Even if OP in the first didn't stick around, she still should've been mailed a check for the unpaid overtime. Same with anyone who ever worked for him and got hours cut. Shouldn't matter if they still work there or not.
Yeah I noticed this, too. In fact if OP’s boss can’t prove they did mail out the last check then not only do they still OP that last check, as well as all the unpaid overtime, but he also owes OP big time for being late on the last paycheck. Some states you only have like 48hrs and every day after incurs additional fees
Fire marshals can basically say "No, This isn't a building, it's a bonfire waiting to happen." Because pretty much every fire safety code exists because of something prior that caused a fire.
That's basically why OSHA and every safety regulation/law exists. Because dozens or hundreds of people died because of unsafe practices; they died for those rules to be implemented to save other lives.

@@bradleyj.fortner2203 Trust me when I say, she probably had her own reason (that she didn't list) about why she would walk away from that. She just didn't want the money. She did it for the other people who were working under him.
Sometimes when you are young and already heavily devalued in society, you just want to move on and get away from the bad things that you didn't know was bad until you are too far in. If she is really owed backpay, it'll come to her in a different way I'm sure. Especially if she lives in the USA (I'm assuming because of the mention of OSHA). I got fired from a job and sometime after that they were under investigation for not paying what they owed, so I got backpay in the form of a treasury note.
yea everyone just jumps to OPs side and congratulates her for being so brave and stunning while ignoring the fact that she let this go on for years, helped cover her boss's illegal activities, helped screw over her coworkers, probably gave food poisoning to her customers for years... sure she ain't as bad as the boss but that doesn't mean she's a good person or the hero of the story.
@@theswedishdude1 I'm pretty sure she admitted that herself and accepted responsibility. Also, she mentioned not really knowing just how illegal everything the boss was doing was and that makes me think she was probably really young when she started working for him. Plus, her desperation for a job didn't help because hungry people make poor shoppers. Not saying she shouldn't have reported earlier (she should have) but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt in this case as she seems genuinely remorseful for not doing it sooner. I will also mention that if OP is in America then it might have been harder to leave/report due to how the country runs businesses and the lack of good unions (there are some but they're pretty demonized despite being there to protect workers from shit like what OP's ex boss did). We also have to take retaliation into account because OP would definitely have suffered from that if the boss had ever found out.
OP definitely SHOULD have spoken up. However, the system is rigged against that. If she had spoken up too soon, he'd have gotten away with it due to the lack of paperwork. It wouldn't have been as severe. Also what protections are there for OP when retaliation happens? The man's spouse is STILL RUNNING. His direct family is still operational, and likely connected to his bank. if there truly was a good system, she'd be barred as long as she's married to him due to the risks. He was barely punished in the grand scheme of things. He isn't suffering.

@@theswedishdude1 In America, poor people don't have the luxury to report rich criminals most of the time. Especially if the rich criminal in question is the one dropping pennies in your outstretched hand. What gave OP the courage to stand up and do something wasn't the build-up of time, it was the hint of a financial safety net. Remember, OP's folks said they'd cover rent for a while; AND the OP had managed to scrape together roughly three months of bills money. If it weren't for the safety net, OP could've wound up in debt or homeless by reporting everything. People who can barely afford a decent meal and a roof don't have the wiggle room to bargain on their paycheck.

I was hired on the spot for Domino’s. Sure the job sucked, I worked more than legally allowed in one shift for a minor, and literally no one got breaks, but they were so short on staff that it made sense. This was also at the beginning of May 2021.
When you described the store with the terrible sanitary practices, I was imagining Gordon Ramsey walking through there yelling at everyone ^.^ I sure am glad he got what was coming to him.
Yep. Sounded exactly like a kitchen nightmares candidate described by an employee. Would have served that owner right to get ripped a new one by Gordon. But honestly this guy seemed to be beyond rescue even for Gordon.
For the last story: Op: -~calls building inspector~ Building inspector: Hold up. Let me get someone else. ~calls the fire Marshall~ Fire Marshall, arrives: I'm about to end this whole man's career.
that’s actually what’s done, building inspectors handle the buildings except the fire suppression systems. fire marshal handle the sprinklers, alarms, fire escapes, entrances and exits, and standpipes(those bright red hose connections to the building and inside). they can literally close an entire building complex if they aren’t satisfied, and do so until they’re satisfied and not a damn thing can be done by anyone without a court order!

