Good call on building it yourself. I am a hobby luthier and it is great fun, plus you really bond with the instrument. If you haven’t found Stewmac and Luthiers Mercantile yet, they are two good sources for quality parts. 🤘
Mid to late 80’s was the best time to purchase Gibson and fender guitars , very few wanted them because the didn’t have stripes and Floyd roses and the were cheap used . I’ve got a 72 strat and a 81 Gibson les Paul custom both were under 800 at the time .
My local luthier Ake Bjornstad(Gothenburg,Sweden) posted a beautiful single cut that was destined for USA customer..not as "special" as the "Bush Shoes" but really nice enough to make you forget the "sandbox debate" on Gibson..
If you are a Les Paul guy and you are looking for a handbuilt guitar check Mensinger and Maybach guitars in europe. They are not cheap but 100% handbuilt.
I agree 100%. I doubt very many rock stars paid for the guitars they play. That's cheap advertising for them. I wonder how much Apple pays TV and movie producers for using iphones in their productions and we get to listen to that iphone ring tone that I hate.
I agree with gibson being too much money. Epiphone and squiers are great guitars and are made of the same woods as their parent companies, people dont do their research. I have a sg epi thats made of the same wood from gibson! And the pickups are what they use to put in les pauls, Guitar was only 135$
Buy a kit and build it will give you some idea of the work involved. But buy all the woods they use and build completely from scratch you give you a lot to do.
Danny, I think the best option for you is Warmoth Guitars. Go to their website and TH-cam channel. You will get the exact guitar you want. How do I know that…because they will build it exactly the way you ask. From the headstock to the strap buttons, you tell them what to do. Since you want an LP style body, theirs is called Regal. I think I’ve mentioned Warmoth to you when I showed you Darrell Braun’s channel about another LP alternative.
you are still killing me with these! also just because you per say would buy a gibson lp... does not mean it is set up or will not need one! plus look at their quality control. Love the rants!
All these collectors don't play music with these ultra-expensive "unique" instruments. So, instrument's contribution to the music legacy is practically 0. Waste of resources.
So true! Last year I built a tele style guitar with all quality parts. The body and neck were from Warmouth, CTS pots, Gotoh locking tuners, Monty’s pickups, ect. It cost me $1400 and it is a great guitar. My friend has a Fender custom shop 63 Telecaster and my parts guitar sounds better. He paid over $4000 for his guitar. This is stupid!
They say the nitro cellulose finishes on vintage guitars are more brittle allowing the guitar to resonate more. What I say? Calling BS on that my friend . Keep up the good work , Gibson should hire you as a " Reality Check Consultant" !
6 and 5 figure price guitars are for rich people, many are bought as a luxury investment that will typically retain value or increase value, what's is the cost difference off a can of Monster energy drink vs bottled or tap water? I would not buy a 6-figure guitar if I were wealthy unless I was insured a return on my investment.
Haha you think like me Danny. I've bought a lot of cheaper guitars over the years and just do the work myself as well. I figure buying the tools is an investment and over a lot of guitars, more than pay for themselves. I can understand that if someone famous played it, then the values going to be increased just because of that player. The high second hand market value of Gibson's (and Fenders for that matter), it's crazy. They're used guitars and should be priced accordingly. And just because it's an old guitar, doesn't mean it's worth more. Some of those old guitars were dogs to play - hence why they were offloaded. I remember back in the late 80's/early 90's when you couldn't give a Gibson away as everyone was buying PRS (because they were so much better). Wow, how times have changed. I also can't understand that relic'ing crap were they charge extra for a guitar that looks like it was never cared for. I own plenty of guitars and each still looks brand new for the ones I bought new. The second handers still have scuffs though. I do miss the pre-internet times when you could walk into any pawn shop and pick up unknown guitars cheap. Now with the internet, they all can find out what people are willing to pay from previous sales. But I suppose by the same token, it's easier to obtain particular guitars by searching. BTW Check out www.artistguitars.com.au - they're great bang for buck. They've also got a US site too (www.artist-guitars.com). I use them as a base for projects all the time as it works out cheaper for me and the hassle ordering from Thomann (if you're after standard strat, tele, LP shaped guitars).
thanks for the link. about if famous ppl play it, to me, it isnt worth any more or less than actual price of the wooden thing with metal bits.. because its not like I get to keep angus in a basement to play for me at my whim.. total brainwashing baloney, like how PRS got some "acutally stained by paul" guitars....
I’m a 25 year old who makes okay money not great and I have a 2022 Gibson Les Paul standard 50’s and I love it. I’ve had a few Gibsons I’ve had no trouble selling (most were sg’s) but I love Gibson guitars. Growing listening to my favorite bands they all used either Les Pauls or SG’s I’ve had many epiphones and they were very good guitars but I didn’t feel much when playing it. Everyone has their own opinions. In my opinion I think fender strats and teles feel very cheap and I don’t think the American ones are any better than the Mexican ones or even any of the latest high end squires. So personally I think some Gibsons are worth the money. Maybe not the custom shop though.
Guitar makers and sellers will charge as much as the market will stand, and as you have said people are like sheep, they believe all the hype around a certain must have product or brand without ever checking that what they are buying is a good product. If You search on TH-cam, without fail all the big reveiwers get the latest must have product for free, hype it to the hilt, and within hours they have sold out, then the greedy ones sell their free sample at way above full retail price. A fool and his money are easily parted, but you have more sense Danny. Just keep looking for your dream guitar, as this recession takes hold there will be plenty to choose from at more sensible prices.
I love you Danny I'm 56 and sick of the lies lies lies about everything and to see your fellow man dumb as a boot is disheartening but you are a breath of absolutely hilarious content oh my goodness I 🤣 lmao thank you can you evaluate a Yamaha revstar line ?
