ABOUT ME 🙋♀️:
Hi everyone, I'm Sophie, also known as BirdNerdSophie, and I make educational and entertaining parrot care content! I've been working professionally with animals since 2009 across different jobs including working as a zoo keeper, animal trainer, zoo presenter, animal care lecturer and farmer! I have been lucky enough to work with parrots of all sizes, including: blue and gold macaws, yellow naped Amazons and budgies! Hello, new subscriber here. I have a 16 Yr old African Grey (Alice) who wants to say a massive thankyou for these videos. We've been binge watching together! She's lived on a boring diet since I got her at 3 months old, I thought I was being kind by offering her pizza, cheese etc. It's taken a whole 24 hours to change her onto a raw food diet, 30+ ingredients, the occasional walnut and Shelby dry food in the afternoon. I feel so guilty for not feeding her properly all these years, she's a plucker and very anxious. So thankyou, you're an inspiration.

Thank you so much for saying that a bird's diet should not consist solely of pellets for a meal. I feel like there's a lot of pressure in the bird community to feed pellets and honestly, my birds don't seem happy eating just that. I add a few of the Tops pellets to their mix and sometimes they eat them. Diet feels so hard sometimes. Do you have meal times for your birds or do you leave food in their cage all day for them to graze?
People are often scared of change or doing things another way, and aggressive marketing feeds into the pellet drama too!
For our flock, they get fresh food (sprouts, veg, fruit) in the morning, and a combination of the things in this video in the later afternoon:evening 😊

Love your videos Sophie.We've had our young cockatiel for 6 weeks now, he still won't take millet from me outside his cage.We used to have a cockatiel for almost twenty years.I hope I can train my little Joey.Any advice please xxxx

He doesn't have millet inside his cage but I put a bit in the bars and he loved it.

Hey sophie, I'm interested in buying a cokateil bird, and i have been wondering if the cokateil bird learns more words than the lovebird?
Every bird is different so you can’t know how well your individual bird will learn new words!
Hi sophie, I can't afford to buy all the items to go into a dry mix at the moment, do you have a link for a total feed dry please?
I haven’t got a link but it doesn’t haven’t to be as diverse as mine -sometimes you can buy a seed mix as a base and go from there with extras!
@@BirdNerdSophie I can never find a seed mix without millet or sunflower seeds. I don't want them in there as trying to tame. I just got parrot lean and fit which doesn't have them but the food I think is too big for cockateils

@@theshabbychicken1156 they can eat bigger pieces 😊 we also buy some mixes and pick out the sunflower for training - time consuming but can be worth it!
