      It looks so so so bad , I never want a chemical in my hair . I remember someone put something in my hair and it never went to a Afro again . Thanks for being honest girl sorry your going through the struggle . I liked your natural hair . I wonder do you have to cutt it off to be a real natural again or does it grow out and blend in again . Anyway try again and put the products they say in it and then see what happens it might be better . Anyway keep growing your hair no matter what mistakes you do and try not to cutt it off because it might just act normal again . Good luck . That matted looked was so horrible and that knot in your hair cringy . Every time we get king hair something wants to ruin it for us . When it dries it looks nice . Bye girl good luck in school too

    I've been giving curly perms to my clients for 30 years, and Gina Curl is nothing but a modern-day Jheri Curl. The sooner Gina Curl users stop running from curl activator because they don't like having wet hair 24/7, the sooner they will realize activator is what makes the difference between happy and sad hair days after getting a curly perm. After chemically changing the structure and porosity of your hair, your hair now has new hydration requirements. Chemical moisturizers are some of the only ones where the molecules are small and dense enough to penetrate your chemically altered shaft. Activator has everything you need in it to avoid shedding, breakage, and matting. It probably seems corny and cheesy to go buy an activator, but just go buy it. Thank your local OG curly perm hairstylist later.

      Also they wash their hair way too often using the same shampoo they've been using and they are running brushes through the hair. Also they wait six months or more for a retouch. I had a wave nouveau back in the 90's and let me tell you my hair flourished because I followed the proper process.

      Right!!! you have to keep your hair moisturized, not washing it so much you dry out your hair and then it takes longer to get it back, plus the new growth is a different texture so it must stay moisturized. If your hair is like mines it sucks up the product faster. Good luck.💜💜

      I been trying to find info on a Jheri curl but I can barely find any. So to have a Jheri curl does it have to stay wet 24/7? And would I be able to get silk presses and braids or would that cause too much damage?

    As a someone who went to cosmetology school, gina curl is the same as a perm, short for permanent curl, not to be confused with a relaxer which straightens your hair. You're chemically turning your curls from tight to loose with some type of ammonium. Anytime you change your hair chemically(alkaline for anybody in medical), this happens by taking out the acid(conditioning, natural oils). Our hair acts best in acid or neutral. If you do get a perm, you need hydration by oil. One way is to use mayo. This is the best deep conditioner because it has the oils and protein from either the egg, or soy(if you use vegan mayo). On a daily, I would wet it in warm to hot water(to comb it out), oil it(the less ingredients the better), twist it, and put in underneath some silk or satin. Do not go to bed with it down, or in a ponytail(unless your grabbing all the twist together). You need as less tension as possible.

      This is directed to the one who said glycerin is a sealant.
      Glycerin does not seal in moisture. Glycerin can add moisture by pulling it from the air and depositing it into the hair. A sealant is needed to seal in moisture. Without a sealant the glycerin will also pull moisture out of the hair to deposit into the air when the air is dry. Never use glycerin as a sealant because it is not one.
      Anyway, you told your daughter right by having her add glycerin to all of her products. 🙂

      @@StayUniquee Hi just want to add my opinion. So this perm is very similar to the old gherri curl or the wave nouveau. I used to have a curly perm and it was always beautiful and look like I was born with that texture. All of what you are describing should never happen. Your hair should actually be growing rapidly because of length retention if you keep your hair moist. Sound like your hair is drying out because it lacks moisture. If you try the method that I recommend you will always have great looking curls with lots of growth. You are doing all of the wrong things for this type of curl. I can give you details on how to never have shedding or breakage. It’s too much to type. Plz reach out via email or respond to this comment. I guarantee your problem will be solved. • @joyh1506
      @joyh1506 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      She needs a spray on moisturizer and curl activator. And never shampoo twice a week unless she’s worked out or has a sweaty scalp. Anytime our hair(African Americans) is too dry it will break and mat. Too much products will clog hair follicles so it’s truly a balance but I wouldn’t add water to help detangle as a moisturizer unless it’s before shampooing and conditioning. Curls aren’t difficult to manage until it’s time for a touch up. Which means the new growth needs to be chemically treated usually every 3 months or so to prevent over neutralizing the hair. Which is a whole other story. Wow. If you’re interested be sure the person that you go to has experience with Jherri curls- a black stylists. Not perms- usually non black stylists. --Back in the day Joy had a curl and it was beautiful and always moisturized and my curls were popping!

