Many of your gripes are a cost issues, to meet their target selling price. More features simply cost more. The Fly app will decode H.265 transmissions in OcuSync2 from the MA2. The Go4 app will only decode H.264 transmissions from the M2 Ocusync2, which by the way is a different OcuSync using different encoding. I believe that's the main issue of having two apps, because of the different decoding needed. My gripe is when they used better H.265 transmission technology, they should have named it OcuSync 3, because it's different. This explains the MA2 incompatibility with DJI goggles and the Smart controller. I expect firmware upgrades may be coming to resolve those incompatibilities, but not sure. Historically, DJI has always released products with bugs, or shortcomings, but seem to do a good job of fixing them after about 6mos of shipping product. Some part i agree, if you want light, go for mini. For most user this wil be a perfect drone. To light, less speed and stability. About range, i think you must have been interfeared by signal or line of sight, based on altitude.
I just received the MA2 on Tues. Had my first job with it on Wednesday. Camera and video settings wouldn't stay where I set them. What's up with that? Have you encountered that?
I just bought one yesterday and can still return it, do you think DJI is gonna make changes in the firmware to be able to use go 4 or maybe give an option to use fpv goggles? Spending as much money as we did I’m kinda disappointed not to mention my 2 year old could fly this thing. I agree on the obstacle avoidance Not being on the side and not being able to turn it on and off quickly.
Not being able to fly waypoint routes in normal flight mode is the most annoying problem to me. This was even a feature for my standard Phantom 3 drone 5 years ago! Should be easy for DJI to fix through an upgrade of the app.
thanks for your video but I believe no drone company will ever be perfect or get it all right intentionally for the simple reason that they also have to compete with themselves to attract customers!
48mp is good but you don’t talk about the sensor size difference between the 2 pro and MA2. 1” and 1/2” respectively so obviously it won’t look as good zoomed in......
Hello, I recentely purchased a MAvic Air 2 a week and a half ago and have been flying it ever since. Everything goes smoothly, one problem i have is the range. I lose signal everytime at 2000 ft distance. The drone is marketed at 10 kilmoters so 2000 ft shoulndt be an issue. I fly in my neigbhorhood which is near an airport. I also downloaded the Mavic assistance 2 app on my computer and did some firmware update. This enabled me to fly to 4000 ft, but after 4000ft i would lose signal and thr aircraft woult auto return to home. As i gradually go farther the RC signal bars drop. I paid $1100 for this and woulnd't want anything going wrong. If anyone has any information that can help me, please let me know. Thanks!
I already broke my gimbal when it went into autoland at 11 percent power. Had a hard time keeping the bird up while trying to steer home. Ended up clipping a tree.
David Mascot guess ya have lots of cash and enjoy turning a new battery into a paperweight. Never supposed to go below 20% on DJI batteries and if ya read instructions it diminishes power output as battery is used and is programmed to emergency land when power is low instead of DROPPING OUTTA THE SKY cause OP thinks it’s cool to fly and land at Zero percent battery. Bet you’re a guy that bitched when his MM was at 7% battery in 35mph winds then bitch when it’s blown away lmao. I own multiple DJI drones and love each for different reasons. All in all give and take the MA2 is the best all around drone. Ya could’ve used side sensors but so could original. And he bitches about active track but even with his ducking and weaving changing directions instantly he still couldn’t get it to lose tracking. If ya want sensors pay the huge $$$ add 400 grams and oh ya spend $$$ on batteries and case and filters and charge hub that MA2 comes with. All his gripes are $$$ based and for its price it’s best drone on the market. Mini is awesome but way to light
Wondering when DJI will release a MA2 support for Ground Stations (multiple waypoint Flight Planner, saver and editor, based on Google Earth and plain UTM coordinates). Do someone knows about this important tool? Even cheaper drones do have Ground Support but MA2 not.
I lost my yesterday on my first flight, it was pretty windy and the drone told me that I’ve to fly it low and that the RTH button won’t work and that I’ve to fly it manually which i did BUT on my part I didn’t follow the recommendation about to fly it low and i went higher i was at 70ft and i went to 200ft I thought it was safe because i was heading back to short... this all happened on water i was at the beach, after i went high the drone went 40ft higher that i want it by it self, so i went to bring it down but it was like a lack of communication between the controller and the Drone because when i was trying to bring it down from 240 to at least 100 it went to fast to 130 but it was descending quickly than normal so when i was trying to have control again and pull it up it was already at 70ft and that was it .. it crashed on the ocean.. boom lost it... at all times i had all the bars of signal Full...
