    the world is on a recession, if you check what is happening to the industry in general it makes sense. If people didnt buy psrvr2 with Gran turismo , RE and call of the mountain I believe the reason is the price, and also not knowing how amazing it is. I bought mine with guilt because it is expensive but now after trying it I think it was cheap.

    • @PetrifyingPumpkins
      @PetrifyingPumpkins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the hardware I'm sure it's reasonably priced, I understand that eye tracking tech is not cheap. But to the average consumer they see it as being a peripheral that's more expensive than the console and their psychological response is that that isn't right. Regardless of the tech inside unfortunately.

    1) Sony hasn't mentioned PS Portal sales either, and there hasn't been much marketing. But we know it's been sold out. Lack of publicized stats doesn't imply anything.
    2) Its the start of 2024, and there are 60+ games already announced for PSVR2, with Astro rumoured. If we don't see further big announcements in 2024, then we can talk.
    3) The media was SCREAMING for PC PSVR1/2 support for the last 8 years, and now it's being seen as a sign of weakness.
    I think the media is, once again, dumping on PSVR, and dragging others into the doom and gloom. This has been going on for almost a decade. The goalposts keep shifting. What's good for another vendor (eg. Meta) is bad for Sony. Sony has 7 exclusives (5 which are top tier) in its first year and 130+ games, but it strangely "doesn't have games".

    • @PetrifyingPumpkins
      @PetrifyingPumpkins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1. Portal isn't it's own platform with its own titles. It plays all PS5 games so never has to worry about support.
      2. Rumours aren't going to sell headsets. 60 games with most of them being Quest ports that don't take full advantage of the PSVR2/PS5 hardware isn't enough for me.
      3. I haven't seen many scream for PCVR support in the media, but I haven't seen many call it a weakness yet either. But maybe they are.
      I agree that the media in general will just crap on PSVR2 regardless. Year 1 was amazing and they pretended it wasn't.

    • @SeanLumly
      @SeanLumly 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PetrifyingPumpkins
      1. That's true, but it suggests that lack of statistic reporting is not a sign of health.
      2. I get that. Many users are suggesting that PS5 has also had too little marketing, and have fears for exclusives. This seems to be the way Playstation was being marketed in general. The last few weeks has seen a significant uptick in marketing and announcements for PSVR2.
      3. The original PSVRs weakness was seen to be a lack of PC support, and it was heavily discussed at the start of PSVR2 (the claim of "screaming" was a bit too emphatic for PSVR2, but fitting for PSVR1). The media advocated for this, particularly because (at the time) PSVR2 had a high resolution, OLED, and foveated rendering, and the best PCVR had was Index: an aging VR headset.
      I agree. Year 1 PSVR2 was actually insane if you put it into perspecitve.
      It's clear that Quest is the darling, and PSVR is the unwanted child. Only PSVR influencers talked much about RE4, it was largely ignored, and was one of 2023's biggest releases. But it's easy to find information about Quest OS updates...

    • @PetrifyingPumpkins
      @PetrifyingPumpkins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SeanLumly Yknow I'm not even convinced the Portal has sold that well. I know it was sold out a lot but do we know how many were produced? The Steam Deck got a lot of praise and was often sold out too but I remember being surprised at how little it has actually sold. Sony like to brag about sales when they're impressive.

    • @SeanLumly
      @SeanLumly 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PetrifyingPumpkins Yeah, being sold out doesn't imply selling well.
      But you raise a VERY IMPORTANT point that is relevant here: the general "feelings" about something in media or user conversation, doesn't necessarily reflect the reality surrounding it! This is so often the case.
      Even the PS5 is selling in record numbers, fans loving Spiderman 2, Helldivers, etc, and Sony is at the same time, reporting profitability problems to shareholders.
      People think the majority of XBox's ABK acquisition revenue was from consoles/pc, but their balance sheet suggests its from mobile devices.
      We have to wait for impartial information to make reasonable judgements: we shouldn't lean into our intuitions too much...