    I have been natural for 5+ years. I have 4 ab and c all over my head. I have thought and fought the urge to put chemicals in my hair many times. But since I started stretching my hair with tension rollers and flat ironing it once a week my hair has thrived. No more fairy knots or tangles and less breakage and shedding. My hair retains moisture better and overall looks healthy. And I live in south Florida where it’s humid! So when I stretch it I might keep it in a bun so humidity doesn’t make it revert back to frizzy coils but it’s much easier to manage in a stretched state and I have a lot of style options. Good luck to u and all my other natural sisters 👩🏽🙋🏽‍♀️🙅🏽‍♀️

    Yeah long curly hair tangles and matts SO EASILY. My daughter's hair is almost waist length and is a more silky textured. And man her hair is HUGE. She has a lot of hair. Protective styles are your best friend too. Styles that are low manipulation helps minimize tangles. It helps to plan your week based off what you're doing and plan your hairstyles that way. Also maybe do a full wash one day of the week and a cowash the other day. Any day you wear it down, wet it and add leave in conditioner and do a light finger detangle.

It may even allow you to go a little longer without getting a touch up . Thanks for your honesty !

      I had the wave Neavou for about 2 years. It grew my hair very long and I used the soft sheen & Carson wave Neavou products but after my last wave Neavou I noticed that a lot of my hair fell out and came out in clumps. Several others experienced the same thing and it was awful forcing us to have shorter hair. It was constantly shedding and unmanageable. All that she is experiencing in the video is the same way thing we went through. I became natural again and it’s been over a year and it was the best decision ever made again! Don’t alter your curls with chemicals for the look just switch up your natural hair care products.

    I’m a licensed Cosmetologist. The products that your really suppose to use after a curly hair products should be professional products recommended by your stylist. Your stylist can get products for you because he/she should have a license. I recommend the Wave Nouveau set. But I’m not sure if it’s compatible with the curly perm you have .. that’s something you would have to ask your stylist that gave you the curly perm.

    • @StayUniquee
      @StayUniquee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +107

      So I would say it’s gonna be different for everyone. If you have shorter natural hair that you feel like doesn’t take too much work and is relatively easy to do, then you may not see as much benefit in getting this. But I had waist length 4b/4c hair that took forever and this has cut down my wash & style time in more than half. I know I listed a lot of negatives so it seems like a lot of work but that’s just because I wanted to be transparent and shed some light on some of my personal struggles. There’s other people in the comment section that havent had these problems (or they have & they fixed it) and they’re doing fine and figuring out things way better than I am! So it’s all about finding what works for you😊

  • @cau1864
    @cau1864 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    The reason why a lot of these girls are experiencing damage with the gina curl is because Gina doesn't really know about African American hair. And yes, I promise you, it is a scam. The Gina Curl is the same thing as a regular curl except it's actually worse. With the straight variation she uses instead of the regular curl smoothing straightener, it makes it so you can never straighten your hair or else it will not convert. With the regular wave nouveau you can straighten your hair occasionally like maybe once or twice a year without ruining the curl pattern. Also, you cannot wash your hair so often when you have a perm and you MUST use the products FOR curly perm NOT regular natural hair care products. You can wash your hair once a month with curly perm, you can "wet" your hair more often if you'd like. Gina curl girls hair does not ever look good. Even if you go on her page, those women have dry damaged looking hair except for the FIRST time they get it done.

    Something that helped me with my Gina Curl is oil. I wet my hair each day with water (and if needed I'll add some leave-in conditioner, if I'm feeling fancy I'll then add a curl cream) and then add my preference of hair oil to the palms of my hands and work it through my hair. I found that this helps my hair retain moisture and makes it softer/easier to work with. I also like using the Leave-In Conditioner and Avocado/Rose Oil Clump & Define Cream from Bounce Curl.

    • @1111KO
      @1111KO 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What brand Leave-In do you use? I currently use Kinky Curly Leave-In (after failed trys of As I Am & Cantu). For Oil, I use 100% Sweet Almond Oil for my hair refresh between wash days, but use Palm Oil for my pree-poo on wash days. I've been thinking on Avocado Oil too (maybe), since it penetrates the hair shaft too.