You MISSED a HUGE problem that DJI could easily fix. It is the Annoying BEEPER on the controller. Operated the MA2 for 2 years now and it hasn't been mentioned to fix it. All I want is an option to turn it off, or beeb once then be able to silence it. Its so loud and annoying it can actually distract the operator in a bad way turning the flight into a dangerous situation.
The tablet gripe seems like a bit of a stretch since many of their other models don't either without a tablet adapter. And you can get table adapters that will fit the MA2. My 0.02
@@kennylim5773 , the Smart Controller has an HDMI port. There’s a video I’ll look for that shows all this. The basic white DJI Goggles come with an HDMI cable that just plugs into the SC. That’s the only downside is that there is a cable, it’s not wireless, but, hey, who’s walking around with goggles on? I don’t know if the head tilt/gamble tilt thing works with this. Right now, I can’t find basic DJI white goggles on Amazon. You can order from DJI China “direct”, but shipments take 10 days or so.
Thanks for your honest opine. I recently purchased the MA2 with the intent of using it as a stepping stone to determine what I want to use a drone for, such as, just flying because I can, photography, checking out canyons, tops of mountains, buildings, search and rescue or just annoying my neighbors. Some of your dislikes I can overlook because of no interest, others I made note and will work around. Thx
Some of the missing features are of little importance. The Quickshots are in my opinion gadgets that don't require top image definition. Side sensors would add much to the bill. I find the way the moving subject is actively tracked quite satisfactory. The Air 2 is 250 grams heavier than a Mini. No big deal as the bag is quite comfortable. Rather an advantage as it stands against the wind quite well. For 7 Euros, I found a decent tablet support on AliExpress. and on TEMU. You may need a longer connection cable. I never appreciate gross exaggeration on products performance. DJI is no exception. Range and flight duration are often wrong. It seems a couple of Mavic Air 2 negative features could have been avoided with no additionnal cost for the manufacturers. They could have saved on ND filters that are far too dark for normal use. But very good quality.
@@HalfChrome Agreed, but even with the aircraft at 30 degrees and the camera at 60 you still have forward obstacle avoidance and 90 degree parallel tracking - This is to avoid seeing front leg of the aircraft. However at about 15m I can parallel track something at ground level and fly perfectly forwards with no angle to the line of travel becasue the camera is pointed downwards enough not to see the aircraft leg. (camera at 90 degrees to line of flight but pointed down. Flying parallel to object line of travel)
Nice review, thanks. I am thinking to get a mini 2 or air 2, which one would you recommend? Your review made me think if i should spend those extra bucks for the air 2.
Great video thumbs up . But lol the only think i don’t agree with is the remote . I us a iPad air 3 and theres tones of adapters that hold all kinds of size pads or tablets
I wonder, how did that man aspect to attach iPad without extra accessories? If DJI to include all those complaints in Drone, the price will be €10.000 or more.
I think the Mavic Air 2 is very very good and I only just started flying! If in any doubt I just hit Return to Home button and it comes straight back to me so I dont agree with you and its super easy to fly even for people new to Drones like me.
I hate the fact you can’t use the DJI Goggles with it. But love the drone.i will never buy another add on for the DJI drones,I expect the Goggles to work on all their platforms.these things cost a lot of money and can’t just be put in a cupboard never to be used again. DJI LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. I have a Mavic pro which uses the Goggles so I may now return the Mavic air 2. I hope others do the same.
And you said the the front obstacle avoidance needs to be on the sides LOL then APASS and follow me mode would be useless!! 🤣😂🤣😂 You're really reaching here wow.. Have you watched the videos in the woods with the mavic Air 2 IT BLOWS AWAY THE MAVIC 2 PRO EVEN WITH THE SIDE SENSORS.. WITHOUT THEM IN THE FRONT IT WOULD NEVER WORK ARE YOU KIDDING ME.. 🤣
1. The battery only last 20min 2. The battery can only charge through an outlet wall( Which can be a bummer if your out flying and can't charge it. 3. Active track can only work in low resolution, and would rarely work in 4k if not at all.
Thanks for your honesty, I'm sick of watching mavic air 2 videos where all they do is talk about the positives, I know some of these people get given these drones for free and are a Bliged to say good things, I'm not saying that the mavic air 2 is a bad drone but for people like me that want to know the good, bad and ugly on these products so we can make better decisions on our purchases. thanks again

Is there another drone that you would recommend around $1,000 that compares to what you get with this with the fly more combo? & that's a very good point about the front sensors being on the side it only makes sense. DJI overhyped everything they should say it's going to be less & over-deliver then say it's going to be more & under-deliver dji=🤦♂️
2 of your "gripes" are pretty week. Of course you can easily adapt it for use with an ipad mini. (The adapters make for a really nice setup). The Air series Is not supposed to be a Mavic Mini. One thing I strongly agree with is there should be more than one programmable button on a remote that size. Why is it taking so long to be able to use it with the smart controller??? DJI must already have more money than they need.
