Low porosity... I have to soak my hair just for it to be damp.. and when it dries lord help us all. While to the touch it’s soft it looks like simbas main 😩😩😩😩😩🤦🏽♀️
I've found that deep conditioning with a hooded dryer and applying a leave in in the shower has worked wonders for opening up the cuticles and allowing the moisture in. Hopefully this helps cause I know the low porosity struggle!
My hair too. Just skates on top of that water. Engen pays off the curl age above the water. Completely unmanageable when it's dry and looks like it literally mushrooms out of my head when it's naturally down. Any ideas on how to elongate and define the curls when it's down and if I should leave conditioner in it when I go to flat iron it

My Hair levitates on water! I enjoyed watching this. I’ve heard that porosity can change over time and I have been doing research on altering porosity through great hair practices but I’m to lazy to implement. So I’m team low porosity all day!
Hey love, that's really interesting! I've never heard of it changing unless there was some type of damage or chemical treatment, but I guess anything is possible. Just please be careful! Thanks for watching!!

Thanks for sharing this information. Eight months ago I decided after my hair falling out to go natural and it's been challenging. After doing the test, my results were low porosity. Which explains a lot and why it so hard to keep my hair moisturized. It's soft in the back, wavy in the front and motherland at the top.

Spoiler Alert: my hair hasn't grown since (it's been about 4 years) I've recently gotten into doing my own hair and realized how bad my situation is. Let's just say, I have split ends FOR DAYS. Anyway, I'm considering a big chop, but would rather try to save what's there. Thx for making this video, it really helps a sister out 🥰 stay safe ❤️

You have a new sub... Moi😏🤗... Did the test immediately after watching the video... Me geting the heat coming... Low porosity all day.... My strand still floating on water 💦 😂😂
I've just tested and have very low porosity. I will start using milks. I'm also in the UK and I'm not sure if the weather ie. cold and rainy, affects the choice of products I should use. I stayed a week in the Caribbean last year and used a blend of natural oils on my hair for the duration. They really took well and my hair was soft and very healthy. When I returned to use them in the UK, it left my hair stiff and I felt it clogged my hair even more!
Hey Kim! I’d say the weather definitely has something to do with it. I’m not sure, but the Caribbean may have been more of a dry heat (less humid) and back home in the UK’s the rain made the humidity more intense. Since you know those oils don’t fair well there, I’d steer away from them. When you start looking into hair milks, be sure to research the products ph level, you’ll want a ph level around 6.5 because this will cause the cuticles of our low porosity hair to open up and receive moisture. You can Google Ph level of any product. Personally I skip oils all together (except for when I deep condition) because they just sit on top of my hair and leaves it extremely oily. If nothing else, seal in that hair milk with a cream such as shae butter or any other water based cream of your choice. Hope this helps! 💕
Great video, very informative. I will test hair tonight and return with result. I’m super exciting! Oh.. great job on collaborating perspective views and understanding for audiences young and old....👍🏽✔️👌🏽
I feel like im a mix because i did the test multiple times and sometimes the hair is floating and sometimes it sinks i also know that my hair loves moisture i gave up trying to straighten my hair because even in the winter if i left too early in the morning when there is moisture in the air my hair curls back up it just sucks all the moisture out the air but some of it still feels dry and i think thats from damage from dying it so much
I'm 55 yrs old with hair that doesn't wanna curl...except, when wet I get a little wavy/curl and then when it dries it's STRAIGHT! I guess from years of relaxers...which everyone tells me I never needed. Anywhoo...I did the test tonight and it would seem, I am Low Porosity. I even hanked hair from different parts of my head (front, middle, and back). I have like 2B/2C texture. My hair sucks. :(
How long has it been since your last relaxer? If you’ve haven’t been getting it trimmed or didn’t cut off the relaxed hair, then that may be why your hair is drying straight. Of course it could also just be that that’s your hair texture, but if you had curls before getting a relaxer it’s likely that you’d still have them. Also, if you discover that you still have relaxed ends, I’d advise doing the rest again once you’ve cut the relaxed hair since processing your hair in any way can affect its porosity. Hope this helps! 😊
So did the test at first my hair dunked for 3 of the 5 mins. Then I came back at 5 mins and it was floating 😳. So am I high or low? 🤦🏾♀️ Love your videos. ♥️
Hey Trisha! Was your hair completely free of product? In order for it to sink, it would have had to have been flooded with water, but to float would mean no water would have entered your cuticles, so the order of those occurrences sounds like there may have been an interference in the test. Be sure to gently lay the strand on top of the water and leave it completely undisturbed for the duration of the test. Hope this helps! 😊
I think I’m low porosity 🤷🏽♀️ My hair levitates but it wasn’t completely on the surface it was just under the surface and when it was pressed, it started to sink but one end of the strand was at the bottom and the other was at the top. I tried it a second time and all of it was just resting on the surface of the water no barrier of the water was broken but when I pressed it sunk to the bottom slowly. I know it’s not part of the test but I was just curious....so I guess I’M LOW POROSITY!
Thank you for this information because I have never even heard these terms until now I know what products to start using more of for my hair and my children hair what can I use to stop it from breakage I found out I have low porosity hair
The big thing you’ll want to do being low porosity is using heat when you deep condition. You’ll have to experiment with different products because everyone’s hair is different. No, you can take a shed hair or one that comes out when you wash or detangle. Just make sure it’s hair that doesn’t have any product on it and hair that is completely natural.
You’ll need products that will help open your cuticles These products should have a higher ph or be considered as alkaline. You can do a google search on which products have a higher ph. Does your hair texture determine whether you’re a high, norm, or low porosity? Bc I have 3 different hair textures, and I don’t know which one to do :/
Great question! You can either place a plastic shower cap over your head and leave it on for 30 mins ( the heat from your body will result in heat accumulation inside the cap) or you can sit under a hooded dryer with a plastic cap for roughly 15mins. Make sure the hooded dryer is on low heat.

I have 4 different hair texter should I test all 4?
You can, but it’s likely that your porosity will be the same throughout your hair regardless of the texture.
So I tried it my hair was still floating after 5 mins
But after about 20 mins I took it to pour it out and the hair was at the bottom so now I'm just confused
You are low porosity. Being low porosity just means it takes a little longer for your hair to absorb the moisture.

Does your hair texture determine whether you’re a high, norm, or low porosity? Bc I have 3 different hair textures, and I don’t know which one to do :/
No, hair texture doesn’t determine porosity, but try and test a strand from each texture and see if they all give you same result.
