- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train drivers' view on Croatian Railways train between Zabok and Zagreb. The video is filmed in 4K/60 frames per second.
The line between Zabok and Zaprešić on is a part of Zaprešić-Čakovec railway, officially designated as the R201 railway. It is a 100.6-kilometre railway line in northwest Croatia that connects the towns of Zaprešić and Čakovec, opened in 1886 in former Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia. It is partially electrified single-tracked railway. The line separates at the Zaprešić station to the M101 railway, the state border-Savski Marof-Zagreb Glavni kolodvor railway is a 26.709-kilometre railway line in Croatia, connecting the nation's capital Zagreb and its main railway station to the Slovene railway network west of Savski Marof and further on with Ljubljana.It is an integral part of the Pan-European Corridor X running from Salzburg and Ljubljana towards Skopje and Thessaloniki. The line is electrified and double-tracked.
The Savski Marof-Zagreb railway was opened in 1862 in former Kingdom of Croatia, as a part of a railway line from Zidani Most (present day Slovenia) to Sisak. The second track was commissioned in 1944. It was the route of the Orient Express service from 1919 to 1977.
From 2018 to 2021, the complete section between stations Zaprešić (excluded) and Zabok was modernized/reconstructed, which resulted in splitting of almost all direct passenger lines Zagreb - Zabok - Varaždin - (Čakovec - Kotoriba) in two. The EMU trains started to cover mostly all lines between Zagreb and Zabok.
Many thanks to Zvonimir for helping me with the details. I really appreciate it.

A short line, however, but it is the result of the joint efforts of Hz Infrastruktura, the company that manages and renovates the Croatian railways, also responsible for the renewal and doubling of the Zagreb-Budapest line! Crossing the Krapina, the old diesel line was reshaped into a new railway according to European standards, with new platforms, new 25 Kv catenary and above all the new EMU trains of the Koncar class. The Croatian Railways intends to renovate the railway fleet by purchasing 60 new electric trains by 2030. This line is a short but significant step! Well done David!
@wladislaw79 Thank you.
Prekrasno hvala Vam što ste me podsjetili na vrijeme prije četrdesetak godina kad sam istom tom štrekom putovao cugom baki u Zabok. Dragi moji zagorci baš vam zavidim.
@user-mb1kp8ie1p drago mi je, da ste uživali.
Napokon da i Zagorci dobiju modernu prugu i moderan vlak. Super 👍
Najbolji video do sada
Ima još nade za zagorski cug
@TheBessni hvala.
nice. i loved the first half of the journey, with the wide open spaces. it reminded me of west texas. thank you.
@mikezard1311I am glad you liked it. Thanks for the feedback.
@domenicobecchio6459 great. I am glad that you like it. That was my idea at the first place. To be able to show different places.
Nicely upgraded line (actually it looks better than the main line - even the renovated part). And I loved the drone view at the beginning. You usually don't show much of the train you're riding on, though railfans like me would love to know a bit more about it.
@maxart3392 thank you for your comment. On this opportunity I had more time to film the drone image too. Normally it is just not possible. But I though this short insert would make a very nice add-on.
That's because Zabok-Zaprešić part went under major reconstruction, while the main line part was only partially renovated (including both upper and lower rail structure, though).
Top svaka čast! Switelsky!!!
@lukakuzg3967 hvala.

@rockabilli3058 toll.

