I know that it was post Whitney Houston's version from The Bodyguard because Dolly's version always had a talk sing section that Whitney only sang. I looked up the song itself on Wikipedia and shockingly the duet with Vince Gill is not listed as one of the primary release versions. Does anyone have that information?
To me this song was always more poignant when sung by a man. Even the country version playing in the bar scene in “The Bodyguard” was excellent. All the women that have sung it did a great job, but I just wish Vince would have released this as a solo recording. It’s right up his alley.

I know Whitney's power ballad is iconic, and I appreciate her talent, but the gentler way Dolly and Vince sing it is the way it tugs my heart.
Imo, the lyrics of the song is more suited for a more reflective and quiet rendition as is in the case of Vince and Dolly.
Yes, I love Whitney but Dolly's and Vince's versions are full of emotions which really touch the listeners.
