    The USA's Athing Mu won the women's 800m final at #Tokyo2020 in incredible fashion, finishing in a national record of 1:55.21. The 19-year-old was in a class of her own, streaking away from the field to set the fastest time of the year. Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson, herself 19, ran brilliantly to win silver in a British national record of 1:55.88, with Raevyn Rogers of the USA finishing third (1:56.81) after an immense final 50 metres saw her run through the field to win bronze.
    🥇 Athing Mu 🇺🇸 1:55.21
    🥈 Keely Hodgkinson 🇬🇧 1:55.88
    🥉 Raevyn Rogers 🇺🇸 1:56.81

    That long stride of Athing Mo is a thing of beauty. It takes a really special athlete to dominate the half mile from start to finish and this teenager is going to dominate for years to come. The rivalry with the other teenage prospect Keely Hodgkinson is just what the Women's 800 metres needs at the moment.

      what are they waiting for ? money is there ......but they need to invest in structures like in Jamaica or Bahamas + specific junior programmes to locate and support the best talents maybe ? the Us has a very fine pool of talent + NCAA system . They just did not peak well this time around ( specially the men ) because of their intense Trials competition and long season .

    Athing Mu and Keely Hodgkinson are the two most thrilling and charismatic of the new age of track stars. Their rivalry, begun in earnest here, could potentially define women's running to global audiences for the next decade. That they happen to be the same age only adds to the possibility that they might push their event into a golden age. The women's 800 meter World Record is the oldest (and one of the most suspect) in all of athletics, and they could be the first clean (we pray) athletes to surpass it.

    Mu is brilliant! She carries on as if it’s a walk in the park. From a distance, her physical form and current age suggest she has the capacity to set new records. If I had the opportunity, I’d strongly advise she does it now.
    The commentators always find it convenient to trace the history of the Athletes, especially, when they are not representing Britain.
    When they represent Britain, the commentators are very silent about their trajectory and pretend they have been British forever. Such hypocrisy!

    • @gidug2250
      @gidug2250 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you have examples?
      When I watch here in the UK, it is never a secret. For example Mo Farah one of our most celebrated and supported athletes, it was never ignored about his Heritage of being born in Somalia and moving to London was he was a young boy…..
      Porter the hurdler, was born and raised in the US. Yamile Aldama, born in Cuba, respesented, Cuba, Sudan and then GB.
      I only know this from listening to the commentators.
