When I went on this experience last, the guide Taylor made one of the best meta-jokes I’ve ever heard. When they shone the UV light on the wall and found the hidden writings, he said “Look! A hidden message! Written... in English... conveniently.” I’d been on it several times and not heard that, but that last time they made that joke and I couldn’t stop giggling through the rest of the show
Disney wisely decided against doing the Haunted Mansion as a walkthrough attraction because they feared that guests would “linger” too long. Also, the “doombuggys” control where the rider’s attention is focused so Disney can concentrate all the best effects in one place during each scene. Poseidon’s Fury should have been a boat ride.

Another fantastic video! I experienced this attraction in "preview mode" in 1999. It was incredible. Once they changed the story and some of the effects, I wasn't the biggest fan of it. I would walk through that attraction just to watch people's faces at the end, just looking at the confusion as to how it ended.
One time, years ago, my wife let our the worst fart of her life towards the end of the queue for this. It was completely enclosed, far away from the entrance. Everyone in that room was visually disturbed. My wife was laughing hysterically, which everyone of course noticed. So who are they going to blame, my small not even 6 ft wife, or the big 6 ft 3 fatty next to her. ME OF COURSE!! People were pointing at me in absolute disgust. I just hope the little girl at ass height behind my wife recovered, because she took the most damage.
I’ve been to IoA several times over the past 20 years, but never visited this attraction. I’ve never known whether it was a ride or a show. The entrance, although impressive, never had anyone walking in, so I’ve always assumed it was never worth visiting. Maybe next time I’ll pop in.
With all those Water and Fire effects, I kind of wished they did an extreme rebranding to Avatar the Last Airbender in that area. Especially since netflix is going to do a live action reboot. I see resurgence interest in that IP.
@@e-manr.486 Thanks. I was also thinking they could create Avatar themed food stalls too. Just imagine Uncle Iroh's (bubble) Tea, Egg Custard Tarts (Aang's fav), Cabbage merchant's cabbage rolls. @@keithwellerlounge74 Films? It's a cartoon. Also I hate to break it to you, but IPs are the cornerstone of the Themepark industry at the moment. You see there's this small indie animation studio called Disney, you may have heared of them.
I went through this as a little kid, but way too young to remember it. All I could recall was the water corridor, which for a long time I thought was a part of a dream. As I went through it as an adult, I was blown away it was something real.
We finally were able to "ride" this last December 2019 for the first time. The Taylor we had was male and he was so into his job as the bumbling assistant explorer (or whatever his position was). I didn't care much about the outdated cinematic and effects. We really enjoyed this walk through because of the person who played Taylor.
I stumble upon this attraction this past year while visiting the park for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Taylor had a kid in the audience "help" guide the other guests, and they really played off the cheesiness. Plus, not expecting the water vortex made it super impressive. With some upgrades to battle video I think it could be a super cool attraction.
I will admit, I grew up with this attraction with the second one and I loved this very much. Sure it's not for everybody, but it was my favorite attraction.
I am in the love group of the original. Yes the story was a bit wonky; however the effects made up for it. It is hard to describe just how amazingly to have that room reappeared at the end.
I went on this when I was about 5, and every time I've been back I've made an effort to go back on it. A couple times elements didn't work but last time I went, the water tunnel was operational, all the lasers worked, everything was exactly like it was back then and the magic was back for me. This was in 2017 I think. I hope this ride gets the love it deserves.
I love Poseidon’s Fury so much! 🔱 All of the Lost Continent has some of the most beautiful and immersive theming. I also really enjoy special effects shows like this, they’re always a nice break from rides and… screens.
Went there last week for the first time and this ride made me full on cry with laughter Its so cheesy that it goes full circle and becomes incredible again
Glad to know this still exists. I was there over 10 years ago before Harry Potter World was built. I assumed this whole section was taken over by Harry Potter stuff since Dueling Dragons became a Harry Potter attraction. Mythos restaurant’s food was and is the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.
I vividly remember asking my parents to go on this attraction when we went back in 2016 and my dads response was “I’m not walking through no water tunnel again” , now I know why
We went to Universal in August 2016, and this was definitely my favorite attraction! I had no clue what it was but went on it nonetheless and was so surprised at how technically advanced it seemed!
It was and still is dear to my heart!!! I remember being a kid and freaking loving it!! Then I came back and I think the nostalgia made it easy to keep loving it!
