Bro, the idea of refreshing the old reviews are golden. I have the same feelings about my tiny Donner B-1, at first i was like OK this is just basically the sequence player with some knobs... then i used it a synth, then as a midi-controller, then as a drum machine, the as a hardware sequencer, that as a sync shot hub, then as audio-in mixer... you know. Some thing can show you their better side only if you treat them well. Some doesn't (cough-cough Electribe Sampler). Thank you bro.
This channel made me buy a TB-3 😀 Then I download the Dope Robot editor and found all the lovely extra things it could do. Then I modified the Dope Robot editor to load and save patterns separately and a few other things so it worked more the way I wanted. I sent the changes back and they are now in the latest version. I feel like this is just how Roland works, releases something nobody wants or likes that much, and then in 10 years, people realise product X isn't a piece of crap and it becomes a staple piece of gear

I absolutely love mine and have used it for live shows and productions for years, such variety and options. Love the scatter for having fun with unique variations to patterns in real time. It’s great. The ONLY function that I wish was an option is: Midi pattern change via midi program change numbers. And it would truly utilize the machine to its fullest potential. I feel like this is the one function that fell through the cracks that would have made this unit unstoppable in so many more ways.. Everyone loves choosing patterns live,(including me) but to be able to change patterns through midi would have been the ultimate cake icing.. @@kaitlyn__L precisely why i asked. i noticed its use in this way (frequently) during the last several years. i usually interpret the word as it's defined (not as shorthand for an encapsulation of an idea) ... it just comes off as lazy / misuse (imo, of course)
@@Braunld tbh almost every language evolution occurs due to laziness/streamlining! That’s part of why I find etymology so fun. I’m just old enough that it doesn’t come naturally to me to actually say, but it doesn’t bother me to encounter. Perhaps because I witnessed the evolution, from “wow, the a e s t h e t i c is so strong” to just “aesthetic!”, yk? In some ways it’s a shorthand rather than a strict adjective-isation. So in summary, I don’t view it as altogether that different from when parents chided people for saying “cool bike!” rather than full sentences like “that’s such a cool bike you have there”. But of course you might not approve of that either :)
Hey @AudioPilz thanks for the shoutout! Don't even think I knew the sine wasn't affected by the filter! (although I did read on the internet one time you can't filter a sine) It's kinda freaky encountering someone else who knows this machine as well as I do, you even knew its two bugs!! Just kidding, that's awesome and happy to be helping TB-3 users out there get everything out of this super little box. Great video, you created a TB-3 character arc! Maybe the first synth to star in its own movie?!?
I am convinced that just about ANY synth can do incredible things if you just have the patience to really dive into it. You just have to quit lusting over gear, stay off yt and reverb and learn the damn thing in and out. They are pretty much all engineered by brilliant minds and you can 10x what any gear review vid can show you if you just stick with and LEARN the gear you have. Just remembee that limitations can breed innovation. If you think your gear is incapable, try to find another way. Don't just give up and move onto the next big fad.
"We don't chase Ghosts" They've done nothing but rerelease the digital versions of their classic synths for decades. LOL. Don't even get me started on what they've done to the Juno name.
Instantly this video is one of my favorites with my ownership of a TB-3 that I bought a couple of years ago without any prodding by anyone lol 😂 Even though I have not used it as much as I hoped, I still recognize its power and flexibility. I only knew of a couple of TB-3 editors and I will soon look and compare them to the ones I have installed. Your idea of having 2 TB-3s is very eye opening and I know that with the speed your video is being viewed that I better get in line for another one asap. Was there another model issued? I don’t remember seeing the step sequencer on mine even though I connected it within the past 2 weeks. Here are 2 ideas that came to me today while watching your video that you may wish to implement: Let your Patreon users know in advance the gear you will have upcoming episodes of before everyone else. 2. The same community could also share tracks with the same gear used while networking with each other. Thanks again for sharing this video and keep going strong! 💯🎯🎉👑
Holy shit this is awesome! I just picked up one of these yesterday. I first bought a TB-03 because I wanted a 303 and this was (in my eyes) the next best thing. After watching your videos and seeing you using the TB-3 almost all the time, I decided to get one. Glad I did! Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time.
