Skydio has world leading obstacle avoidance, which they can still use to compete with DJI - yet they choose to back out of the consumer market while lobbying. As a DJI fan, I would have 100% bought a foldable Sykdio 3 with just 30 minutes of battery life and 5km range (Skydio 2 was $999 USD, around 20 minutes battery life, 2km range, not foldable) - not even asking for DJI's level of 45 minutes of battery life and 20km of range.
Even DJI haters have to admit that their drones are the best at that price, the only way to block them is to find excuses related to national security.
How does a tariff make sense? The American companies that invest in China would just sell to other markets instead of the US. Making stuff in the US is simply not economical no matter which market you sell to.
