - this feeds the soil and benefits the farm for years into the future.

    Hi Tom, picking up on your concern about having your pump damaged. Do you still have all those surplus tire's. . There is a farm by us that has them built up on the corners of there barns, buildings all around the base of the slurry tank to a height of about five feet. I am assuming it is to stop trailers damaging the buildings, when they turn a bit to tight . Might be worth you thinking of using them.🤔👍😉

    Hi Tom, love the channel, I'm sorry to say your wasting your time, I'm a researcher in emissions from slurry, unfortunately with the movement of the slurry so much, and lack of crust your loosing a serious amount of ammonia nh3 which is where the majority of available n is coming from, as ammonia loss is a physical process. Im afraid your slurry ammonical N is going to be much lower than if you left it alone.
    think I commented before that I'd tested slurry bugs and saw no reall difference in terms of emissions or nutrient content by adding them...

    The methane reduction means there is an increase in CO2. Considering Methane is a much worse green house gas for the environment, it is much better to be running an aerobic digestion of the slurry.
    That being said, even better would be to cap the slurry tank and capture the methane as natural gas and buy your self a methane gas tractor. But I bet that would get pricey.

      I to also must battle with my parents about the small things, like insulating the water containers for the animals so the heaters work less. 3 years talking into on that project. already the power bills been cut by a quarter and all i have used is scrap around the property. trouble with air is that it takes the route of least resistance. At some point I suspect that slurry will block exits from the many nozzles, especially if you allow the rubber to degrade. In the meantime and hopefully for a few years you will, at last, get use of the full capacity of your storage tower.

    Interesting vid Tom. Looks like a great idea. Does it produce any more whiff than your old system. And is it good for the environment, does it mean methane gas is being bubbled off?

    Have you considered a methane based power generation system

  • @zemadeiran
    @zemadeiran 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tom,
    How about turning the slurry tank into a bio digester and collecting the methane
    Run a large generator off the methane which you can feed into the grid and you could power a bitcoin mine on the farm as an additional income stream
    The same model could apply to farms up and down the country
    You would be converting the methane into a much less harmful greenhouse gas which would be a win

      You could also hire out space and host other peoples miners
      Toms eco Bitcoin Farm
      "powered by poo"
      Its a win Tom, Bitcoin WILL be worth £100.000.000 per coin further down the line
      It will also end up being THE single world currency

    Does the addition of air increase the smell? Here in my neck of the woods in the USA. We empty our lagoons and pits twice a year. The smell can be potent and palpable at times. When my kids ask what the smell is I tell them it’s the smell of money with a big grin on my face.

    I have a question, regarding the slurry pumps/system? Once "up & running" should some thing go wrong within the tank, TOM, will you be required to "don a diver's suit, place a scuba tank on your back, and descend into the depths, with a "brush/screw/driver/piece of stick -whatever" to fix the fault?? Would make a great video - "Tom, under Slurry". Just asking!

    How much nitrogen will go to the air in gasses of NH3 ammonia? If we put this system in Denmark, we would go to prison. If you see it as an alternative to the agitator, I get the idea. But you are really just wasting tons of nitrogen every day with no "crust"

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apparently you will loose a little bit of nitrogen but that will be nothing compared to the methane your not putting in to the atmosphere.
