    A reservation will be required to drive into Yosemite during two different periods in summer 2024.

    Yosemite National Park - located in California - is one of the most spectacular and important National Parks in the country. That being said, it's also one of the busiest so planning ahead and having as much knowledge as possible will make your experience all the better. And, that is why I created this video.
    In the video, I show you how to get to the park, how to get around, where to stay (hotels, cabins and camping), where to eat, where to get coffee, what to do (the list is long!), the wildlife and some tips when exploring the park.
    Yosemite National Park, located in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains, is a renowned travel destination that captivates visitors with its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and countless outdoor recreational opportunities. Spanning over 1,200 square miles, Yosemite offers an unforgettable experience that attracts millions of travelers from around the world each year.
    One of the main draws of Yosemite is its iconic granite cliffs, including the famous El Capitan and Half Dome. These colossal rock formations provide a stunning backdrop for hikers, climbers, and photographers alike. The park's extensive trail network caters to all levels of fitness and offers breathtaking vistas of waterfalls, meadows, and ancient sequoia groves. Whether you're embarking on a leisurely stroll through the valley or embarking on a multi-day backpacking adventure, Yosemite has something for everyone.
    Yosemite's waterfalls are another highlight that contributes to its allure. From the awe-inspiring Yosemite Falls, which is one of the tallest waterfalls in North America, to the ethereal Bridalveil Fall, visitors are treated to an awe-inspiring display of nature's power and beauty. The park's diverse ecosystems provide a habitat for a wide range of wildlife, including black bears, mule deer, coyotes, and countless bird species. Wildlife enthusiasts will relish the opportunity to observe these creatures in their natural environment.
    In addition to its natural wonders, Yosemite offers a plethora of recreational activities to engage in. Rock climbing enthusiasts flock to the park for its challenging granite faces and world-class climbing routes. Rafting down the Merced River provides a thrilling adventure, while fishing in the park's lakes and streams is a peaceful pastime. During winter, Yosemite transforms into a winter wonderland, offering opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowboarding.
    Yosemite's rich history and cultural heritage also add to its allure. The park has been inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years, and visitors can learn about their traditions and customs at the Yosemite Valley Indian Cultural Museum. The historic Ahwahnee Hotel, with its distinctive architecture, is a must-visit for history buffs.
    Accommodation options in Yosemite cater to a range of preferences, from luxurious hotels and lodges to campgrounds for those seeking a more rustic experience.

      Thank you so much for the lengthy comment and your compliments. I must say this park is one of the magical ones. Some parks - while beautiful - look similar to other parks. This park is so unique. It can be super busy in the middle of the summer (I don’t go in the summer because of this). I hope you get to go! Incidentally I have a long time friend in Lima. Have fun in Yosemite! Some of the easier hikes (and hopefully avoiding some height problems) would be: Glacier Point (1 mile long), Lower Mariposa Grove (2.2 miles long), Tuolumne Meadows (2 miles long), Lower Yosemite Falls (1/2 a mile long). I'm not sure if they are all open right now so check before you go. Enjoy! And btw, thank you so much for the nice comment.

      Good question - so, I have not stayed at all the campgrounds and therefore can only speak to the ones I am familiar with. But, I think you need to be in Yosemite Valley (not north or south). There are 4 campgrounds in this area and I've stayed at two (Upper Pines and Camp 4). Both were wonderful and I've heard good things about Lower Pines as well. I hope that helps a little bit.

    • @traveleaz
      @traveleaz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      May can be chilly and you'll likely find snow in places. Also, the spring is when you'll see the waterfalls at their biggest - this year was particularly violent (and there was some flooding in the meadows). I would try and avoid summery (July and August) as they are busy - I love early June or late September (still as busy but not quite as bad).

    When you mention to find a parking spot and leave the car there. Are you able to see most of yosemite while on foot or you must use the shuttle? I plan on only going for one day early around 6am, If i must see only one or two places, what would you recommend? I think Yosemite falls and one other thing but can't decide. I want to park around 6am, go see famous places in the park and be out by 10am

    • @traveleaz
      @traveleaz  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Hi there - so, the park is huge and yes there is shuttle service around the park. To be honest I have never used the shuttle service although I do know people who have. Apparently the shuttle service is fine if you don't mind busy buses and having to rely on their schedule (and wait). In terms of parking and then wandering on your own, what I refer to is exploring the area near to where you parked or, if you have bike, venturing off on a bike (where you can). The Yosemite Valley is a good area to grab your bike (if you have one) and roam the area on bike. I was in the park in June and parked around 6am (like you wish to do) - I had no problem getting in and finding a park this early but when I left (around noon) it was crazy busy. I think your plan on getting there early and leaving early makes complete sense! Don't forget to check the Park's parking app: -Text YNPTRAFFIC to 333111 for parking updates.

    Is it good idea to visit in dec .?

    • @traveleaz
      @traveleaz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never been to Yosemite in the winter but, I have been to other northern National Parks (Grand Teton, Banff, Jasper, etc.) - although Canadian National Parks are a little different. That being said, I know it's beautiful and accessible (much of it) - and it snows alot.
      Here is the what the National Park Service says:
      "While Yosemite Valley and Wawona remain accessible by car all year, the Tioga Road is closed (usually by sometime in November). Once closed for the season, vehicles are not permitted between Crane Flat and Tioga Pass, including in the Tuolumne Meadows area. The road to Glacier Point is also closed (usually sometime in November). However from mid-December though early April, the Glacier Point/Badger Pass Road is plowed to the Badger Pass Ski Area, where both downhill and cross-country skiing are popular. Tire chains are often required on park roads. When they are, you must carry and know how to use them, regardless of the type of vehicle you are driving.
      Mariposa Grove Road usually opens by sometime in April, allowing for access to vehicles displaying a disability placard, with free shuttle service between the Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza (near South Entrance) and the Mariposa Grove. When the road is closed, the Washburn Trail provides a two-mile route (500 feet of elevation gain) to the Mariposa Grove. The trail may be snowy or icy (skis or snowshoes may be appropriate)."

    What’s the park like early October?

    • @traveleaz
      @traveleaz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Early October is a great time to visit - you'll find less people and hotels are easier to book. However it can be quite cold and the waterfalls (which have been amazing this year) are not nearly as fast flowing (not as dramatic). From memory, everything is still open in early October. I prefer late September and early October, to be honest. Great time to go.