Dude, all you have to do to turn off obstacle avoidance immediately is simply switch to sport mode on remote. It's immediately turned off with no menu searching. You'll just have to focus your skills with slower movements.
Battery is a rough with this drone, better do as much and quickly as you can. And I agree, using a smart phone is super super hard during bright sunlight, wish they thought of accessories or allow ipad/tablet placments. The 48 pixels is very eh, like nothing is sharp with the larger picture.
Understandable but those are mostly personal things/needs, they designed it to use a phone not a tablet as well you can turn obstacle avoidance just by flipping from normal to sport. In case this is not what you need this is not a drone for you, no offence or hating, just saying. I agree a single function button is not enough but at least there is one.
If you think about it, the new Mini 2 comes with a nearly identical bag as the Air 2 if you get the Fly More Combo, so for people with the Fly More Combo, portability isn't a problem. (That is if you compare these 2 drones. And although you can fit Mini 2 in your pocket and not Air 2, that controller ain't fitting in a normal pocket very easily. I rest my case.)
And for people like me, who live in other countries (South Africa here) who don't need to register their drones, that 249g of the Mini 2 doesn't matter.
@@Gcity67k I sadly don't, I just did a lot of research about it. But based off what I have seen in videos, I don't think you would easily hear it at that height.
I don't like the fact i can't fit my 32" flat screen on my mavic air 2 controller. Such poor design. On another note the gimbal on the mavic air 2 is flawed where the camera connects to the main arm. Check your drone's peeps.
The other day I made a rookie mistake as I was in a rush. I forgot to take off the gimble cover. Well I got it up to 80 meters high. Then all of a sudden I had 0 control of it. Then it proceeded to fly BACKWARDS. 1.2 kms away from me. I eventually hit (return to home) and it did. But holy moly I was freaking right out. Anyone else ever had that issue?
I agree with most of what you brought up except for the idea of not being able to use an iPad. Because you can use the iPad by getting an adapter. So I don’t consider that a real problem. The other stuff you brought up... valid gripes. Thanks for sharing your insights. Keep up the good work.

I’m more shocked people think $800 is a budget drone....like it’s pocket change. Budget is a spark, or tello, a mini etc...this is middle of the road
@@michaelholly88 Yeah, true
True
Some part i agree, if you want light, go for mini. For most user this wil be a perfect drone. To light, less speed and stability. About range, i think you must have been interfeared by signal or line of sight, based on altitude.
I just received the MA2 on Tues. Had my first job with it on Wednesday. Camera and video settings wouldn't stay where I set them. What's up with that? Have you encountered that?
have you been able to troubleshoot this problem? Im curious if youve fixed it.
I don't see GO4 but you can use FPV goggles if you have the smart controller and DJI FPV
Not being able to fly waypoint routes in normal flight mode is the most annoying problem to me. This was even a feature for my standard Phantom 3 drone 5 years ago! Should be easy for DJI to fix through an upgrade of the app.
But they don’t want to
Bro, I palnned to buy one drone...so please suggest one good and budget drone.....mavic mini 2 or Air 2 ??
Air 2. Still a good one
Is that an actual plane shadow on 5:42?
No.
thanks for your video but I believe no drone company will ever be perfect or get it all right intentionally for the simple reason that they also have to compete with themselves to attract customers!
I understand that Side Avoudance sensors are disabled in Tripod Mode on other Mavics.
48mp is good but you don’t talk about the sensor size difference between the 2 pro and MA2. 1” and 1/2” respectively so obviously it won’t look as good zoomed in......
and is full of noise and unusable its funny how no one mentions that
We have an entire video about 48 megapixels of the MA2
Thanks!
if you fly air 2 in desert
or some places without signal interference , it can fly up to 10km or even more. i saw some range test video can fly 11km
Nice
Has anything been fixed through updates?
Many of these have. Quick shots, and zoom added
@@HalfChrome do you have or had a mavic 2 pro and was the barreling in the video footage present regardless what resolution settings are set?
The Gimbel isn't protected, that is a major concern if you have a crash or accident.
Mini is awesome but way to light
do i need a license for mavic air 2??? thanks
Only if you plan to make money with it
Think I saw you flying over moving cars for range test?