A guitar should cost £1500 at most and probably less. There might be exceptions if the fretboard is made from dodo beaks, hen's teeth, unicorn tail etc. The real money is in labour and materials not magic. A good guitar can be built for £1000 so any more would need pricier materials.
The first guitar I ever played was my father's 1952 Les Paul. It was a 100% original guitar in fantastic condition. Unfortunately it was a terrible guitar. The best way to describe it is "a log with frets". Dull and lifeless sounding guitar. He traded it on a pair of really nice guitars and amp that we still play today. No regrets. Some sucker probably has Dad's old Les Paul hanging in a collection of other useless guitars. Collectors are strange rich people with nothing better to do than buy things to brag about. My opinion.
I built a partscaster tele and spared no expense, it cost roughly 1100.00 and I love it. I also bought a Gibson Les Paul special for 1500. Great guitar! Wraparound bridge, p90s, hard shell case. While I agree that vintage guitars are crazy money, anything built in America will still be pushing 2000. if it’s quality. I love the show!
A TH-camr I watch was reviewing a rickenbacher like harley benton guitar and some commentor was going on a tangent about the superiority of Ricks and how true rick players will make fun of you for playing a fake. It's cultish if you ask me!
People are like that, I do know what it is officially called, but they need to find their sense of self worth through exterior means... and when confronted with reality, they will do alot to defend their stance...
I think it’s hilarious that this guy keeps kicking Gibson in the groin, on every video! No, really it’s really funny…especially the episode where he trashes Mark I. their marketing guy! Ahahaha….
But you have to understand some guitars are just investments, you buy them for 40.000 this year and you sell them for 50.000 next year, why are some pieces of art so expensive? Or a Pokemon card? They stop being considered musical instruments and just a collectors piece
I have owned two Gibsons in the past, a mid-sixties Melody Maker and an early-seventies Les Paul Deuxe. The Melody Maker was a cheap piece of garbage, with noisy, weak single coil pickups and you could barely hear the high E string when you played it. The Les Paul was one of those cheapos with the multi-layer pancake bodies and mini humbuckers that sound like crap. I don't miss either of these guitars. The guitars I have now are much better in terms of tone, playability and quality of fit and finish. I like Agile singlecuts and Ibanez Artists. With a good setup and new strings these guitars are light years better than the vintage Gibsons I had years ago. I think the only thing better about old guitars was that some of them had nicer quality wood. But in every other way--quality, consistency, electronics, tone, playability, fit and finish--I much prefer newer guitars. Let other people pay top dollar for some Gibsons just because they are old. Give me a new or gently-used Agile or Ibanez very time!
I may start another Debate... Danny, Perhaps another topic for your vids... Why is everyone these days having "Signature Models" Made out there?? I Can see Maybe a Slash Or an Eric Johnson, But there are people I haven't even Heard of getting A signature Model. Wait a week and Someone else will have a signature Model. Wait Danny, Maybe in a month at this rate you will have a signature Model out there too. I remember you may see One or two Signature Models come out in a Year, Now it seems like once a week and what criteria is there to for someone to Have a signature Model made for them for Petes sakes. Some of these people I haven't even heard of........ What's up with that??
I think i know.. it is a money grab.. it cost them nothing to just label a guitar a name, and the fans of such and such would eat it all up... pure profit!
Gibson was Bankrupt recently until Epiphone Guitars saved them🤔they went down the drain for a reason. no one buys them😂 until the boomer fanbois used their retirement tokeep it relevant.
I think you actually need to be a accomplished guitar player before you tell someone what constitutes a good instrument, and even then it is a totally only your opinion and not fact.
The Epiphone Les Paul is every bit as good as the Gibson Les Paul . The Gibson will cost more than 4 times more money but its not a better Les Paul but its a more expensive . The Gibson has an inferior finish .
Epiphonys are not every bit as good as Gibsons, they are just as crappy as Gibsons. Why keep giving money to a company that rips off its customers and sues competitors?
The Epiphone models that gibson makes, If they made gibsons like that, I would never have started complaining about them but they need to be half the price. Gibson's inspired by epiphones are much better than gibson gibsons because: lesser angle of the neck, scarf joint, durable finish, more practical bridge design, and none of that stupid nubs at the end of the frets!
According to what I found on the internet, an offer for the ORIGINAL BUSH SHOES was made in the amount of 10 MILLION DOLLARS......
And then...how to dodge flying "Bush Shoes" lessons!
Finally someone in the guitar community who isn't hallucinating and can see things for what they really are. New subscriber
thank you!!!!!
danny these videos are truly amazing and i enjoy them sm
Good call on building it yourself. I am a hobby luthier and it is great fun, plus you really bond with the instrument. If you haven’t found Stewmac and Luthiers Mercantile yet, they are two good sources for quality parts. 🤘
I have the epiphone 59 standard love it
Great to see someone who can see the overblown value placed on big name guitars. Agree 100%. Subscribed 👍🇮🇪
I think the sweet spot for a new guitar these days is $500 to $700.
Mid to late 80’s was the best time to purchase Gibson and fender guitars , very few wanted them because the didn’t have stripes and Floyd roses and the were cheap used . I’ve got a 72 strat and a 81 Gibson les Paul custom both were under 800 at the time .
It depends on how hot your #1 wife is in that situation...
My local luthier Ake Bjornstad(Gothenburg,Sweden) posted a beautiful single cut that was destined for USA customer..not as "special" as the "Bush Shoes" but really nice enough to make you forget the "sandbox debate" on Gibson..
The only time I’ve bought Gibson was when I knew for sure I could flip them quickly. Made a few thousand dollars flipping the, to the fanboys.
If you are a Les Paul guy and you are looking for a handbuilt guitar check Mensinger and Maybach guitars in europe. They are not cheap but 100% handbuilt.
Dan: Can we do tele-med? You're so reasonable.
Danny I have to ask , what exactly are those you’re eating ? They look delicious
Frozen Shrimp Dumplings...
I agree 100%. I doubt very many rock stars paid for the guitars they play. That's cheap advertising for them. I wonder how much Apple pays TV and movie producers for using iphones in their productions and we get to listen to that iphone ring tone that I hate.