Although it would be cool to see this attraction be replaced by a Zelda themed one, this concept is just too good to not at least give a new spin on. (But a Breath of the Wild version of the concept would be cool. The temple facade could be changed to Hyrule castle, instead of finding the trident , you’d have to find the master sword and the final battle could be an epic showdown between Link and Calamity Ganon)
That'd sell with Nintendo fans, but wouldn't fit in this particular park. As someone who actively dislikes Zelda games, I'd stay away from it, so I imagine the average parkgoer would be just as lukewarm towards a Zelda attraction as the current one.
I saw the Goddard version of this attraction in 2012 and loved it. Was it state of the art? Definitely not, but the cheesy script and acting was amusing, Taylor having a conversation with the obviously pre-recorded video of Darkenon was hilariously awkward, the musical score was gorgeous, and the original special effects still worked like a charm. That Oracle Door and water tunnel were amazing, and the room changing around me before my eyes was magical. My glasses fogging up while I stayed dry while walking through the tunnel added to the fantasy of the attraction. Definitely well worth the 20 minutes it took to experience.
honestly, i personally love this attraction. Going over from the UK i love the use of its effects, especially using the big blinder to cause peoples eyes to adjust, meaning they wont see the walls moving up. A lot of people say it should be a boat ride, or that it should be a roller coaster or stuff like that but i personally like the change of pace from all of the other rides. there are more than enough rollercoasters and boat rides in Orlando, let alone in the world, and there are just so few fully immersive rides like this one is. Realistically, i would call it a promenade theatre show since it involves you walking between different specially built sets to tell the story (which is basically the definition of a promenade show) and at the end of the day, promenade shows simply aren't for everyone. the majority of negative reviews i have seen are never about the experience itself but people complaining that they had to walk around. To be honest i could right a full 2 page review on this show. in fact i did. i had to write a review on a show to get into my university (as a lighting technician) and i chose this ride as it has really stuck with me. honestly the only thing i even think is comparable for this type of attraction is the Alton Towers dungeons but even on that the boat ride to me just feels a bit out of place with nothing much happening of any relevance. If this were to go i would be very sad, to put it simply. especially if they removed the expanding room effect.
It’s weird how you forget something even existed until your reminded. I’ve seen this show a few times and had a vivid flashback/memories once I watched this. Damn your channel is good. Defunctland is one of my favorites and I’m happy I have another now too.
I've only gone once, but I had thought that it would be a water ride, but me and my family were disappointing with the result. was good if you want to cool down on a hot summer day in Florida.
This ride definitely surprised me. I went to Universal in September of 2019, and didn't even know it existed until I got a map on day 1. My family went on one of the walkthroughs, and now I anxiously await for when I return with my friends in June to hopefully go on this journey with them. I was definitely a fan.
Sounds like a case where the people behind the attraction were too into the experience and didn't put themselves into the shoes of the people who were paying to see it. A short video explaining everything, to include that this is a special effects show, not a ride in a very generic room would have made it work. "This is the story of Poseidon, the god of the sea, and this is his story, you will be teleported...Twice". People are simple creatures, but if they know what to look for ahead of time, then things make a lot more sense to them. I spent four years as a flight instructor and from this I have learned to put myself in other people's positions. I found that if I did that, and SHUT MY MOUTH when they were trying to perform a maneuver with the airplane then they did far better.
So glad you did this vid. I "experienced" this attraction on day 3 of a 5 day, 5 parks vacation in 2016. This was the only ride break down we witnessed during that excruciatingly humid July visit. The door into the final chamber malfunctioned and didn't open. Our guide excused himself and disappeared for what seemed like several minutes. We all stood there, with the water tunnel still roaring behind us, making the room feel particularly dank, as we nervously waited for something to happen. Suddenly an emergency light clicked to our right, illuminating an exit door. A voice over the PA system advised us to use it as our way out. That was it, no apology, no banter with the now missing guide, nothing. It was a bit jarring to suddenly stumble back out into the Florida sun and heat, mid-experience. Needless to say it set the tone for the for the rest of our stay at Universal and I was rather happy to find myself back in the Magic Kingdom the following day. With your vid I finally got to see not just how the ride might have ended but also how it was intended to originally be experienced. Thanks!
This show is amazing. It's the best experience at islands (and I have been on all the potter rides). The finally is simply breathtaking. There is simply nothing like it in the world. While yes, it does need a refurbishment badly, it's simply breathtaking from the time you see the exterior to the very end.