Nope
I fly mavic air2 daily in hong kong compare with mavic mini , I am satisfied it as far with longer battery live and range
Great
My order for mavic air2 is supposed to be in today and now I'm wondering if I should back out and be happy with my mini?
That’s up to you. Check out my video comparing the mini and the air 2. th-cam.com/video/opLOyYMtDdQ/w-d-xo.html
The MA2 is far superior to the Mini... Trust me, you will be thrilled with the upgrade
Wondering when DJI will release a MA2 support for Ground Stations (multiple waypoint Flight Planner, saver and editor, based on Google Earth and plain UTM coordinates).
Do someone knows about this important tool?
Even cheaper drones do have Ground Support but MA2 not.
My two friends already lost their mavic air 2 due to lost connection , is there a issue with this drone???
I’d ask what they were doing, where and how they were flying. Most lost drones tend to be user error or miscalculation.
My 0.02
It is the only Mavic you need an adapter for.
I wish it would support the DJI Goggles or some smart glasses.
It does when operated with the Smart Controller.
@@brianmcgauley2664 Does it really? What do I need to get? Thanks
@@brianmcgauley2664 Thanks very much Brian.
Smart controller and DJI FPV goggles.
My drone is brand new and I lose video reception in 200 ft😤 but DJI did sell me an mini ipad holder for the remote.
So which drone you recommend with the same price ?
None. This is the best at that price
I haven’t been able to get this Mavic Air 2 past 3900 ft for distance. Weak signals
Thx
Hi Half Chrome,
Has your opinion changed on this much? Or still the same?
It’s a great drone. They have improved it since release
But very good quality.
i've been using my full size Ipad for 2 years now with my air 2.
#4 It is possible to parallel track while flying forward. Just turn the camera to the side.
Sure but it will still be on an angle.
Depends on your purpose for the drone but the Air 2 is excellent.
I wonder if DJI can fix the ocusync with a firmware upgrade?
Probably.
They sell a attachment fo iPad
I think the Mavic Air 2 is very very good and I only just started flying! If in any doubt I just hit Return to Home button and it comes straight back to me so I dont agree with you and its super easy to fly even for people new to Drones like me.
If it had all the functions you mentioned it would be called Mavic 3 Pro instead of Mavic Air.
Perhaps that is next.
@@HalfChrome No, Mini 2 is next
The Mini 2 is here
@@HalfChrome Finally!
I hope they add some of these stuff to the Air 3
one thing more, the DJI GOGGLE that works with my mavic air, mavic mini, phantom 4 and mavic pro but not compatible with the Air Two. disappointing
Didn't they fix #3 with a firmware update? I agree with you. Good call.
I wasn't sure if you were referring to my call or not?
I hate the fact you can’t use the DJI Goggles with it. But love the drone.i will never buy another add on for the DJI drones,I expect the Goggles to work on all their platforms.these things cost a lot of money and can’t just be put in a cupboard never to be used again. DJI LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. I have a Mavic pro which uses the Goggles so I may now return the Mavic air 2. I hope others do the same.
Another worst thing with the MA2 is it use H265 only for the 4k 60fps
So?
Lucky you. Well, my computer cannot handle H265. And I cannot afford to upgrade.
🤣
All drones have trouble flying far in crowded areas if you go to a clear area you could reach 5 miles no problem.
It’s funny you mentioned the DJI Fly app as a pro in your other video, but mentioned it as a con in this one 🤷 lol
Milking it for the video lol
1. The battery only last 20min 2. The battery can only charge through an outlet wall( Which can be a bummer if your out flying and can't charge it. 3. Active track can only work in low resolution, and would rarely work in 4k if not at all.
Need a drone for filming
Thanks for your honesty, I'm sick of watching mavic air 2 videos where all they do is talk about the positives, I know some of these people get given these drones for free and are a Bliged to say good things, I'm not saying that the mavic air 2 is a bad drone but for people like me that want to know the good, bad and ugly on these products so we can make better decisions on our purchases. thanks again
Definitely agree with the side sensors that's the biggest problem and also the battery are horrible mine only last about 25 minutes The batteries loose charge before even using them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack, Would you consider doin a current top 5 or top 3.? I have been lookin at these drones fir close to a year. I'm not looking for perfect but not junk either.
Somewhere 400 and below, stable flying, decent range, GPS, with decent video and 2 or 3 axis gimble, brushless motors, obstacle avoidance ? I know it's give and take.
Man, I would say DJI might wanna pull you in as a consultant or in R & D.
I've looked at Hubsans, JJRC, PARROT, FIMI, HOLYSTONE, and a few others...is there anything currently in particular that looks like an overall win win to you ?
