Can anyone help me? I was trying to remove two tone paint from my CYMA AK-47 using this method (a bottle of white spirit and a rag (I used an old shirt)) and it worked on the metal but didn't do much on the faux wood after 20min (plastic imitation wood). Any idea why? Or an alternative method?
Definitely looks a hell of a lot better now only it must have taken for ever too get all that paint off but at least you don't have too buy an other one now
Mr muscle oven foam cleaner works well on any plastic or metal and won't attack it .. just gotta break down and get a big jiffy bag. . Spray some In and massage the foam in.

I tried this and it didn’t work on my specific gun (ares amoeba 008), I bought it off a mate second hand and the two tone on it is tough...so I used white primer followed by “posca” brand paint pens and clear coated it, it looks perfect as the amoeba is mainly polymer except the upper receiver so the paint just soaked into it, and gave it a nice matte finish, it also dried pretty quick, then I just clear coated it haha!
SULLYo the lower reciever is (polymer) black, the stock was black but two toned over, and entire upper reciever were two toned blue, upper is metal, there’s only a few tiny tiny areas I couldn’t get to, so I’d still recommend spray paint instead of paint pens, but if you’re on a budget, the paint pens were a good alternative! It was two toned, I managed to get a little blue off using white spirit, but after 4 hours I gave up and tried the paint lens. The parts I couldn’t get to aren’t noticeable unless you’ve holding the gun basically
What is your receiver made out of polymer plastic or metal ?? I'm thinking of buying this gun but it has a crappy two tone and it's made of Polymer :p normally I would think twice cuase it plastic not full metal like my m4 but it has upgrades and I can probably sell it to my friend after lol

Personally I think a simple registration for this sort of thing would suffice, so your on record for what models you have and description, so if someone's running through the street or holding up a bank, you look at the gun and question anyone who is registered as owning one like it. I mean what's stopping criminals with real guns painting them 2 tone and masquerading them as replica Airsoft?
ukara makes no sense because if someone pretended to shoot up a school with a real looking gun it still is a airsoft gun and wouldn't kill anyone unless shot closely in the eye and the bb went into the brain so just why is it a thing..

Mine was plastic and is fine so don't see why not! Could try on a little bit first and check. Just be careful not to get any white spirit/nail polish remover inside of the gun. Also make sure no junk like the paint being removed gets inside of the gun!

I want to do this but I still want to go air-softing how will they know if you have made it a real imitation if it used to be just imitation and what happens if you get caught
If only for airsoft they probrbaly wont care, I've never had a problem with it. Just keep concealed and dont have on show outside. Only use for airsoft and you should be fine.

It has its uses though. If you bought the gun before you went to Airsoft events you can use the gun without it been bright orange etc. Just be aware that if you start waving a black replica gun around in the city centre you may have a SWAT team pointing a real version of it at you
Sam Palmer ukara is for retailers. Makes no difference to painting a gun. People take the ukara way too seriously, paint your gun and make it look as realistic as possible regardless of whether you have a ukara or not. Nobody’s gunna arrest you unless you start pointing it at shop keepers asking for money.
Psa: only do this if u have a ukara license or are in a country without laws like this (otherwise you are rendering your gun essentially useless as you cant take it anywhere
If that were the case, general wear and tear would remove the two tone paint below the legal 51% coverage making it "manufacturing a RIF". You'd be two toning your gun every month if you a weekend warrior! UKARA is the way to go but there's no limit on respraying it yourself, it comes down to common sense. Bag it and transport it to an insured airsoft site
@@nathanhankinson3229 You're wrong. Violent Crime Reduction Act, Section 36(1)(b) makes it an offence to 'modify' an imitation firearm into a 'realistic imitation firearm'. Where it would make it indistinguishable from the real firearm. The reason its brightly painted is to make it easily distinguishable from the real thing so when you change the bright colour you make it exactly like the real weapon and thus break the law.
Funnily enough, after a few years of two tone, once the paint is old, you can also remove it with electrical tape

Be careful , the key ingredient is acetone and it can damage plastics such as Polymer
yeah you will be surprised how fast acetone can soften and melt plastics like ABS

You need to be careful with this kind of thing. It’s illegal to remove the two tone unless you have a UKARA license

Errr probably look okay just make sure you do smooth coats

Googled it is more water based so safer for user and environment, less solvent content so should do the same really but just not as strong!

When the spray paint rubs off or gets scratched you can see the two tone underneath. I dont think spray paint looks as nice

Depends how big the gun, but that took me a while haha, if its got loads of hard to reach areas that takes time but say around 4/5hours maybe?

No if the colour you want is the metal it shouldn't affect it, it should only thin down the spray paint to make it easier to remove

In the UK you're allowed to make your gun black without a UKARA, but you can't be sold one black. Makes no sense but that's how it is