The first story reminded me a story of a well known sub shop in my old shopping center. I was a business neighbor. I had friends from that shop. One of the old managers was just like the owner except he was a sleaze ball. My close friend and former fellow manager was fired for no reason. I knew him from his old job.
OP isn’t a saint either. Literally KNEW what the boss/owner was doing for YEARS and only did something when he got mad for being yelled at 🙄 So he never thought about the countless people eating expired and disgusting food? They’re just like the person who literally saw a coworker spit in someone’s food and didn’t say anything until the end of the shift and went to the manager.
To be honest OP and her old boss are the reason why so many people get sick from eating out.I understand if you really need a job but OP is almost as bad as the owner. He probably caused a lot of people to get sick and this place is probably subway.

I worked for the Fire Commissioner for a state in which I no longer live, for 30 years. All those building permits and the Certificate of Occupancy that are required, are required for a reason. If that building had a C of O, it was either a forgery or issued fraudulently or was for the building as originally built. Once any modifications were made, other than strictly cosmetic, the old C of O was no longer valid for the areas where changes were being made. That is why you NEED Building Permits and City, County or State inspections. Do not screw with the Fire Commissioner or any office that reports to them = you WILL get burned!
It makes me so happy how Rslashs fans are so active and make cute little comments to hype him and his content up. I watch these everyday and it’s a part of my daily routine and it’s really cool to see other people have this routine too. You guys are cool
For the first story, you can tell that OP's boss is literally squeezing out as much money out of his employees and store items so he could get more money in his pocket in the fallout. The one thing I've learned from watching RSlash is if anyone (especially entitled jerks) comes from money, there's a good chance that they're gonna do anything to get more money in their pocket. Whether that be from child support, having a monthly money payment from parents, having a job or smooching off of their partners.
OP was with the sub company for 6 years, not 5(interestingly the same amount of time I was at my first job, also a sub company, except my boss was awesome). They probably let their coworkers suffer that long to have a good pile of evidence.
first story: I wonder why OP's expenses were so high, that with OP working as an area manager and spouse working long shifts, they had barely any savings and were like one step away from homelessness
I worked as a manager at a pizza place in college and still only made $1.25 above minimum wage. Just because OP was a manager doesn’t mean she was making significant money. It was probably barely more than minimum.
@@Annie_Annie__ OP themselves said 1.5x above minimum wage, that's almost nothing... They were making roughly $1700 a month, working 40h a week paid... The first red flag should have been being hired on the spot. What kind of company hires without doing a drug test and background check Also no permit for construction in the South which means likely a state run by the anti-regulation party. Who would have thunk it
I agree with you on the drug test background checks. I have had to get police checks and pre employment drug checks as well as medicals etc for every job I have had for decades. But in the US you could be a Senator, POTUS etc without any so not to difficult to believe
All these folks saying OP of the first story should've said something earlier, and I'm just sitting here like, Oh yeah, and what good would it have done? There's no exact timeframe given for when they noticed certain things or got their paperwork proof. The only thing they really could've done from the get go was a report for sanitation practices, and given the kinda pigsties I've seen that're still open, without the evidence OP had managed to gather over those years of even that one thing, the dude would've gotten a slap on the wrist. People came in for YEARS and would mention the freezer, and he'd tell them "oh yeah I'm getting it fixed soon," but none of them ever seemed to notice, "Huh, this was broken last time, but he said he was gonna get it fixed, so why isn't it fixed?" All that would've happened would be that OP and their partner would've ended up on the streets. Not to mention, if you call it out too early, it's stupid easy for these kinds of people to turn it around on you, take it from someone who lived with that kind of narcissist and got blamed and in trouble for a lot of crap I had no hand in.
OP not getting any back pay makes me doubt their story. If other employees automatically got checks mailed to them for back pay after the investigation, she would have gotten one too. The state wouldn't have made her go pick up her check and automatically mailed other employees theirs?????
I'm so concerned that the Electricity board has not replaced the fuse box, where the wires are all burnt out. We were supposed to give a handwritten letter requesting a new one and WE DID, TWO WEEKS AGO. I called them and a couple of guys came to check it. They just removed the fuse, told me I didn't know anything and went on their way. A local electrician has set up a tape and sticks kinda solution but it won't last for long. I have spent so many days in this sweltering heat. The electricity board people keep telling me that they'll do their job and not get in a huff over it and just do my job. I'm at my wit's end. At this point I'm more concerned that there might be an electrical fire than a lack of electricity. What do I do
Fire Marshalls hold so much power due to life safety. The theory is that there is no reasonable excuse to allow unsafe commercial buildings to be occupied.
About the 2nd story. I work in AC, yup, red flag, what they did is actually illegal, if the system is still leaking gas, that's an environmental hazard, as well as a potential work hazard. But I disagree with the notion of the OP stating "That's like putting gas in a diesel motor, they'd have to change the whole system." Not exactly, R-410a is actually a direct substitute of R-22. Little Background: By the Protocols of Montreal, signers had to "eliminate" products that are bad for the o-zone layer, United States is a signer of the Protocol. R-22 has chlorine, chlorine is very bad for the o-zone layer. My timelines here could be a little off so I apologize in advance. In 1999 it was decided to stop producing R-22, 2004 it was decided to prohibit the sale of equipment that utilized R-22 but you could still utilize R-22 if it meant for repairs, 2010 they banned the sale of R-22 altogether, 2015 they completely banned the R-22 from the market, equipment could no longer be repaired if it meant charging the system with R-22, and any R-22 recovered had to be sent away to be legally "put-down". Granted, 410A could work roughly at the same pressures as R-22, as it's also a direct substitute for R-22. So the notion of changing R-22 for R-410a is actually fine, but ductaping and WD-40 is actually insulting, if you reported it, AC repairmen could be in DEEP trouble, considering countries aren't messing around with environmental hazards such as that.

