No idea how much it costs to bring someone like him into a project but when you are spending that much money on something that is going to be the bedrock of the farm for years to come spending money on someone who has done it, knows what cows like and need and then follows up to see what can be improved is worth every penny. That guys really knows his stuff, brilliant video Tom.

Absolutely fantastic. Stuart knows what he is talking about and his dedication and high standards shone through with his expressions of disappointment that the second smoke bomb did not clear as fast as he had hoped. Immediately he was looking for solutions as to how to improve it. What was obvious was that the shed is doing what it was designed to do. Stuart said it himself, 'the cows are almost too laid back'. The cattle behaviour is all the evidence you really need and damned do they look very, very content and happy.

I've been waiting for this video. So much better than the old shed. I'm so happy for you and your cows. And this is also giving me ideas for my small goat and sheep sheds that my son is helping me build when he returns from deployment. Ventilation was something I had not really thought about for them at all. Even thought my animal numbers, animals themselves and sheds will be much smaller, tiny in comparison to yours, this really gives me some insite. My little sheds will be surrounded on 3 sides by medium to thick tree line which I now understand would limit their fresh air, which I don't want. Like you, I want healthy happy animals. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Great information from Stuart on the test results on the new shed! Overall, based on his testing, the shed scored very well. Even on the end, with excessive breeze, the shed still tested fairly well; and, provides an option of improving your score by enclosing that end…hopefully with “gates” that can be opened and closed rather than permanent fixtures. Still, very impressive testing by Stuart with great explanation of the test results!! Made the information he provides very understandable and helps explain the goals and their benefits.

Amazing science. Stewart explains everything so well. Had no idea so much goes into the planning. And the cows are so very comfortable and happy. Lots of great milk.

The new shed looks awesome the cows should be very comfortable. On a side note we had our first highland calf of the season yesterday!

I hate to rain on your parade Tom but the smoke test shows the ventilation could be a lot better in your new shed, the solution is to raise up or remove the ridge vent on top, remove some of the Yorkshire boarding at the sides, every second one for example will help.

Ask Stuart about light in a robot shed. There you want an even amount of cows that eating sleeping and at the robots 24/7. And in the summer we use fans to cool down cows, but then you push the air down instead

Fans can be reversed to pull the air up.

@@Cricket2731 Yeah you're right but then you don't get the same effect. And in the US, tunnel ventilation is common, but the air from the cows doesn't rise there either, just move from one side to the other
