@@DaveDoesFitness 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️it’s kinda baffling, thanks for making solid content and giving us the low-down! Looking at a few options with the new Apple Watch Ultra and Fenix 8 coming out
Exactly! All the “Fenix 8 Pro” videos are annoying. Somebody explain to the AIs that the “Pro” version won’t launch until around 18 months after the base Fenix 8 (assuming the standard timeline).
I'd say wait until the announcement to see if there are any other killer features, but yeah an Epix Pro is most definitely good for the foreseeable future! Thanks for watching! 💪🏃
I’ll stick with my epix pro thanks, also rumours of Garmin starting a subscription for some services will only push people to other brands including me
I used to have an OLED and transitioned to MIPS. I am happy for you all. But I guess I'll keep mine for as long as Garmin supports it OR release a better one with MIPS. Being able to stay 15 days tracking my activity and using maps when hiking 10h a day in the alps without charging is something I am not ready to let go as for now. Maybe if I get lazy and don't need all of that in the future... but for now I need more something I can trust over what looks nice 😀
Thanks Dave. Having watched the video I will buy the Fenix 7 Pro 💪 I prefer a sports watch to cellphone on my wrist 😊otherwise I would buy an apple watch and not a sports watch
Nice one, Dave - thanks for pointing out the highlights. The UI/graphics look good, and fine functions one could get used to, although I'll probably wait 'til the next gen to upgrade (can/should not use a wrist watch at work anyway 👨⚕😉)
So glad the algorithms found this video for me. For sure I'm gonna get the Fenix 8 small if it has OLED display, mic and speakers, as well as replies to messages on my phone. That is a dealbreaker for me after 7 years with Samsung watches and the reason I bought a Venu 3s last year. Super happy with it in total, but missing some features I want from the top of the line watches. However, the smart watch features are a must (though I don't care about installing 3rd party apps to control other gadgets or my car or whatever so a Garmin is good enough. I need the battery life and correct metrics that the smart watches does not have).
The piece between start button and back button looks very similar to the one seen on the Descent MK3. To me , this means we are going to get diving capabilities. That is so cool ! A true all-round device very capable in air, land and sea much like a true Navy Seal's device. 💪 Two months ago we received an update having a new chat messenger from Garmin. Maybe it was just the first step introducing some sort of satellite connection like we've seen on Inreach devices. Wowww... that will be something to write home about and move Garmin way ahead in the first position when it comes to adventure and tactical features.
Excited for the dive feature but not sure how that would work with speaker and microphone. I love the Descent line, hopefully they keep it up for the professionals. Other feature that I hope they integrate soon are for home automation, like turning everything off when you leave home for a run. There are loads more possibilities if they include ways to integrate to threads/matter/zigbee.
Hey Dave, thanks for the update, been waiting a while for the Fenix 8, if all correct and it does come with the updates you suggested, then I'll update my Fenix 6. See what happens. Cheers, M109
Maybe basic dive functionality to compete with Apple Watch ? “Limited “ depth and without the technical features or air integration is my guess. (Descent MK3i owner here)
These seem to be the small changes to finally get a garmin. I was focused on a used epix 2 pro, but i often take calls with my watch when i dont have my phone right beside me. Even tho i had it turned off and had no plan for an e sim, a cellular Connection would be great in case of emergency. Garmin watches last a long time , so the ability to take an emergency call when my phone battery runs out would be a nice touch.
But that would probably kill the battery as we know and praise from Garmin ;/ I was hoping for the same when the series 7 came out, and now we're ahead of series 8. I feel, like they won't go this way - yet.
@@JarosawTabor true, but just like on a apple watch or a phone you could turn cellular on and off as u like. Therefore limiting battery usage only to yout liking.
Looks like they eliminated the epix added a mic, and called it a day to me. And whatever it has software wise will make it to my epix pro, so thanks for the preview. Great vid
MIC and Speaker !!!! hell yeah ! thats what I have been waiting to upgrade, I would say that to blow the Apple watch Ultra out of the water a LTE would be the route to go but at this point I would take the MIc with voice assist ( I am assuming Alexa ) I would be fine . In summery : Amoled display , MIc to answer phone calls and send text and flashlight I am IN !! thanks for the review !
