    Great review of the updates Kevin. You are my go-to guy for detailed Honda reviews. I have had 2 CBR500R's and can't pull away to the 650r as these 500's seem to get the majority of updates. The sticker price is always minimally increased. The front end is basically the 650r now. And lets face it, fuel consumption is becoming an issue! I'd love to see a rear fender to keep grit off the shock, even as an accessory. I think I'll go 22 MY on this machine again.

    Most people don't get that when you are a really tall person, the Ninja400 ain't no option, but the CBR500R is.

    • @101BadBreath
      @101BadBreath ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree, I am 5ft 9 on Ninja 400 and comfortable but feel like it would be cramped for 5ft 10 and up. I do wish they would try shave a little bit more weight off the CBR and still keep it A2 licence friendly... but sounds like they have done some tweeks to liven up the handling. I am recommending this bike for my 5ft 11 friend who is a new rider.

    • @DerWaldBistDu
      @DerWaldBistDu ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@101BadBreath indeed. I own both the 2022 CBR500R and a 2020 Ninja 400 as a tall person (more than 6ft). Prior to the 2022 CBR500R I had the 2021 CBR500R. So I really experienced this upgrade. I found it to be a massive huge improvement. I ride the CBR500R daily. The Ninja400 for me is like a sportscar I ride on Sundays when I feel like it. Due to my height, its completely impossible to ride the Ninja400 long distance or daily, and I am a fully capable welltrained midaged person. This aspect gets zero attention on any internet review when it comes to CBR500R vs. Ninja400. Yes the Ninja is more fun, but most reviewers seem to be shorter humans.

    • @101BadBreath
      @101BadBreath ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 2018 Ninja 400 (Sunday breakfast runs and short fun blasts) and CFMOTO 300sr (commuter and starter bike for girlfriend to learn on)... That Ninja 400 is blast of bike that edges you on to push push push... CFMOTO hella chill lol... But riding these little bikes is one of the few times that being 5ft 9 is a blessing lol

    • @DerWaldBistDu
      @DerWaldBistDu ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@101BadBreath yeah thats fun we seem to have a very similar setup. The CBR500R is simply chill as well, compared to the Ninja. Its also a more upright position compared to the Ninja so long distance is no problem for me. There is a point to be made about slightly boring bikes that simply do their job as a commuter. Like, I would not go around claiming the CBR500R is the coolest bikes ever, but I know it does the job well, and thats great, and then thats it. It kinda makes no sense comparing it to those special bikes intended for sundays only, like the Ninja. Those are two different use cases. Like, I wouldn't take a ferrari to the grocery store.

    I love the changes. I think Honda should have a twin cylinder that competes with the Yamaha 700cc twin. Bump it up to 700cc and then bump up the CB300R to 400cc.
    That being said, my long time motorcycling neighbor loves the motor in his CB500X.

      @@HondaProKevin woops, yeah kinda showing my age. Last time I had a Mustang was the other time they dropped the v6 for an i4. But hey, even my GT was barely pushing 200hp back then.
      In all seriousness that little 500 is a pretty solid engine and I have zero complaints about it in my cb500x.

      @@willyjimmy8881 Oh yeah, I forgot about them doing that back in the day too! It's wild how times have changed, back then 200hp was something to write home about in the GT platform but now if it's not pushing 500+ horsepower then it's considered a joke. Whether it be cars or bikes, it's crazy how the performance levels have changed over the years and what was considered fast, not that many years ago, compared to now.
      Oh yeah, this engine is hard to beat and 99% of owners absolutely love it and it's easy to see why Honda is hellbent on throwing it in as many models as they can.

    Sadly the much cheaper Ninja 400 will still smoke this 500.

      I wouldn't say "smoke" but it'll definitely win in a drag race with identical riders on the seat. The Ninja 400 is no joke and we're lucky to have as many options as we do in this segment, it makes each manufacturer continue to step it up.

      @@HondaProKevin Ninja 400 is also a track weapon with it's shorter wheelbase and is 60lb lighter than this cbr500r. What are you really getting for $7200?

      @@quanwick4516 A much better street bike. Sat on both today. The riding position on the Honda is better for larger riders. I'm 5'11" and the CBR would be good for sport OR touring. The Ninja 400 bars are closer and higher placing me very upright; not good for sport riding and catching all the wind, so not good for longer rides. The longer wheelbase and extra weight of CBR are a positive for anything other than pure track riding. An extra front disc is something every rider can appreciate, and the seat isn't sloped as on the Ninja. If I was wanting a track bike, definitely the Ninja and I'd rework the ergos with clip-ons to start, but for an all around sport bike for the street, I like the CBR.

      @@GripEngineering Thank you for taking the time out of your day for schooling me. I've ridden the previous generation and it was very disappointing that's why I was judgmental with this one thinking it will behave the same since it still has the same engine.

      @@quanwick4516 Well, this one isn't going to be quicker, but overall acceleration levels are just one aspect of how a bike fits our intended riding. Some of my favorite sport bikes have been shootout "losers", but they fit my needs perfectly. A Ninja 400 may be the best machine for your goals; just wanted to share what I learned from checking out the machines this morning.
