Why can't Pakistan understand one simple fact of life !!! That there is nothing called a free lunch. You pay for every action whether its borrowing or subsidising or even recieving grants. And so long as you don't learn that lesson your economy will never do well...

First it's Shabbar Zaidi. Second it's not about "Pakistanis" digesting. It's about the Army and the corrupt government officials. Just because they have made wrong decisions that doesn't mean that's the analysis for the entire population. Just as Modi's views are not the views of the entire population of India. Shabbar zaidi is incredibly pro india and anti china to the point that he is against cpec but pro gulf Pakistan india pipeline.He uses concern of security with regards to chinese investment but forgets same would be an issue in the pipeline thing.. In 2018 he jumped up the property tax transaction from nothing to 20%.. a sane mind would gradually increment it but his actions sabotaged the whole idea regardless how sincere he was.. Similarly the smuggling thing needs time and cant go away overnight.his action were radical and even imran couldnt back him. I dont know what was he thinking when he thought smugglers would just start enrolling themselves in tax net. Smugglers only understand language of gun(operation azm e istehkam is against them), he should have kept bajwa in loop.
Not just IR his sense of history is also skewed.Since he is from india he thinks rest of Pakistanis would think along his lines.. Pakistan aur india ka khana /gana aik nahin hai shabbar bro...both are diverse countries with different cultures.
Regardless of all he gives an exceptional account of Pakistans economy he has identified several real issues.. and I will always give him credit for the track and trace thing approved under him..

I am surprised a paper like Dawan of Pakistan has reporters like Amamr Khan doing such programs without any home work.
While Zaidi Saheb has been saying the same things again and again, it's never delivered as crisply as he has done here.
Every Pakistani should listen to this. Not even the whole program but a ten minute portion.
1. Get rid of the ego, swallow the pride
2. Restructure internal debt (yes, the stock indices will collapse). Banks will go bankrupt. Let them. They will regenerate with new capital
3. Actively settle with India and Afg
3a. Build oil and gas popelines, even transit to India from ME
4. Develop a comprehensive manufacturing policy
5. Restructure foreign debt
6. Put some Indian advisors on the economic policy!
7. Invest in education. Reduce Madrassa economy by 97%

In coming 5 yrs India will be laying undersea oil and gas pipelines connecting KSA and Iran to meet its needs as they will be more safer and reliable compared to oil and gas pipelines coming over land from Pakistan. Moreover, it is perceived that Pakistan could play mischief by blocking pipeline supplies in the event of hostilities.
It will be in the best interest for Pakistan to vacate occupied territories of India and normalize relations for long term peace and prosperity.

You have your army to thank for this, which dug a hole so deep that you can never get out of. India is trying to have an independent foreign policy so we can choose who we can partner with and who to pause ties with, and we’ve been paying a heavy price for this. But since we haven’t taken loans from the imf etc left and right , we have made some progress here. With almost next to nothing to exports and pretty worthless currency, you have no chance of being independent. You know what to do to fix things, independence stop being a security state etc etc, but these things aren’t realistic. The foundation itself is wrong so all you can do it patch jobs. Cure is impossible at this stage.

I agree with many points discussed here, like divide the country by economic activity and competencies of the area.
Smaller administrative units(10- provinces). Most European countries are between 5 to 20 million people- it is easy to develop strategies for smaller units than 230 million single federal unit.

Mr Zaidi displays an astounding lack of understanding about local debt. Government cannot default on loans it has taken in a currency that is printed by the government. We must default on foreign loans now or else we will default on foreign loans later because they are in a currency we cannot print. This is not economics, it is accounting. And Mr Zaidi is a CA.😢

Anyone having 1000cc plus plus car must pay 1 lakh per month as surcharge. 1500cc 2 lakh per month as surcharge. 2000cc 5 lakh per month surcharge. 3000cc 15 lakh per month surcharge. House owners having greater than 1000 sq ft must pay 1 lakh per month as surcharge. 1500sq ft 2 lakh per month as surcharge. 2000ft 5 lakh per month surcharge. 3000ft 15 lakh per month surcharge. Flat 50% surcharge on land transaction above 1000 sq ft. This is how you tax the rich
Also anyone having more than 5 hectare Agriculture must pay 1 lakh per month as surcharge. 10 hectare 2 lakh per month as surcharge. 15 hectare 5 lakh per month surcharge. 20 hectare 15 lakh per month surcharge. if they are not paying, govt should confiscate excess hectare. it looks like communism but this the current solution right now
Also reduce concessions to army. reduce salary of army staff by 25%. Similarly for govt staff.

Those who consume less than 100 units, consume less than 10 litres of petrol, who earn less than 1 lakh PKR/ month are the ones who should be excluded of direct taxes. anyways indirect taxes are imposed upon them. There is no point of taxing them more

Have watched all the podcasts of Ammar where he is on the other side of the table and answering questions and on economic front he has said exactly what Shabbar Ji was saying. Only addition by Shabbar ji was ISPR, Toothless Pakistani Media, army etc. I remember Ammar saying that instead of transporting imported coal, transmission will be much cheaper if produced from thermal powerplant near karachi port even after factoring transmission loss. I being an economist completely agree with Shabbarji and Ammar.... but fail to understand why Pakistani Govt/army etc are not working on it.... i dont see any other option for Pakistan...

The powers that be do not want people employed and making things and I wonder if it is based on our "religious" mindset which says trading is sunnah or not taking any risk and being in the rent-seeking, non-productive use of capital mindset. The swindling/trading in plots, retail are all manifestations of this with zero value addition. When I say trading it is mostly internal because we do not seem keen to make anything worthwhile for export.
In india we have LSG local self govt that is panchayat and they are empowered under Panchayat Raj System introduced by the then PM Rajiv Gandhi