    • @PetrifyingPumpkins
      @PetrifyingPumpkins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SeanLumly true but I'm not solely relying on Sony's silence. I think when you combine it with those Amazon holiday sales that show Quest 2/3 outselling PSVR2 by a rate of 30:1, it's difficult to believe it's selling well. You also have indie devs shying away from it now with Rec Room devs saying no and the Contractors devs refusing to say yes.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sony published that crappy game, and I'm betting FCE asked them for more time to improve it before launch. Sony, through budget approval and milestone payments, likely had a lot to do with it launching in the state it did. They would also be the company to decide whether it'd have a public beta or not (at least if FCE asked). They also killed it after only a few months, even though the game had been improving.
      Some of the issues were definitely caused by out-of-touch design decisions from FCE, but Sony don't get to wash their hands of many of FWU's failures and its ultimate demise.

I think a price cut is out of the question until at least 6 months after they can get that pcvr infrastructure. Similar thing happened to the PS Vita. Strong support from 1st and 3rd parties in the first year that fell off quickly after that. Vita is still remembered fondly due to the many smaller profile titles in subsequent years. The original PSVR never really had strong AAA support but still went on to have a lode of great smaller experiences. I probably have 100 titles for the original.

  • @GreyMatterShades
    @GreyMatterShades 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yes, a price cut is desperately needed, as is some sort of statement about their future support for the headset. They don't even need to lay out a roadmap, just make a vague general statement about how many games they have in production with VR support (they've done similar statements about new IP and Live Service games), or how many games they're "partnering with" (paying) other studios to bring to VR.
    Another thing that'd help massively with the public's perception of Sony's lack of support for PSVR 2 is... ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT HOW THEY'RE SUPPORTING IT! Most people don't know Sony paid Capcom for the two RE VR ports, or that they funded Synapse, and partially funded Switchback, and paid for the final year of Legendary Tales' development, and helped finance a bunch of the other indie games that've come to PSVR 2. To the uninformed consumer (or games journalist), it just looks like Sony made 1 VR game and ported 1 year-old game to VR at the headset's launch, then abandoned the hardware for the rest of the year, with no sign they're ever coming back. That's really not a good look, and it could be dispelled SO EASILY! Sony's utter incompetence in how they're handling this is absolutely mind-boggling.
    Hopefully there's some big announcements today. It needs them. I'm happy for anyone who's enjoying their PSVR 2. It seems like there are plenty of games to play once you have one. But the current lineup of games isn't drawing in a big enough audience at this price point. Maybe it'd be good enough if the headset cost $450. Only one way to find out!
    As for Hybrid games, I agree they're a big draw, and make a lot of economic sense. The only issue is when the VR version comes out 9 months after the flat release, a lot of players are already done with the game. If they've never tried VR before, they won't be enticed to buy a headset to re-play a game they've already played to death because they don't understand how VR would enhance the experience. The closer to the initial release, the better.
    To that end, I think Sony should have asked Capcom to skip RE Village VR and work on getting VR support in RE4 Remake when it launched. It would've moved more headsets that way, instead of getting two VR modes for two games that most players had already put back on the shelf. They could've always gone back to add VR support to Village afterward.
    Personally I think spinoff games have more potential to draw people into VR, because they're unique to the medium. They can also be made for less money than a comparable quality unique game since they can utilize assets from flat releases in the franchise. They would cost more than hybrids though. Maybe a happy medium would be if companies added some unique VR content to hybrid games, sort of a Hybrid+ model. It wouldn't have to be much, maybe just a level or two, or a few sequences during the main game with gameplay unique to VR. Now I'm really dreaming though. We don't even have enough hybrids and I'm asking for companies to go beyond even that... 🤣

    • @PetrifyingPumpkins
      @PetrifyingPumpkins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with most of this. I'd nearly argue though that the addition of motion controls to hybrid games like RE4/8 almost feel like additional content, and almost make those games feel like they were built for VR in the first place to a degree.

  • @tshuxeng5267
    @tshuxeng5267 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    sony could easily have all ps5 games available in vr at extra cost and the psvr2 will thrive.... yes hybrid is a no Brainer at this point... whe will sony figure that out?

    • @PetrifyingPumpkins
      @PetrifyingPumpkins  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well it would definitely be an additional cost as it's not as simple as dragging and dropping a VR file into the game somewhere. RE4 took Capcom about 9 months of dev time. But they should be doing more for sure.

    Today, they have announced the PSVR2 will be getting compatible with PCVR later this year. They also have two new 2-3P (Edit from 4P) co-op games announced with one of them releasing today (The Wizards - Dark Times: Brotherhood) and the other being a popular IP (Zombie Army VR) coming soon. Arizona Sunshine 2 has new free DLC today, plus roadmap of new horde mode maps over next three months that will all be free as well.
    There is also expectation that PS5 Pro will be releasing later this year, so for higher-fidelity VR, you won't have to us high-end PCVR with your PSVR2 headset.
    Don't have expectation of games that cost more than $100 million like PS5 gets and enjoy the games that are coming to PSVR2. There are plenty, and they are great fun.

