Benelli made the sei as a way to guarantee a possible 4 out of 6 cylinders could be working while it was running. We had 1 from new, it snapped a rocker arm off every ride. Cb550 rocker arms were a direct replacement..... co incidence im sure.
A work of art! though Benelli was taken to court in the day for pretty much copying the CB 750, albeit with 2 extra cylinders. Nevertheless a lovely machine, light, well balanced and good looking. In a word, Italian.
@TheTheeggmann true, true, except it isn't a six cylinder. It is only a five cylinder. Count the shiny carbs and add in the fact that one 5 exhaust pipes are venting exhaust. Still looks nice and if I had a five cylinder bike and had to choose between 5 pipes for this, I would choose this. Still a nice bike.
That's a great view of the Fontana 2LS rear drum - what was it, 230mm??? HUGE for a rear drum! Gorgeous bikes especially when fitted with triple DRUM brakes! Can you tell I'm afflicted with a terrible drum hub fetish?
@TheAndy1990 No it's not. One is Japanese and the other is Italian. That's like saying a Honda V6 is somewhat related to a Ferarri V12. They're only related due to the fact they're Internal Combustion Engines that run on Gasoline and have pistons, valves, bearings, and will eventually wear out. It's more in the same family as a Honda CBX1100 or a Kawasaki KZ1300... Inline 6. Or a Honda 250-6
sorry guy, its a six with single cam's and rocker's. remind's me of the ferrari 312 series with thier flat white painted header's too. I guess to cool them quick to keep them from splitting at high temp.,
@thierrykamette Its not a fake. the 900 was a 6 cylinder, I know this because I owned 3 of them and one of them had the same exhaust set up as this bike, bloody noisy it was!!!