The diving would be a feature enough to update for me!!! I like what I see Aldo I would really want a updated way to charge it cause I really hate this way at the moment :(
❤ so since my Istinct solar has no more battery life after 4 years 😢 I am using a Kospect Tank T3 ultra so ,,,yes I am happy there is speeker in Fenix 8 🍊 color 🥰🥰🥰 I will wait for pro version,,, great review 🤙🏻🍻
With regards to the "SCUBA" mode, yes. You seem to be very correct. NDL (No decompression limit), TTS (Time to surface), Air (gas used), and the sidebar with the arrows indication going up are all scuba diving terms and features. Compass also makes sense, current depth in the middle, and max depth indicated as well. My guess is that this isn't going to be a cheap watch, as the descent MK3 is over 1k USD. However, there doesn't seem to be a tank pressure sensor in the menu shown, which is the main feature of Descent Mk3i (special low frequency transceiver).
Thank you for the great video, my fav combo is coming back with Fenix 8 (feni6 pro with ember band). I am hesitant to pull the trigger right away, they may come up with a pro version 3 months of initial release. Sold my Epix 2 Pro yesterday. Good timing.
That looks like a micro sim slot at the edge of the bezel between the play and lap button. Hopefully LTE available in the UK. They can have my money if so 😝
Damn! I just bought an Epix Pro Gen 2. The speaker and microphone is a good addition but I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and I never used it to make any phone calls. And Fenix 8 not being LTE sort of makes the addition semi useful. Great review though, thanks.
just received a fenix 7 pro in an exchange process - ive likely got no need to upgrade and even if i did it would be to the Enduro 3. for whatever reason I just prefer MIP over AMOLED, i dont think I will ever like an AMOLED as much as MIP good video bro 🤙
Hmm I see what you guys are saying about OLED and battery life so I guess we'll wait for some more data. Mic and speaker, yes please. Also I hope they make more space for pre programmed workouts. When I upgraded from 645 to F7S, I couldn't download all my workouts onto it.
Went from a 965 to a Coros Pace 3 and honestly have no regrets, it got to the point where the Amoled display was just to much and the battery didnt last.
AGREEEEEEED you got a sub bro. Every AI video I see, I skip. This one, couldn't click on fast enough. appreciate your work, and looking forward to picking up one of these! Can't decide which one yet, but it's gonna be one haha
I think I’ll upgrade from my Fenix 6 Pro that I’ve had since 2020. The flashlight will be cool and the OLED too. I honestly am not running enough currently to need the MIP and would like the crisp look of the OLED with all the Garmin features.
The scuba diving feature is usually in another series, the Descent models. Adding the scuba diving feature into the fenix series may mark the end of the descent series. This may also increase the price of the fenix 8 significantly. Hopefully they'll have different models, one with scuba diving features and one without.
Wow that's huge, I know they are combining the Epix into the Fenix, but if they discontinue the Descent at the same time that would be a big shakeup to their models
@@donnawetter1513 it's interesting that it says dive 40m at the back. Most recreational scuba divers can go down to 30m and technical divers can go way deeper. Thus the Descent MK3 has a max depth up to 200m and most basic dive watches has a minimum 100m max depth. I was guessing that perhaps it's for free diving, but free diving shouldn't have many of those data on screen, such as NDL, TTS, max depth. Only time will tell
I’m surprised no one commented about the battery life. If the screen is different and now you have a speaker where you can talk like the Venu 3 and loud audible alarms I bet the battery will take a hit. The Venu 3 only has 3 days with always on display. This might be only 7-10 days max.