Op definitely should have still gotten a check for their unpaid overtime. I had it happen to me before and I got my check well after I quit. Not nearly as much as it should have been, bc my boss continued to lie to the labor department and one of the bartenders liked to clock me out bc I reported him for giving alcohol to a minor but still, I got a decent check in the mail
people need to report there employers when they start breaking the law, when I worked at maccies, we were anonomously reporting them whenever they did illegal shit
This is super relatable even from a simple bottom tier employee perspective, i worked under the largest franchise owner in the company for Honey Baked Ham, similar neglected maintenance issues, and attitude about everything. i remember having an ancient coke machine that i had t constantly empty a plastic tub kept underneath it for leaking water, during our remodel, i witnessed him respond to the maintenance guy that the machine needed to be replaced, and he replied "What's wrong with it!?" I also remember him making up insane BS to keep good employees like myself or my boss, like when it was officially time for me to quit working at his store and under his franchise because i was moving out of town he had her tell me that i could not transfer and it would be illegal to work in a corporate owned store until after 6 months, they just so happen to take me and my experience in with open arms. I am soo happy i no longer work for either now and i am at a place that believes in paying its employees a living wage of $15 an hour! but with all my bottom of the barrel experiences of struggling over the years, i could never imagine a place existing THAT out of line, im soo happy that OP not only got revenge but did the right thing
In 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued a statement that said in part: "In my Inaugural I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living." If taxpayers believe a minimum wage is something where 2 people working 60 hrs a week can barely keep a roof over their heads, then taxpayers deserve moldy bread, lettuce gone bad, and poor service. It's what they're paying for.
The OP who didn’t check about their back pay, should reach out to the state. Sometimes in lawsuits they will take the money owed but not issue the checks unless someone asks about it. My husband had been let go and his severance check didn’t have his overtime owed when the company he worked for got shut down. This was years later but he still reached out to the state just to see. A check arrived in the mail months later. Sometimes it pays to just ask.
7:34 Sorry to do this to you guys but Im'ma pull back the veil for you all. The three "disgusting" things that OP listed are completely reasonable in a restaurant setting... honestly I'd go so far as to say all three are ideal solutions when you're in a restaurant setting. I mean lets be real here, in each of these situations what other options do you have? Lets say you just opened up a case of romaine lettuce and all of the leaf tips are brown (which is actually somewhat common tbh. If I had to put a number on it I'd say ~1 in 5 boxes). Now you can either throw it out or sell it. Id also like to mention that the restaurant had to spend ~40$ to get that case of lettuce in. Now you may think that you'd need to make $40 to break even...but what about the cook's wage? how about the electricity that keeps the cooler cold? Or the water bill so you can wash them?... and so on. Starting to see the issue? Now the money aspect is important but there's few other points I wanna cover. Why do lettuce leaves turn brown? It's cuz the lettuce has started to oxidize (aka the lettuce is rusting). It's not like the lettuce has begun to rot, hell if you didn't actually see the spots and just started eating there's basically a 0% chance you'd notice (the flavor & texture is a tiny bit off, but man it's subtle). Can those brown spots contaminat the rest of the letting? Yeah, but it's nothing to sweat over. If you get some rusty lettuce in with the good stuff then the whole bin will rust substantially quicker. Thing is that if you use a knife to cut up your lettuce then you've got nothing to worry about: the metal of the knife acts as a nucleation site your lettuce to rust. So yeah, not exactly something to worry about. And lastly I just wanna point out that lettuce is a high volume product. You will be going through a lot of it, and it's also got a massive return value. I think a nice casino analogy would help: the drinks at a casino are usually free which I'd equate to menu items like steak as they are both something people want and are usually "sold" for a net loss. Lettuce would have a lot more in common the VLTs, a small investment for the company that gets marked up 500-1000%, and thats what you really make your money from. oh yeah, I guess I should mention that I've been a "professional" in the culinary world for 13 years now 🤣. I guess I should also mention I started counting from when I got my first competitive gold metal, I've only had my seal for 8 years 🤘
"At first it was a perfectly reasonable job." Yep. That's how the parasite class does it. It's to sort of set an anchor they can tie gaslighting to later on.
The story about the AC just made me laugh. "It was nearly 80 degrees" oh boo hoo. It frequently gets over 8F during the summer and sometimes up to 95F. And we have to just deal with it.
The OP going through all that for 6yrs, I actually feel she's disgusting.. She didn't do ANYTHING even though she said she had all that evidence for years.. She didn't care that the others didn't get paid as long as she did.. She cared about herself.. She turned him when, HER WORDS, when SHE had enough.. Horrible person if you ask me..
I work in Japan in a school without any air conditioning in the classrooms. Now, if you know even the slightest but about the climate in Japan, you should know that the summers here are extremely hot and humid. I'm talking 90+ degrees with 80+ humidity. Soooooo the way the guy was complaining about not having AC was just making me laugh my ass off. Not because I don't think he deserves AC, but just because I can't believe how normalized having no ACs in schools is here, in a country where I see news reports every year about people dying of heat stroke.