I would love to try both versions of this ride it really sounds right up my alley these cheesy walk through shows. I loved the one in Portaventura templo del fuego even though it was mostly in Spanish I got the idea of the story
I haven’t gone to universal or islands of adventure since I was 5. But I do remember when we went 8 fell asleep in my stroller and when I woke up my family was pushing me down the water vortex tunnel. I didn’t know where the hell I was and I seriously thought I was going to another dimension. But when I finally saw the show I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

This is the only Lost continat attraction around i remember when it was a Little Bigger and had the flying unicorn and dueling dragons and eigth voyage of Sinbad
I went on this when i was younger, and my dad had left his sunglasses in a room as we started to move on and I literally cried because I was so worried the doors would close and he'd be stuck inside the room we had just left and that is quite literally the only thing that made an impression on me about this ride
Took 3 different trips to IOA to finally see this. First time it was shut down to be a HHN house that was honestly the best of that year. Next time it was out of service for indeterminate length across visit window which may have been the revamp. Finally on the 3rd try it was up but ooof you could feel the years of bad history the kept return visitors away as even in the heat of the day it took a while for them to get a group large enough to even start the show.
When I went through Poseidon's Fury for the first time last year, I definitely did wish that it lived up to the fantastically impressive exterior. The water vortex was very close, though. I hope they think to redo it on less of a time & budget crunch.
Ironically, I've heard that the water vortex tunnel is actually the thing keeping Poseidon's Fury together, in more ways than one. Not only is it the star effect of the show, but it may actually be too expensive to remove from the area and too delicate to build a new attraction around. They wanted the latest tech for what they believed would be a headliner attraction, and that tech may actually have turned into an anchor for an old but awesome classic attraction.
If the land was rethemed to harry potter, the water vortex could be repurposed in a great chamber of secrets ride Ultimately this area will eventually be repurposed but likely not until long after epic universe opens
They could just move the tunnel for hp if needed. It would be amazing for a chamber of secrets ride, maybe pretending to be another basilisk or something.
Jed Mitchell To be fair, Harry Potter has enough attractions in IOA. Of anything, they should retheme Fast and Furious to a Harry Potter attraction, and use the lost continent area for a new movie that might fit the old landscape of The Lost Continent a bit better.
We often walked by this one because we had no idea anything was in there. We really enjoyed it when we finally went in but now it’s a good place to escape the heat for tourists
Expedition Theme Park just realized this was 30 minutes long ... at the end of the video😂 great work and video as always kept me interested the whole time
Technifex did all the effects for the Adventurer's Club as well, that would be a great subject for a video (they have some great behind the scenes photos and footage on the Technifex site)
A part of Disney's old Pleasure Island. I never got to go, but just know it was a hilarious, interactive experience themed to an old explorer's hangout.
That final fight scene and the lady above the door made me think I was being teleported to the 70s the first time I went through this. Now I just go through and giggle. It does scare some of the kids though, which is always fun. Thanks for all the great background information!
When my friends and I first saw this place, I wasn't even sure it was an attraction, because we didn't see anyone going in. But we managed to find the entrance and decided to give it a shot, having utterly no idea what to expect. Was it a ride? Was it a show? Who knows! It was probably one of the highlights of our trip because it was the most ridiculously cheesy thing I had ever seen. It felt super dated but we were impressed with the effects. And the fact it wasn't based on any movie or IP just kinda' made it this weird little oddball thing. I recommend it to all of my friends who go to Universal because it's such a weird surprise.
I remember the Lost Continent being my favorite part of the Islands of Adventure back when my school's Marching band was there for a competition. Poseidon's Fury was definitely part of that because of how cool the effects were and how delightfully cheesy the story was.

I just hope the little girl at ass height behind my wife recovered, because she took the most damage.
knokout1 now THAT puts the magic in the kingdom
💀💀💀🤣🤣😭 OMG! The last part got me
After all, special effects are what made universal special!
If that's true, I think you and your wife are a great couple together, you deserve each other.
knokout1 thanks for sharing your story.... truly tragic😢
I’ve been to IoA several times over the past 20 years, but never visited this attraction. I’ve never known whether it was a ride or a show. The entrance, although impressive, never had anyone walking in, so I’ve always assumed it was never worth visiting. Maybe next time I’ll pop in.
You should for sure
Just a heads up that the upkeep on the attraction has been lacking so some of the audio and effects may be worse.
Me and my sister did the same thing for years but finally said let’s check it out since we always walk pat it
Definitely do it! It's my favorite attraction in the park!
With all those Water and Fire effects, I kind of wished they did an extreme rebranding to Avatar the Last Airbender in that area. Especially since netflix is going to do a live action reboot. I see resurgence interest in that IP.
I gotta say that's a pretty brilliant idea.
