In this video I pull the engine and transmission from my 1985 ASC McLaren Coupe. The frame rust is bad but nothing will stop me from driving this car again.
Ford had return lines on that fuel pump. It's an emissions thing. It also runs about 3lbs higher than a "standard" fuel pump. The correct model is still available from NAPA. The stock heads are hurting you much more than that Performer 289. Swap out to three-bar heads for factory reliability and better flow. 600 CFM is PLENTY for that in a street car. Go to 650, you get volume, lose velosity.
You have some really nice ASC Coupes. This one came to me in 1990 already with some really hard miles on it. I should have the frame fixed up before the winter comes here and will likely get the body completed in the spring.

That poor, poor Coupe! It's live a pretty rough 61K miles. None of mine ever saw a Michigan winter for these very reasons.
