- ECU is proud to celebrate Pride Month this November to show our continued support for LGBTQIA+ staff, students, alumni and the wider community, and to reinforce our longstanding commitment to equity and inclusion. Additionally, November 18 is the International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths).
Hear from staff in our School of Science talk about what being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community means to them as scientists at ECU. This video features Professor Marnie Campbell (Executive Dean), Dr Sean Buckley (Lecturer in Molecular Ecology and Environmental Management), Nick Fimognari (Research Assistant), and was produced by Cass Rowles (Outreach & Engagement Coordinator), all of whom identify as part of the rainbow community.
We each play a role in ensuring ECU is a safe and inclusive place for all. In addition to our commitment to LGBTQIA+ communities through ECU’s Equity and Inclusion Plan, LGBTQIA+ Ally Network, LGBTQIA+ Staff Network, engagement with Pride Inclusion Programs and our internal Rainbow Matters SharePoint site, Pride Month provides the perfect opportunity to learn and engage with LGBTQIA+ events and initiatives that will help us foster a sense of belonging and inclusion all year round.
ECU acknowledges and respects the Noongar people, Australia’s first scientists and the custodians of the lands upon which our campuses stand and operate, and where this video was made.