Fire Marshals deserve to be god-like in this case, fires used to be APOCALYPTIC in cities, even just like 60-70 years ago a small fire could ruin entire economies, especially when we just had rusty pipes pumping loose, odorless, flammable gasses around everywhere to hear and light everything. We take fire SO MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY than we used to!
"Changed the refrigerant from r22 to r410a" No comment on how fast the change took place. But changing to 410a is 100% legit. 410a was developed as a replacement for r22, which is not sold or imported into or within the U.S. because of its devastating effects on the ozone layer. It is the fact that they didn't already change it out that raises red flags. Red flags that are also on fire.
I dont live in the USA but 7.5usd per hour according to google. they needed a 1.5x pay for what they where earning.11.25usd. 20 hours a week. 11x20= 220 a WEEK. 50 hours (presuming they got time off) 220x50= 11000. 11,000 x 6 is likely 66000.
You did the wrong calc. Its 40(7.25) + 20(11.63) multiply by 5, then multiply by 52. It comes out to 135,876 assuming no taxes, unpaid days off, unpaid breaks or holidays working 5 days a week for an entire year.
I'm an apprentice for my local chapter of the international union of operating engineers (we deal with HVAC for big machine rooms in buildings here in NYC). My teacher, the chief over at Citi Field, told us during class last year about someone he knew doing this exact thing and about how absolutely dumb it was. Cost the building a CRAZY amount in damages and replacing stuff. He was just glad nobody got hurt because basically at all times when that thing is running with the wrong refrigerant in it that there's a chance something can just explode from pressures that it wasn't designed for. Don't ever, EVER do what those guys did.
Someone needs to speak to these people and tell them that you are legally allowed to apply for jobs while still employed at your current job. Holy shit.
I've no doubt listened to this one last year and commented on it. Well here's another one as I can't remember if I had or not. That story about sandwich shop owner who had other businesses on the go, sounds all to familiar to an owner in the town near me and who also had a foot hold in another city in the county. The guy would buy premises, do them up and they were good niches on the front. But after a while they would fall apart and close. These places were mostly pubs and an international beer shop. A nightclub/cocktail bar he had, I got talking to one of the bar staff there and they told me that he wasn't paying his staff and those in the other city took him to court for it. Then I found out that he would open businesses under other names from his family, which he also ran into the ground and the city council let him do this. Something tells me that he may know or is close to someone in the council and could be coincidence that the nightclub got developed into student housing soon after its closure. Everyone in the local pub trade hates him for being slimy and his bad business practises.

