This. This is why I will always insist that video games need live events. There is no cringe here, just pure unfiltered joy.

Yeah there's something to a live crowd's genuine reaction that helps you get into the whole thing. It's true for wrestling too, watching WWE with a silent crowd feels dull, compared to AEW where the fans are always cheering or chanting something.

I’m an old enough fart that I remember watching this live. That trailer was probably one of my favorite E3 moments next to the reveal of the Nintendo DS. Even though we all loved Wind Waker we definitely craved the more adult Link in a darker Hyrule. Those days are gone. It’ll never be like it was back then and I’m grateful I got to experience it.

You really have to know what was going on in the world of Zelda at this time. There were a lot of people upset with the artistic approach that Wind Waker took and wanted a style more like Ocarina of Time. God this was just incredible at the time.
What you have to remember is despite the fanfare and love Wind Waker received, there was still a craving for a more realistic and mature Zelda.
It all stems from the first Zelda tech demo shown at SpaceWorld in 2000. Everyone was expecting Zelda to look as it did then, but were bit caught off guard the following year when Wind Waker was first unveiled.
Twilight Princess truly was the answer to that.

@@dustylee9234 That doesn't take away their value though. Sure, Wind Waker still looks great and would look great if it released today, but it doesn't make me appreciate Twilight Princess any less. And it's not nostalgia speaking, as I had completely ignored the Zelda franchise until the Switch.

@@NickJerrison not really sure what you mean about "value". I'm talking specifically about how the cell shaded style of the wind waker has aged considerably better than the blurry brown and grey graphics of TP. However, the wii u remaster of both games really helped them both shine on modern televisions imo. I've been zelda fan since 1989 and love every single one of the entries (although Zelda 2 I struggle with). But its plain the see which ones have, GRAPHICS WISE, stood the test of time. Majora is my favorite entry, and that game looks awful these days. The 3DS version thankfully helps it out tremendously. But yeah, if by "value" you mean gameplay or story, then ALL of the games are amazing. But a lot of the "realistic" 3D titles look very dated nowadays. That's why nintendo went back to that cell shaded look for BOTW, and it looks great. And it always will.

@@dustylee9234 Yeah, didn't understand your original comment properly. I agree, TP didn't age nearly as well graphics wise, I just fear how it can be enough to throw off any players who've never played it before simply because of that.

    • @dustylee9234

@@NickJerrison ah yeah I gotcha. I dont think it will, or I hope not at least. TP was one of the last entries I played and I really loved it. I played the wii u version and thought the graphic looked great. I think Nintendo has the right idea trying to put fresh faces of paint on older entries so as to bring in new players to the classic games. And if "old" graphics do put off some players then those people are better off sticking to the latest ubisoft title or something. Luckily, I think the indie trend, and nintendo, has shown that graphics are a really small part of what can make a game great. And sometimes gamers actively look for low poly or pixel games specifically simply because they prefer that aesthetic. So it looks like gaming trends are changing in a positive way.
