      Redzombie 001 true, but David Duchovny pissed me off so bad by leaving to 'explore other options' that landed him nowhere. He is the face of the X-FILES...accept it Mr. Duchovny... but yes, this ending had a lasting effect. But the 2008 X-Files was a major let down as well. The 98 movie was where it was at.

    • @brotatochimp
      @brotatochimp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TriLiCiT STyLuS 2008 movie wasn't all that great, but the situation with David is the same as the cast for Seinfeld. when it came to the second to last season Jerry brought the other three memebers togeth for a meeting which they did every year. he didn't push it but suggested how long the show should go. should we do more? yes they could and the new episodes would have been great they had the cast that worked great together and the writters would keep giving good material. they decided though the life of the show just wouldn't be as genuine as it used to be. I can't remember Georges real name but he said it wouldn't feel as organic any more. they agreed to do one more season. he said if they continued the show it would result in what he called career suicide. they wouldn't habe a future beyond that. as an actor you want to be known for your diversity and the different roles you could do. so they decided one more season and they would let their career be free. there is a video of him talking about all this and it's great honestly. it's a real blast from the past. but that is what David was stuck in they could have done more but thats it for their career. It would have even been possible people just knew him as mulder and not his real name. did you know during this time he did other stuff as well? no because his time in x files was his spot light. that and I don't even know if they were all that great. he did a movie called evolution that I liked. but he did what was best for his career and same with the casr withe seinfeld. it's great they were known for what they did but when they try to cast for something else it changes the possible decision. it sucked for us but was something he needed to do.

      (response to original comment)Maybe true, but we have to remember that TV series are made in such a way, that we are growing attached to our heroes, and we want to see everything. This ain`t Dragon Ball, where you can piss off for the week, and after returning, main guy, or villan still charge thier attack. This ain`t some series that you just watch to pass time between grub and crap time, when there is nothing else on TV. Every good tv series has the thing that calls you back. I remember waiting all week, well, more like from monday until thursday night, to watch X Files, when i was little- i`m fascinated by folklore and occult to this day thanks to that series. If you didn`t invest yourself in it, then why should you watch this particular episode? And if you watched whole show...
      THAT IS HOW YOU DO A CLOSING SCENE! Music. lights, good actors play, and something inside you quivering, after it ends, thing you won`t be able even name. I was sad and frankly scared that so many of those children were dead, but i still was happy, that they found peace and love. That they were safe. I was sad that all Mulder got for his years of search, was message that his sister is dead, but still feeling his emotional relief made me happy. Finally, all these years of search came to an end. Mulder was free
      To this day something happens when i see this scene. And i still can`t put it in to words. That is how it is done folks :)

    Kim Manners, the Director of this episode, talked about how David Duchovny was originally scripted to drop to his knees crying while hugging Samantha. I think David's acting in this scene was just perfect and I love the improv that he did. I like the fact that Mulder doesn't want to hold Samantha at first because he's been led down so many false avenues in his search for his sister only to find dead ends. This time he finds the "end of the road" and finds peace. I always thought this episode should've been the very last episode to the most brilliant television show ever created. This storyline was mostly expedited because Duchovny wanted to leave the show but it was brilliant regardless. If this scene in Closure makes you cry, it means that you love and cherish your own family.

    I felt so heartbroken for Harold in this scene. He goes from a high gasp of hope and shock of his son being seen by Mulder and being alive then instantly getting crushed with the statement that his son is dead. The poor grieving father doesnt want to accept his son is dead and desperately wants to see him again. To hear him say I am going to find him and walking off is just heartbreaking.

    • @MforMovesets

      The point of the whole episode was for Mulder to cope, and when he did, the guy who wanted to help him cope can't himself. That's great writing.

    • @vytalman
      @vytalman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It is heartbreaking to think about, especially for me on both fronts. On one hand it hurts to see a father lose his young son, being that I myself am a father of a 6 year old, and on the other, I lost my brother to overdose of fentanyl on February of 2020. My last form of contact with him was in a text message asking if I'm going to visit my parents on the next day with my son so he could teach him to play catch with a little football he got him. Then, like that, he was gone.

And remember, when this first aired back in 2000 it wasn't any smartphones yet with Shazam to find songs. SOO happy I found out what it was and of course its Moby ❤ And I kinda surprised my wife today I think. I never cry during sad stuff in movies/shows, but today I lost it in this episode cause I understand even though it's just a show, how relieving it must be getting closure on something that's haunted you for almost 30 years. Mulder has been a icon/hero of mine since I was a teenager. And no one could've done Fox Mulder better than David Duchovny ❤

Totally agree with all the posts who recognize this as the most masterful ending I've EVER seen, and I've watched tv since my folks bought one of the first in 1952. Hang in there everyone gets bummed sometimes. It's normal and appropriate. Keep the faith in yourself, what you believe in and tell people you love that you love them. Time waits for no one ❤️❤️😺😺Do the best you can and let it go. Perfection is for the angels in heaven, we're here on Earth.❤️❤️😺😺

    Despite the insanity that occurred in her early years, Fox Mulder’s sister, Samantha, provides him unconditional love in this scene. This is absolutely beautiful! The music just pushes this scene/reunion over the top, well done.

  • @OrbitFallenAngel

    This really was the best scene in any television history!
    It's so beautiful and sad..
    All those kids..playing and running around smiling and laughing..and then Mulder sees her...Samantha..and she is running straight for him!
    It made me bawl my eyes out!
    And the music...! The music literally *MADE* this scene so much more emotional and empathetic...💗💗💗
    I hated that Samantha was dead, but I was so glad that she was happy and in a loving and beautiful starlit place...
    I just hated it for Mulder...😕
    But he knew that he had to let her go in order to be free...
    Best episode ever!!

      The most of the series or the movies I saw had happy end. This happy end was unbearable at the end. But for Mulder I would like his sister to be alive after all those years. Half of the episodes in x filles had to do with this.... So sad

    Haunted by this moment and this track. 2025. I recently completed watching the X-files again and here in Closure we see that every appearance of Samantha Mulder was nothing other than an Alien clone ! CSM played out the most underhand and shameful of acts on Mulder by letting him think Samantha was alive. We all learn that Samantha was spared from a fate that was unbearable....and so the viewers get a haunting scene using a powerful piece of music, Moby My Weakness, and closure on part of the journey that is the X-files.

    My heart breaks for Mulder right here. All that time spent searching, wondering and investigating what he thought was ufo conspiracy and only to see the sad reality that it was a pedo. I like how he told the other man that he refused to see his child. That’s what Mulder did too. Truly outstanding with this scene!