@@e-manr.486 Thanks. I was also thinking they could create Avatar themed food stalls too. Just imagine Uncle Iroh's (bubble) Tea, Egg Custard Tarts (Aang's fav), Cabbage merchant's cabbage rolls. Have Kyoshi Warriors wandering for additional theming. I do wonder what Universal's relationship with Nickelodeon is like now.
IPs are shit. Terrible idea. Nobody even half respects those films.
@@keithwellerlounge74 Films? It's a cartoon. Also I hate to break it to you, but IPs are the cornerstone of the Themepark industry at the moment. You see there's this small indie animation studio called Disney, you may have heared of them.
Ideas go and come back like a boomerAang. No wonder I started seeing merchandise at some stores.
I went through this as a little kid, but way too young to remember it. All I could recall was the water corridor, which for a long time I thought was a part of a dream. As I went through it as an adult, I was blown away it was something real.
The Lost Continent should’ve been themed around the stories of Greek Mythology and under the name “Isle of Mythos”!
Maybe in the future if they keep it original
The isle of the restaurant that was winner of best theme park restaurant 6 years in a row.
Expedition Theme Park Maybe...
They should definitely do this
"A new character was introduced called .....Neoprene"
lol
I thought you were joking till I heard him say it with my own ears.
I saw it on the paper and was like "that cant be right" lol
I love this attraction. Could be changed to Percy Jackson easily....
Yeah
Yep
Yeah that would be entertaining if they did, but there might be licensing issues.
ColtonSuper Game yeah but theme park rights are entirely different. Ex the Simpson’s
ColtonSuper Game also my name is Colton too!!!!
Most of them are really great
I stumble upon this attraction this past year while visiting the park for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Taylor had a kid in the audience "help" guide the other guests, and they really played off the cheesiness. Plus, not expecting the water vortex made it super impressive. With some upgrades to battle video I think it could be a super cool attraction.
Original poetry for the video opening? With a swearing gag?
10/10, totally recommend, and I haven't even finished watching yet.
Haha thank you. I didnt swear... :D
I will admit, I grew up with this attraction with the second one and I loved this very much. Sure it's not for everybody, but it was my favorite attraction.
I always loved the teleportation effect. It blew me away on the first time I did the attraction, and even after I thought it was pretty neat.
It is really great
I am in the love group of the original.
I also really enjoy special effects shows like this, they’re always a nice break from rides and… screens.
that water tunnel is still one of the coolest things I've ever seen on a walk through attraction
I remember being terrified by this attraction as a small child but coming back as a teenager and thoroughly enjoying it.
A sibling rivalry with an evil sibling voiced by Jeremy Irons? That sounds kinda familiar to what happened in The Lion King!
At least no Mufasa's were harmed in this ride
@@ExpeditionThemePark Exactly!
Went there last week for the first time and this ride made me full on cry with laughter
Its so cheesy that it goes full circle and becomes incredible again
Glad to know this still exists. I was there over 10 years ago before Harry Potter World was built. I assumed this whole section was taken over by Harry Potter stuff since Dueling Dragons became a Harry Potter attraction.
Mythos restaurant’s food was and is the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.
I vividly remember asking my parents to go on this attraction when we went back in 2016 and my dads response was “I’m not walking through no water tunnel again” , now I know why
This land and attraction was by far my favorite in Island of Adventure. The set is incredible.
So so good
This needs to remain open for all time, it's still an incredible experience and unique.
We went to Universal in August 2016, and this was definitely my favorite attraction! I had no clue what it was but went on it nonetheless and was so surprised at how technically advanced it seemed!
Imagine it back in 1999!
I think the series deserves better than just being the retheme for a polarizing attraction.
yawn
This would make for a fantastic Water Temple From Zelda OOC.
That'd sell with Nintendo fans, but wouldn't fit in this particular park. As someone who actively dislikes Zelda games, I'd stay away from it, so I imagine the average parkgoer would be just as lukewarm towards a Zelda attraction as the current one.
Troopertroll why do you actively dislike zelda? lmao
Yeab
It's better than The Hall of Presidents, which is where my mom likes to go on a hot day in the Magic Kingdom.
Rebecca O'Sullivan At least with the Hall of Presidents you get to sit down
@@amandajohnson650 True. And it is 30 minutes long so it's easy to fit in a nap.
This ride definitely surprised me. I went to Universal in September of 2019, and didn't even know it existed until I got a map on day 1. My family went on one of the walkthroughs, and now I anxiously await for when I return with my friends in June to hopefully go on this journey with them. I was definitely a fan.
hope you get to go again soon!
I love The Lost Continent, and thank you so much for doing this video. Jeremy Irons 👍🏻👍🏻
Me too!
