    My parents' and I did the "Your Day at Universal" experience in ~'93. I was wearing a blue shirt that day, and they lent me a white Universal studios t-shirt, but it didn't fully cover my blue shirt, so my head and arms look to be not attached to my body. I still have the tape, I'm going to go watch it and have a good laugh!

    I got to do the Hollywood one when I was in high school. I was the Enterprise's engineering bridge duty officer, which was that portside console next to the turbolift door that actually opened. One person was deliberately told to throw themselves in the opposite direction of everyone else during the attack scene.

    Fun fact: Tom Petty held a listening party for his 1989 record, Full Moon Fever, on the bridge of the Enterprise here.

    I was a part of the Hollywood Studios version, and was cast as one of the Klingons. Barely missed out on winning the growl-off (and the guy who got the role of Captain told me that I should have won). I don't remember the year, but it was before 1992, since despite being over 6', I needed my mom to sign off on the consent form, as I was still too young to sign legal documents. I definite stood out, since I couldn't be without my glasses and hope to not run into things, to say nothing of being able to read the cue card. I thought it was a great experience, and had a lot of fun doing it. I still have the videocassette, and I keep thinking that I need to get it digitized someday.
    As a side note, many years later, my wife and I were on vacation in Florida, and were doing 'Lunch With An Astronaut' at Cape Canaveral. I struck up a conversation with the guy next to me, and it turns out he helped make the Klingon costumes for the Star Trek Adventure in Hollywood when it opened.

    Never had a chance to experience this but it's so delightfully cheesy. I whole heartedly agree Star Trek is drastically under utilized in theme parks these days. I remember going to Great America here in California when they had Farenghi and Klingons walking around interacting with us guests. Really utilized their intellectual properties really well. They could easily land a great deal again with another theme park company to do a motion based dark ride. Easily tons of workable ideas that can be done with this.

    Yes! I can't wait for the Poseidon's Fury episode! I know the attraction doesn't seem like much with today's technology, but I've always found it to be Charming. I wish they would have kept better care of it and renovated some what

    • @JuriAmari
      @JuriAmari 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My favorite part was the water tunnel. I think if they rewrote the narrative and made some more interactive experiences (like go deeper into the initial archaeology idea but have the audience solve the puzzles), it would’ve done a whole lot better. I went when I was 13 when they updated the story to where Poseidon was saving the audience from Ares/Zeus. Apparently the original iteration was Poseidon trying to attack us (which makes way more sense). But the former gave more opportunities for different effects so I see why they changed it

  • @rjkral
    @rjkral 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Seeing the Hollywood live version in the audience I thought it was cheesy as heck. However on the other hand the little jokes and sheer amount of “volunteer” involvement was so slick that I even wondered if it wasn’t really audience volunteers but actual actors in some those parts. How did they make folks disappear on stage?! And a little kid at the end of the line had a perfectly timed joke of saluting the wrong way before vanishing. So on a later visit I decided I’d love to be IN it and find out! Especially if I could be in the transporter scene to experience how it was done. As good fortune would have it I was chosen to be in the experience PLUS also got to be in that exact scene. It was EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE behind the scenes to watch and be a part of just how VERY well organized it was back stage, with brand new recruited audience members being shown exactly what to do extremely quickly etc. Including again, a little kid volunteer they trained quickly on the spot to do that salute joke. The transporter effect was awesome to actually experience on stage. We walked out and followed our cues. We couldn’t see the audience, but as we “disappeared “ we could gradually see the audience then we could walk off having disappeared! Must have been a one way screen or glass pane of sorts that they could switch or activate, that if you could see them they couldn’t see you and visa versa. I was extremely impressed by just how much went into it and how well organized it all was. I bought my extremely expensive vhs!

      Btw I additionally was in that scene where we attacked each other with huge “rocks” on the planet. I deliberately repeatedly kept hitting my opponent right in the crotch wondering if they’d instruct me to please do otherwise. They let it go and it was filmed that way 😂

    In 1986 at Universal Hollywood I got chosen to be part of a scene based on the movie 2010 (the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey). At that point they were doing scenes from several different movies, the most memorable one being from E.T. where they put some kid on a bicycle and made him fly through the air.
    The 2010 scene was a lot of fun as we got to climb into space suits and be flown around on wires recreating a space walk scene. It was all really high tech stuff for 1986 and a highlight of my vacation to be sure.

    In the 90’s at Universal in California, I and another person in the audience were chosen to do a scene in front of a blue screen, we were tethered on wires above the sound stage in space suits and appeared to be space walking outside of our ship among the stars.
    I’m sure there were probably voice overs to poke fun of us, but I sure had a blast.😊

The one in Orlando struck me as the most interesting actually because the actors having had to film things special for it. My name is Chris. I was one of the directors at the Universal Florida Star trek Adventure. I directed the VERY LAST Star Trek Adventure on New Year's Eve 1995! I wanted it that way, because being a director there was the BEST job in the whole park. The last video made was for two gentlemen from South Africa, one was Caucasian, the other was African. The African played the captain. I feel the program ended just the way Gene Roddenberry would've wanted it, with an African playing the lead role, and the two from a country with a tarnished history of Apartheid. P.S. I still have the "Studio 6 Star Trek Adventure" sign in my possession as well as one of the Starfleet uniforms!

    I did the Florida version with my brother in 1991. We hammed it up, and maybe one day we'll post the digitized version :)

    Omg, in the 90s my dad got to be the Klingon Captain and, I swear to god, he had the picture on his desk until he passed away earlier this year.

    I did this attraction as a teen with my late uncle.I played the Vulcan officer. Sadly, I lost the VHS many years ago. It was amazing.

    I was in one of the Great Chase attraction shows. I was a "stunt double" for the western bank robbers and had to jump into a tank of warm water with about 3 other people. I still have the VHS cassette that I had bought somewhere.

    Star Trek has been ao underrated in popculture as of late, but wuth the rise of talk and people getting tired of no new themed attractions I hope we start to see an uptick, soon - I'm only 22 so I have yet to experience anything besides a TV show! Lol

    I did this with my girlfriend at the time at Universal Studios Hollywood. She was on the Enterprise as the helmsman and I got to be a Klingon on the Bird of Prey. Now I just need to find my old VHS copy.

    Yes I'd love another Star Trek ride somewhere. I would have preferred that rather than galaxy's edge.

    I’m not even a big Trek fan, but I could listen to that TNG theme all day. I didn’t even know this was a thing at a Universal Park.

    I reckon, a ride with intractable elements of a functioning bridge i.e. the various consoles could make for an incredible Star Trek experience. I was thinking, why not make a real Kobayashi Maru sim ride. Essentially, a video game but with screen accurate functioning consoles. The helm console, Captain's chair, Comms, Ops, and Weapons. All of them on an aircraft sim rig. I know that the VR game exists, but this would be real and could feel real with the simulator.
