Those other factors are exhaust size, intercooler piping size, size of the turbine housing, exhaust turbine to compressor wheel ratio, intake size, air filter size, the tune, how well the engine was built, etc.
in newer videos, and new meets. they are allowing them to change tires after they each do a impression or test run. each driver get 2 or 3 laps, to make changes etc. so once 3 drivers do 3 laps or so each (that if they are happy with setup, they may do more after changes) the tires were pretty shitty, and they were almost undrivable at the end. so now they allow them to change them before the actual races. which makes them much better :)
@@akioasakura3624 lol, yes it is. I wonder what my other comment was back then (since I said "also"). also, it's now been 3 more years. congrats on not being dead yet, me!
precisely. it was just loosing way too much traction in the low speed corners requiring traction and heavy throttle ramp up. the T04, allowed it to have a little lag, and would bring the power on later but allow more traction. mid corner and exits of corners with the GTR turbos they had to adjust throttle alot because of the quick response. with the t04, they would put the foot down with enough momentum to straighten it out, then the boost came on making it much more usable.
Fujita engineering runs a T04S, not a GT35R. I run a GT3574R in my rx7. These turbos and varients are not peaky at all. It has the smoothest flatest torque curve of most mid sized turbo's for rx7's.
"grey" car in the video, its called ガンメタ号 (gunmetal gou). the amemiya 7 hasn't changed much since this video, other than the green greddy body kit. still same tuning philosophy. FEED on the other hand changed their suspension set up, port tuning to the current nur-spec engine, and down sized the turbine to the TO4S for the Gunsai in 09. that car was crazy, but the 30th anniversary model (2012) is better.I got a 7 last year and finally received the finished FEED 7 last week!keeping it forever!
@seinfeld11123 Stock FD turbos are the same size 50mmx2 before 99 and 51mmx2 after... Its just the increase in CFMs as both turbos spin together af the top of the power band. So turbo #1 until ~3000 Turbo #2 starts to spool, but boost is held at 4500rpm the valve holding the second turbos pressure is released After that both turbos spool until redline/shift Hence the stock 10-8-10 boost pattern, the -8- is where the valve opens and a small difference causes the fluctuation.
The feed fd clearly lacked traction. Anytime the driver tried to pin the peddle to the floor it just broke loose. I'm sure the outcome would be different if the tires were bigger and stickier
it was because it spooled faster is why it was a little harder to drive. it would constantly want to drift mid corner. with the bigger turbo, they could drive it better.
I am unsure I understand what you are saying. If a ball bearing turbo spools faster, that means you have more power sooner in the rev range and most likely a flatter power curve. From Dyno's on rx7's that I have seen (I built my rx7) I see similar WHP curves from the GT 35 series, but the ball bearing turbo's have better transient response. They may spool a hair lower. There are many other factors that go into this.
This shows the different tuning philosophy's of each garage, The Blue one (RE AMEMIYA) uses stock twin turbos, just made to flow more, this allows the boost to be steady, and no so peaky, so its very drivable, its still putting out 400HP at the flywheel. The grey one, uses porting of the engine, together with a big turbo, a GT35R (a ball bearing turbo) these turbos spool fast, and dump huge amounts of power and very peaky, as u see its almost un drivable in tight roads
after this race, Fujita (grey one) changed the turbo setup to an older T04 turbo, its not ball bearing, and boost builds up thru the rev range, as opposed to being really peaky with the GT35R (the GT series turbos, are only good for Drag racing, big power and dumps it all at once) Once he changed it, the car was drivable on this road, and Beat the RE amemiya car, and now holds the Touge monster title
I looked up some dyno plots of 35R and 3574R and also a T04S. The t04S is no where close to the usable power as the 35/3574R models. The t04s has a massive huge hit in power between 4K and 5K rpms. 3K (72WHP) 4K (130WHP) 5K (350WHP) 6K (440WHP) 7K(430WHP) 8K (300WHP). The GT35R looks like this 3K (75WHP) 4K (225WHP) 5K (300WHP) 6K (375WHP) 7K (420) 8K (420)
@KarlheinzSchelker the show is Best Motoring which is mainly stock cars reviews and races, often on Tsukuba (it plays-print once a month, they have magasine, videos and dvd),... then the segment Hot Version that plays every 2 months, which features battles of TUNED cars (touge and race tracks), and some other segment called Video Special. which plays on a non regular basis and have episodes that mostly feature 1 car.
@seth570123 well to to be correct, it is technically Twin turbos, weather they operate sequentially of not the mechanism of action doesn't negate the fact there are 2 turbos. But yes you are 100% correct, they are sequential, meaning first turbo comes in very early (its quite small) and then it transitions over to the bigger one at 4000 rpm ish. for a sequential setup its very smooth if you have ever driven One you will kno wat im talking about
@seinfeld11123 The Amemiya car has 350hp and the FEED car has 500hp. You are correct in that while the Amemiya has much less it's power-band is much more usable. To be fair the Amemiya car was designed and built for touge use and the FEED car was built for circuit use.
@vortexau all the car's that are brought in for the Touge Battle are tuned for this specific track by the tuners themselves. FEED FD has been doing damages on this track for a long time given. And for this video it still has the same setup. The tuners give all they can in this segment of the tv show, its mainly watched for this in Japan. ( like in Top Gear we wanna se the Stig's lap). Amemiya FD is simply built better. And Amemiya would win on the track too. PS: nice FD, i love the NT03+m !!
@Evanofthecosmos absolutely here is the fujita car winning after he changed the turbo to more drivable set up ( ?v=jigavL3Uhs4 )Add utube com /watch then paste the link in the brackets, this is once the car was updated to the better turbo
have u seen the amuse S2000 V J's S2000?? its the normal S2000 not the GT1 version, that was the best race ever in this series, they were nose to tail the whole way.
It might better if FEED try their hands on drag race...turbo tune always get killed by NA tune on twisty mountain pass...as for the RE, it might be a good idea to use bigger engine if they wish to stay competitive in Super GT...
@zwartefd having trouble uploading the link here.. so seach "FEED 30 year anniversary model FD3S" its the first video that comes up.. sorry new to all this
RE-Amemiya's car handled much better, and the power delivery was suited to Gunsai much more than the FEED car which was too peaky. Put the cars on a real race track and the FEED car would drive away from the RE-A car given those setups. Love the sound of the FEED car though, so ANGRY!
also the only tuning company that thinks of aircon usage with the radiator/intercooler set up, may be a few grand more but worth it! the level mount, v-mount, and badly set up front mounted intercooler sets can really limit airflow to either the condenser, radiator, or intercooler and although they work, they work no where near as well as FEEDs!. aircon in amemiya 7s dun work! really bad for japan in the summer.
ive been watching these vids since day 1. initially they had a GT series on it, it was way to peaky. the ball bearing turbos spool much faster. when they changed to the older t04 is became more drivable . that's all im saying. there are older vids of it running the GT series, and its undrivable. have a watch, perhaps they weren't lowering the boost to factor in the better torque as you were saying, but after the change it started winning
wow both FD's are so sexy and fast as hell Amemiya FTMFW! Think the FEED FD had to big of turbo so laged after corners and had to brake to much just to slow down
wow the audio transcriber thingy majig is horrible. for a really long japenese sentence that at least lasted 4 or 5 seconds gave me a translation of "undoubtly"