I happen to love Poseidon. After 3 visits Universal I finally experienced it. I had no idea it was there. I love the fountain too.
Thanks!
"People loved it or thought it was shi-"😂
I didn't say nothing!
izzi onion LOL
Played it back like 4x 😂
It was awesome for no other reason that it was COOL in there after walking around in the Florida sauna.
This show is amazing. It's the best experience at islands (and I have been on all the potter rides). The finally is simply breathtaking. There is simply nothing like it in the world. While yes, it does need a refurbishment badly, it's simply breathtaking from the time you see the exterior to the very end.
i am a fan just wish it would be updated
I would love to try both versions of this ride it really sounds right up my alley these cheesy walk through shows. I loved the one in Portaventura templo del fuego even though it was mostly in Spanish I got the idea of the story
I love your attention to detail, especially The Lost Continent sound track. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Thank you for the Informative Video on this walk Through attraction its sad we don't have things like this In the UK.
Absolutely the best intro ever loved that cut😂😂
Thanks! :D
The Lost Continent could use an update. But Mythos and that fountain are amazing
I agree
I just popping by to say thank you very much to include my reconstruction version of the original Poseidon's Fury video to your show! Many Thanks, DragonDave LTD
This is the only Lost continat attraction around i remember when it was a Little Bigger and had the flying unicorn and dueling dragons and eigth voyage of Sinbad
It’s a ride that I’ve learn to love and it’s now one of my favorites in the park
I do like the new version it’s probably my favourite walk through attraction but I think it depends on who your Taylor is
can make a huge difference
yeah i was there two dys in a row becausec i had ptp and the first taylor was incredible while the second one hardly matched the audio
I went on this when i was younger, and my dad had left his sunglasses in a room as we started to move on and I literally cried because I was so worried the doors would close and he'd be stuck inside the room we had just left and that is quite literally the only thing that made an impression on me about this ride
I was there in 2012 and I thought it was kinda cool. The good ole days when dragons challenge was still there.
Good times!
Holy crap that new story is soooo much better than the old one
Been going to the park since it opened. The land looks amazing and its actually nice to walk through. Just wish they would add a top attraction to it.
OMG I remember this! I totally forgot about it. I remember being really confused as a kid haha. The outside queue area was awesome, though!
This ride is what you need on a hot summers day truthfully.
This is my favorite attraction at islands. Terror mines was a fun use of this for a haunted house.
I am also a fan
I haven't been on these videos in a hot minute but as soon as I heard the voiceover a huge smile broke out on my face. What a great channel.
I remember when they did a haunted house for hhn with those hard hats with lights that changed when you walked thru the house.
Yeah terror mines!
I love this show. Whenever I go to islands of Adventure it’s a must do for me.
It's a classic
If the land was rethemed to harry potter, the water vortex could be repurposed in a great chamber of secrets ride
Ultimately this area will eventually be repurposed but likely not until long after epic universe opens
Give it enough time and the entirety of Islands of Adventure will be one giant Harry Potter land.
That's kind of a scary thought for me.
They could just move the tunnel for hp if needed. It would be amazing for a chamber of secrets ride, maybe pretending to be another basilisk or something.
I’m so sick of Harry Potter...
Had Universal gotten the rights to use DC comics they could use this for Aquaman, and Black Manta’s battle.
We enjoy Poseidon's Fury.. I think we will miss it if it's ever gone. Great history as always! ~Dawn
Thanks Dawn
Never walked through this was too scared when I went to islands of adventure so gonna sip on my coffee and enjoy the ride with expedition theme park
Hope you enjoy!
Expedition Theme Park just realized this was 30 minutes long ... at the end of the video😂 great work and video as always kept me interested the whole time
Oh I love this attraction, when it opened it was out of this world, great video as always Sam, thank you
Technifex did all the effects for the Adventurer's Club as well, that would be a great subject for a video (they have some great behind the scenes photos and footage on the Technifex site)
They did loads
I'm still mad that they got rid of Adventurer's Club before I was old enough to go in.
@@gatsbysdead I got to go once, it was pretty awesome.
whats the adventurers club
A part of Disney's old Pleasure Island. I never got to go, but just know it was a hilarious, interactive experience themed to an old explorer's hangout.
That final fight scene and the lady above the door made me think I was being teleported to the 70s the first time I went through this. Now I just go through and giggle. It does scare some of the kids though, which is always fun. Thanks for all the great background information!
Thank you!
Universal: “it’s called Journey to Atlantis!”
Seaworld: “that’s a nice name...it would be a shame if someone were to steal it”
The lost continent is without question the best style and category for a theme park 😎🤘🌊 Great memories
