  • My Organic Life Enhancing Pellets for Parrots (cold pressed) are available here; birdtricksstore.com/collectio...
** Sorry, but I can only ship my pellets and birdie bread within the USA **
My parrot pellets are comprised of 100% natural, ORGANIC ingredients.
    They are FREE FROM:
    ⦁ GMOs
    ⦁ Wheat and corn fillers
    ⦁ Added vitamins or minerals
    ⦁ Artificial flavors
⦁ Added sugar of any kind
    ⦁ Dyes
    ⦁ Chemical preservatives
They are preserved using natural ingredients such as orange peels and rose hips, and they are suitable for ANY sized parrot (from budgies to macaws!). These pellets are processed using a cold-pressed method which retains all the nutrition naturally occurring in each ingredient. It also means they break apart easily, making them ideal for small beaks (budgies and the like) and new beaks (baby birds) as well as everything in between!
Here is a list of the ingredients inside our organic pellets. It’s truly impressive. Every single ingredient comes directly from nature:
Rice, hulled millet, barley, alfalfa leaf, sunflower seed hulled, sesame seeds unhulled, quinoa whole, buckwheat hulled, dandelion leaf powder, carrot powder, spinach leaf powder, purple dulse, kelp, rose hips powder, rose hips crushed, orange peel powder, lemon peel powder, rosemary whole leaf, cayenne ground, crushed red chili peppers, nettle leaf.

Hello everyone! Ashlyn (Birdtricks Customer Service) here! I just wanted to say thanks to all your amazing comments and emails, along with tagging us on different social media platforms of your stories with our pellets. With this comment, I wanted to answer a few commonly asked questions, along with providing you with some of our free resources that you might find helpful.
    1) Can these pellets be shipped internationally?
The answer is, unfortunately, no. We do not have the permitting to be able to ship any of our food products internationally. However, we do recommend a brand of pellets to our international clients that is similar to ours called TOPs. If you do place an order for our pellets or birdie bread accidentally through our site (but are an international client), you will be refunded and notified.
    2) Do you offer a subscription program?
Yes! That is one of the things we really pride ourselves on is our subscription programs so that you don't have to worry or think about having to order food consistently. Just set the quantity and timing and we will auto process and ship to you. You can also cancel at any time with no hassle or fees. Plus, you get a great discount when putting your order on subscription!
    3) My bird is having trouble adjusting to a healthier pellet. What can I do?
This is something that is common, especially when switching from a pellet that has a lot of sugar in it to one that does not (or from an all seed diet to a pellet diet). It's like trying to switch kids from a sugary cereal to no sugar added oatmeal - some take to it right away where others need a little convincing. We do have some FREE resources though that have tips and tricks to help through the process!
If needing help switching from a seed diet - birdtricksstore.com/collections/free-products/products/get-your-bird-off-junk-food-guide
If needing help switching from a different pellet - birdtricksstore.com/collections/free-products/products/6-cup-of-pellets-guide
    4) Can I purchase a sample bag of pellets?
Currently we do offer a sample 1-lb bag of pellets, but they can only be purchased with one of our birdie bread blends. The reason for this is our fulfillment center will not pull just a single small bag and ship, so to be able to offer them anymore we had to pair them with something else. We felt the birdie breads were a great way to pair the sample bag with a product that can also help you introduce the pellets to your bird. They can be found here - birdtricksstore.com/products/birdie-bread-blends?variant=16712276639790
    5) How long do the pellets last for?
The typical shelf life of our pellets is 8-10 months if kept in an air tight container. If wanting to keep the pellets for longer, you can place them in air tight containers and freeze them, but we still only recommend that they go as long as 12 months.
    6) How many pellets should I be feeding my bird?
Great question! While there is no "one amount fits all", we did make a video that can help you find the right about of pellets (and natural feeding system) for your bird here - th-cam.com/video/BPZbnihqIoE/w-d-xo.html
I hope that this helps! If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email us at info@birdtricks.com and we will do our best to assist you!

Omg my ring neck loves your pellets. They are amazing and honestly she treats your pellets like treats I've given them to her as a very low value treat for things like stepping up and down cleanly and also not going on my shoulder. They are amazing and honestly I would recommend them for anyone and everyone.

