      If you're wanting to do the frame swap, you're stuck with the 05-07 era, as the 2001 body will drop right onto it. 08+ they changed the frame horns up front and the older cabs wont set down on it without some major changes.

    Getting ready to undertake this exact same swap on my current daily I’ve done swap several times but I’m excited to see someone’s else’s take on it

      I did my first back in 2009 or 2010, I can’t remember. It’s my go to swap, and this one’s going to be a little bit different.

      I’m curious if you are going to swap to the 05 up master cylinder on this swap

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unlikely. When I do them on an OBS. I generally run the F-SD master. For an SD, I just use what it’s already got since the calipers are similar in size.

      Yep I usually go Hydroboost and fsuperduty master cylinder as well

    Nice info Garett, I didn’t know about the coil bucket being flat from 05-07. Nice work with the video!

    Hi Garret I’m currently doing this swap on my obs with a set of 05 axels. In the rear I’ve run into a few problems. There’s a stud in the rear shock mounts so I’m not sure how to tackle that in order to flip the shock mount around. And if cutting it off and welding one back on is my best option. Also the speed sensor is a different connector let me know if you have a good solution for those issues?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t worry about the locating pin on the axle. When you flip the shock bracket around, once you get it in the right spot and tighten it down. It’ll stay where I my is.
      Use you’re original VSS in the rear axle, not the 05+ one.

    What tools did you buy for the Pitman arm?

      I bought a snap on pitman arm pulled for these 05+ trucks.

    Great info, I just picked up a 97 CCSB 7.3 4x4 and I found a 06 rolling chassis for $1500. Am I better off to remove the parts necessary to do the axle swap or can I just put my OBS cab and bed on the 06 chassis?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MUCH better to remove the parts and put on the OBS frame. Nothing lines up with the frame from the body, so it makes it that much more work.

    Is there any information you have onnthe drive shafts? If you are swapping the same style like crew cab long bed to another crew cab long bed would the drive shafts mate perfectly?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      LOTS of factors. Especially depending on donor vs the one getting the parts. Transmission, transfer case, year of truck. Etc.

      @GarrettsOBSGarage 2002 crew cab long bed 4x4 to a let's say 2006 crew cab long bed 4x4. If you can find the exact same set up would the drive shafts be the same ? Thanks again for your previous reply. Big fan of your videos.

      @@justinguerrera8322 there is a possibility they are similar. I’m sorry I can’t give a definitive answer. Because there are lots of variables. You’d have to measure them and actually see

    I am in the market now to do this for my 1996, what would you consider a fair price for all these parts you just spoke about? Also, on the coil spring buckets, will they need to be spaced due to the narrower frame?

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some guys will tell you to space it out, and I am not a fan of it. Coil springs can adjust easily to angles, unlike the leaf springs, and spacing the buckets out with washers is unwise as it puts a lot more strain on the bolts. You'd have to make a plate to mount behind the whole bucket to achieve a correct spacing, and then you may run into issues bolting the bottom in. With that said, I've logged hundreds of thousands of miles on my original swap without any suspension related issues with no spacing. A rolling frame will tend to run you around $1,000 with steel wheels and junk tires with the bare essentials like a steering box and steering linkage. The price can vary from there, depending on whats included, or how clean it is. Granted, you may have to replace nothing, some things, or everything, once you get it in your possession, or installed with weight on it. As the 05-07 era is nearing 20 years old for the oldest setup, they are showing a lot of miles, or age, or abuse.

      On a obs I’d highly recommend using the 05 up brake hoses and rerunning the factory obs hard lines to them. Makes for much cleaner install

    The 05-07 frames have gussets on the back side of the engine crossmember. If you swap these axles into an earlier super duty do you find these necessary. I have see people swap the entire front section of the frame at the splice. What cons do you see with that approach? Thanks

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You’re correct. I haven’t found anything wrong with not doing it. As I’ve put some serious miles on a swapped truck. But guys want to add them in, and they are welcome to do such if they feel the need. The extra bracing does however interfere with fuel lines, brake lines, and wiring on an OBS. So, you will be modifying those to fit around the extra frame bracing.

    Are you normally able to buy a chassis like this at a junk yard? I have an 02 and would like to do this swap. Thanks

    • @GarrettsOBSGarage
      @GarrettsOBSGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes, it depends on the yard. I usually get the chassis from guys who part out trucks.