Thanks for sharing the Dope Robot TB-3 editor. I've been looking an editor that makes programming the TB-3 easier. The only other TB-3 editor I heard about was developed a long time ago and is no longer available
TB3 is really awesome. The main reason why I sold the unit was the release of enormous amounts of tb 303 clones so the acid sounds were everywhere and I felt like it was killing uniqueness of my sound design. I am seriously thinking of getting tb3 once again after this episode.
This is insane. Truly insane. I have 3 of these. Maybe 4 of them, not sure exactly but at least 3. I used to pick these up for a couple hundred pretty easy locally because no one wanted them. Recently I noticed that prices locally were stupid high. I mean, I saw one for $700, even messaged the guy with a "WTF?". Anyway, I just looked at Reverb price history. This video came out in what, Feb or March 2024? I'm looking at Reverb price history right now (street prices don't lie), and prices jumped in March from very standard $200-$250 to almost double. I mean this quite literally. Last 2 year Reverb history shows numerous sales, like MANY of them, at $200-$250, then average price in March is $382, then average price in April $460, then average price in May just shy of $500, then in June and July back down to $400, then $375 in August so far. I don't think there's any explanation other than your presence. That's insane that you have this much power over the market. I don't think that's a good thing if I'm being honest.
Local shop offered me to take TB3 home to give it a proper test, and I returned them back money in couple of days 😅 Its built quite well, took it to many live sets and didn't have any issues with it. Also, performance features like pattern octave/slide randomization is very handy during live sets to make changes on the fly
Love this! Both the ep and the TB-3. I love mine, and I can’t be the only person here who was motivated a little bit to buy it by the OG BG ep, and the fairly obvious subsequent backsliding…
Ever since you aired this video, the used prices for the TB-3 has skyrocketed! I’ve been keeping tabs on the sales of the TB-3 on Reverb (and elsewhere) and have noticed a correlation between your video and the increased demand and value of the TB-3. I’m curious as to if the TB-3 will follow suit with the history of the TB-303, becoming just as highly sought-after over time. One seller in particular is definitely capitalizing on the rarity of the TB-3 with an asking price of $2,587.67. Just, wow! The TB-3 is another example of a badass, overlooked Roland synth that really flew under the radar. It’s quite fascinating to observe this realization happening in real-time.
Pilz single handedly shaping the resale market at this point. but fr tho you make a good argument. i dont do hardware, but if i did, i would wanna pick one up now.

Finally! You did it! And what a great review. Many thanks!
Thank you so much!!!
I had one (greeny tb3) for a few years and really did enjoy it. Once I got my Elecktron A4 (the OG version used on eBay :)… I sold the tb3 with no regrets. The A4 should get a Bad Gear video… it doesn’t seem to get much love…. but makes beautiful sounds and noises:)
Great suggestion, thanks!!!
An AudiPilz signature TB-3 would be amazing. I'll take 3 please.
You should totally make a series about synths and other music gear from wish and all those sites there’s some hilariously bad stuff and I think people would love it
Great idea, thanks!!!
Speed reading is a skill I’ve developed specifically from watching your videos.
No one mentions how super groovy and release-ready the “jam” is at 03:50 😮 It sounds so professional and aesthetic. Would love to have a breakdown of how you did this if you have the time for that!
Just a few TR samples from the Digitakt (606, 808, 909), a Jomox MBase 11 preset for the kick and two sequences from the TB3s. Levelling in Ableton.
is the word "aesthetic" an adjective ?
@@Braunldit has been among gen z and younger millennials for at least 5 years (short for aesthetically pleasing/captivating)
Ok Im gonna get this, I've wanted one for years, this just seals the deal, thanks AudioPilz!!
Nice, happy to hear that!!! Thanks!
Please do a "good gear" video with the Yamaha RS7000, the best machine ever :)
Great idea, thanks!!!
Where is the intro?
It's not Bad Gear (the intro music of the original episode is in the outro tho;)
I really like the new video formats you’re producing now, keep them coming.
Thank you!!!
I cannot subscribe to this way of thinking.
Ima be honest. Homies been going ham on this thing since I discovered his channel.
