I am insanely excited to relive my childhood through DCS. I need to download the Gunship 2000 MIDI soundtrack from someplace.
For me, in terms of Gunship 2000, I preferred the soundtrack on the PS1 port of that game. Definitely gonna be blasting that. That and the Base Music from Longbow 1 haha

Since the off position starts with the MMS facing backwards. Does that mean you can slew it all the way to look back ? If not. How far can the MMS look to the sides ?
It has 190 deg rotation.
Most memorable write up I had to work on in Afghanistan was "MMS does not work in O.F.F. position" I had to ask the pilot what precisely he thought OFF position meant. "Official obviously" he said.
did you add a label on the button 'MMS does work with this switch set to this position: feature, not defect'
@@richardhockey8442 No, but I did the next best thing, print out the section of the manual pertaining to the operation modes and highlighted OFF for him.

Flipping switches and turning knobs is quite a bit easier on my poor little brain than multiple MFDs with menus and submenus…

Hey Casmo. Can you explain why a scout helo would be deployed to actively engage targets when you have other assets that you could call in? I'm assuming there are any number of scenarios possible. I guess what I'm asking is why wouldn't you just have an apache hit targets?...
I know you’re asking a legit question but it comes from a place of a lot of missing context.
How about this- why aren’t all cars actually semi trucks? They can travel just as far, they can carry more stuff and people… so why don’t we all just drive semi trucks? When you dissect that question and come to an answer, try and modify that answer to fit your original question. Hope this helps.

For any IRL kiowa pilots, did the copilot using their cyclic to interact with the mms ever interfere with pilot flying? I assume the cyclics are interconnected.

Yep, zoom
Offset acquire/track also used to correct/adjust hit spot to minimize overspill/underspill and increase Pk for the engagement.
IRL, I would've adjusted to the cab area to improve likelihood of target destruction vs the chance of the missile puching through the bed and impacting the ground instead of critical structure of the vehicle.
I don't know how DCS models damage, but I have already seen videos of HF and APKWS misses due to accepting point track as putting the laser on target.

acquire on the move says it can mark up to 6 targets... how do you switch between them! doing as manual says only lock on to one and will not move to next

Casmo does the kiowa have some sort of weight on skids to prevent the weapons from fring on the ground? , and what about the laser on the sight? Can that be fired from the ground?

can the KW buddy lase for fixed wing aircraft like A-10s if it needs to or is the buddy lasing capability only for hellfire equipped vehicles like the apache?
Any weapon with a laser code western style, GBU-10/12, laser maverick, apkws, etc.

Can the pilot narrow the view?
I understand the whole concept behind the combat ready series and how the goal is not to overload people and to just give them a picked and chosen selection of key info so that they can jump straight in.
But there is a few cases where i would really like it to be explained a little bit deeper. Stuff like first versus last on the laser and how this might affect things.
You know the stuff where you point out that it exists and then kind of just say "we're not really going to get into that because its just kind of a niche and most people won't ever use it".
I dont know but that just makes me incredibly curious. Would you ever consider (after the main combat ready series' for an aircraft are over) doing some videos that talk about those niche systems and functions that everyone glances over? There are a lot of people like me who would live to know how or why these things work.
Maybe one day but I’m certain that “for instance” isn’t modeled in DCS
@@CasmoTV yeah definitely get that. A lot of stuff just flat out doesn't do anything but it does still leave me curious as to why it existed in the airframe and what the theory behind the system was.

Was the Kiowa the first rotary wing platform to have a mask mounted sensor? Apache didn’t have anything till the D variant in the high 90’s right? Didn’t know the Kiowa was such a pioneer, noice!!

Just so curious now, how much of the Kiowa played a role in forming the modern JTAC.
What I always wanted to know is what is up with those helmets completely covering the lower part of the face. It's often seen worn by Blackhawk crews as well.

since the mms has no lasersearch/track, have you a hellfire seeker indication (like in the apache) if it picks up a (buddy)lasercode?
That laser offset trick is awesome. Any idea if that was the intended use, or as it designed to just kind of allow you to keep an eye on one target and then pop quickly over to another one nearby?
Area track is the “ ground stabilize” mentioned in other videos right?

I can't seem to get point track or area track to do anything. No box around the target, no brackets, nothing. Also is there a ground stabilize for trying to spot on the move?

@@CasmoTV I'll keep trying I guess, but I feel like I'm missing something because neither one of them does anything for me. Can't see or think of any steps I'd be missing, it's pretty straight forward from what I can tell.

Just FYI, when someone records VR gameplay, they are typically recording the mirror display that’s rendered on the 2D screen and has the same clarity as 2D gameplay. Unless I misunderstood what you meant by clarity