@@bradleyj.fortner2203
Trust me when I say, she probably had her own reason (that she didn't list) about why she would walk away from that.

Yell at OP: now it's time to report
yea everyone just jumps to OPs side and congratulates her for being so brave and stunning while ignoring the fact that she let this go on for years, helped cover her boss's illegal activities, helped screw over her coworkers, probably gave food poisoning to her customers for years...
sure she ain't as bad as the boss but that doesn't mean she's a good person or the hero of the story.
@@Blackdragon99omfg An anonymous tip to a health inspector and a surprise inspection might have been enough. There were already violations. The wages would be different. OP was inexperienced and still learning, though.
For the last story:
Op: -~calls building inspector~
Building inspector: Hold up. Let me get someone else. ~calls the fire Marshall~
Fire Marshall, arrives: I'm about to end this whole man's career.
that’s actually what’s done, building inspectors handle the buildings except the fire suppression systems. fire marshal handle the sprinklers, alarms, fire escapes, entrances and exits, and standpipes(those bright red hose connections to the building and inside).
they can literally close an entire building complex if they aren’t satisfied, and do so until they’re satisfied and not a damn thing can be done by anyone without a court order!

I love the revenge stories. Even if it’s just karmic justice. You should also do more tree law stories. Those are always fun.
first story: I wonder why OP's expenses were so high, that with OP working as an area manager and spouse working long shifts, they had barely any savings and were like one step away from homelessness
Depends on the area and being dumb with budgeting/ horrible spending habits. We just get a small slice why this and that etc.
They could be in a city with a high cost of living or something like New York or Toronto.

Can we just talk about how that cheapskate boss is literally Mr. Krabs?
The Fire Marshal saying is very true, fire safety is no joke. You befriend the good ones and you're basically feared. It's AWESOME.
Do y'all ever cringe when the "every single day-" gets cut off at the end?
Literally just happened when I read this lol

My favourite stories for morning coffee :)
In 1933, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued a statement that said in part:
"In my Inaugural I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living."
If taxpayers believe a minimum wage is something where 2 people working 60 hrs a week can barely keep a roof over their heads, then taxpayers deserve moldy bread, lettuce gone bad, and poor service.

Sorry to do this to you guys but Im'ma pull back the veil for you all.

"Changed the refrigerant from r22 to r410a"
No comment on how fast the change took place. But changing to 410a is 100% legit. 410a was developed as a replacement for r22, which is not sold or imported into or within the U.S. because of its devastating effects on the ozone layer. It is the fact that they didn't already change it out that raises red flags. Red flags that are also on fire.

Holy shit.
When a code enforcer and a fire marshal work together it can get even better
I'm an HVAC technician, and hearing they put 410A in an R-22 system broke my soul
The longer I listened the more it sounds like my first job. The story is eerily similar
Thanks for the stories rslash. I really appreciate you
Your content is always what I spend my lunch time listening to. Its a nice break from school, and very nice to listen to.