      The wizard game is 3 player coop and Zombie Army is 2 player. The DLC for AS2 today is a dog skin. No hybrids, no first party and no price cut. The PC thing is interesting, but won't really benefit current owners, not in the short term at least.

      @@PetrifyingPumpkins I just assumed 4P. I read the blog post more carefully and you are correct that Wizards is 3P and Zombie Army is 2P.
      I have one brother I play these types of games with, so 2P is what is good enough for me.
      The main benefit of PC thing is that it takes one strength pillar out of the Quest vs PSVR2 FUD pieces.

      The Metro franchise is but will Metro Awakening be? Vertigo Games have been more of a AA studio so far. Maybe they make the leap to AAA with Awakening but I'm not convinced of it just yet.

    Psvr2 is killing it, some people so negative towards it. Its like Ghostbusters 2 theres a sludge around the world. We need the Ghostbusters to put on some music and get the statue of liberty walking around blaring music to make people happy again.

      @@PetrifyingPumpkinsif you are really worried about the 600 pricetag you should consider always staying a generation behind in gaming. You can pick up a Psvr1 and a heap of games for dirt cheap. You can see the catalogue as a whole too. Leave it to others to role the dice as may come up snake eyes.

    The low sales of the hardware feels like it must have doomed this device. Whatever plans sony and biggerdevs had must have changed when reality set in. A million headsets has to be far fewer than even the least optimistic amongst us expected.
    The people responsible for the money bags at the large studios would not sign off on PSVR2 exclusives, maybe not even hybrid stuff… They’re in it to make money and they go where money can be made.
    Tbh I’ve written off this whole generation of consoles. PS5 and Xbox have been a huge bummer this gen, and we’re like 2-3 years away from the next consoles… the ps5 has peaked, and that seems CRAZY to me.. the big studios are now making games for the ps6 that comes out in 3 years… They’ve likely worked on ps6 games for a year already…
    Sony should do the only reasonable thing and make a standalone XR headset to compete with the quest. The more I play standalone, the less sense PCVR and console VR makes. Graphics are cool and all, but all this power really doesn’t translate into bigger games.. just better lighting and textures. Contractors Showdown runs on the quests and is a bigger game than anything that exists out there right now, regardless of platform. I think people just need to accept that VR isn’t gonna look gorgeous and that standalone headsets around 500 bucks is where it’s at. The market sure seems to indicate that.
    Make the PSPVR Sony… Make it standalone and compatible with the ps5 and ps6. Do eeeet! C’maaahn, doo eeeet!

      Zero proof the big studios are making games for PS6. GTA 6 is coming next year for current gen. Sony has many games in development for PS5 and is releasing a Pro version this year. In a generation where Elden Ring and Baldurs Gate 3 came out, we are doing fine.

      Sony has nobody to blame but themselves for the low hardware sales. They put out an expensive piece of hardware 2 months after the holidays, with almost no marketing, and it wasn't even available at most retailers or websites in some of the biggest gaming markets. You had to buy it off Sony's obscure website. Then there's the fact that Sony never announced ANY support for it beyond launch, and they still haven't spoken about supporting it, which is INSANE because they actually are. In addition to paying Capcom for the two RE ports, they funded Synapse, co-funded Switchback, and have put funding into a bunch of indie games including Legendary Tales. They just don't talk about it, which gives the impression that they abandoned it right after launch.
      But to be fair, the money bags at the large studios were never going to sign off on PSVR 2 exclusives or even hybrids. Sony would have to pay them for that content unless/until the install base got to the point where there was an economic case for them to do it without Sony's funding, and that'd take Quest 2 level numbers, which would always be a stretch for a headset that's dependent on external hardware.
      Sony isn't going to make a standalone headset because they don't want to have to split their first-party developers between two different devices. They're already having enough trouble putting out enough big first-party titles for PS5 to satisfy that audience. Splitting off first-party developers to support a standalone headset makes zero sense for Sony. Not to mention that they couldn't afford to subsidize it the way Meta is their Quest headsets, so they still wouldn't be able to compete on the basis of price/features.