I'm really happy with the fenix 7. Mic and speaker would be nice. Didn't see the need for it till I went skiing, and being able to have a phone call with out taking out a phone would be great, as you do get split up occasionally. One of those nice to have features that's useful couple of times a year. Improved speed and mapping would be nice. Doubt I'll upgrade though, they cost to much to upgrade every couple of years. I thought the torch would be a never used gimmick, I use it weekly. Not sure I want amoled over mips. Mips is easy to read in bright sunlight and saves battery life. Amoled looks better generally. But if it sacrifices battery life or readability no thanks. So have to see how that balances out in reviews. And FFS can we just get Google pay rather than Garmin pay. Its supported by hardly any banks anyway. Or at least give us the option. I hate the way gatlrmin and Samsung try and go their own apps, that require many dozens of external companies to work and just mess it up.
It looks like Garmin is finally getting motivated to make some big changes to these watches. Probably, not because of Apple, though that must be hurting a little, but because of the improvements on Samsung and Google's smartwatch platforms. It makes sense to make the MIPS the Enduro and rationalise the line to remove the Epix. Maybe we'll hear more later on that (LTE enabled Fenix 8 maybe?). This also seems to be what they are doing with their Edge devices. Adding a better screen while keeping a transflective screen with solar option for the endurance cyclists.
I'm curious as to what the new software features will be. LTE option with full cellular calling and texts on the watch would be awesome so we can leave the phone behind when working out. If they do I just hope it won't be like the sad attempt they did with the 945 LTE model.
2-4 weeks of battery life is one of my most loved features in my Fenix 7x solar. The screen could be better, but at least it has touch. but better screen, will reduce batteri, and for me, its mostly a tough Long (battery) lasting watch with smart functions. If i wanted a watch with all the features, like awesome screen, mic and other stuff, i would (as Android user) go for the apple watch. With my Fenix 7, the worst thing is the swimming activity. It really sucks tracking swimming activity. The only way to track correct is counting lanes while swimming.
Just got a used scratched fenix 6 pro for 175€. I guess I will maybe get a used 7x pro solar Saphire when all the used ones Hit the market. Then I have a small one for every day and a big one for outdoor Navigation.
@@DaveDoesFitness arrived today. I am very pleased and not broke as a bonus. The six pro looks very nice on my wirst and a lot of functions for now. Love the MIPS Disolay. Personally, I was hoping that Garmin would change how the Fenix is charged! I’ve wasted so much time fiddling with the cable, making sure it’s in exactly the right position & depth for it to effing charge!!
I'd much rather have a camera than microphone and a speaker on my sports watch. LTE is also not needed. It would be cool to be able to send an SOS signal of some kind but that's it. I don't need my sports watch to become a full fledged smart watch. I need it to be good in mountains with super long battery life. And if I am nitpicking I'd love to have an Audible app on the Garmin Fenix :)
Check some of my older content. I have a video on how to get your audible library onto your watch. It's a bit of a process, but it's definitely worth it for those long runs!
Dive features is interesting. It essentially kills rhe Descent line and theyve always said sive gear hws to go through more durability testing, which is why it was separate
Now that ive got what ive wanted for a long time which is a fenix level device with OLED display, not really sure what I want next from them apart from OLED displays on their GPSMAP lineup. There dosnt seem to be enough update over my Epix to upgrade.
so is it actually an updated epix watch? where do i find the fenix parts because I thought the only big difference between epix and fenix was the display?:)
I am curious…..but honestly: What I really want is that the developer spend more time for proper software testing. Garmins hardware is great as well as the batterylife….nevertheless: Over the past years I have had several Garmin devices (Edge 500, 820, 1000 explore, 1020, 540, vivoactive, Forerunner 945 and now fenix 7x pro saphire solar as well as garmin power pedals 1st and 2nd gen). All of the devices I had have had softwarebugs so that I had to send them in. Well the customer support from Garmin is super friendly and they replaced my devices all the time for free. Nevertheless: Personally I think it’s a shame when you have so many devices from a company and all of them you had to send in at least once. My fenix 7x pro saphire came back a month ago…and now it has softwarebugs again….it’s a desaster
Thanks for the leak. And definitely better to watch a human... Getting fed up with the AI-generated crap out there... I wonder if Garmin will update the Marq Athlete too
Garmin is famous for using the same case and different features for each model. The dive depth on the displayed watch will probably be only on the descent model. Just my guess. Im still hoping for at least Bluetooth calling and speaker from watch.