Agree with you. Good sound comes out of your fingers, if you cant play no guitar for 10.000 bucks will help.
Buy a kit and build it will give you some idea of the work involved. But buy all the woods they use and build completely from scratch you give you a lot to do.
I will NOT be making from scratch.. I saw what it took: th-cam.com/video/yOO9QWr81eg/w-d-xo.html

thanks for that, they do have a very well laid out website!
The Bush shoe is a brilliant example of nonsensical worth...brilliant!
I'm watching this segment again only because I wanted to watch you eat that 'thing' you picked up with your chopsticks. So funny!!
Hey medic. What gives. Where's a video about the greeny
you are still killing me with these! also just because you per say would buy a gibson lp... does not mean it is set up or will not need one! plus look at their quality control. Love the rants!
I really love my brand new 2022 60s Epiphone Lee Paul .
As you should. All of those inspired by Epiphone’s are outstanding quality and the tone you get out of them is second to none.
It really is an awesome guitar the new head stock is awesome too

Full collection video? Be awesome 😎👍
I got rid of my collection, im moving to a small apt in vegas
What did you do with your guitar collection when you moved to Vegas?
I gave them away... because they were not expensive stuff so there was no selling
Dude wants a Gibson SO bad...lol.. BRUH, it's ALL you talk about! 😂
Lolol
They say the nitro cellulose finishes on vintage guitars are more brittle allowing the guitar to resonate more. What I say? Calling BS on that my friend . Keep up the good work , Gibson should hire you as a " Reality Check Consultant" !
The whole is worth so much more than the sum of the parts and that’s the difference between night and day. Think of Architecture

100% agree
Is it the same with Fender? Or Suhr? Why is this only about Gibson?
none of this is preplanned. gibson happened to be the first brand I looked into for my premium price guitar purchase.
Haha you think like me Danny. I've bought a lot of cheaper guitars over the years and just do the work myself as well. I figure buying the tools is an investment and over a lot of guitars, more than pay for themselves.

Worth 🤣🤣. Its what people will pay
why did someone throw a shoe at a mass murderer?
Gibson was Bankrupt recently until Epiphone Guitars saved them🤔they went down the drain for a reason. no one buys them😂 until the boomer fanbois used their retirement tokeep it relevant.
its not worth the money...... but when you walk out on stage.... you have a gibson
no no that is Epiphone's slogan! lol "for every stage"
It’s money laundering
People want Gibson because the rock stars play them so they have to have them.
...And the Rock Stars Play them because they get them from free from the companies......
I think you actually need to be a accomplished guitar player before you tell someone what constitutes a good instrument, and even then it is a totally only your opinion and not fact.
