- Fishing in California is especially good with the scenery of Yosemite Valley and Yosemite National Park as the backdrop. Most people visiting Yosemite hike the mist trail to vernal falls. The mist trail is a scenic hike adjacent to the Merced river with an amazing waterfall. But wait, there's more. Yosemite valley has wonderful rafting/kayaking, fishing and of course lots of beautiful nature. Fishing in Yosemite National Park is a wonderland of delights for the most part away from the crowds of people in the Yosemite Valley but still getting the views of the wonderful granite cliffs.
The Yosemite View Lodge is adjacent to the Merced river and is the closest hotel outside the park in the Yosemite Valley and is reasonably priced. Best of all are the views from the balcony of the rushing rock lined Merced river and a perfect kayak course.
The water level in the Merced river is very high from snow melt in the spring but still flows well into the fall.
Fish Species Found at Yosemite
From the first recorded planting in 1877 until 1990, more than 33 million fish were stocked into waters of Yosemite. Today, the native and non-native species include:

Rainbow Trout (Lower Elevations)
California Roach
Sacramento Pikeminnow
Hardhead
Sacramento Sucker
Riffle Sculpin
Non-Native Species:
Rainbow Trout (Higher Elevations)
Bluegill
Smallmouth Bass
Brook Trout
Brown Trout
Lahontan Cutthroat Trout
Golden Trout
Rainbow Trout
Rainbow-Golden Hybrid Trout
Rainbow-Lahontan Cutthroat Hybrid Trout

What an incredibly picturesque park! Mountains in the background, pristine surrounding, cascading waterfall, a meandering river, wildlife and an angling experience. Truly spectacular Yosemite Valley and Yosemite National Park. I often see nature documentaries and I am always surprised by the beauty of these habitats. I must say that there is also a great abundance of endemic and alien fish species, this problem is increasing worldwide for many reasons.
Spot fishing here looks very fun, how cute is the red dragonfly.

The Yosemite View Lodge looks like a wonderful place to stay. Loved your view! Yosemite is a beautiful park and looks like a great place to fish.
