I have never heard of the man before. But the things he was talking about and how he introduced them were awesome. One of the greatest if not the number one of all the guests for me personally.

'The scar is better than having no wounds at all.'
Too many today want perfection, not in themselves obviously, but in everyone else.
George Orwell had a little to say about that...
'The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection, that one is sometimes willing to commit sins for the sake of loyalty, that one does not push asceticism to the point where it makes friendly intercourse impossible, and that one is prepared in the end to be defeated and broken up by life, which is the inevitable price of fastening one's love upon other human individuals. '

I’m glad the conversation about veganism segued to address the human suffering caused by the labor required under “consumerism,” I’d like to call out what the sentiment boils down to, which is “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.” No matter what it is you’re ‘consuming,’ you can follow threads back through how the product came to be and find suffering at the end of it. There’s an argument to be made that ethical veganism is harm reduction, but there’s no use being on a high horse about it unless you can address the human suffering of what you consume as well. Which is (currently) impossible.

"Pete as a philosopher and Christian mystic is extremely underrated and valued." Thus sayeth Brutus.
Also, ALA Omega 3 fatty acids are not the same as animal derived. That is to say EPA and DHA from seafood are incredibly important, especially for those of us with mental health issues. As a former vegan, Brutus would underscore that there are other nutrients and so forth that may be problematic with said diet as well. Carnitine and B12 are a couple examples and the list goes on. In other words, he would debate whether it's ideal for health. Ethics is just one piece of the puzzle.
just having purchased a "Dream Basket" with Heifer International, Brutus adds it's worth noting the socio-economics of diet and (white) privilege, too
The lobster metaphor reminds Brutus of a line in "The Clincher" by Chevelle: "This body's left the soul."

      Pete's standup is fine.
I don't think he's even make my top 20 of all time.
      Him doing this...fantastic.
And I prefer this to going on a Colbert show or the like where he's performing for the audience.
I thought the same of Patrice O'Neil. His standup was not my cup of tea. Stuff like this...or with a crowd, very good.
Rogan. Keep him off the stage. A stand up comedian he is not

Really enjoyed the section about parenting in the beginning- would definitely like more guest reflections on different aspects of parenting and the juggle and will explore some of Petes comedy.
I hear his takes and absorb reflections on reality and coming out of the body to a higher self- or non self- and links to Eckhart etc and I can see the value of all this to some-
However, not to get into philosophical discussion here and this isn't trying to put forward an alternative/dual perspective but just in my own experience exploring these issues- I would say I have found some value in actually doing body practices rather than those explored by Pete and actively using and experiencing the proprioceptive aspect of the senses and how we engage with the world physically- when experiencing feelings of dissociation and fear around the questions of -do we really exist/what is consciousness/reality- Ive personally found digging deeper into this in a meditative way has not been as helpful sometimes (and I have read this can be common) but that using the body as the anchor to feeling more grounded- using things like massage, hugging people (not random ones!) cooking, using my hands to actually feel a safer way in- also I think we need to be wary of placing too much value on higher states of consciousness being the better way (not really saying Pete is doing this but it can feel like that in these types of discussions) because they arent always attainable for some- and actually I dont always feel I need them personally to feel good- I can separate self from ego just by virtue of being a parents sometimes :-)
Again this is not me getting into an intellectual discussion as I am not that way trained/read or inclined just offering an alternative thread to the discussion.
As always though I loved the nature of your discussion/the connection Rich- the interaction the natural ability you have to listen and try to relate and also to question how you are receiving the info and also to ask the guest to tangibly relate practice and extrapolate this from their content- thanks both