When you were talking about the diet of your birds I was completely relating but on a human level it’s so true right across the board!!! Lol
I had a budgie bird when I was just a little girl and approaching 60 years old with my service dog having cancer I’m thinking about getting a budgie bird thanks to you it’s putting me back in touch with nature and the things that make me very happy. :)

The pellets, manufactured by Tops and marketed under the BirdTricks label and the Marlene McCohen label as well are mainly Alfalfa. I think they make a great addition to the diet but I completely disagree that they should form the base of any parrot's diet. I understand that Jamie feeds her birds fresh produce chop in the am so these pellets are not the only food in the diet. That is important for people to understand lest they think that Tops pellets would be suitable as an only food. Most other pellet brands have a corn and soy base and are fortified with a mix of natural and some synthetic vitamins. I also don't think a parrot should only be given corn based pellets either. That said, it has been established over time with avian veterinarians that pet birds do much better if eating a corn based, fortified pellet than just a seed mix. This is because pellets are a better way to ensure that the parrot is getting a full profile of essential macro and micro nutrients. With a seed mix, a parrot tends to get too much fat and will end up with deficiencies if he selectively eats some seeds and not others.
Note, millet and other grain seeds are not fatty like sunflower seeds and so it is not a true that all seeds are fatty. Macaws and many conures need more fat in the diet than desert parrots like Cockatiels and budgies. The beak of a particular species has evolved to feed on the native, regional diet of that bird and their organs are suited to handle the fat, carbs and protein amounts of the natural diet. Budgies, for example, with their small beaks are not designed to eat pecans and if feed a diet high in shelled pecans will get sick from the excessive fat. Macaws did not evolve a big beak to eat little millet seeds but obviously to crack open hard shelled nuts. It is reasonable to believe that a Macaw should have some hard nuts in their diet and so has evolved to need more fat.
Tops pellets are a new addition to the market and so they have no track record. They are not fortified with added vitamins (natural or synthetic) and so only provide the vitamins and minerals naturally present in the main ingredients. Because they are cold pressed, they do not lose all the natural vitamins in processing. However, that does not mean that they retain all the natural vitamins as a processed food. Minimally processed is better than high heat processing for conserving the natural vitamins, but no processed food has as many fresh vitamins as fresh produce. Because Tops is a new product and because they have a very different composition than the tried and tested pellets that are now all corn based and fortified, none of us know the long term performance of these pellets. No one yet knows if desert birds from Australia will do as well on these pellets as say Macaws that evolved in rainforests. Seriously, it is appropriate to think about this. I am not convinced that my Noble Macaw or my budgies or my conures should eat a diet that contains so much alfalfa. Alfalfa is a cheap green fodder and that is why it is in this pellet. It is healthy in general but it may be that it has too much iodine or too much whatever or too little whatever to think it should be the base of a generic parrot's diet. It may be that alfalfa is the perfect, generic, green substitute for the tropical mix of plants that a conure would naturally eat in the wild and it may be that for any given species it is toxic long term. Nobody knows.
So, that gets us back to the fact that variety is better than no variety and the fact that nobody really knows what any particular species of parrot eats in the wild and how that changes seasonally with breeding and flying and temperature and how the caged life is completely different than a wild life and how that affects the metabolic needs from the diet. I agree with Jamie that a fresh chop made of mainly veggies is an essential component for a pet parrot's diet and that too much fruit gives too much fructose (for most parrots but not Lories and Tucans and other species that evolved to eat mainly fruit). I agree that pellets should also be fed but I think the best we can do is to alternate the alfalfa pellets with other brands just to hedge all bets. I also think they need a fresh mix of oily seeds and non-oily grain seeds as a smaller portion of the diet and the best ratios of fat and carb and protein is very different between the different parrot species so we have to make some intelligent guesses about that. I think we should look to parrot breeders in Loro Parque who have been studying the health of various species for decades and see if they have written any books on the subject or have any published lectures. Tony Silva has a couple of brief youtube videos and he explains that most wild parrots eat unripe fruit vs. ripe fruit. Unripe fruit have low fructose and high fiber and toxic alkaloids. Something to think about.