I bought the Epix pro 51mm because I wasn’t interested in being able to make calls on my wrist, as an iPhone user to me the Apple Watch had nothing I want in a watch, I wanted a watch that spends most of its time on my wrist not on a charger. so I won’t be upgrading anytime soon based on what I’m hearing about the new Fenix aka Epix pro with a tune up. We will get any software updates that the new watches will get barring hardware specific anyway
Why, why oled?? I want my MIP display. People who need an Amoled, the can go for the epix. If this is true, then it is a big mistake, and Garmin will lose a lot of first adapters, which would normally change to the newer modell, but now many will keep their Fenix 7.
I have been using a forerunner 965 for 3 days. I probably will never use my Apple Watch. Predicted almost 60 days of battery on saving mode. That's crazy
Any change that noticeably reduces battery life without the ability to be turned off would be a deal breaker for me, and a reason to stay on the 7 Pro for as long as it keeps getting backported features from the 8.
Glad to see a video that’s *_not_* cheap AI and actually a person 😅

Personally, I was hoping that Garmin would change how the Fenix is charged!
I’ve wasted so much time fiddling with the cable, making sure it’s in exactly the right position & depth for it to effing charge!!
Are you sure you're not AI your hat is suspicious.
Hat is clearly just a hat. It even says so 😂
Clearly the orange accent piece between the Start and Back buttons is the housing for the Mic and possibly the speaker.
Enjoy your reviews - hoping for LTE also. Subbed and 👍
hi, very well made video, do you have the latest update for instinct 3? been very curious about the new instinct line up
Can't wait
Winfuture says there will be a fenix E (as Economy) with the old (MIP) display while all others are going to be amoled.
Get the synapse upgrade..wifi directly to memory😂😂
Looking forward ti the update but would have loved a wireless charging option.
I WILL NEVER UPGRADE FROM MIP TO OLED. EAT THAT, GARMIN
Downgrade*
Nice. 😎👍
Now that ive got what ive wanted for a long time which is a fenix level device with OLED display, not really sure what I want next from them apart from OLED displays on their GPSMAP lineup. There dosnt seem to be enough update over my Epix to upgrade.
Fenix level device with OLED? They’ve been had that, the Epix Pro
ECG would be nice
so is it actually an updated epix watch? where do i find the fenix parts because I thought the only big difference between epix and fenix was the display?:)
Not enough to upgrade my 7. Normally upgrade every 2 updates. Roll on Fenix 9
Nice one
All the upgrades mentioned on this video would welcome for me if is true that is. Iwould consider on pulling the trigger.
Subscribed 🎉
If it’s got dive capabilities, I’m upgrading!
If you squint, the bezel looks smaller on the Fenix 8 renders
Why, why oled?? I want my MIP display. People who need an Amoled, the can go for the epix. If this is true, then it is a big mistake, and Garmin will lose a lot of first adapters, which would normally change to the newer modell, but now many will keep their Fenix 7.
Do you think the enduro will also have the flashlight and be generally the better priced one?😊
I have been using a forerunner 965 for 3 days. I probably will never use my Apple Watch. Predicted almost 60 days of battery on saving mode. That's crazy
1:28 please help me find the face watch name. I would like to have this on my watch
Not sure why they would change the fenix to amoled when the epix is already there.
It seems like Garmin has combined the lineups and will keep the Fenix branding. No more Epix
Any change that noticeably reduces battery life without the ability to be turned off would be a deal breaker for me, and a reason to stay on the 7 Pro for as long as it keeps getting backported features from the 8.
Look good, top technology.
I want magnetic charge like the Garmin Marq, not that old plug😉