I'll check some more of your vids. I appreciate your honesty and your thorough look at these.
Thanks a bunch,
Wulfy
We are going to do a livestream tomorrow at 8pm CST that will actually cover some of those questions.
@@HalfChrome Awesome ! Yeah, Just when I think I got it narrowed down, something seems to tilt the other way. I know one thing, it would have been awesome to have a few of these cam drones over in Iraq .. send em in to check out possible IEDs, suspected ambush and detonator positions, etc... We just had a robotic arm vehicle, was broken down more than it ran. As forva bomb suit...No Way- Heat exhaustion heat stroke guaranteed, vs maybe a detonation. Heat injuries will be suffered for a lifetime.
Thanks, lookin forward to the livestream !
All the best,
Wulf
Is there another drone that you would recommend around $1,000 that compares to what you get with this with the fly more combo? & that's a very good point about the front sensors being on the side it only makes sense. DJI overhyped everything they should say it's going to be less & over-deliver then say it's going to be more & under-deliver dji=🤦♂️
its 1000. for this drone, well worth it.
I got the mini 2 loving my battery life and my drone range love everything
I honestly I love the drone and it is great
Hey do u own a mavic air 2 if u do can u hear it above 1000 feet in the air?
Quickshots are not limited to 1080p/30fps. It can do up to 4K. Do more research.
Battery is a rough with this drone, better do as much and quickly as you can. And I agree, using a smart phone is super super hard during bright sunlight, wish they thought of accessories or allow ipad/tablet placments. The 48 pixels is very eh, like nothing is sharp with the larger picture.
Thanks I got good info from your video info I plan on upgrading from the mini 2
Glad to help
Understandable but those are mostly personal things/needs, they designed it to use a phone not a tablet as well you can turn obstacle avoidance just by flipping from normal to sport.
In case this is not what you need this is not a drone for you, no offence or hating, just saying. I agree a single function button is not enough but at least there is one.
Why do I think this guy dresses in drag on the weekends.
You are likely projecting your own behavior.
Geesus man. Try sticking to the topic if you are able to do so with your pea-sized brain.
What he does at the weekends is up to him,why you asking for you want to borrow some dresses 😭👏😂
@@HalfChrome that was a brilliant reply ! just subscribed
Thanks man
If you think about it, the new Mini 2 comes with a nearly identical bag as the Air 2 if you get the Fly More Combo, so for people with the Fly More Combo, portability isn't a problem.
I guess I should have actually posted these comments at the video where they compare the Mini 2 and Air 2. LOL
Hey do u own a mavic air 2 if u do can u hear it above 1000 feet in the air?
@@Gcity67k I sadly don't, I just did a lot of research about it. But based off what I have seen in videos, I don't think you would easily hear it at that height.
I don't like the fact i can't fit my 32" flat screen on my mavic air 2 controller. Such poor design. On another note the gimbal on the mavic air 2 is flawed where the camera connects to the main arm. Check your drone's peeps.
Ok
@@HalfChrome sorry i just thought that was comical. You do you man you have some good content.
Thanks.
How did you go 80 meters without noticing you had the cover on ?
@@MsSarbie was looking at the drone not the screen.
To me there is a 11ª Advantage (perhaps more important): There is no DJI Goggles -FPV to Mavic Air 2. And de side obstacle sensor.
I like it since it’s my first one but disappointed that it’s lacking so many features like the mavic 2 pro.
Well, all you need to do is pay twice as much for the Pro to get those features you're missing.
If u have a really bulky phone case then the phone holder cant hold ur phone cus it cant extend that much
You could remove the phone case
@@HalfChrome my phone case is so annoying to take off and put it back on it just seems annoying
Im just targeting people who has one of those extreme phone cases that is hard to take off
I agree with most of what you brought up except for the idea of not being able to use an iPad. Because you can use the iPad by getting an adapter. So I don’t consider that a real problem. The other stuff you brought up... valid gripes. Thanks for sharing your insights. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
After so much time and the recent updates I would take this drone for over any of their newer ones except for maybe the mini 2
Very fair criticism regarding active track & not being able to use a tablet. Fair criticism all round; battery life, range, side sensors
Thanks
Excellent review Jack, and I appreciate you pointing all the minuses as well as the pluses. Keep up that savage honesty.

I agree with some of the issues but in my opinion it still a good buy and your issues is certainly not a deal breaker for me😁
Waaaaa! Best drone for the $$$
We do love this drone. Just pointing out potential improvements
I also wish it was compatible with Go4 app
DJI never advertised any of the gripes you have as part of the platform.
Generally companies don’t advertise gripes about their products.
