This is why I loved E3. Those moments. Huge surprises. No major public leaks. Before the internet idiots started to count the polygons the moment the trailer leaked a week before the presentation. Just pure joy in the moment.
Of course, I’m very familiar with Basil Poledouris’ work. I meant in the context of Zelda, the Riders of Doom theme was used several years previously for the Ocarina of Time trailer, which gave it away as soon as the theme started.
I’m an old enough fart that I remember watching this live. That trailer was probably one of my favorite E3 moments next to the reveal of the Nintendo DS. Even though we all loved Wind Waker we definitely craved the more adult Link in a darker Hyrule. Those days are gone. It’ll never be like it was back then and I’m grateful I got to experience it.
You know why this is epic? Because those were REAL emotional reactions, not like nowadays, where most youtubers overact too much. Truly one of the most epic and emotional moments in videogame history.

You really have to know what was going on in the world of Zelda at this time. There were a lot of people upset with the artistic approach that Wind Waker took and wanted a style more like Ocarina of Time. Then Nintendo drops this trailer, reusing the music samples from Conan the Barbarian. That ending shot of Link sheathing his sword is still super epic!
God this was just incredible at the time. What you have to remember is despite the fanfare and love Wind Waker received, there was still a craving for a more realistic and mature Zelda. It all stems from the first Zelda tech demo shown at SpaceWorld in 2000. Everyone was expecting Zelda to look as it did then, but were bit caught off guard the following year when Wind Waker was first unveiled. Twilight Princess truly was the answer to that.
Honestly I love both games because of their art styles, I love windwaker.because of the.cartoony look and cel.shading, and I also love Twilight Princess because of its.darker more mature themed/art style

Watching this makes me so happy. These are real emotional and genuine reactions to a reveal. It was fun to see a true reaction knowing that a game and its fanbase go strong. With the screaming, jumping TH-camrs these days I just quit watching reaction videos.
Let this speak volumes for ocarina of time. People have to understand or remember that this reveal showed the long awaited and wanted spiritual successor to OOT. The world was blown away to see the next gen game to ocarina.
too bad nearly 20 years later and we can't have a true follow up to Twilight Princess. Instead all we get are Skyrim and Elder Scrolls clones, or even Breath of the Wild as Tears just cloned its own predecessor! And Nintendo fanboys are eating it up like candy.

I've watched this trailer and the E3 trailer like almost religiously, probably the most hyped I've been for a game. Nothing can recreate that anticipation I had for games anymore.

I was really young when this came out, Twilight Princess was my first Zelda game when I got a Wii on my 8th birthday, and at the time I was just playing this scary but really cool game my sister's boyfriend gave to me, I didn't knew what was I getting into, but seeing this gaves me nostalgia for memories that I don't even have, thanks for this amazing saga nintendo
I will never be more hype for a video game than I was for this trailer. And I don't think any of the people in that room will either, judging by their reaction.
These people at the beginning, getting up and leaving the room, thinking there won't be anything too interesting coming and it's more important to get out quickly and probably reserve some place in front of a demo station or something.... And then they are missing one of the most epic moments in E3 history.

This is why I will forever be a Nintendo fan. A COD game may sell 20 million copies a year at $150 per copy why a Zelda game may take 4 years of development and only sell 3 million. The developers at Nintendo are not making games to get rich. They truly love their job and just want to create their magnum opus. They develop their games for the joy of making a fun game.
IMO I think people were extra hyped about this because it was a return to "realistic" Zelda that a lot of fans thought they were getting with what turned out to Wind Waker. Which was not a bad game at all just very different from what the first look at next gen Zelda would be.
And now The Wind Waker is one of the most highly regarded zelda games ever, and its graphics have aged much better than the "realistic" looking zelda games.

I'm talking specifically about how the cell shaded style of the wind waker has aged considerably better than the blurry brown and grey graphics of TP. However, the wii u remaster of both games really helped them both shine on modern televisions imo. I've been zelda fan since 1989 and love every single one of the entries (although Zelda 2 I struggle with). But its plain the see which ones have, GRAPHICS WISE, stood the test of time. Majora is my favorite entry, and that game looks awful these days. The 3DS version thankfully helps it out tremendously. But yeah, if by "value" you mean gameplay or story, then ALL of the games are amazing. But a lot of the "realistic" 3D titles look very dated nowadays. That's why nintendo went back to that cell shaded look for BOTW, and it looks great. And it always will.

I think Nintendo has the right idea trying to put fresh faces of paint on older entries so as to bring in new players to the classic games. And if "old" graphics do put off some players then those people are better off sticking to the latest ubisoft title or something. Luckily, I think the indie trend, and nintendo, has shown that graphics are a really small part of what can make a game great. And sometimes gamers actively look for low poly or pixel games specifically simply because they prefer that aesthetic. So it looks like gaming trends are changing in a positive way.
