  • This DiMarzio Air Classic humbucker sounds extremely clear and chimes beautifully. It can also deliver a lot of richness and smoothness but never gets “woofy” or cluttered sounding.
    Just using an iPhone to record the room sound (and my wife is just zipping out to the store 😊)

    I have just fitted air classic neck and bridge to my ibanez rg . Not only are these pickups tonal bliss they appear to have brought out the guitars natural tone. I can't pick any reason why you would not be happy with the air classics , from clean tone to overdrive they deliver surprisingly well and do not lack in any area . I have tried and used many different pickups over a 40 year period and these air classics are now my holy grail.

      @@riffs66 Do you turn the "tone" potentiometer? In my guitar these pickups sound too sharp. Too much treble, not enough depth and bass.

      I've done the same on my guitar to have it split that way. How far away from the strings do you have yours? I think your guitar sound more stratty than mine.

I'm thinking about getting a pair of Dimarzio's.. was gonna go with an Air Zone in the bridge with an Air Norton in the neck.. but after hearing the tone's you're getting herein the Air Classic is really winking at me. Did you raise any of the screws to get that single coilish sound? Seems like if I orient the pickup like yours it sounds more like a humbucker the lower the screws are. If oriented the other way round the screws are as low as possible for me to make it sound like a single coil.

    Just noticed your pole pieces on your neck are not closest to the neck. Why is it installed like that?

    • @riffs66
      @riffs66  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was necessary to install it that way, so that when the pickup is split it hum cancels with the other pickups, and the active coil is closest to the neck.

    • @Trenchant463
      @Trenchant463 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@riffs66 Interesting - I thought in split coil the adjustable pole piece side was active. Glad to know! The sounds are really warm but with presence on top. I’m considering moving the a Duncan Jazz to this for more mid warmth. Thanks!!

    • @riffs66
      @riffs66  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can have either side active when split (depending on what wires you connect) but the slug coil on this pickup is magnetically opposite the Suhr single coil so that’s why I needed it to be the active coil (to hum cancel with the middle pickup) 🙏🏻

    what pots are you using here?

    • @riffs66
      @riffs66  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just the stock pots Suhr uses. I believe they use resistors on the pickup selector to vary the value from 250 to 500 depending on which position is active.