Thank you so much for writing this. I transitioned my budgie to these pellets a few years back because I believed the marketing that these were the “best” pellets for birds and all other brands were inferior due to the “fillers.”
However, after a few months of eating only these pellets and chop as BirdTricks recommends, he suddenly started developing what I initially believed to merely be behavioral issues. He was frantically running around the bottom of the cage, he desperately wanted to eat crumbs off of the floor, and he would contact call me for a very long period of time whenever I left the room. I emailed BirdTricks and they agreed that it was merely due to behavior, however they did recommend I see my avian vet just in case.
I decided to take him in and the vet commented that he was thin. His bloodwork came back with results indicative of starvation from being on these pellets, even though it had only been around 6 months since he was fully converted. Turns out his behavior was due to him being constantly hungry. I switched him to Harrison’s per the vet’s recommendation and his bloodwork was completely normal upon his follow-up one month later. I’ve continued to feed these pellets to my birds ever since and they’ve been in near-perfect health.
Although I do buy some of BirdTricks’ products for my birds still, I have to say I can’t agree with their dietary recommendations after that experience.

@@Ashley.falcon The only difference is the BT label adds another 14$ plus shipping that depends on where you are (+12$ for me upon just checking for a total of 72$... 26$ more than TOPS just for the brand). But anyway, you still get the nutrition of the birdtricks diet, so you're all set :)
----I just checked right now and for a BT 8 pound bag its 60$ w/o shipping, and 2x 4 pound bags of TOPS for 46$ (shipping included).
That's using the official topsparrotfood.com and birdtricksstore.com sites; you can get TOPS w/o shipping that sometimes comes out cheaper depending on where you live on birdsafestore and other places. birdsafestore.com has a 10 lbs bag of TOPS for 34$...which comes out to 20$ shipping for me...which is still cheaper than BT's 8 lbs bag O_O'

I bought tops pellets (Canadian parrot parent here) and I really wanted to like them. I love the ingredients, the organic label and the use of real foods to provide the bulk of the nutrition instead of vitamin premixes. My birds, a cockatiel who is very poorly bred and has some health issues, and a Meyer's parrot, eat the BBB and I love it! And they love it!
But... The pellets. I don't know if it's where I live, the length of the seasons, the cold winters, or maybe just my birds as an individual, but neither of them do well on the tops pellets :( Gerty the cockatiel enjoys them, but if she's given just Tops pellets and the BBB, she comes skinny, even with an unlimited supply of pellets and more than what she can eat for breakfast. I find myself feeding her extra seeds and nuts to try and bump up her calories, which then turns into her eating less breakfast and then less pellets. Meeko is less thrilled about the pellets, but again eats breakfast every morning. He is free to fly around my home and we do tons of training every day, so he gets lots of treats of almond bits, pine nuts, sunflower seeds and bits of fruit, but he too gets skinny eating just Tops for pellets. I thought perhaps Gerty's health issues were her issue, then I noticed Meeko sliding back on the scale too unless he gets a ton of extras.
I will likely keep Tops in the rotation of Pellets I feed, but as time goes on and I'm finding my birds weight to be fluctuating and becoming underweight with clean (well, relatively clean in Gerty's case! Poor breeding did her no favors) bills of health from the vet, im resigned to knowing that I can't just feed tops as a pellet.

Hey, can I ask if these are ok for lorikeets? I’ve got a rainbow and wondering if these would damage the bristles on her tongue? Thanks love your videos!! It’s thanks to you that I have a very well trained lorikeet, which can be tricky with these little guys lol!
Edit: not thinking about trying to convert her to having these as a large percentage of her diet, just for foraging, she gets a really well made nectar mix (wambaroo wet) and fresh veggies daily, fruit sparingly and mainly as a reward. I’m also NOT trying to “stop the squirts” as I don’t feel right about trying to change a birds natural digestive process by clogging it up, they eat a lot of nectar so they have messy poo, that’s just life :)

How are rosehips a great idea? Overhere we are taught the fine hairs around the seeds are a powerfull irritant to the breathing apparatus, eyes etc.etc. of the birds (and maybe even the digestive tract) and need to be burned off (yup, open flame ;) ) before you can safely use them as (a super)food.
I would love to try these pellets though :) (even though rice is just as much a filler as the other starches,. it is great to find something that is peanut- and soyfree ). Any chance of shipping to Europe?
'Organic' in the USA still means some pesticides are oke to be used- so they are *not* pesticidefree!

    • @Night-ud4ew
      @Night-ud4ew 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Copying from an above comment (as far as i can tell, there may be more but the biggest difference I see is the price),
The only difference is the BT label adds another 14$ plus shipping that depends on where you are (+12$ for me upon just checking for a total of 72$...

So easy fix though, adding them in birdy bread instead of flour and ground almonds. She is eating exclusively from your bird diet books after 4 months.