@gaborgredely1848 it is nice that you saw the places where your father is from.
Short ride on a part of the Maribor-Zagreb railway, would be great if you can do also the sections from Maribor to Zabok, it's quite hilly there. Thanks for the video, greetings from a traveller from Germany!
@roadsexplore than you for your suggestion. Very well noted.
There is no Maribor-Zagreb service over this route (main route is via Zidani Most), to do it You would need to change at least four trains (Maribor-Grobelno, Grobelno-Đurmanec, Đurmanec-Zabok and Zabok-Zagreb), There is a recording of Celje-Rogatec (just before SI/HR border) earlier on the channel. th-cam.com/video/4ky9NHdlTjw/w-d-xo.html
Nice video
@adamblunsdon7784 thank you.
@@RailRelaxation your welcome
Nice video! 👌I'm glad to see that railway infrastructure has been renovated on this line.
Why is the speed limit of 70 km/h still in place around Podsused tvornica? Wasn't this section also designed for 120 km/h?
Now it's 20 kmh. Something went wrong with the overpass construction. Hope they will fix it.
@@doriancroatia2054 I hope so too, and I hope we won't have to wait a long time for them to fix it.
Odličan video. Koju kameru koristiš?
@hiddenwaves4772 hvala. GoPro 11.
Nice route
@trainlovers-fan indeed. Thank you for your comment.
Super!
Great video sir. Is the camera mounted inside the cab?
@jamesfriery thank you. No, it is outside.
What a shame about the graffiti ruining the buildings. However, the train and line looks very good.
@chrism7388 the line is nice. And graffiti....I don't like them either...
You're absolutely right about the graffiti! This dreadful stuff should be strongly banned and sanctioned in historical city centers and old beautiful buildings!
Bello lo stile: ricorda i treni giapponesi!
Chi ne è il designer?
@vincenzocanta9783 the train HŽ series 6112 is a class of low-floor electrical multiple units manufactured by the Croatian company Končar Group.

They haven't installed European Train Control System Signalization on this line yet, pity, they should do it soon. Currently line is limited to 120kmph, once ETCS signalization is installed, speeds should go up to 140kmph.
Where did You get such information? Line was (re)built for 120km/h as it is Regional line (higher speeds of 140/160 are only on Mainlines), it uses fixed block signalling based on PZB as rest of the network in Croatia, but it has been designed for 120km/h. No (at least no serious) information on ETCS implementation has been mentioned.
@@ZvonimirZelenika Zapersic - Podsused to main central station - glavi kolodvor... From Slovenian Border to Tovarnik they need to install European Train Control System Signalization, they did reconstruct part of the line from Savski Marof, but I see no new signalization, what is happening ?
@@davidczar2978 Aha, ETCS on the mainline (not on Zaprešić-Zabok). Mainline was just repaired (remont) and it was not modernization/reconstruction, so it was just "repairing" it to current designed state, with no changes to the signalling and to basic functioning of the line. Also, I'm not sure if ETCS and signalling is the reason speed was set to 120km/h and not to 140km/h (as it is towards Dugo Selo), it's rather short route with lots of stops so there would not be much difference.
@@ZvonimirZelenika well they need to modernize, upgrade, build proper line, 4 tracks not two (Podsused - Dugo Selo), split gradient entire line so rail and road aren't intersecting at any junction or point along the line, line between Zagreb Zapadni to Podsused is straight so it should be easily done, overpasses or underpasses in every other area, same goes for line between Dugo Selo and S. Brod - Vinkovci, double track built for high speed (200-=230kmph), but utilized for 160kmph cause there's no economic justification for higher speeds ETCS is now EU standard signalization for trains and it is being implemented across the EU when possible. BTW ETSC level 1 allows speeds of up to 200kmph, level 2 up to 350kmph. Level 3 isn't ready yet, but would encompass all ETCS levels in to one and simplify train , line and track management. What makes ETCS better than other systems is that is easier to upgrade and trans-European compatibility. Anyhow, thank you for your reply, didn't know it was only reconstruction, replacing sleepers, theoretically cause they're new concrete sleepers train speeds could be a lot higher, problem is, signalization, no idea what signalization is in use on the line, cause i see mix of stuff, looks like German PZB, with axle counter spaced evenly. Anyhow...
Bravo Hrvatska!
@DieVarden 👍
@damirmasic7432 bilo bi sijajno.
Zagreb main station is unpretentious.
You don't actually see the full station, these are west sideways platforms (4/5). There is a vision to build a new elevated station (over last century, railway lines through the centre have been raised on viaducts, with only Zagreb Main Station remaining on the "ground" level. Some other videos on channel show other parts of the station, or a full drive thru the station.
@@ZvonimirZelenika straight on is the main building side-wiew, on the left (north) is a small park, next to it is the best big hotel in town, under is a shopping centre, north-east is a big square, and the main central station building is in fact a palace making its southern end. 90% postcards feature this square