😀😀😀
"We don't chase Ghosts" They've done nothing but rerelease the digital versions of their classic synths for decades. LOL. Don't even get me started on what they've done to the Juno name.
Yeah, the Goddess Juno will have her revenge;)
I worked for the big R when this was released. Lent it out to someone I don’t remember years ago and miss it. Whoever you are, I want it back. 😢
"patterns are easy if you're used to the 303"
Sorry God, I am not worthy🙏
❤️❤️❤️
That controller is brilliant.
Agreed!
Instantly this video is one of my favorites with my ownership of a TB-3 that I bought a couple of years ago without any prodding by anyone lol 😂
Even though I have not used it as much as I hoped, I still recognize its power and flexibility.
Thank you!!! Actually Patrons get a warning every Monday;)
I use my Tb3 as a sequencer to monologue when more than 16 steps needed. 256 steps x 8. Super machine
Nice technique!!!
Nice, thank you!!!
Lol everyone looks on eBay and they increase by 400%😅
...and I want a third one;)
@@AudioPilz 😂 and I thought you were GAS proof 😂😂😂🙌
Jeps.....offers are a 245 euro for one.
9:19 whoa 🤯 😅 this sound is sinister!!
😀😀😀
Thanks for sharing the Dope Robot TB-3 editor. I've been looking an editor that makes programming the TB-3 easier. The only other TB-3 editor I heard about was developed a long time ago and is no longer available
TB3 is really awesome. The main reason why I sold the unit was the release of enormous amounts of tb 303 clones so the acid sounds were everywhere and I felt like it was killing uniqueness of my sound design. I am seriously thinking of getting tb3 once again after this episode.
Definitely explore the upper banks of the unit then
It looks like it has the engine from the system1 with extra bits for x-y control. Sounds just as good as well 👍🏻
Thank you! Have to explore a bit :)
Delightful. That first jam had me harking back to the days of The Grid's Rollercoaster.
We need your full jams on a playlist :)
Welcome to unique gear, the show where we ask ourselves "What so special about this peace of kit" good or bad, what really makes this shine 😂
So wholesome;)
Ok. I'll hear you out.
❤️❤️❤️
Saw the title. Immediately bought one second hand before the prices go crazy.
Wise choice!!!
I know, it's crazy...
Just like you, It's a piece of "Bad Gear" so nice.... I had to buy it twice!
Still one of my favorites in my setup. Have a great weekend Florian!
Nice, thank you!!!
that thing is frickin beautiful IMO
❤️❤️❤️
I think this had the best vocoder shout out yet 😂
I'm gonna personally fill the internet with negative comments about lyra-8 so you'd make a bad gear episode about it!
Wait for it;)
A "Bad Gear Redemption" series would be dope
- How many 303 clones do you need?
- Yes.
Why not both
Who doesn't love a redemption arc? And it will be ... intriguing to hear your "good gear" reviews.
Thank you so much!!!
Welcome to *RAD Gear!* 👏
RAD AF!!!
I like to think this video was inspired by my comment recommending a redemption episode for this synth last week!
I love it, I sold a lot of tech gear as I’m more into Country Rock, But no way would I would part with my beloved TB-3s
Local shop offered me to take TB3 home to give it a proper test, and I returned them back money in couple of days 😅
Its built quite well, took it to many live sets and didn't have any issues with it.
Also, performance features like pattern octave/slide randomization is very handy during live sets to make changes on the fly
Nice!!!
Love this! Both the ep and the TB-3. I love mine, and I can’t be the only person here who was motivated a little bit to buy it by the OG BG ep, and the fairly obvious subsequent backsliding…
Thank you!!!
I have two of these and wanted another. This episode is single handed responsible for tripling and quadroupling the price of these 😂😂🤦🏻♂️ see Reverb.
Just bought a third one;)
I just got a third one;)
@@AudioPilz Sweet😁🤙 Can’t wait to see you do a jam with all three. That’ll be great!
Pilz single handedly shaping the resale market at this point. but fr tho you make a good argument. i dont do hardware, but if i did, i would wanna pick one up now.
Maybe wait a few weeks until the smoke has settled;)