BUT we only used the products associated with the type of curl we had at the time (Care free/Leisure Cure/Wave Nuevo). And we did not do the washing ourselves, only the professional stylist washed our hair. I literally went from 2in hair to LONG HAIR (I had 2 in hair at the end of the school year, it grew over the summer, and was thick and long once the summer ended). I even heard someone say (WOW that curl really grew her some hair over the summer) LOLOLOLOL. I also wore my hair out all the time and only used headbands if that. People get perms because they say their natural hair is harder when the reality is it’s easier because any perm dye or alteration requires just as much and even more consistency then if u stayed in the natural state. Do what works for you but it sucks when you realize the before was better. I had to start over 4x. And decided to just do twist when I’m lazy and when I’m not so a nice flexi rod set. I just wash with mielle shampoo and spray after with Rosmary and water twice a week or whenever in the week I feel like it, I don’t even condition after just apply my tgin with some Vaseline and call it a day, . I do a deep condition with any food item I find in my pantry once a mon th or so. I’ve been so simple and it fits my lifestyle. I have high porosity hair and at 15” if that helps anyone. Lastly I pray a lot over my crown. It brings beauty to my face and I’m so thankful for it

    I haven't looked at the comments to see if anybody else has said this, but I grew up in the '80s and all this is is a Jeri curl mixed with a wave nouveau curl. The Jeri curl was greasy and curly and the wave nouveau was also a Jerry curl but it was supposed to look dry and not as greasy. So to me that's all this is. It's done the same way just probably has different products and a different name.. especially if you are changing the curl pattern by putting a straightener on, then you're rolling it up and putting a curl reconstructor on rinsing that out and finishing it with a neutralizer. It's the same process.

Depending on how your hair is you may be able to get away with washing at week two but all of that is cudos to twisting at night or in between washes. I wear twists out or just wash and go and if I’m not twisting(simple 2 strand twist) it up at night… it will be matted after a few days. LOC method ladies… liquid(water) oil and cream… after the perm you definitely have to get a touch up every 3,4 months if you want to keep up with the perm. Gina curl is probably gonna have a lawsuit coming, cause her product is incomplete. She doesn’t even neutralize the hair after the treatment. That’s why you can’t comb it or blow dry it or anything. What that lady is doing to impressionable young women who don’t understand the science of hair is abhorrent.

  • @abrown7860
    @abrown7860 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When your hair is stiff. When it feels like you can’t put a comb in it. Don’t! Wet your hair with warm water to open the cuticle and some moisturizing conditioner. MAKE SURE IT’S MOISTURIZING. A conditioner that works well with your hair type. You need to know the polarity of your hair to find the conditioner that works well with your hair type, which can be found on you tube. After you’ve messaged the conditioner in your hair from root to tip. Put on a CLEAR shower cap to hold the moisture in your hair and wait a few minutes before washing out. Check your hair. It should be balanced now if not wait a few minutes more before washing the conditioner out.
    As a beautician I have gone through the same turmoils of hair problems. Combing my hair that feels like it’s locked up for good. I have come to find out that that’s what happens when you have an overload of protein. The only way to combat it is by using moisturizer and warm water. The same with if using a lot of moisturizing shampoos and conditioners the hair doesn’t want to curl. It’s soft but won’t hold a curl. Protein is needed. There are a lot of black women on hair journeys on you tube. Learn how to take care of your hair. I stopped with relaxers. The products are not made by US, but the products are killing US. Make it make sense Sis.😊GO NATURAL. Put your hair in a ponytail and forget about it.😊

    Black hair is beauty in itself. There is no need to straighten it. Hair grows better in its natural state. I just started growing my hair in December and it's 6 inches long. Most black girls in my class has the same length as me and has been growing there hair since they were born. They ask me what's the secret the answer is there is no secret just wash, oil and deep condition. As a black boy with 4c hair in high-school I noticed all the black girls with short hair either perms it, Gina curl it, texturize it or use heat to strengthen it. It pains me to see black people strengthen there hair because black is beauty and never forget it. Our big hair is another ass-set that makes us unique. EMBRACE YOUR NATURAL well...YOU😁

Does that mean I hate my hair or my race? Maybe I just want to style it differently (like white folks are allowed to do with 0 backlash) or maybe I'm just curious to see how long it's grown/is it even growing bc I otherwise I can't tell?! Pay more attention to the black folk who use skin bleaching. Hair is just hair. It is meant to be styled as desired!

    If you stop getting them your hair will break off. This service is meant to be moisturized and that's why it's shedding.

    Can u get braids or weave with this? It sounds like ur hair would break off if u have a weave because it would be difficult to wash 2x per week with a weave

      I was told that you can wear braids for up to 2 weeks, but no longer than that!

    Did you style with a hairspray after washing? That used to cause matting in my relaxer days. It would take two washings.

    Thanks for this honest video. Would you say that a texlax would provide similar results that a GinaCurl would provide?
